Some users have reported issues with a long delay when booting due to networking (waiting for eth etc).

I have repackaged the debian/buster version of ifupdown and need to check that it works (ie no more delays) in as many situations as possible.

To try, add dev to the /etc/apt/sourcs.list.d/antix.list, so it looks something like this.

deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/buster buster main nonfree dev

      apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

      Reboot and post results.

This also applies to testing and sid users.

Please test if using connman, ceni or something else and if you use wired and/or wireless.

      Thanks

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

this 17.4 was installed on 2019-03-07 with the sid-Repos. From the beginning I included the siduction kernel. I do the dist-upgrade weekly. So far I haven’t had to solve any serious problems. It just runs. 😉
What’s amazing is that the dist-upgrade runs much faster than the original in siduction on the same machine.

Well, I tried to watch this video file (out terminal) till I noticed the audio goes normally but the video started to run slow, yeah no sync. I was researching and there is no hardware acceleration (gpu) to this machine for videos. So, whatever the situation is: I wanna know if we’re capable or possible to watch these HD videos with no issues. I am minding on looking for a conversor who drop its resolution to the native of this computer (1024×600).

Btw, I was trying to use conman for wifi, but I had to ifconfig wlan up (in sudo) then turn off and turn it on and the conman started to show the wireless networks (ssid), so I’d like to know, if I could manage the wireless thing without the sudo thing.

I had presented this before, but here it goes again:

Just some corrected information regarding AntiX 19 B3 4.9.189 kernel:

I clean installed antiX 19 beta 3 [original boot ISO, with default kernel 4.9.189] on a Lenovo ThinkPad T450s [model-2015] and it booted to a blank screen – tried this many, many times making new ISO-USB boot drives. Same result.

Next, installed it on a Lenovo ThinkPad T420, where it runs as expected, only changed the kernel to 5.2.8, made snapshot and live USB, then installed back on Lenovo ThinkPad T450s and no longer blank – updated, everything seems to be running fine so far. The imported files are still executable (as with all the various laptops tried), but installed Thunar – it recognizes the files correctly.

I apologize for the confusing information (inxi -F output) previously posted with wrong kernel [4.19] in the system information output. There were so many attempts at this (different drivers, etc) that I erroneously posted the data from a system that was transferred from a fully installed B3 snapshot/USB installed on another laptop and then installed on the T450s. [This did not work very well – no way to connect to the internet.]

The 4.9.189 default kernel on the T450s booted to a blank screen and therefore could not provide the system info output…

The “Intel HD Graphics 5500” is where the problem is, I believe.

It would be likely impossible to make antiX configured for thousands of different devices, but hope this is somehow helpful information.

Again, sorry for the wrong system data on the previous post.

Installed MX19 B2.1 on the same T450s laptop. Installed the antiX 4.9.189 driver and booted to it. Tried to update it and the desktop started screen-tearing and froze within minutes – could only power off – nothing worked.

Rebooted and again, within minutes the desktop image turned to a black & white photo and froze – could only power off.

Rebooted and again, and quickly, opened “Tweak” in MX Tools and switched the driver to “Intel” – froze on the way out – could only power off.

Rebooted and all was running fine with the new driver.

Guess I’ll post a example of what I need to move to hardware. I like moving successful antix installs in to the hardware section when I notice a thread .

See that code box on the tool bar. I hit that first . Looks like nothing happened. But if you look at the button. It switched from code to /code. I paste my inxi -v8 -z readout before I hit the /code button . That is how I keep track of invisible code tags < My eye sight on a chromebook is questionable >

I tried the apt update, apt full-upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade hoping it solves the driver installation issues, I was using rfkill, removing /dev/rfkill and many stuff u can check out over internet about unable to start the wlan0, it can’t get up.
Also I can’t add native screen resolution of this laptop, always say something about gamma stuff, experience tell me it is driver stuff, because video also run slowly, while in browser runs even slower and very bad quality. Xrandr failed to change it and it keeps the resolution I did pick when I did install the distro.

If anyone got any idea this far, something to try or do, besides resetting bios and these stuff that I already tried, show up them in this topic

                  This is a signature.

                    Hi anticapitalista,

I tried the 19b2 on my old P-III/1Ghz/512MbRAM machine. I had a challenge getting it to boot since this machine doesn’t boot from USB. But I managed to figure it out using Plop. When I tried using the DVD to boot I kept getting a lot of I/O errors. Eventually it just hung up and I had to power down. When I used the USB it worked.

I don’t know if it is a bug, but when I first got the Live desktop up and running I looked at the menu (the default Rox-IceWM) and the Applications menu had only one entry for Synaptic. All the other entries for that menu were missing. I selected “Update Menu” and it fixed it. The CC worked fine and the terminal. Only had that one glitch.

I’ve used Package Manager to install SeaMonkey. It works fine. I tested SMTube, it works fine. All-in-all I think this version is better OOTB for this machine than was version 17. I’ll be testing some more but so far so good on this ancient kit!

                    Thank you,
                    Seaken64

I installed b2 on LiveUSB today. It is running just fine on my Core2Duo class laptop. I used the 32-bit version.

It seems to be the consensus that newbies are afraid of text and will only accept a distro that meets their idea of good looks. It’s a good thing I don’t subscribe to those ideas since my first impression of the wall paper was “yuck!” – I hated it. And I said to myself “what happened to that nice picture that was used in b1?” But I think it’s silly to make a decision about a distro based on the default wallpaper. I hated several of the past default wallpapers too, especially the shells in the sand. Fortunately I know it’s possible to change the wallpaper to whatever I like.

And I don’t see the difference to the seeing the text splash screens over the scrolling text. I guess I am just dense. But it doesn’t bother me whatever is on the boot screen. I’ll learn how to change it later. And won’t a newbie also find the boot menu confusing? “What is grub?” they’ll say. Makes no difference. I think it is an impossible task to formulate a screen for the whims of every possible user who has their own opinion of what is “best” or “better” than what you like.

Does it work? Does antiX help me get more life out of my no-longer-supported-because-it-won’t run-Windows-10 computer? Great! I’ll learn how to set it up and make it suit my tastes later. If I can’t make it work for me, no mater how many nice pictures and colors it presents to me, I will move on to something else.

Thank you for antiX. It’s a great distro. I’m so glad it is not trying to be something it is not (Ubuntu, Lubuntu, whatever).

InVirtualBox I keep a basic version of my System. That one does not have this issue either.
So it is caused by additional packages.

If I run ‘# apt install -d libsystemd0’ the result is:

                          # apt install -d libsystemd0

                          Do you have any ideas?

If I do not find a simple solution, my strategy will be:
                          – Wait a week or two. Maybe the issue will be solved by upgraded packages.
                          – If not, I shall perform ‘# apt full-upgrade’ and then reinstall the removed packages.

The problem may be due to many things.
                                – Slim not communicating with X server (you could see this in /var/log/slim.log)
                                – It could be a problem with dBus (you may see something in /var/log/daemon.log)
                                – It could be trouble with Xserver (you could see this in /var/log/Xorg.0.log)
                                – It could be a problem with the graphics driver
                                – It could be a problem with elogind

I am no expert, so I won’t be able to help you troubleshoot and find the true problem, at least with so little information. I have read that modifying boot parameters usually works to circumvent these problems. It has worked for me in the past, but I never had your specific problem, so anything I suggest would be shooting in the dark.

For now, something you haven’t mentioned trying, select Failsafe Boot (if not in main boot menu, in Advanced Options) when booting from live-USB. Or, if using your own Custom parameters and persistence, in your Custom Boot, add the Failsafe parameter. If slim DOES load, then we are a step closer to figuring out what is going on.

The best thing for you would be to get the real experts here, like BitJam, to recommend boot parameters for you.

By the way, we don’t all move around in the MX forum. I am sure the devs thank you for your work testing out antiX, but the MX forum has few antiX users (and the devs really are too busy), so recieving help there, (even for reporting bugs) may be difficult.

And you can navigate to “Active Topics” to see all topics ordered by recent activity.

In antixforum.com it is the same. You should see the recent replies at the top

and also be able to see all the topics ordered by recent activity in “Topic Freshness”

As you see above, there ARE topics related to antiX 19 beta.
You could also use the Search Forums Searchbox option (see above image) and search for “antiX beta” there. Topics are ordered from most recent to “oldest”.

I hope this helps you navigate antixforum.com in the future.
