How about spitting out a inxi report after install is done so any mac user can see what the hardware is using with your cheat codes.
On my live antiX USB, I ran:

But on reboot after install, I’m kicked in to a CLI (no GUI desktop).
I edited to GRUB parameters to match my live USB stick parameters I used (“nosplash failsafe disable=lxF”), but no change.I consider 1 Gb of RAM as the bare mininum to use the modern web in antiX- you’ll have to be very careful with RAM usage
Yeah, despite all this work, this machine is very slow — almost unusable. I’m considering using ShredOS to just shred it and landfill it, especially if I can’t get antiX actually installed on the hard drive… But this was a fun project. And if this thread can help others rescue their old Mac(s), all the better!

Thank you for the clarification, Brian. I am not sure we can say 5.18 did not help because, although I installed and booted it, it showed two errors in dmesg. I will quote them from above in case you missed it:
x86/split lock detection: #AC: crashing the kernel on kernel split_locks and warning on user-space split_locks Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.18.0-0.deb11.4-amd64 root=UUID=f84c3aca-a563-421c-b016-525793ef87f1 ro quiet Unknown kernel command line parameters "BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.18.0-0.deb11.4-amd64", will be passed to user space. The same happens with kernel 6.0.
You ask if another distribution could set the correct resoluion. My very first post in this thread answers your question. I repeat that Debain Dog Sid fails to autodetect the correct resolution, but lets me set it manually, so we can say we have a working configuration there. If you will help me extract the relevant files from that and install them into antiX, I will prepare a bootable USB stick with that distribution.
The antiX FAQ says: “A further feature of antiX is that you can install kernels from a variety of sources including Debian, siduction, aptosid and liquorix,” yet in my tests only the kernels listed in the Package Manager boot without those dmesg errors. Perhaps those errors should be invesigated as well?
My /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list lists the Bullseye repository and two commented ones: Testing and Sid. I have found the liquorix repo in various.list and enabled it. apt udpate complained:
E: The repository 'http://liquorix.net/debian sid InRelease' is not signed. N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See apt-secure(8) for repository creation and user configuration detail.Shall I override this check by marking the repository as trusted?
Update:
uname -r on Debian Dog reports: 6.0.0-2-amd64.
xrandr lists about twenty resoltuions, including those below (720×400) and above (1920×1080) the native resolution of my display (1280×1024).December 11, 2022 at 12:17 pm #95385In reply to: XFCE shutdown and restart

live-remaster changed antix.list to an invalid server, it looks. I had saved the /etc folder just before the remaster. I remastered, then rebooted, now its different.
PS: I see it also changed the debian server.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Thank you caprea-
It gave the same response to the antix.list.
The same repo install procedure attempt on an updated boot install media “full x64”, and also on an installed partition with only IceWM, ended with the same results.
checkaptgpg is a file that needed to be installed from Synaptic – that is why “command not found” kept coming up:
rj@antix21rj:~ $ su Password: root@antix21rj:/home/rj# checkaptgpg Checking deb.debian.org_debian_dists_bullseye-backports_InRelease Good GPG signature found. I believe that the gpg package I installed was already there. The key number you gave me matches the one in the terminal output it is looking for.

Tried your suggestion:sudo apt-key adv –keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 –recv-keys F942E0D4E1C726CD
And another found online:
sudo apt-key adv –keyserver hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net:80 –recv-keys F942E0D4E1C726CD
—————-If the key is properly signed, enabled or whatever it needs, it might work.
———–1. updated antiX 21 – boot media – double checked to make sure all updates were now current
2. edited various.list
3. installed gdebi
4. installed gpg key package successfully (although I think it was already there)
5. sudo apt update – same failure

The key installation went well.
I have no idea why the various.list doesn’t get accepted.I also already thought about that you are using a dektop,
What happens if you put the lines in the antiX.list file ?November 28, 2022 at 5:15 am #94293Memberscruffyeagle
I tried to set up an entirely new partition containing antiX-22. I don’t know what I did wrong, but it flopped miserably. I’ve chosen zzz-Icewm desktop. But, this problem extends into other desktops too.
Setting up VeraCrypt seemed to proceed normally – until I tried to actually run the program. I set up a launcher on the desktop, as I normally do – but, clicking on that launcher doesn’t run the program. Instead, it creates a file on my desktop, with a name that’s mainly non-displayable characters.
I’m not sure if I should simply try to start over, or try to fix this installation. I was thinking that perhaps I should try to install VeraCrypt onto the antiX-22 Live flashdrive, and then perform the HD install cloning the flashdrive’s setup?
I’m going to try to attach 3 .jpg’s to display what’s going on. One of them simply shows the permissions for VeraCrypt. The other 2 are to show what I’m seeing with the undisplayable file name.
Here’s the output of inxi -Fxxxrz:

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problemsNovember 14, 2022 at 7:09 am #93168Topic: [SOLVED] Trying to get Bluetooth audio to work
in forum HardwareModeratorBobC
I have tried the suggestions xecure gave in https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/i-cant-get-any-bluetooth-device-to-pair-with-my-pc/#post-49552 and I can get the headset to pair, but I notice that the bluetooth manager does not think its an audio device, and the pulse audio volume control doesn’t see it at all.
If anyone else has gotten this to work, could you please provide a list of what you installed and what needed to be configured? This machine was originally installed as antiX 21 64 bit full, and is up to date with the 4.9 kernel, but I didn’t have any better luck with antiX 22 64 bit full with the 5.10 kernel, and it didn’t work with MX 21 Fluxbox, either.
I spent another day trying, and thus far it has only worked with Win/10 and my android phone. It almost works with Slackel, but that OS can’t connect to the Internet after its installed. I have been avoiding trying Debian and Ubuntu due to their systemd.

What is your plan with the NUC? Home theater PC? Seems like it would be a good form factor to attach to a large TV with Kodi or other media software.
I already did that with a Dell 755 Tower running MX 21 Fluxbox . I use my bookmarks and password login for my roku accounts online.
That Dell was free from city hall when they upgraded their servers. Had to upgrade Windows so the Dell was going to the dumpster.
I have the ancient nvidia card working on that box with the nvidia 390 driver. So watching movies is a breeze on that old server.
I watched Hell or High waterRight now. Just concentrating on getting it to display and boot something on it. See what works and what does not. See if efi partition is gone.
Stuff like that. Check bluetooth and stuff. AntiX for sure though. Kodi not needed since wife pays for roku account. External hard drive will be 500 GB.
To makeup for the small ssd. I won’t need it to automount though. Pretty simple stuff at first. Not sure yet what hunt I will sic that dog on. Land line for right now.
Could become wireless and moved to the shop later. Never played with NUC before. Virgin Territory.Sorry I am hijacking your thread Brian. Bad admin !!!!!!!
Bedtime now. Knowing me. I won’t lose any sleep over it.
Edit. To stay on point

hello @anticapitalista ,
have you tried the default 5.10 Debian kernel?
If that works, then there is something wrong with our 5.10 kernel on some hard drive.
If not, then the fault lies with the 5.10 series.I had not checked this before, but I’ve managed to do some testing early this morning. Here the results:
Since there was no debian kernel 5.10.142 I have tested the nearest available, one before and one after, (5.10.140-1 and 5.10.149-2 both), which come whith packages linux-image-5.10.0-18-686-pae (signed) and linux-image-5.10.0-19-686-pae (signed). As with the most recent 5.19.0-0.deb11.2-686-pae kernel from debian backports antix boots with them straight up to the desktop, no issues. The 5.19 kernel comes with a perfecly stable, fast and fluid noveau (at least when running single head this one is absoulutely equivalent to what I was used from proprietary nvidia driver stuff, but I had not time to test in a multihead setup with an additional screen or TV out by now.).
So I decided to re-check your 5.10.142-antix.2 kernel, I apt-purged it from the system first, then remastered, installed it anew from repos, using apt. But after remaster and live kernel update it fails again with the same issue, not detecting the graphics card properly. So unfortunately this was not an arbitrary faulty install. Then I gave the 5.10.137-antix.1-686-smp-pae kernel a try, same issue with this one, it stops on console login (It is possible to force them into desktop using the fb mode instead of noveau, but only blurry, flickering and lowres screen then, no way to change it to proper resolution using xrandr.) So I reinstalled the 5.19 debian again to the very stick, without changing anything else, and again it ran straight through to desktop.
While installing the 5.x kernels I noticed an additional issue, which might get addressed also (but it doesn’t keep the kernels from booting to desktop, the debian kernels suffer from it also):

Couldn’t find out what triggers the loss, sometimes it happens, and sometimes the old .md5 file is perfectly backuped. But the system works still without these, and I believe they can easily get recreated manually if needed, if I’m not mistaken. Does antiX check the files against them while starting up?
Technical details:
The logs from debian 5.10.0-18 and 5.10.0-19 look exactly like the one from 5.19.0 I’ve posted above, so I don’t repost it here (in case you need them, just let me know, I’ve stored them) Here’s what I’ve got from 5.10.137-antix.1-686-smp-pae kernel:
