@anticapitalista and @masinick Thanks for the answer, I thought I did something wrong. 😉

No, if everything is correct, then I will not change anything. There are new packages and that’s fine.

I have another question then: when updating, I wrote a line with the repository from the official website in antix.list (in my case, this is a russian mirror – deb https://mirror.yandex.ru/mirrors/MX-Linux/MX-Packages/antix/bullseye/ bullseye main nosystemd nonfree), however, after updating, today I found that this file has changed and instead of the previous repository, there is a new one:
deb http://la.mxrepo.com/antix/bullseye bullseye main nosystemd nonfree
Does it make sense to return the original repository?

As for the secondary laptop (part 2: boot into the installed system, where the wi-fi doesn’t work).

A message that seems to be relative appeared (I haven’t noticed it before):

          CMST - Critical Error

Unable to create an interface to connman on the system bus.

CMST will not be able to communicate with connman.

          Regarding /var/log/apt/history.log, see the attachment.

Is it possible the removal of connman-iptables:i386 has caused the problem?

                Hello, need urgently some help:
After my athlon XP (32bit) mainboard running long time rock stable on antiX 19 died from dried out capacitors I’ve got an old Sempron board (64bit) from ModdIt (many thanks again!). Installing antiX 21 on it was quite easy, as usual, it runs like a charm, tested with an uptime of some months already.

But the aftermath is a bit tricky and I actually need some help.

Most pressing issue is: I can’t print. Main reason for this is: There is no printing driver for Linux available for this printer (Canon LBP 8 Mark IV), the existing driver for LBP8 Mark III comes up with unusable poor results (way to low resolution).

So my workaround on the old Athlon System was to start a virtualised Windows 2000 system in virtualbox and print everything needed from within this virtual environment.

After updating the system to antiX 21 I can’t any longer start the virtual machine from the virtualbox installed, it wouldn’t allow me to set the required settings and comes up with an error message:

                Ungültige Einstellungen erkannt:
                Seite: System: Beschleunigung
Die Hardware-Virtualisierung ist in den Systemeinstellungen aktiviert,
obwohl dies vom Host-System nicht unterstützt wird. Deshalb sollte
diese deaktiviert werden, um ein virtuelles System starten zu können

Even when on the settings page the message points to the selection for “Paravirtualisierung” is set to “keinen (none)” it wouldn’t allow me to store the settings, the error message stays active.

Searching the web for this problem it turned out this issue is possibly caused by a modification of virtualbox made starting after Ver 6.0.24:
Die VirtualBox-Versionen bis einschließlich 6.0.24 können VMs sowohl mit als auch ohne VT-x ausführen. VirtualBox 6.1.x und neuer können VMs nur noch mit VT-x ausführen. Der Code für die Ausführung von VMs ohne VT-x wurde entfernt…
They have removed the code for CPUs without hardware virtualisation after this version.
I tried to verify whether my Sempron CPU has or not has this feature, but couldn’t find out definitively. The BIOS also doesn’t tell anything about this. Here are my specs taken from antiX Control center:

Anyway, I wanted to give the virtualbox version 6.0.24 a try, but it seems to be impossible to install it in antiX21, there exist only versions above 6.1, requiring the vt-x capability of the host CPU:

                $ apt-cache policy virtualbox
                virtualbox:
                  Installiert: 6.1.22-dfsg-2~mx21+1
                  Installationskandidat: 6.1.22-dfsg-2~mx21+1
                  Versionstabelle:
                 *** 6.1.22-dfsg-2~mx21+1 500
                        500 http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/mxlinux/packages/antix/bullseye bullseye/main amd64 Packages
                        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
                     6.1.14-dfsg-2~mx19+1 500
                        500 http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/mxlinux/packages/antix/bullseye bullseye/nosystemd amd64 Packages

Also on the virtualbox download site there doesn’t seem to be a deb package available for bullseye: Virtualbox 6.0.24 download page Last one present is for buster. Moreover the packages available on this site will contain dependencies to systemd I believe. But antiX 21 is bullseye, and no systemd.

I also can’t switch to a different virtualisation program, since all my hdd images containing the complete virtualised windows are specifically from virtualbox. They were created before Microsoft had shut down their update servers for Win2000 and WinXP, and they contain all the service packs. I’ve used them on antiX 17 and antiX 19 already, they ran fine always. Now, when switching to another virtualisation program I’d need starting from scratch with the original Win install medium and the original serial and verification code, but there is no microsoft server anymore to authenticate the genuine microsoft thing the installation process asks for. Moreover this will not restore all the service packs needed for proper functioning.

So it looks I’m stuck in compatibility issues with this new antiX 21 install I can’t solve on my own.
                Any help appreciated.

                Robin

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

I first checked out Antix a bit over a year ago, because of the live persistence USB. I was using a shuttle IPC i3 with limited memory and no hard drive. It worked perfect for the six months or so I needed it for a media server and web browsing appliance.

That system is dead now, and most of what I have listed below never ran on it by choice at that time.

When I got the system I’m typing this on, I started with Linux Mint so I could set up a Kodi appliance for a friend. Quick and easy that way.

For the last year I have been running mxLinux “wildflower” no systemd, on an old HP g62 amd laptop and It has taken a bit to get the list below working on it, but I have done so, and am quite happy with the results.

So now the goal of moving my main desktop machine completely to antiX.

Requirements are weird and maybe not possible for a successful desktop installation.

                  MUST HAVE:

Quake 3 Arena: All other of the quake series as well, but I usually don’t have a problem with them.

UnrealTournament GOTY: OldUnreal may have this covered finally for me. I’m currently running the Linux tar.bz on both MXLinux “Wildflower” and Linux Mint “Una”. It works flawlessly in both cases, so I have hopes.

Trilium Notes: It is one of the few things that just works for me, and I have to admit I’m attached to it. I do have a server instance on a laptop, so it will the last challenge, and I only need the desktop instance.

                  PaleMoon: just ’cause.

                  lighttpd: It works for me.

CodeTyphon Studio. It’s what I like, it just works.
I’ve created the liveUSB, hopefully I’ll get it correct to make it persistent on the first try.

                  I begin:

Active Antix Desktop. Persistence failed first attempt. (Do it later.)

Did I mention I love the default desktop? I’ll change it of course, but it is a very nice default.

Installed. Everything hardware wise appears to be working.

It says it will take 4.5 hours to move 670G of data. I’m going to the neighbors for a beer and a doob.

                  Files all copied.

Quake 3 Arena: ioquake3 ran perfectly from the new home. Played a couple of levels. Perfect.

Unreal Tournament GOTY: The people at oldunreal.com have their shit together. For the first time ever, it just freaking works. Only tested the X64 version, but that is all I use.

Trilium Notes: Had to do some updates to my server as well, but I am typing this from within TN running happily on antix and synced with my server running on an mxlinux laptop.

PaleMoon: From the repository. Extensions installed, bookmarks imported.

lighttpd: Been using it for so long from source that I didn’t know until now that it was in the repo. Still have some basic configuration to do, but its working and visible from my phone.

CodeTyphon Studio. Forgot about the glibc issues with 7.80. Removed and reinstalled 7.70, works compiling several CodeOcean examples, and a couple of my own smaller things.

There are still a thousand little things to do of course, but everyone has finally allowed me to have the linux system I want.

Thank you all very much. You may notice that this isn’t the latest and best hardware.

                  Now it’s time to play.

I’ve been using yt-dlp for downloading Instagram videos for some time now, with good results (most of the time). All I needed to do was type
                    ‘yt-dlp
into the terminal window, and press Enter.

But, this past week, something changed and now I can’t download anything at all from Instagram. The error messages tell me that the program can’t “extract the uploader id”, and can’t “extract video url”.

The program’s output tells me to report this at http://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp. It also tells me to make sure I’m using the latest version of yt-dlp.

The current version of yt-dlp at Github is v. “yt-dlp (2022.07.18-1)”.
The version available via the antix repo is “yt-dlp 2021.12.27-1~mx19+1”.

Using the stock 2021.12.27-1~mx19+1 file, the output was as follows:

Enabling the Debian sid repo, I found “yt-dlp 2022.05.18-1”.
I also downloaded all the Recommends files for that file, but it failed to work.

The output from v. 2022.05.18-1 was:

Note, that after it didn’t work, I disabled the Debian SID repos again.
Also note that the version from Debian SID is not up to date, being 2 months older than the version from Github.
                    ————————

I should also mention, that the inability to download happened yesterday on my other laptop running antiX-21 also. So, the problem isn’t limited to antiX-19.4.

I’ve hit a wall, in my attempts to fix this problem with yt-dlp – which is why I’m posting this here.

Github requires that I run an up to date copy of yt-dlp as prerequisite to filing an error report. Obviously, I can’t do that… What can be done to overcome this proble?

I did use Antix21 for a while, but (as discussed in previous posts), for unexplained reasons it cannot boot on my present hardware. And I really tried my best to fix it, but to no avail. So I had to revert to a working Antix17 system that I had (luckily) still on my hard drives. But now that the Antix17 repo has been retired, it’s either Antix19 or something completely different.

I found some log files produced during the unsuccessful full-upgrade.

I did a fresh install of Antix19.5 and I wanted to switch to the testing repos. I *think* I did it as recommended in previous posts on this topic: commented out all previous active (stable) repos, and uncommented two lines in debian.list and antix.list mentioning the testing repos. Then

                          sudo apt-get update
                          sudo apt-get full-upgrade

However, this breaks the system completely. The upgrade command ends with dependency errors, among others with libcrypt.so (if I remember it rightly) and libc64. If I try another sudo command I get the question if my account is locked. As it stands, I cannot even logout or shut down the system, and after rebooting I can’t login.

So what is the correct procedure for switching to ‘testing’?

When I try to update my system I get an error.
Today I did it from smxi and it shows error 100.
It seems to be looking at the Release repository and can’t find it.
                              How can I solve this?

The more eagle-eyed among you may note that the subtle wrapping issues prior to current pinxi are now fully resolved! Long values wrap, but now the logical line continues without breaking after that wrap happens. That was one of 4 wrapping issues that were all recently resolved.
