      Greetings all,

I’m an antiX newbie and am generally not too acquainted with the use of forums. Hopefully someone will inform me if there is a more appropriate place or way I should have posted this.

I’ll certainly be grateful if someone can provide any pointers or advice that will spare me some of the endless rabbit holes I’m finding around:

      $ wine pcad2009smarteng.exe

This is progeCAD 2009 Smart!, a ten-year old Windows shareware clone of the ubiquitous professional computer aided design program AutoCAD that is licensed for free non-business use.

Wine, of course, is the Windows-to-Linux compatibility layer package ‘Wine Is Not an Emulator’.

progeCAD runs well under other instances and versions of Wine in Debian Stretch and Ubuntu flavors Ubuntu 18.04.2, Lubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu MATE 16.04; is workable but produces no working desktop icon, menu entry, or shortcut in Kubuntu 18.04. Have yet to try Xubuntu or MX.

Following are most of the gory details I can think of:

      wine/stable,stable,now 1.8.7-2 all [installed]
      wine64/stable,now 1.8.7-2 amd64 [installed,automatic]
      wine32/stable,now 1.8.7-2 i386 [installed]
      mono-complete/stable,now 4.6.2.7+dfsg-1 amd64 [installed]

I used winecfg to set things to Windows Vista application setting which is definitely compatible with progeCAD 2009 Smart!. But there is some confusion in my mind about 32-bit/64-bit program status. My understanding is that it is a 64-bit program; it runs under wine64 in other operating systems, but I don’t really know what it does ‘under the hood’ and if I attempt to run wine against icad.exe from the home directory (above but containing .wine) I get:

      $ wine icad.exe
      wine: cannot find L”C:\\windows\\system32\\icad.exe”

Upon the command ‘~$ wine pcad2009smarteng.exe’, progeCAD installed properly as expected in accordance with previous experience to the point of opening up a server to register the license. This worked properly but without opening a browser and webpage in the manner I had come to expect (which I believe should be via Gecko), but after the program installed, progeCAD failed to open its program window and launch as it should.

Also, during the progress of the installation process, I never saw expected popup windows about installing Mono and Gecko. No menu entry or icon installed to the desktop either.

But progeCAD did install to the expected location:

      .wine/drive_c/Program Files’/progeSOFT/’progeCAD 2009 Smart! ENG’

From whence prior experience suggests it should be directly launchable via the command line with:

      $ wine icad.exe

But instead of the open program I get all sorts of error output (and I’ve yet to/may not be able to teach myself much use of winedbg):

      demo@antix1:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/progeSOFT/progeCAD 2009 Smart! ENG

dist-upgrade was done earlier after I edited my repo line.

            Hi Again!

Would have answered sooner, but I’ve been busy with some acadmeic STUFF…

Anyway — I got antiX 17.4 working properly now! hooray!

First thing I tried was noClue’s suggestion about the GPARTED partition thing; just removing the partition that was already there.

Next, I installed grub on /dev/sda, also as noClue suggested. That was probably where I was going wrong from the get-go.

            Ayway, it is working now.

As for rokytnji’s suggestion about inxi input; here it is, for posterity (sort of):

Finally; anks for remiding me about that, caprea. That was something I just plain forgot about.

Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions, all. I now have antiX as the lone OS on my ASUS X55U laptop, to get some more use out of it.

            So far, so good!

If you have not installed anything outside the repos, then a dist-upgrade should be ok. I’d suggest doing it in a terminal with apt-get.

              1. Make sure you are up to date with the default antiX-16 repos, ie jessie.
              2. If all is ok with this update, edit debian.list and antix.list to stretch. Do not use mx repos.
              3. If you want eudev, add it to the list in 5. (I added it)
              4. apt-get update and then apt-get dist-upgrade. Check nothing important will be uninstalled.
              5. You will need to install the following apps manually, since they are not on antiX-16, but are on 17. (You can choose which ones you don’t want)

              It’s not clear for beginners!
I have a friend who tested, and didn’t understand these guidelines.

              1. It means sudo apt-get update

              2. It means look in /etc/apt/sources.list.d
              cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d
Then open repositories files, remove the #behind the line with stretch, and put a #behind the line who had no #

              nano antix.list
              nano debian.list

I made all these things on this old computer, and made a mistake with GRUB (I could correct it with the liveusb, but preferred to install a new system…)

I use archlinux, tested gentoo, debian + JWM, and then think we can not allways know everything about every OS, even somebody which come from an other linux and is a little bit beginner appreciate more details.

If you have not installed anything outside the repos, then a dist-upgrade should be ok. I’d suggest doing it in a terminal with apt-get.

                1. Make sure you are up to date with the default antiX-16 repos, ie jessie.

                  Sorry, anticapitalista, same as before:

                  sudo apt-get update
                  sudo apt-get install palemoon
Los siguientes paquetes tienen dependencias incumplidas:
                   palemoon : Depende: libfontconfig1 (>= 2.12.6) pero 2.11.0-6.7+b1 va a ser instalado

But I supose is a question of time, when the mirror I’m connected to upgrades packages or something, am I right? Just in case, my actual repos:

                        Yes, I am in Canada.

A while back, I used the repo-manager to select the utoronto mirror. I think that is the reason that it was in my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list but I could be mistaken. Maybe, I added it manually.

I have never used the button: “Select Fastest antiX Repo for me”
If I do this will it change antix.list and remove deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd nonfree which I just added?

I don’t think that I understand the use of the Repo Manager.

                          Not quite.

Your /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list should only have one entry ie

deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd nonfree

                          so delete the line with

                          deb http://mirror.utoronto.ca/mxlinux/antix/stretch/ stretch nosystemd main

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

                              1. delete the /etc/apt/sources.list file not needed and does not exist on a default antiX install.

                              2. /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list should only have this entry – delete the other one

deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd nonfree

Do apt-get update to get in sync

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

I added deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd nonfree to my antix.list.
Then, I did dist-upgrade and Adobe Flash updated OK.
Something strange is happening when I do apt-get update–see below.

Now, here is the inxi -r below:

                                  It is in your repos

Is by any chance your nonfree repos not enabled ?
