      I’m back on my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop today, which means of course that I stop by and update packages in my antiX 21 runit configuration.

        Tried with Links2, CLI, it’s something in the content of my data, but trying to guess which thing tripped it isn’t really practical.

        This is how that’s done [do one block at a time until you find the key word that is tripping it].

        Ok, this is a really really stupid filter. The thing that is tripping it is “data + :”. Usually the stupid filter rule is harder to find and more arcane, but in this case, it’s a stupid string filter, to filter data + : on a technical forum, really on any forum, is just typically inept, and why I never use these premade filters. But that’s the key word, it’s s simple string match, nothing difficult or hard to figure out. Yes, I’m stubborn, lol. This is why I donj’t use those types of premade things, there is never any telling just how incompetent the people are who make it.

        Last time I hit one of these filter things was an apache security module that had bad default regular expressions, but that was a subtle regex error that was simply too ‘greedy’, and needed to be tightened. That’s actually fairly easy to make a mistake on, this one isn’t, it’s a normal word, with no valid context for removing it by a block. Now you know.

        Also, the filter is so badly made that by simply repeating over and over until I found the bad rule, I was able to remove it. A good filter would not show an event had occurred, it would just not post my post, without any explanation, and it most certainly would not let me sculpt my post until it passed the filter. Exactly what I’d expect from junk running on allegedly 4 million sites. And it would have blocked me after the 3rd or 5th try, but it let me go on endlessly. Very low quality. Bad code, bad logic. Exactly what I expect from WordPress related projects.

        All sudo inxi -mxxx would trip this I believe if your ram has the width data available..

          Today, on antiX, using our “Information” tool, I clicked on the “full information” button, which provides “View System Information”, a.k.a. inxi -zv8.
          Here’s what it’s giving me today:

            Dear Developers,

            I installed antiX 21 Full on a Sandisk 3.2 usb stick on my old 2008 Asus laptop with 2 GB ram.

            I removed the line vm.dirty_bytes by putting the # sign in front of it.
            #vm.dirty_bytes = 20000000

            Now, Google Chrome also works very well for downloading in antiX 21. Look at my screenshot. I have a nice straight line for my 125 mbps download.

            I’m going to tell you a secret.
            I installed several Linux distributions and checked why other distributions worked well with Google Chrome download. Every time, the dirty_bytes was 0.
            I don’t understand all these functions but it has a nasty influence on the speed of antiX.
            As I have no answer from the developers, I stop testing.

            I’m happy to have found the cause of the slowness of Google Chrome on my 2 computers.

            I’m also glad I’m back to antiX because the Debian distribution free or not free is very difficult to use. You always have to get out command lines and it doesn’t even always work. I understand the work that is done by the developers to help ordinary users.

            Best regards,

                Attached file shows the terminal window that appeared while installing virtualbox. I was stuck with it; didn’t move at all, had to close it manually. After that, virtualbox still uninstalled.

                I wonder if it has anything to do with the installed brave browser.

                  Dear Developers,

                  I found that the antiX 19 Full version on my old Asus laptop from 2008 also had a problem after the updates for the fr_BE version.
                  Everything was slow, even moving through the menus with the arrow pad.
                  Google Chrome which always worked well with antiX 19 Full was slow and the download became very bad for the antiX fr_BE version.
                  I asked for a full info to check if there was a change in my settings.
                  I found that I had lost the settings for swappiness (by default = 60) and cache_pressure (by default = 100 or 60, sorry, I don’t remember).
                  So I modified the /etc/sysctl.conf file
                  I added these two lines at the end of the file (in root mode);
                  vm.swappiness = 10
                  vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 50

                  On an old copy of sysctl.confOldBackup, there was a third line which I also tested;
                  vm.dirty_bytes = 20000000
                  I discovered that this line has a very bad impact on Google Chrome. The download is really bad in Google Chrome.
                  You have to delete this line or put it as a comment by adding the # sign in front of the line like this;
                  #vm.dirty_bytes = 20000000

                  This could also be the explanation for the bad speedtest (especially for the download) for antiX 21. I don’t have antiX 21 installed anymore to check.

                  So, there was an update that modified my “sysctl.conf” file and Google Chrome works fine now on the antiX 19 Full version.

                  Look at my screenshot with Google Chrome for my old laptop with a 2GB ram. My contract with my internet provider is download 125 mbps and upload 6,5 mbps.
                  It’s beautiful isn’t it?

                  Best regards,
                  Wallon

                    Post again output of inxi -r
                    Your antix.list should look something like this:

                    deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/bullseye bullseye main nonfree nosystemd

                    In a terminal

                    sudo apt update – Post output
                    sudo apt dist-upgrade – Post output before saying Yes.

                    Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

                    antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

                      I decided to reinstall antiX on my hard drive, but here are some things you may want to know:

                      My antiX live USB has persistence and has brave browser installed. The reinstalled antiX on my hard drive also has brave browser. I assume this is normal?

                      So here is the result of inxi -r

                      $ inxi -r

                        Like anticapitalista said ,there’s no /etc/apt/sources.list on antiX

                          Thanks for the info on manually changing the file. Quite helpful.

                          This part though:

                          “To test if the repo manager works, you can:
                          0) Open repo manager
                          1) Open one of the files before (attempted) change and note/remember some of the addresses and close the file.
                          In Terminal, you can use e.g. ‘less /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list’ (exit via pressing ‘q’).
                          ‘less’ is a text file viewer.
                          2) Set the change in the terminal.
                          3) Re-open the same file.”

                          My original post is about repo manager not working. None of the radio buttons work. I can only close it w app killer.

                          No need to test it….it isn’t working.

                            Hi,

                            when you (attempt to) change the repositories, this affects files located in ‘/etc/apt/sources.list.d/’.
                            Roughly speaking, each file contains lists of web addresses.
                            You may edit them manually by starting your preferred text editor with elevated privileges, e.g. ‘sudo <editor> <filename>’.

                            It is advisable to make a backup first. This can be done as follows: open terminal and paste the below two commands:
                            cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d/; for f in *.list; do sudo cp "$f" "$f.backup"; done
                            (change directory to where the repositories are placed; then copy all files to new files that have a suffix ‘.backup’).

                            BTW, once you enter the password for ‘sudo’, there is a 15 minute interval when you do not have to reenter it.

                            To test if the repo manager works, you can:
                            0) Open repo manager
                            1) Open one of the files before (attempted) change and note/remember some of the addresses and close the file.
                            In Terminal, you can use e.g. ‘less /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list’ (exit via pressing ‘q’).
                            ‘less’ is a text file viewer.
                            2) Set the change in the terminal.
                            3) Re-open the same file.

                            To get more help, please post the output of ‘inxi -Fxz’.
                            Also, it is desirable to check the installation ISO against corruption (via verifying check-sum on the downloaded file and the one posted at the download web-page agree).

                                Ok, that FIXED the issue w/fluidsynth (THANKS, Anti)! I think I’ve got this correct now?!: However, several of your other *0nosystemd1 packages (ie. links2, cups, etc.) are not upgradable due to the common pbm. of libssl3 (>= 3.0.0) is not (yet?) present!

                                  I’m totally OK with discussing inxi here; I started this thread, so from my perspective, it’s a personal journal that I’ll allow a lot of general purpose stuff, as long as it doesn’t overwhelm my own purpose for this topic. The reality is that the smxi and inxi tools are the primary vehicles I use to journal and document whatever I’m doing, so in this author’s opinion, they are not only ON TOPIC, they are assisting my journal history, which I tie back to how I use antiX in relationship to a few other distributions; I’m delighted in the way this is going!

                                  On that point, now that I have at least one of my system updated with a current tool, I can use our GUI tool and it provides a lot of up-to-date information:
