      To enable Debian testing:

      Launch antiX Repo manager (Control centre > Maintenance > Repo manager)
      Go to “Debian repos” tab.
      Unmark all stable repos (debian-stable-updates.list, deb buster main and deb buster/updates)
      Mark testing repos (deb testing main, deb testing-security main).
      Apply changes.

      To enable antiX testing (antiX packages held in testing, not including debian general packages)

      Launch antiX Repo Manager
      Go to “Individual sources” tab.
      For the antix.list list, unmark deb buster main and mark deb testing main

      For both cases, pay atention they start with deb and not deb-scr

        I thought to give waterfox a try, but:

        Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade

        The following packages have unresolvable dependencies. Make sure that all required repositories are added and enabled in the preferences.

         Depends: waterfox-classic-kpe but it is not installable

          Thanks for all the replies.

          About antiX Repo Manager, it has been my experience that it always “displays” the last repo mirror (in this case, Vietnamese mirror), but that doesn’t mean it is the one selected.

          I think I had this experience in the past, too.

          You can check what repo you are using by going to the “Individual sources” tab in the Repo Manager. Under antix.list you should be able to see what repo mirror is being used.

          Indeed, under antix.list I see the la.mxrepo.com. The problem is that I didn’t see which one mirror was used before I made the change!

          In antiX, there are always 2 different firefox versions available from the repos:
          firefox – The normal, the newest firefox Quantum, anticapitalista has updated it to vs 76
          firefox-esr – The long time support (something like LTS) version of Mozilla Firefox, the one that comes installed by default in antiX.

          I used the Package Installer and installed the latest firefox. It’s the 76.0 (32-bit) version, but it says “Firefox Browser” and not “Firefox Quantum” as the firefox-esr version does.
          It doesn’t seem to be too slow even for this old P4 laptop with the 1gb ram. I say it, because this was the main reason I turned to palemoon in the past.

          You can have both installed at the same time, so no problem there. I prefer to stay in the esr version (less bugs and doesn’t update so often).

          Actually, I have both of them installed now. Is the 68.8.0esr version the newest esr version?

          We have no control over the mirrors – the vast majority seem to be reliable, a few are not.

          Is the la.mxrepo.com a reliable one? Is it suggested to keep on with it now?

            I think we are all mixing things up.

            Hopefully this will also help @greyowl, who is interested in the latest version of firefox.

              I had a nice post before but upon loading several screen captures in my previous post (how many can I post?) got booted as spam! I’ll be curt.

              1. Cd-dvd not reading, mounting.Reading music nor pictures. (I already checked quite a bit on these forums for this issue and nothing clear nor specific about my problem.) Solved! (I did actually find something on the forums:

              $ sudo mkdir /media/sr0, I tried it, and it worked. So I did the same for the 2nd dvd/burner drive. )

              2. Cannot play streaming music: StreamTuner2,MPS, Poorman etc.
              3. I downloaded packets thru installer and manager in control center eg. SuperTuxKart and cannot find them or make them run. Does not appear in menu. (how can I see a list of my installed packages or manage them?) Is there an auto update manager I can run or how?
              4. How to find a Weather conky or display on desktop.
              5. Making desktop icons for favorite apps.(solved, I found this out alone, sorry)
              That is it for now. Thanks comrades!

                HI guys, I’ve listed my specs to get help completing my install and getting this system functioning. I have listed the issues I’m having with hardware and software since my install. I’ve numbered my priorities:
                1. Cd, dvd, not mounting or finding file. (I would like to include a screen shot of the error message, but I don’t know how on here)
                2. Problems streaming music: StreamTuner2, or Poormanradio. (I also downloaded some apps thru package installer and manager and cannot find them) eg. SuperTuxCart not listed in my apps menu.
                3. Not able to read cd pictures nor music. (See 1)
                4. MPS youtube not working. (API issue; I checked some of this out and seems a little complicated with google and registering.) SMTube works; however to play videos or music I have to right click “read with: mpv + youtube-dl” I would like this to work by just clicking on the link.
                5. Once I get most of these working how can I make them desktop short cuts? Easy for someone not used to computers : watch and manage pictures & listen to music.
                6. Is there an automatic update manager?
                7. What weather conky can I use on desktop?
                8. Those are my main issues. The next 2 I might as well give my impressions so far.
                9. Very speedy. As you can see by my specs this is a dinosaur desktop from the beginning of the new millenia. In comparing the WINXp OS to Antix OS on this machine I am amazed at how functional it has now become. Sorry for the rant, but I realize that some people and me prior to linux would stop using a computer or go and buy a new one because of the Windows bog down since it is just so long to boot and open windows and the apps and updates ahhh. So if I get all my issues resolved and I am sure I will: 3 thumbs up for Antix for old computers (which is the search term I used to find out about Antix).
                10. Happy so far, works pretty well and lite for 512mb ram system. Still learning and playing around updating and configuring, Will use again on another machine.
                Thank you.

                      thanks for the quick response… 🙂

                      i still don’t see a new init version in a couple of mirrors i tried, so i guess i’ll wait a bit longer to try it out..
                      a couple of other notes from dist-upgrade :

                      about fbsplash. even if doing step 3 before dist-upgrade, i still get :

                      dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/initscripts_2.96-3_all.deb (–unpack):
                      trying to overwrite ‘/etc/rc.local’, which is also in package fbsplash-antix 0.3.2

                      so i chose to remove fbsplash-antix, dist-upgrade, then reinstall.. that worked ok, but maybe there’s another way to workaround(?)

                      another thing, dist-upgrade tries to change some files in /etc, that contain previous antix adjustments since installation (not personal) :
                      /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list (package: apt-antix)
                      /etc/sysctl.conf (package: procps)
                      could just be normal behavior, just sayin’..

                      have to say once again, thanks for all your work in antix 🙂

                          hello all, i just put together a pretty old pc that im wanting to play old games on, i found out about antix linux while watching a youtube video, and i downloaded and installed it on this box, im running a geforce 6800gs agp graphics, everything is working on this system, but im using the nouveau driver and i would like to install the nvidia 340xx legacy drivers. can the legacy driver be installed on this kernel, or do i need to install an older kernel to get this working, this system will just be used for older games, and light web browsing. thanks in advance, ill post the system specs bellow

                            All new isos are bug-fix/upgrades/improvements of antiX-19 sysvinit series.

                            BONUS: We now offer versions running the runit init system as well.

                            No need to download if using antiX-19(.x).

                            NOTE: All base versions are antiX-19.2.1 since I re-uploaded the iso files because there was an issue with connman wifi connection. Apologies to those who downloaded antiX-19.2 base versions.

                            antiX-19.2 (Hannie Schaft) is based on Debian Buster and is fully systemd-free.

                            As usual we offer the following systemd-free flavours for both 32 and 64 bit architecture, running sysvinit or runit.

                            antiX-full (c1.1GB) – 4 windows managers – IceWM (default), fluxbox, jwm and herbstluftwm plus full libreoffice suite.

                            antiX-base (c700MB so fits on a cd) – 4 windows managers – IceWM (default), fluxbox, jwm and herbstluftwm.

                            antiX-core (c350MB) – no X, cli-installer without UEFI support nor encryption, but should support most wireless.

                            antiX-net (c140MB)- no X, cli-installer without UEFI support nor encryption. Just enough to get you connected (wired) and ready to build.

                            The 32 bit version uses a non-pae kernel.

                            Changes:

                            * We believe we have fixed the issue when running (g)ufw firewall
                            * apt-notifier included and enabled on full versions for those who prefer update notifications
                            * Tray icon manager for IceWM
                            * Improved and updated localisation
                            * Improved cli-installer – more ‘safety’ checks added
                            * nosystemd repo added to antix.list sources
                            * Debian buster-backports repository enabled
                            * mps-youtube includes fix for apt_key bug
                            * A newer 4.9.212 kernel
                            * firefox-esr (68.6.0esr)
                            * libreoffice 6.4.1
                            * IceWM upgraded to latest upstream version (1.6.5)
                            * fluxbox upgraded to 1.3.7
                            * mtpaint upgraded to version 3.49
                            * runit backported from Debian sid
                            * links(2) cli browser to latest upstream version (2.20.2)
                            * eudev (3.2.9) instead of systemd-udev
                            * elogind upgrade to 243.7
                            * consolekit2 available
                            * ceni network manager included, but connman is default on full and base
                            * latest cherrytree (0.3.9) hierarchical note taking application
                            * various upstream Debian security upgrades

                            See here for full list of what’s included on antiX-19 series.

                            Enjoy!

                            antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

                              latest sane-backends debs available in repos for testing.
                              You need to edit antix.list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d and temporarily add dev so it looks something like this

                              deb http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/buster/ buster main nonfree nosystemd dev

                              sudo apt update && sudo apt install sane sane-utils

                              Please let us know if this new set of debs work.

                                Thanks for the tip, Xecure – this looks exactly like what I’d want. However, I’d like to enable this as a repo, but I get a complaint that it isn’t secure because
                                it doesn’t have a Release file. I add this line to my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list (really, just guessing at the syntax:)

                                deb http://la.mxrepo.com/mx/testrepo/pool/test/s/sane-backends/ testing main nonfree

                                Should I ignore the “security” warning, and just go ahead with this, or is there another way? I could always go through installing each .deb file individually (wouldn’t be that hard, I guess), but they’d have to be installed in a specific order, right? (In the JWM example I gave in my first post, that was only one .deb file, IIRC.)

                                  This readout is from my Chromebook. I had dist-upgraded earlier. I accepted pkg maint ver = y and then tested to see if any changes. No harm no foul.
