Note that pinxi is rolling out signficantly enhanced USB reporting. Just finalized the layout, was debating it for a bit.

Now -A, -E, -D, -N, -G USB devices will show a USB data report with -xx, and one more bit with -a.

-J is similarly enhanced, with -Jxx triggering the extra USB data, and -Ja triggering the full, as usual.

          this is not bad:

          Network
            ...
Device-3: Apple Ethernet Adapter [A1277] driver: asix type: USB rev: 2.0
              speed: 12 Mb/s lanes: 1 bus-ID: 1-14.3:42 chip-ID: 05ac:1402
          Bluetooth:
            Device-1: Broadcom BCM20702A0 Bluetooth 4.0 driver: btusb v: 0.8 type: USB
              rev: 2.0 speed: 12 Mb/s lanes: 1 bus-ID: 1-14.1:41 chip-ID: 0a5c:21e8
            ...
          Drives:
            ...
ID-5: /dev/sde vendor: SanDisk model: Ultra size: 116.53 GiB type: USB
              rev: 3.0 spd: 5 Gb/s lanes: 1 serial: 4C530001280328104205

For Devices, type: USB shows in the same spot that pcie: data would appear for PCIe devices, which makes sense if you read up on USB 3.2/4, which work very much the same way as PCIe, with lanes, up/down channels, and very high speeds, etc.

To have the data consistently placed per item required for devices, moving type: USB to after the driver, and for drives, moving it after the size: info, which makes it a little harder to see in the output, but I could not think of any better way to do it without repeating the USB item in the line, which was odd too.

-a adds USB mode:, but to explain that would make your brains explode, then I’d have to try to explain that to your loved ones, and it would just get difficult. Suffice it to say that the USB consortium has not done a wonderful job of creating these designations, and, worse, if you read the specs and docs enough, what they did actually starts to make sense, which is when I for one know I’ve been doing this way too much, and too long…

I moved over to antiX 23 Beta 1 so we have a relative comparison between antiX 22 and antiX 23; I’m pretty sure they are minimal; I have nearly identical software applications installed and they feel similar in use.

For what it’s worth, occasionally I have inexplicable instances where I can’t use or select the text widget in a Web browser and it even seems to freeze – when I am using MX Linux 21.3, but this has never happened during the entire antiX 21 – 23 lifecycle. It’s sporadic and it’s not a constant thing with MX Linux either, but I’ve experienced it a few times, NEVER here.

Too bad I’ve not been able to isolate or determine the root cause; I’d like to see it fixed if I could help in any way.

As for us, all is very well!

I’m here today with antiX 22, after running Debian Sid (surprisingly no package changes), EndeavourOS, and MX Linux – which I currently have set up to control my boot loader because it is stable AND I use it as such – very little experimenting.

Of course antiX is stable too, but both the release version and the Beta 1 version are systems where I experiment a lot. Most of the time the experiments are safe – but not always, and that’s why I’ve chosen another system to host the boot loader. However, I do actually set up a boot loader on most of my systems; I just don’t write all of them to the MBR (at least not on this hardware; I HAVE done that on other systems and it actually works; it still allows me to have a default boot loader or press the boot function key at startup to navigate and select another boot loader. While these are not the kind of things most users should even consider, if you happen to be a wild experimenter with enough experience to reinstall and/or reconfigure when you introduce a disaster, and you have appropriate measures in place to backup and recover your work, then my bias is to experiment and learn; that’s how I figured a lot of things – I deliberately went past the normal boundaries to determine the extent of what’s possible and what’s not possible, so I found out that boot loaders can be numerous; I’ve also used GRUB, refind, syslinux and other loaders on the same hardware and these will also work, though it’s possible to obliterate data if you are not appropriately cautious – I’ve gone wild with that in the past too!

Anyway, this current setup is reasonably peaceful and it interoperates well with the other systems on the same hardware.

This is the current information for the current release on my HP-14 laptop:

                hi anticapitalista,
Yes Pipewire seems to be working fine, after I installed these packages.

I don’t have working bluetooth hardware on this system…but the packages didn’t interfere with playing thru my headset.

                thanks for reply.

KISS is usually a good selling point/argument. If everything hardware works even better.

Depends on end user view point however. KISS is not eye candy and not for everyone.

                          Hello everyone,

Firstly I would like to thank you for your replay, you taking your time to help means a lot!

                          Second:

                          Solved:

I’m excited to share that I’ve managed to resolve my WiFi connectivity issue on antiX 22. I am not quite sure what the exact problem is but I figure that my wireless network has a separate password for the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. My other laptop and phone are succesfully connected to the 5GHz band with a different password than the one I was trying to use on my antiX 22 system. After entering the correct password for the 2.4GHz band with my antiX laptop, I was able to connect using the default network manager in antiX 22.

Again i never had this problem before and i still don’t understand it,but i am happily connected atm.

Regarding the Bluetooth issue I mentioned earlier, I discovered that I need a Logi Bolt USB receiver for my wireless keyboard Logitech MX Keys to function properly on Linux AntiX 22. I plan to purchase the USB receiver tomorrow, which should resolve the Bluetooth problem.

                          Unsolved:

As for the blocked drivers that I approved in the Control Center, I’m still unsure how to revert those settings to their defaults. If anyone has any advice on how to do this, I would appreciate your input.

Once again, thank you all for your help and support during my troubleshooting process. Your guidance was invaluable.

                          Best regards,

Title: Need help with WiFi connectivity issue on antiX 22

                            Message:

                            Hello everyone,

I’m having trouble connecting to my WiFi network on antiX 22. Every time I try to connect, I get an error message that says “Agent request Failed: Theagen request failed before a reply was returned.” When I dismiss this message, I see another error that says “Connman Error: Conman returned the following error: invalid-key. Would you like to retry?”

I’m certain that I’m entering the correct password for my network, I’m able to connect to my phone’s hotspot without any issues. I made sure all the drivers are up to date, such as system.

I’m also concerned about some changes I made in the Control Center under Maintenance > NetworkAssistant > Linux Drivers. I allowed all the blocked listed drivers/files, but I’m not sure if this was the right thing to do, or if it could cause any problems.

PS: If anyone was able to connect a Logitech Keys Mini (bluetooth keyboard) please let me know.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So what led me here? I have installed on old D600 Latitudes before disposing (Antix 17 I think). But the real reason for moving away from all the other distributions stems from this enlightening web page: https://sysdfree.wordpress.com/2023/03/02/363/
It wasn’t my first choice as I wanted to explore systems that were not only free of systemd but also Pulse Audio, the inventor of both, surprise, surprise is now employed by Microsoft (who are also now getting their foot in the BSD door by offering OpenBSD on their Azure marketplace!). I have tried Venom Linux to no avail when it comes to installing the DE’s other than the default OpenBox it comes with. I thoroughly enjoyed playing with GhostBSD, which I also enjoyed but could not get the Canon TS-8151 to print (something I still need to sort out in Antix, but hopefully the Canon drivers will sort this out. Have tried Cups having already installed Gutenprint, but getting the same issue as I had with GhostBSD – the printer makes an indication it is going to make the test print, gets to 49% in CUPS web page then dies (screenshot attached). Just got rid of pulse and bluez as no bluetooth on this desktop! Thanks for a great experience so far. Enjoyed installing SoftMaker Office 2021 .deb file by just dragging to the terminal following your advice page on installing applications not available in Antix. Great thread.
I should add in respect of the printer, CUPS reports that the user is ‘withheld’ – does this indicate I am not a member of the ‘print group’? I made sure I was in GhostBSD but still had the same issue.

Just installed the Canon Linux driver and all working and all good! Yay!
