udev is still needed. To fix, boot into init 3 (console) from the grub menu by appending the end of the boot line with init 3, Run ceni if wireless is needed, then:
        apt-get install udev

        Then:
        nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list

and add “dev” to the end of the repo line (leave a space)

        Then:
        apt-get update
        apt-get dist upgrade

        Reboot
Then remove the dev from the antiX list.

          @cyrilus31 – I use a second-hand Thinkpad L412 (cost £120) and I swapped the hard drive for a ssd.

Well. Mt Emachine 3507 in the motorcycle shop finally started to die on me. So instead of wasting my time now on the reason why.
I BROKE OUT ONE OF MY CITY HALL SERVERS ANS HERE SHE IS.

oops. caps lock was on and I am too lazy to re-type. Oh well.

Everything works out of the box. Sound. Video. Wireless. Nothing negative to report.
I think I have posted already on how I use a sattelite dish for my wireless antenna mounted on the outside wall of the shop.

            i have posted

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problems

            rej

Thanks for bringing to attention the order of what was installed. As I did not know how to describe what the AntiX Package Installer handled it [Packager Installer failed – just asked if I wanted to Exit]- so it gives a further opportunity to clarify with several screenshots, done on a new partition, same device, of IceWM only – no other desktops installed.
Same order I have done on all other PCs, yet some I had tried several times over and over, thinking I might have done something incorrectly and when getting the screenshot of installer, I may have run it again, after Synaptic – don’t remember.

The only thing I could not get a screenshot of was the Pkg installer running apt-get update with the short blue bar going back and forth.

              New Partition IceWM only desktop

              * Attempt through Package Installer first.
              * Synaptic second.
              * Synaptic icon legend – don’t know what the orange dot means & had not been able to find a clear answer online- was only guessing.

              * Terminal findings

Thanks again – hope this is better.

PS. AntiX 16 uses a older version of xorg. Comprende? Because one is Jessie. The other is Stretch.
To clarify a little better. A old IBM 390E would probably run better on some old puppy 3.0 version or AntiX version 6 or 7. Than a modern operating system that ignores that type of gear now. So newer does not mean better.

Just teaching you since you are asking. One expects to work harder when reviving older computers. Now this one. So Far. Is not as picky as my IBM T23. It don’t care what I throw at it.

I removed the 3 virtualbox-guest packages and rebuilt dkms again, without errors this time.

I also installed 4.9.87 kernel to the other (old, too) laptop (see below), without remove the 3 virtualbox-guest packages before. No installation or rebuilding dkms errors.

Repos seem to me the same for both laptops. For the P4 (no errors) one:

For the celeron (virtualbox errors) one:

Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
                                           deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch main nosystemd

Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
deb http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian/ stretch main contrib non-free
                                           deb http://security.debian.org/ stretch/updates main contrib non-free

But the important thing for me is that both laptops seem to work well with 4.9.87 kernel.

                                  Hash Sum mismatch apt-get on adobe-flashplugin amd64 from repo antixlinux.com stretch/main

                                  Hi,
I get failure on ‘apt-get update’ re: package adobe-flashplugin amd64
attempting to upgrade to 20180313.1-1mx17+1. All other package upgrades
to antix 17.1 are OK. I get ‘Hash Sum mismatch’

I tried the usual things I found on the Net, eg.:
                                  apt-get clean
                                  rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists/*
                                  apt-get clean
                                  apt-get update

And I also waited another day thinking the mirrors just need to sync.
Alas, today I still get the error message. As this involves a
antix-specific repo (not a more global debian repo) I thought I’d
inquire to assure nothing is misconfigured. Perhaps only the amd64 repo
                                  is affected.

                                  The machine’s antix.list has only:
                                  deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch main nosystemd

I’m in no hurry for this upgrade; I don’t want to bypass the hash signature
                                  check.

                                  Thanks
