I’m away from /home and my connection is awful. Hopefully, this will post.
Use repo-manger or change by hand the antiX repos.
Here is a list of mirrors.

          Good morning from Germany 🙂

          Using
          >>> deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch/ stretch nosystemd main

in antix.list still brings back after apt-get update:

          >>> E: The repository ‘http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch Release’ does no longer have a Release file.

Trying another repo in repomanager does not apply to antix.list.
          btw: Antix 17 64bit – (not 17.1)

          Best regards,

            Hi caprea,
No luck to change the repo to http//nl.mxrepo.com
I have tried it the proposed way in repomanager (clicked the NL repo, clicked apply, did again an apt-get update…) – but the repo still stays to repo.antixlinux.com
Looks like the changes in repomanager will not apply in the antix.list – for whatever reason.

Could you please provide me the deb line for the NL repo? So I could add it manually in antix.list?
            Thanks in advance. 🙂

            Best regards,
            Fonsis

This was installed using John Lewis SeaBios. The whole thread with my involvement is over here

I put this away in storage after my install. I’ve been mostly on my motorcycle shop Desktop system and IBM T430 since then.

But, I am getting it ready for my trips this summer coming up and it is going to be my saddlebag laptop. So I made it current.

Did some touchpad editing after helping another chromebook user on MX forums on his AntiX install. Helping him helped me. Just changing 3 finger right click to 2 finger right click. When you 1st install AntiX . The touchpad default after install is 3 fingers for right click copy and paste.

The thread I helped out on is over here
                  https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=45427&hilit=chromebooks

Gotta give D.O. respects also for giving me ideas in that thread.

AntiX runs good on chromebooks to. If someone finds my thread I think I made already. I will merge it over here into hardware. 🙂

All are kept updated and upgraded as suggested but I am aware of differences, evident in certain icons and texts.
It is evident that I am not always downloading the object code from the same source or from the same places.

I am very satisfied with 16.3 however maybe now is the time to look carefully at 17?

I am also pleasantly surprised that the upgrade went so smooth, thanks to you 🙂

I will leave the two outstanding packages as you suggest.

FYI: I am not sure what this means but this 32-bit PC is still showing antiX-16. Here is the output:

Thanks for the advice but, unless you tell me that this issue cannot be corrected, I prefer to fix this. The 32-bit system has nothing special on it but the 64-bit system has a commercial server on it which would be a pain to re-license. I plan to operate on the 32-bit system first. If that turns out ok, it will give me enough confidence to tackle the 64-bit system.

In case you are wondering, my Linux knowledge level is high. I am a long-time Linux (and Mac and Windoze) developer and have been running rolling release, system-free distributions for years.

To get started, my first question is: based on the ‘testing’ repos, what should the files ‘/etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list’ and ‘/etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list’ contain? My thoughts are:

                        antix.list
                        deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/testing testing main nosystemd
                        deb-src http://repo.antixlinux.com/testing testing main nosystemd
                        debian.list
deb http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
                        deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free

I am uncertain of the Debian multimedia repo (stable or testing). If I am using the testing repo for everything else, is it necessary to go with the testing multimedia repo?

                        TIA

The word “safety” has several meanings.
In terms of “buglessity”, I have the feeling that the testing repo is satisfying to me. I am coming from Ubuntu distros, so the version level of Debian packages belonging to the testing repo is more or less equivalent to the Ubuntu ones. I may change my mind later with bad experiences, but I am coming from this point.
Safety has another meaning that I can experience right here and right now, which is the consistency of repo database. It is fair enough to want to use only one database ie stable, testing or unstable. But do we really have this choice ? I am using a recent Firefox (>58) with a new set of plugins (old ones are not compatible with the new version). To get the last version of it, I added the unstable repo in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list:
                          deb http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ unstable main
To keep priority on testing packages, I added the file /etc/apt/preferences.d/unstable:
                          Package: *
                          Pin: release a=unstable
                          Pin-Priority: 50
My main repo is still testing, but I can install Firefox (non ESR) and get updates about it.
I forgot to tell you that a found a weird dependency of the package gvfs-backends to libnfs8, which is not in the testing repo but in the stable one. So I added the following line in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list :
deb http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
I supposed that priority of testing packages over stable ones is automatic, due to greater versions.
On your advise, I added /etc/apt/preferences.d/01nosystemd:
                          Package: *0nosystemd1*
                          Pin: release o=Debian,a=testing
                          Pin-Priority: 990

(in my case, it is a=testing rather than a=stable, isn’t it ?)

                          Finally my repos are :

                          $ inxi -r

I made #apt-get update and it looks to work !
Today the nosystemd packages gvfs* have been updated (probably from you, thanks) to the same version as systemd ones, so I cannot really say that if systemd version is greater, I still keep nosystemd ones with the update mechanism and the new setting.
With the new version, there is no more dependency on libnfs8, so I can probably remove the stable repo.

To increase the consistency of the AntiX repos, it would be great to automatically add /etc/apt/preferences.d/01nosystemd in the AntiX installer, wouldn’t it ?

                          Thanks for your work !

                            Hi All,

I have two AntiX installations, one 32-bit and one 64-bit. They are both over a year old and I am using the testing repo. I have not been able to update either PC for more than a month. I will focus on the 64-bit installation here. First some preliminaries:

distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdesudo : Depends: kde-runtime (> 4:4.10) but it is not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

On the older 32-bit install, I tested this by installing the dependancy ‘kde-runtime’ which lead to the installation of a lot of packages and another dependancy. In addition, I am not even using KDE (am I?, using the standard DE).

Am I simply going to have to wait until the testing packages are sorted out? Is there something else I should be doing?

                            Any/all help is greatly appreciated.

Just curious why you cannot enable the MX repo in sources.list. Then apt-get update. Install Yacreader. Then comment out MX repo . Then apt-get update again.

Because I run Palemoon which is not in AntiX repos. But is in Steven’s repos at MX linux.

Anyways. Just wondering why? Maybe Dave can pull it in to AntiX stable or testing repos. I don’t know. I don’t know Yacreader dependencies and libraries required for a successful install. But I figure MX repo already covered that. It is in your repo list for a reason. To be used for requests like these.

I am just mentioning all this in this post. Just in case you did know. Just trying to educate is all.

You could try changing the repo highlighted below to match your Jessie update repo
by editing the line in your /etc/apt/sources.list as the page https://packages.debian.org/jessie/amd64/gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly/download does not list the
http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian mirror as a source for the ugly plugins but the mirror below is included in the source list.

I am sure you are aware that you can do this change using the Control Centre —> Maintenance –> Manage APT Repositories

and if so maybe will benefit new users.

                                cheers,
