Howdy back, atcha.
My uneducated guess. You need a newer kernel for newer gear to get video. Maybe the vesa or fb driver may get you by.
I can’t say. Your Ubuntu reference makes me think this.I’d ask for live boot and see if you get a screen.
If that works.

I changed both antix.list and debian.list to testing
Change repos to buster just for these applications. Those packages are no longer in debian testing/bullseye. Will probably need more testing in antix bullseye a2 to figure out if ot works or if those packages need to be rebuilt.

I tired what you said… using antix live without persistence to try to install and see if testing repositories had something to do with my problem (I changed both antix.list and debian.list to testing)…. It still would not install and said that there was no package called iphone-antix…. Weird, huh

Now I tested and this works (testes all antix mirrors)
I need to rectify the instructions.
0. I create a new/ folder inside Documents and place the script there. I then switch all repos off except for the antiX repo (you can do this with the repo-manager program).
1. I then manually edit the /etc/apt/sources.d/antix.list to use the original antix repo repo.antixlinux.com/bullseye (or /buster). I update the package list manually and save the available packages to a default.list file
sudo apt update apt list | tail -n+2 | grep -v "^$" > $HOME/Documents/new/default.listI consider this to be the default list because there is nothing more up to date than the antiX repo.
2. Then run the script (it will test each repo inside /usr/share/repo-list/repos.txt and create a .diff file to compare differences between packages listed there and in the official antix repo).
At the end of the process it will create a compare.list file with the results of the test.Attachments:

Thank you so much for responding! Here is the result of inxi -r. Yes, I changed the debian.list and antix.list to testing. Before I installed Antix, I registered on the forum and asked if it were possible to make Antix into a release that I wouldn’t have to re-install every 5 years (e.g. semi-rolling). I THOUGHT I was told to switch the sources to testing and remove any reference to the release name (Buster, Bullseye, etc) If I remember, Anticapitalista posted, which I thought was super cool. Thanks again for all the help!!!

Hi @Xecure,
How did you do that check for the bullseye mirrors? Can you show us?It is a very crude method.
I update the package list manually and save the available packages to a default.list file
sudo apt update apt list | tail -n+2 | grep -v "^$" > $HOME/Documents/new/defaults.listI consider this to be the default list because there is nothing more up to date than the antiX repo.
2. I use the repo manager to change to the first antiX mirro and I apply the changes. I then run the script once and it generates a compare.list file where it stores the result.
3. I repeat step 2 until I am done with all mirrors.
I could alternatively use the /usr/share/repo-list/repos.txt list and modify the script to automate steps 2-3 inside a while loop, which should simplify the process to only running the script once and not have to manually change the repo.
the script in question:
#!/bin/bash DEFAULT_LIST="$HOME/Documents/new/default.list" ERROR_LIST="$HOME/Documents/new/error.list" NEW_LIST="$HOME/Documents/new/new.list" COMPARE_LIST="$HOME/Documents/new/compare.list" CURRENT_REPO="$(awk 'NR==2{print }' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list | cut -d " " -f2)" REPO_NAME="$(echo "$CURRENT_REPO" | cut -d"/" -f3)" TOTAL_DIF=0 # 2. Update sources-list sudo apt update 2> "$ERROR_LIST" # 3. Save list apt list | tail -n+2 | grep -v "^$" > # 4. Compare diff "$DEFAULT_LIST" "$NEW_LIST" > "$HOME/Documents/new/${REPO_NAME}.dif" # 5. Check if dif is empty or has issues if [[ ! -s "$HOME/Documents/new/${REPO_NAME}.dif" ]]; then TOTAL_DIF=0 elif [[ -s "$ERROR_LIST" ]]; then TOTAL_DIF="ERROR" else TOTAL_DIF=$(cat "$HOME/Documents/new/${REPO_NAME}.dif" | grep "^< \|^> " | wc -l | awk '{ print $1 }') fi echo "[$TOTAL_DIF] $CURRENT_REPO" >> "$COMPARE_LIST"- This reply was modified 1 year, 11 months ago by Xecure.

Hi, Herndon.
I have set it for testing (rather than stable updates)
If you mean you changed the debian.list and antix.list sources to testing, change them to bullseye instead (though it should be the same, but just in case). And dist-upgrade again.
The icons in the menu changed and none of the buttons for turning off, logging off, suspending, etc now work.
Is the logout menu entry the one that doesn’t work or the “Exit Session” window buttons that don’t work?
If I am not mistaken, recently the desktop-session-antix has been divided into different and independent packages, so that it isn’t as monolithic.
Make sure you have desktop-session-antix, desktop-menu-antix and desktop-defaults-antix, and pm-utils (that manages shutdown, suspend, logout commands).antiX Live system enthusiast.

May 10, 2021 at 7:34 pm #59169In reply to: Still using antiX-16 in 2020
Memberseaken64
We are coming up on a year since I started this thread on continuing to use antiX-16. For those who are curious about the longevity of antiX it’s interesting to note that I can still use this old P-III 600 system, with 384Gb RAM, even long after the underlying Debian Jessie repos are no longer supported with updates.
As an experiment I did try my usual update and upgrade. No upgrades were available and I did get a couple of notices about expired signatures. But I was able to add some software today and the results were pretty decent and more than expected.
Early in this thread I had mentioned that my usual “goto” browser, SeaMonkey, was not working good enough to be useful. It was sluggish and pegged the CPU at 100% far too much. Recently I had been reading about the “Epiphany” browser (which name was changed to Gnome Web) and that it was one of the only browsers that worked without SSE2 and has a low memory footprint. I decided to try it on this old dinasaur to see if I could once again use the old beast to browse around the web.
I found version 3.14.1 in the Jessie repos and installed it. It works. But it is not any more useful than SeaMonkey. DuckDuckGo and Google both failed to load search results properly and I could not get anything to open when clicking a link. I tried Startpage and it works to get a page of search results and when I clicked I got to the antiX forum page, finally. The RAM used is about 225M with two tabs open and the CPU stablizes at about 85% when on the antiX forum, which for some reason is a very hard site to use with an old computer. The response is sluggish, but barely usable. And weirdly I could not resize the window. I could move it with Alt-leftclick but I could not resize it with the mouse pointer.
I looked around to see if I could find a newer version for antiX-16 or MX-15 but I could not find anything yet. Fow now, Epiphany will not be a suitable replacement for SeaMonkey.
Then I started looking around for other options and tried Netsurf again. I was able to find a more recent version on the MX-15 repo and I installed it (version 3.8). It is better than the previous version (v3.2) but still quirky. It does not render fonts well and has a lot of display issues. And it does not like the antiX forum and it is difficult to login and add and edit messages. It does work, kind of. But not good enough to be dubbed my default browser for antiX-16 on this old computer.
Then I tried Midori. I have never had good success with Midori, it always crashes on me. So I was hesitant to try it again but I did find it the MX-15 testrepo and installed it. I have been using it all afternoon, much to my surprise. I have been expecting it to crash, but I have been using it for hours and it has not crashed yet. The version is 0.5.11 and I am using it now to enter this message. (And backing up to a text file just in case).
I have browsed also the MX forum and a few sites from the search list that discuss alternative browsers, etc. I have changed preferences and saved bookmarks and tried to use the browser like I usually use SeaMonkey. It all seems to work. The memory footprint at this moment is about 250M. Now, bear in mind that I don’t browse to commercial sites and use banking or stream videos with a browser on this old computer. But for what I do use a browser for this version of Midori will become my new default browser. At least until I either experience it crashing or find another better solution.
So, as of today, May 10, 2021 I can still use antiX-16 32-bit to browse around the web a little bit and participate in the forum and I can still use Audacious to listen to my jazz and otherwise use the system normally. This computer is nearly 22 years old, so that’s pretty amazing.

Did a new install of Antix 19.3 64bit today and getting this same EXPKEYSIG error when I do “sudo apt-get update”. I followed the steps from the first page but none of them worked. The wget command spits out a 404 error not found error and the installing the deb package in step 2 didn’t fix the issue either.
Choose another repo since it seems that one is down.
Actually, edit antix.list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d to
deb https://mirror.adct.be/mx/packages/antix/buster/ buster main nonfreeNothing to do with expired keys.
I haven’t tried this yet, since I don’t know if I’m suppose to replace the existing mirror line with this one, or simply add this new mirror.adct.be line to the bottom of the sources.list.d file?
Any suggestions on how to fix this error?

I just did an update/upgrade to test what you say.
Mine is working fine.
I’m using the US/Lenexa, KS antiX mirror, if that helps.Repos: Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list 1: deb https: //mirror.us.oneandone.net/linux/distributions/mx/packages/antix/buster/ buster main nonfree nosystemd Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/buster-backports.list 1: deb http: //deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main contrib non-free Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian-stable-updates.list 1: deb http: //ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ buster-updates main contrib non-free Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list 1: deb http: //ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ buster main contrib non-free 2: deb http: //security.debian.org/ buster/updates main contrib non-free No active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/onion.list No active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/various.list- This reply was modified 2 years ago by christophe. Here it is, but it doesn’t make sense because I edited /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list as you suggested!!

As I explained in the other post, you need to enable at least the antix bullseye repo, and then see if updating and upgrading in terminal will fix the log-in issue.
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
replace “buster” with “bullseye”, so that your repo looks like
deb http://mirror.it.ubc.ca/mxlinux/antix/bullseye/ bullseye main nonfree nosystemd
save and exit. Then trysudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade sudo apt install --reinstall desktop-session-antixReboot and see if you can log in in SLIm (use F1 keys to switch between the different available desktops until you see fluxbox).
antiX Live system enthusiast.

Hi
I notice that the sound rattles through the speakers at high volume. Not so with headphones. I wonder if it’s the driver or if the speakers are just not better.
Here is my inxi -Fxzr:
