In reply to: apt update fails – repo not signed [solved]
Memberolsztyn
olsztyn, anticapitalista didn’t provide links to use in apt as a repository source, but for you to see the Release.gpg (that is the file which contains a string of characters that your system checks to see if the repo is signed). It is a PGP signature.
When apt check a repository, i compares the signature from the repo and the one saved in your system, to see if they match and to check if it has reached its “expiration date”.
The error seen by the thread OP is related to the GPG key not matching, not being found or for it reaching the expiration date. Thanks Xecure for this explanation. I did understand though that anti did not necessarily mean to switch repos to the ones he quoted. I just took these as an opportunity to test, relying on the fact they conform to the requirements of Synaptic, but also hoping these are more updated so I could use after some testing…

I apologize for digging further into these but as I am trying to verify my set of repositories in antiX and update per the above quote by adding the quoted above http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/Debian10.7/, I am getting the following error, which indicates one of the issues pointed to by the originator of this thread, and adding this repository fails:
olsztyn, anticapitalista didn’t provide links to use in apt as a repository source, but for you to see the Release.gpg (that is the file which contains a string of characters that your system checks to see if the repo is signed). It is a PGP signature.
When apt check a repository, i compares the signature from the repo and the one saved in your system, to see if they match and to check if it has reached its “expiration date”.
The error seen by the thread OP is related to the GPG key not matching, not being found or for it reaching the expiration date. For antix linux case, all PGP signatures in your system come from the package antix-archive-keyring (if I am not mistaken). This package adds the corresponding PGP key to /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ for APT signing verification.
You add a source to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ (for example, antix.list). When apt does a packagelist update (sudo apt update)
It reads the different sources, sends a request to access Release and Release.gpg files, checks if the Release.gpg file matches the PGP key in your system and “confirms” the signature, and then adds the information of Release to the list of available packages to be downloaded. This is how it verifies that the repo is secure and OK.I don’t fully understand GPG / PGP signature keys, but I think what I wrote is understandable.

.my antix.list file to you. it’s all works!
Are you somehow missing the point?
By having all those mirror servers active in in your sources list,
you are forcing your system to redundantly download identical datasets
~~ wasting bandwidth
~~ wasting drive storage space (consumed by the cumulative, multi megabyte, indexfiles)
~~ likely slow-as-molasses waiting for each update operation to retrieve / unpack / parse / indexJanuary 1, 2021 at 5:03 pm #48737In reply to: Cannot install wine via apt-get

I removed all the .lists from /etc/apt/sources.list.d and only left antix.list in this folder but now I can’t download netbeans(example) I don’t know if I commit a mistake. Sorry.
Yess I add manually in file antix.list
EDIT:
I updated the repo and works now! Thanks so much! Cheers!- This reply was modified 2 years, 4 months ago by angel7.

1. The most important, and the reason you cannot download debian packages. You have buster main repo disabled! See mine:Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list 1: deb http://ulises.hostalia.com/debian/ buster main contrib non-free 2: deb http://security.debian.org/ buster/updates main contrib non-freeI have the security repo (as you do), but I have the main debian repo (the first in the above list) active, but you don’t. Go to Repo Manager (Control Centre > Maintenance), Debian tab, and activate the buster repo.
2. I only activate deb-multimedia when I need it (first time recently, installing kodi). Then I disable it. It is recommended to have it disabled and only activate it when installing something from that specific repo.
3. If you are having trouble with a certain antix repo mirror, use Repo Manager to select a different one close to you. Adding them all to the same list is a bad idea. It will take a lot longer to update the package lists if it has to check each of the mirrors. (Anyway, this is not a real problem if this works for you).
5. You have added the incorrect wine repository.
56: deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/ stretch main
You are running antiX 19 based on Debian BUSTER, but you added the STRETCH repo instead. If you want the main wine repo for you system, you need to change it to:
deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/ buster main5. As you manually added:
53: deb https://deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ stable non-free 54: deb http://repository.spotify.com/ stable non-free 55: deb [arch=amd64] https://packagecloud.io/AtomEditor/atom/any/ any main 56: deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/ stretch mainI would move them to various.list just so you can have a bit more order. This way the antix.list has the antix repos and any other ones can go to a separate file. If at some point you upgrade to antiX 21, having them in a separate various.list or others.list (or whatever-name-you-like.list) file will save you from having to add them again.
Once you activate the main buster Debian repo again, try:
sudo apt update && apt policy wine
and you will be able to see a candidate version for wine. As caprea recommended above, it is better you install it with package installer, just in case it brings in a newer version than the one on the Debian repo.- This reply was modified 2 years, 4 months ago by Xecure. Reason: wine repo note

You could have started with antiX 19.3 core, that has drivers/firmware for wireless, but this doesn’t matter right now (as the error would be the same).
Note: If you log in as “demo”, use sudo where I use it. If logged as “root”, don’t use sudo, I think).
If you were using antiX core, I would recommend you check with ceni if your ethernet connection is set up.
sudo ceni
Select Ethernet and see if it connects properly. As you are using antiX net (which I have very little experience with, and that has almost nothing I know how to work with), I think everything is even more difficult.
try to see what interfaces are available
ifquery --list
You should be able to see eth0 (or whatever name the ethernet interface has) there.
Now try connecting to it with
sudo ifup eth0
Where you need to substitute “eth0” for the correct interface name you saw in the ifquery list output
It should tell you if you get connected or not.You cannot ping to check if internet is working, you cannot wget ether, so hopefully sudo apt update gives you now the correct output and no errors.
I will keep investigating, but meanwhile try to do what I listed above.
Edit: The only alternative I found (I am not knowledgeable in net, as I stated before) is to use a whois command
whois google.com
It it outputs a correct message (and not “No whois server”), then internet works.
The next step would be to edit the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list to default debian sources. For example:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
and edit the two active (blue) entries to:deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian buster main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ buster/updates main contrib non-freeand the antix.list to defaults with:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
and edit the only active (blue) entry to:
deb http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/buster buster main nonfree nosystemd
Save with Control+O and exit with Control+X
Run again the apt update and see if it works
sudo apt updateHopefully someone with more experience explains what is going on with antiX net.

<big>How to help test (recommended in a VM):</big>
– Set up antiX 19.3 base, upgrading it from buster to testing, in any of two different ways.
A. Try to upgrade before installing (6 GBs of RAM required, this is not a joke).
B. Install first, upgrade everything, create a new user.1. To upgrade, first:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
to install the latest buster packages. Say yes (Y) to all questions ansked.
sudo apt autoremove && sudo apt autocelan && sudo apt clean
to free some RAM/disk space, removing old packages2. Launch the repo manager (Control Centre > Maintenance > Repo manager) to change the repos.
You need to (in the third tab), disable (deselect) all buster-backports and buster-updates sources.
You need to change (as in deselect and select) the “buster” option in antix.list for the “testing” one (deb http://mirror.site/antix/testing testing)
You need to change the “buster” and “buster-security” options in the debian.list for “testing” and “testing-security” (the same as before).
Apply (and if you want to get faster Debian repo, do it) and close.3. Prepare for the upgrade to testing (many steps and errors will come up).
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
Answer yes (Y) to every question. First few packages installing will lead to and error. You will need to
sudo apt -f install
to fix it, then again
sudo apt full-upgrade
it will stop again. You need to autoremove packages
sudo apt autoremove && sudo apt autoclean
and again try upgrading
sudo apt full-upgrade
You may have to repeat this process a few time until almost all the 880 packages are installed. For some reason, some gcc and python2 related packages will be kept back. Except for these, you are almost done.4. Reinstall desktop-session-antix
sudo apt install --reinstall desktop-session-antix
Very important to fix some duplication of other-desktop sessions.5. Install if running live (don’t keep home changes), or create a new user if already installed.
6. Reboot and (hopefully) enter to your upgraded antiX testing VM.
Test the apps listed above (recently migrated) and any other ones the dev team needs to be checked.antiX Live system enthusiast.

Check that you are using the “nosystemd” option in the antix.list file for the antiX repos.
When I try to install systemd on antiX 19.3 with the “default” repos, I get:$ sudo apt install systemd Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: systemd : Depends: libsystemd0 (= 241-7~deb10u4) Conflicts: consolekit but 1.2.1-8~antix1 is to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.and I get the same result with antiX 19.3 core version, but with one less line:
$ sudo apt install systemd Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: systemd : Depends: libsystemd0 (= 241-7~deb10u4) E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. So my guess is that there is something else that is causing problems on your setup.

Test on the computer that has the Gigabyte GA-8S661FXM-775 motherboard and SIS video card, using the ISO “antiX-19-legacy-bet1_386-base.iso”
It worked similar to the test of the other motherboard with SIS video, flaws in the menus. And the video is similar to antiX 19.3 full 64 or 32 bytes in compatible video driver.
He did not display the message he had displayed on the other computer.
Due to the amount of memory of 512 MB, I was unable to play a video on Youtube with Firefox. The internet connection is via cable. Testing video and audio with MSTube, the video played with much higher quality than in Firefox. Consumption of RAM memory during the video in execution, according to Conky consumption of about 287 MB and in the htop consumption of RAM memory in about 323 MB and processing between 99.2 and 100%.
I had forgotten to report that in the three tests the audio and the cable network connection worked perfectly.
Thank you.

Test on the computer that has the Asus P5V800-MX motherboard and VIA graphics card, using the ISO “antiX-19-legacy-bet1_386-base.iso”
It worked even better than with SIS video, less flaws in the menus. And the video is similar to antiX 19.3 full 64 or 32 bytes in compatible video driver.
Did not display the message you had displayed on the other computer
I repeated the test, playing a 21 min YouTube video with Firefox, with an internet connection via cable. The video played at a low quality, but for computer specifications, it was excellent. Consumption of RAM memory during the video being played, according to Conky consumption of approximately 395 MB and in the htop consumption of RAM memory of approximately 450 MB and processing at 100%. The purpose of this test with Youtube directly in the browser is to simulate a user action where it forces the computer to the maximum.

Hello everyone I’m new to Linux and decided to try AntiX (I used to sit on Manjaro XFCE). Used automatic disk partitioning and at the end of the installation gave an error related to GRUB: “GRUB installation failed. You can reboot to the live medium and use the GRUB Rescue menu to repair the installation.”
