Hi all. I’m trying to get a minimal system up and running.
Ive got a Dell Wyse 5060 and I’ve fitted it with a RTL8822BE m.2 wifi/bluetooth card.
It’s only got an 8gb ssd, so space is limited, so that’s why I’m here trying to get AntiX up and running on it.I can’t get the wifi card firmware installed. I can see it in the Terminal with the lspci command, but Connman can’t.
I’m absolutely new to Linux, so if possible could you run me through what I need to do like I’m 5 please? So far, I’ve run myself around in circles across the internet following the advice given to other people that have had the same problem as me, but I keep hitting a wall when errors occur and I can’t work around them.
The last attempt was to follow a guide that ran me through installing rtlwifi-next wifi firmware.
git clone https://github.com/mr-fitzie/rtlwifi-next
cd rtlwifi-next
sudo make installmake -C /lib/modules/4.9.0-326-antix.1-amd64-smp/build M=/home/admin/rtlwifi-next modules

make: *** [Makefile:100: all] Error 2As you can see, it threw up a lot of errors and it seems to have given up on the install.
I don’t know if I need to clean up and uninstall what it’s attempted, or if someone knows how to repair the script, or if I’m even barking up the wrong tree altogether? Thanks

Yes, when I was enlarging and adding apps to the grid menu I found some that also probably belong on Control Centre tabs instead of the grid menu.
Recent files and App killer are also missing from the pic I posted above. I don’t remember seeing Bluetooth, either.
I agree it should be obvious and easy to disable or reenable FT10, but most people won’t know what FT10 is if they see it on a menu, so it needs to be worded clearly.

Good stuff. Now that I’m looking at the image I see why it is a “shop bluetooth speaker on wheels.”
Already updated my antiX setup and listened to some music. Just updated my siduction system as I’m going through the updates.
Gotta say, this one is “Sid’ or ‘unstable’ in name only; rarely see anything malfunctioning on this system, and if it’s “off”, by the time I get to it a fix is in the next update or it’s working. Good, fast distribution, one of the best ways to experience Sid.As far as antiX goes, my Bullseye instance, which I primarily use with runit, has been and continues to work very well.

Was on the shop IBM wireless desktop earlier. Putting up shop lights which was my Christmas present.
On my chromebook now while my other chromebook needs over 2 hours to make a new backup online.
At least that is what it told me.Still gotta play with my shop bluetooth speaker on wheels. My other Christmas present.

I ended up successfully installing MX-21.2.1_386 Fluxbox on this iMac, with GRUB parameters “nomodeset nosplash”. I don’t think it’s using the Radeon graphics card(?) but it works OK. At least it’s a GUI desktop and not a command line only!
I am still curious why MX Linux (both Xfce and Fluxbox variants) gave me a proper GUI desktop with “nomodeset” added to GRUB, while antiX (likely the better choice, given 1 GB of RAM) gave me a good amount of trouble no matter what parameters I set (see above). Maybe a kernel version difference?

antiX 22 runit dwm unofficial beta 7 on a Asus UX330UAK which was my daily driver.
Upgraded from antiX 5.10 kernl to a Liquorix 6.1 Kernel to resolve an issue with its Intel Bluetooth chipset. Originally, my intent was to bump the kernel to 5.15.x which is being purported to fix the issue but the Liquorix install script installed 6.1. What I get for not reading the script more closely. /shrug. I will do it manually next time.

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problemsDecember 16, 2022 at 7:34 pm #95775In reply to: Updated antiX-sid iso files available
Memberolsztyn
With the above methodology I have at this point arrived at antiX SID Base that I will be further developing into a fully usable, semi-stable instance, for testing.
At this point it is furnished with kernel 6.0 but both previous kernels are installed as well.Methodology outlined previously appears to work. My antiX runit SID ‘Base’ is being further developed into SID ‘Full’ as we speak. However it must be maintained cautiously to keep it ‘stable’.
Just to report my observations on my experience with antiX 22 runit SID ‘Base’ and beyond:
– All software is running their latest version as in SID or Debian Unstable, except I did not replace any antiX specific modules with Debian ones, even if later version, maintaining therefore antiX as should be. Any upgrade adventure must not be across the board, such as dist-upgrade, but must be selective, adhering to the previously defined rules. Any indiscriminate dist-upgrade is certain to wreak havoc in antiX SID, such as removal of runit components or installation of libelogind0 and doomed to failure.
– It is very noticeable how many components have been modified by anticapitalista (I attribute this to him for simplicity). This looks to me it must be an immense project to maintain antiX as systemd and elogind free as it must involve lots of work… Thank you anticapitalista!
However this also is a potential for growing concern how long such effort can be continued going forward at this pace. Particularly that some day anticapitalista might not be in his twenties anymore and might grow frustrated with this never ending effort…
– Having said that antiX 22 runit SID ‘Base+’ appears to work very nicely at this point for day-to-day use I noticed one minor issue that I am trying to resolve. Namely after installation of additional services, such as CUPS, such services do not seem to start automatically upon boot but need to be added in Runit-Services with each session, if needed. I am probably missing something to make them start automatically. CUPS is not included in Base but I have been developing Base further…
– So far all WM, customizations, such as for IceWM and JWM ported to SID with no issue, so bottom panels and key bindings work nicely the same way as in the antiX 22 ‘production’.
– Although I have started working on Pipewire implementation, following accomplishments of @stevesr0 and previously @Xecure, I am just a beginner and the entire Pipewire architecture still remains a project in itself.
Here I must mention that I am no longer installing Pulseaudio stuff in this SID antiX. I was about to remove Pulseaudio from my antiX 22 Full Stable, but I read that even complete removal leaves some garbage behind, so I need to understand how to do it cleanly. So far Alsa alone seems to work fine for me and mere support for Bluetooth is not worth. In summary:
The new SID Base+ version of antiX is about to become my new baseline of antiX for day-to-day operation. Just must be careful not to upgrade indiscriminately…Update:
The CUPS service not starting automatically on boot has been resolved. No issues remain at this point.- This reply was modified 4 months, 3 weeks ago by olsztyn.

Well. I was under the impression those with phones that don’t mount with menu in stock antiX.
Were to test out these scripts. Or am I wrong thinking this? Hence my duh statement.
I felt pretty dumb breaking things last time. Not panicky. More of a roll eyes am I a dummy or what?

How about spitting out a inxi report after install is done so any mac user can see what the hardware is using with your cheat codes.
On my live antiX USB, I ran:

But on reboot after install, I’m kicked in to a CLI (no GUI desktop).
I edited to GRUB parameters to match my live USB stick parameters I used (“nosplash failsafe disable=lxF”), but no change.I consider 1 Gb of RAM as the bare mininum to use the modern web in antiX- you’ll have to be very careful with RAM usage
Yeah, despite all this work, this machine is very slow — almost unusable. I’m considering using ShredOS to just shred it and landfill it, especially if I can’t get antiX actually installed on the hard drive… But this was a fun project. And if this thread can help others rescue their old Mac(s), all the better!

Thanks
