        Hello,

I can’t install an NVIDIA driver for the 900 series (the exact reference is GTX960 launched in 2015)
I go through the Nvidia Driver Installer in the Control Center.
Here is what it has been offering me for several weeks.

        Installed is: (none)

Which driver do you wish to install

        Main repos or debian-backports?

        1: Main 418.181.07-1

        2: MX Test 460.39-1~bpo10+1

        3: Exit

        Enter Number of selection

The 418 driver does not install. This driver is quite old.
I tried to install driver 460 (test) but it gives me a black screen.
I tried several kernels but it doesn’t change anything, I still get the 2 drivers 418 and 460 test.
With MX Linux, I use the 450 driver which works really well because I use for example the Webrender for hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can guess that I would like to install driver 450 to remove the screen tearing that annoys me on my screen.

        Best regards,
        Wallon

          Hello,

I can’t install an NVIDIA driver for the 900 series (the exact reference is GTX960 launched in 2015)
I go through the Nvidia Driver Installer in the Control Center.
Here is what it has been offering me for several weeks.

          Main repo candidate is: 418.181.07-1
          Debian backports candidate is: 460.39-1~bpo10+1
          Installed is: (none)

Which driver do you wish to install

          Main repos or debian-backports?

          1: Main 418.181.07-1

          2: MX Test 460.39-1~bpo10+1

          3: Exit

          Enter Number of selection

The 418 driver does not install. This driver is quite old.
I tried to install driver 460 (test) but it gives me a black screen.
I tried several kernels but it doesn’t change anything, I still get the 2 drivers 418 and 460 test.
With MX Linux, I use the 450 driver which works really well because I use for example the Webrender for hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can guess that I would like to install driver 450 to remove the screen tearing that annoys me on my screen.

          Best regards,

It’s my first time trying to use a second monitor with this old machine (I use two monitors with another machine running MX) and I’d not realized arandr deals with this as well and not only resolutions. Tried as suggested and got the same result as with disper – the system recognizes the second monitor but there is no video there.

I’m not using the testing repo.

              ˝6 pages of goal-post moving…
the OP does not acknowledge help the help/feedback offered
(e.g. login credentials are NOT suddenly being rejected),
instead just posts up some further, unrelated, off-the-wall “diddy-wack”

To me, it now seems both apropriate and overdue to suggest
“MicroSlave bulk wash and reinstall” (or whatever phrase the OP used)˝

                Dear All,

I have installed Timeshift to do a backup but it doesn’t work.
Is it possible to use Timeshift ?
I don’t like to use an snapshot (iso) because the file fstab is modified and some times, I can’t reinstall the iso (Bios or Legacy or EFI not compatible)

                ———————————————————–
                Here it is my installation (apparently all was good);

                Wallon

                  Hello,

I’m new on this forum and sorry if I do some mistakes in English. French is my mother tong.
I’m a little bit trouble because I have noticed that “antiX 19 Full” has not the same options in English and in French in the window “add-desktop”.
I have tested my USB Live on my desktop (Intel i5-6400) and tested also my old laptop (Amd Athlon) with antiX installed. It’s not the same kernel for both and I have the same issue.
                  To be sure;
                  1) Icon “Favorite Application”
                  2) Applications
                  3) Preferences
                  4) Add Menu Item
                  5) In the window “add-desktop”, the line “Item Location”, we can choose;
                  -> 1) Application Menu
                  or
                  -> 2) Desktop Shortcut
                  or
                  -> 3) Personal.

But for antiX 19 in french, In the window “add-desktop”, the line “Item Location”, it’s impossible to choose something. All the options are on the same line and the narrow at the end of line is not activated. Please, find attached my 2 screenshots (English versus french)

Here it is my full info of my desktop (Intel) with the AntiX USB Live

Xecure, I think there is might a communication problem, because of the language.

It not only is possible but it probably is as you say. I think I understand now after re-reading all posts. Because something happened to the antix.list, the system updated all debian packages but not antiX packages. In cli-aptiX I got the same error as ext4 when simulating the issue:

                      Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
                      E: Das Depot »http://mirror.plusserver.com/mxlinux/mxlinux/antix buster Release« enthält keine Release-Datei.

After installing some updates and missing some packages, Synaptic had problems (but I cannot reproduce the first synaptic error), but after ext4 restored the sources using repo manager, synaptic spits out the error related to a problematic antix mirror, which I reproduced on my system:
Das Depot »http://mirror.plusserver.com/mxlinux/mxlinux/antix buster Release« enthält keine Release-Datei.
After Robin asking for the content inside sources.list.d, you discovered that the antiX sources are missing the /buster/ entry and instead appear as “deb mirror.repo/antix// buster” instead of “deb mirror.repo/antix/buster/ buster”. Following your indications, the user replaces the content with yours, and the problem is momentarily solved.

I think the later error appeared again and made it impossible to reinstall the repo-manager because the antix.list file was broken again. I blame myself for not explaining clearly to restore the antix.list file following your indications before trying to reinstall repo-manager, and that lead to ext4 wasting so much time because I didn’t correctly explain this.

Fortunately, now the antix repo works again. I don’t think synaptic is to blame, but some strange configuration in the repo-manager or one of its dependencies. Now that it is restored, you can now reinstall repo-manager and can still keep synaptic (no need to uninstall it). Synaptic is more user-friedly than the terminal for searching and installing new programs. Don’t touch the repositories from synaptic and, if needed, only use the repo-manager to change the repository (though now you already have the fastest mirrors set up, so no need to touch them for now).

Let us know if we can help with anything else.

Don’t reinstall just yet. rewrite the antix.list file as caprea indicated:
                        gksudo leafpad /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list

And replace the whole file’s content with:

                        # Use with Debian Stable/buster repositories. Set as default for antiX-19.
deb http://mirror.plusserver.com/mxlinux/mxlinux/antix/buster/ buster main nonfree nosystemd
#deb-src http://mirror.plusserver.com/mxlinux/mxlinux/antix/buster/ buster main nonfree nosystemd

                        # Use with Debian Testing/'rolling' repositories.
#deb http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/mxlinux/packages/antix/testing testing main nonfree nosystemd
#deb-src http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/mxlinux/packages/antix/testing testing main nonfree nosystemd

                        # Use with Debian Sid repositories.
#deb http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/mxlinux/packages/antix/sid sid main nonfree nosystemd
#deb-src http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/mxlinux/packages/antix/sid sid main nonfree nosystemd

Save and close the file. This will solve all the repo issues with the antiX mirror.

I think there was a small error with the repo manager, but you should be able to reinstall it with the command
sudo apt update && sudo apt install repo-manager
                        after changing the antix.list file.
You shouldn’t have any more problems after this. I consider this a one-time error, as this doesn’t happen at all since almost 2 years ago.

But if you see that this is too much, and prefer to go back to windows, it is understandable.

Anyway, we will try to help as best we can if you have any other questions.

You are right. The error was in the links in the antix.list. This happend a long time ago during antiX 19 beta testing, and I hadn’t seen this error again.
Replace the file contents in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list as caprea mentioned, then update your system
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
answer yes to all questions during the upgrade process and this error should not pop up again.

                            Hi,

                            https://mirror.eu.oneandone.net/linux/distributions/mx/packages/antix/buster/

                            Frank

Was sagt denn die Ausgabe von

                              sudo dpkg --configure -a

                              Mach mal folgendes

                              sudo leafpad /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list

This entry was freshly added when I was testing. Following your above advice I started fresh, without this entry and attempted to add the repository from your post, namely the same as before http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/Debian10.7/.
This resulted in exactly the same rejection error by Synaptic:

This is a quite intriguing issue for me to investigate but I do not want to waste more of your precious time for me. So if this error does not happen for other users it remains for me to dig into this, especially got an excellent description of repo validity check mechanism from Xecure.

                                Thanks again and best Regards…

When apt check a repository, i compares the signature from the repo and the one saved in your system, to see if they match and to check if it has reached its “expiration date”.
The error seen by the thread OP is related to the GPG key not matching, not being found or for it reaching the expiration date.
For antix linux case, all PGP signatures in your system come from the package antix-archive-keyring (if I am not mistaken). This package adds the corresponding PGP key to /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ for APT signing verification.
You add a source to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ (for example, antix.list). When apt does a packagelist update (sudo apt update)
It reads the different sources, sends a request to access Release and Release.gpg files, checks if the Release.gpg file matches the PGP key in your system and “confirms” the signature, and then adds the information of Release to the list of available packages to be downloaded. This is how it verifies that the repo is secure and OK.

I just want to thank you for this clear explanation of the mechanism in repo validity check. I missed to thank you for this the first time around…
There is something to learn for me each day…
                                  Greatly appreciate.
