On a fresh (yesterday) install of antiX-17.2, SpaceFM/Fluxbox
there has appeared this empty anixsources.desktop file on the desktop.

It doesn’t appear to cause any problem except to my mind.
Does someone have an idea how to stop it from occurring?

So repo-manager is not working properly.

I also think the repomanager does not work flawlessly but it is not at all clear to me under which circumstances this is the case.
It is missing however always the first sid or testing in the line of the antix.list, if it does not work.

Thanks for the video link; though for some weird reason, I suspect that grub has nothing to do with it –
I had actually done that particular update before my system had borked, and everything was fine; I was even using Sid! I had
come to suspect that Sid was to blame, so I had done a fresh install using Stretch, and to my surprise, the same thing was happening.

          One thing I at least had noticed in Sid was that I could use, say, Ctrl+Alt+F1 or +F2 to get to a login terminal, and actually still use my system from there;
I just could never get into X. Now, it’s even worse – it just shows a black screen, as if no image had loaded, and I can’t get into my ttys.

          Here are the requested outputs.

The last one I added was the ‘eid’-one, managed by the belgian government, to support a chipcard reader plugin in firefox. But I’m not sure that triggered the problem.

Sorry, there is an error :

you MUST change the repo in the antix.list BEFORE you do the apt install.
Otherwise you will get systemd stuff installed and that breaks your system installation.
              The antix-16 is

              # Use with Debian Old-Stable/Jessie repositories. Set as default for antiX-16.
              deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/jessie jessie main nosystemd

unfortunatelly, the Wheezy repos have been moved to the Debian archive already. So it is not possible to update antiX-15 easily.
I would skip this step and try to upgrade to Jessie (= antiX-16) directly. This is already a huge step and there maybe some problems with several packages if the list of the dependencies is nor correct or some dependencies are missing. Anyway, give it a try.

My suggestion is to change the default runlevel in
/etc/inittab from 5 to 3 and restart the PC at first.
With this change your start a command line session, what is saver in case the upgrading of some gui application gets wrong.
Run the midnight commander with mc. It makes the following tasks easier.

The first step is the modification (as root) of the source list files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d.
The debian.list file should look like this :

                # Debian Old-Stable. Default for antiX-16.
                # Use for maximum stability INSTEAD of the ‘rolling’ TESTING release concept.
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
                deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
                #deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

The next step is to get a list of the upgradable packages with the command
                apt list --upgradable
and then upgrade the packages one by one with
                apt install <package name>
as described in the link given in the posting above.

Acually, if possible start with the core and non-gui packages (if you can identify them), then the Xorg stuff and finally udgrade the gui packages (as browser and all the other graphical applications).

If everything works fine you should have Debian Jessie on the PC.
The next step should be the upgrade with the antix.list file accordingly. However, I don’t know yet, whether and where the antiX repos for antiX-16 are (still) available. Maybe other community members can help here.

After everything works well, you can repeat the whole procedure with the upgrade from Jessie to Stretch.

                Some more notes:
                – are you sure you really need antiX-17 on this PC ? antiX-15 is running, needs less resources and will be probably faster. Not to say, it would save you a lot of time as you may image reading this description
                – there is unfortunately a pretty good chance that some packages and application won’t run after the upgrade any longer, as there are very likely missing dependencies or such things in the Debian (as well as in the antiX) packages
                – therefore there is a risk of getting an unusable system following these steps
                – if you dare to give it a try, you will learn quiet a lot about linux, Debian and antiX…….

                Good luck

I don’t have many repositories set up, but anti’s suggestion to remove apt-show-versions seems to have fixed.

repo-manager is not shown if /usr/sbin/broadcom-manager is not present.
I couldn’t grasp the logic of that, so I temporarily renamed broadcom-manager then launched repo-manager from commandline.
…and, indeed, the absence of b-m doesn’t prevent repo-manager’s operation.

                    --- snip ---

                    Yep, /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list now contains:

                    # Use with Debian Stable/stretch repositories. Set as default for antiX-17. Note new repos
                    deb http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd
                    deb http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd

                    # Use with Debian Sid repositories.

                    #deb-src http://repo.antixlinux.com/sid sid main nosystemd

I restored the broadcom-manager file (so, ruleout its absence as a variable condition)
and re-ran the repo-manager, and chose “Sweden”. The result:

                    deb http://ftp.acc.umu.se/mirror/mxlinux.org/packages/antix/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd
                    deb http://ftp.acc.umu.se/mirror/mxlinux.org/packages/antix/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd

So, it’s a bug and I don’t know whether the second line is accidental, or should be an outcommented-by-default deb-src placeholder line
                    #deb-src http://ftp.acc.umu.se/mirror/mxlinux.org/packages/antix/stretch/ stretch main nosystemd`

                    —————-

a separate bug, or call it a usability issue:

After choosing an item within repo-manager and clicking “Apply”, the radiobox selection snaps back to displaying the last item in the list as currently selected.
Similarly confusing, each time repo-manager is launched, radiobutton always (unconditionally) indicates the last item is the currently selected item.

Not really a new user, but first time on the new forum. I’ve been using 32bit Antix 15 for about three years now, and I’m fully satisfied. But recently Google Music Manager (not an Antix product of course) won’t let me connect with my Google account anymore. In fact, it seems Google Music Manager doesn’t like any 32 bit linux system anymore. So I decided that maybe it was time for an upgrade.

I’m currently reviewing 64 bit Antix 17, and I like it a lot. Some minor problems I had (mouse and rox panel configuration lost when rebooting) have been solved. It mostly just works out of the box now, without much need of tweaking the configuration files.

Still, I haven’t decided yet to make the switch. What do you think: would it be feasible to make a new start with 64 bit Antix 15 in 2018? Or would I be painting myself in a corner?

I’ve got the error message when I used ‘sudo apt install lazarus’

But when I want to install ‘fpc’ and ‘fpc-source’, I got the error:
