      @caprea

I changed the repo list as recommended:

      $ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
      # Use with Debian Stable/buster repositories. Set as default for antiX-19.
deb http://mxlinux.mirrors.uk2.net/packages/antix/buster/ buster main nonfree nosystemd
      # deb http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/buster/ buster main nonfree nosystemd
      # deb-src http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/buster/ buster main nonfree nosystemd

      # Use with Debian Testing/'rolling' repositories.
      # deb http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/testing/ testing main nonfree nosystemd
      # deb-src http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/testing/ testing main nonfree nosystemd

      # Use with Debian Sid repositories.
      # deb http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/sid/ sid main nonfree nosystemd
      # deb-src http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/sid/ sid main nonfree nosystemd

Unfortunately, the problem still seems to be the same:

Is this the same kernel as mentioned in the OP “The last kernel of this series is 4.9.337” ? Or is it newer or older? How can I tell?

If I look in the antiX “Package Installer” I see no ‘greyed out’ items – Does that mean my current kernel is not known to this app?
I see a (4.9.0-326-486) kernel listed – is this the last of the 4.9 series available to antiX? Is it worth experimenting with this, or should I abandon 4.9 (in the light of the OP) and start trying out 4.19, then 5.10 if 4.19 does not work?

I get the impression this means my system is not taking advantage of more recent security fixes? Is there a recommended upgrade path?

My ‘maintenance’ basically involves entering ‘sudo apt update;sudo apt full-upgrade’ every now and then. I am guessing this is not quite enough. Is there a single place I can scan for exciting news and recommendations about keeping my Pentium M “not too far behind”?

Of course, for First Prize : Is there a chance of getting onto an “auto-upgrade” kernel series, so I would actually not have to face the gruelling task of scanning the occasional Internet page? I have heard the Internet is a dangerous place.

Thanks for keeping this slightly wobbly old machine usable.

            Hi-

Saw the other posts regarding “broken packages” – never enabled:

deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org bullseye main non-free (or any variation of it)

Only default repositories except for a brief installation of MXrepo for installing “indicator-keylock” and removed MXrepo and updated immediately after.

Thanks for any help with this.

I did an installation (formatting = f2fs) with the NVIDIA driver installed.
              The installation went well.

                Some disadvantages compairing with antiX:

                1. antiX apps does not install and update if antix-repo is not enabled.
                2. package zeitgeist is good to remove, because it may not so good for privacy.
                3. There is candy icon size error when installing updates.

                Some advantages in LegacyOS

                1. Lot of programs installed out of box
                2. Runs fast and is almost pure antiX after enabling antix-repo (/etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list).

                  Hello to all,

I get this message when I do the “sudo apt update” command.
I have searched the internet but I can’t find anything. Is it related to my computer? Is it a repository bug? Do I have to wait for the repository to work?

I agree with caprea. Please type in inxi -r, copy the contents of the output and paste it here.

The results should have this format (including just a couple of lines from my output).

I want to make a link for my desktop, to open my Budgeting Spreadsheet – but it’s not working. I’m attaching 3 screenshots: Trying to make the link, failing to make the link, and the file’s properties.

Background info that might be important:
                          * I repartitioned my external hard drive, where all my data files are kept.
                          * I re-encrypted partition #7, where my Budgeting Spreadsheet is stored. This changed its encryption from TrueCrypt method to VeraCrypt method.
                          * I used a combination of copy/paste and LuckyBackup, to restore the data files from my backup external hard drive, into the newly formatted primary hard drive.

I suspect the problem is that the file’s properties now disallow anyone but the owner working with the files. I have 2 antiX OS’s, v19.4 and v21, on 2 different machines, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference which one I use. Neither antiX can make the needed link for the desktop.

But, I also have a Windows 10 installation of each of my laptops, and Windows can make the needed link.

In the course of trying to perform a normal backup, I found that the newly formatted primary drive’s files overwrote the original files on the backup drive. So, ALL of the restored files on both primary & backup external drives are now set as the limited permissions, not allowing anything for Group. This was inconvenient, but it didn’t cause any real problems right away, other than consuming extra time.

I can still access the Budgeting Spreadsheet, but I need to navigate to the subdirectory, and click on it directly. That’s an inconvenience, and I’d like to fix this problem instead of just living with it.

Note that I’d previously had a link on the desktop, to the Budgeting Spreadsheet, and it continued working after I reformatted the partitions and restored the files. But, what screwed things up was when I did a major restructuring of my archive of data files. The Budgeting Spreadsheeit isn’t where it used to be, and requires a new link on the desktop. Which is what I don’t seem to be able to create.

Also note that I can’t make links to other normal data files on the external HD’s So, the problem isn’t limited to just the Budgeting Spreadhseet. It’s all the data files on the external HD’s.

I’m including the output of inxi -Fxxxrz.
At least, for one of the machines… Neither the antiX 19.4 or the antix 21 can make the needed link.

I’m not sure how to fix this. Can anybody talk me through it?

NOTE: I screwed up the screenshot for trying to make a link, the first time I tried – made it look like I hadn’t changed the filename. But, I DID. So, I tried again, and took a new screenshot – but, the forum’s editing doesn’t let me see or edit the attachments! It made it look as if the attachments were simply GONE – which is why I added them all a 2nd time. So, just ignore the 1st 3 attachments, which includes the defective 1st copy of trying to make a link screenshot.

Now, the strangest thing: I made an iso-snapshot of that installed system, and ran it frugal from the very same computer/hdd. And it only took 4 seconds to load the kernel!

So I don’t know why the installed system gets stalled as it does. I’ll keep searching, and report back if I can find anything. For curiosity & testing’s sake more than anything (since I personally prefer frugal, anyway).

                              confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

On antiX 22, 64 bits, runnit (that recently had broken packages related to libreoffice), when I run sudo apt upgrade, I get a warning there’s a new package.
                                  apt list –upgradable

                                  tells me this:

                                  apt list --upgradable

sudo apt upgrade tells me there are no new packages.
