I’ve had on and off problems with various Bluetooth features too, but it’s not limited to just antiX; I have mixed results elsewhere too. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and I’ve not had a lot of success isolating a consisent, reproducible reason, especially since SOMETIMES it works!

If you ARE having success with one distribution, I’d suggest using that distribution, but if you ARE interested in helping out, if you can come up with a reproducible set of scenarios which always fail AND decent logs, proving precisely what happens, it may be possible to file defect reports with the upstream source. I’m really not positive it’s an antiX issue, though it could be the combination of binaries and libraries that we offer that do not function well with the utilities. Anyway, some definitive diagnostics, sent and followed up with the right people might help -I would have done this a long time ago, but the failure to get consistent, reproducible failing scenarios prevented me from sending in a useful defect report.

I think I’ve found an issue with Bluetooth in antiX 21

A situation came up where I would need to transfer a file from my tablet to a laptop or cell phone away from any other kind of support. Bluetooth seemed to be ideal for this, and I wanted to assure that I understood the Bluetooth file transfer process by performing the operation between my Samsung Android Tab 10.1 and a laptop with antiX 21 installed.

I tried several times to transfer a small (9MB) .mp4 file from the tablet to the laptop. The tablet and laptop were able to pair OK, but the file transfer attempt kept failing with the following error message at the tablet:

        Connection failed!
        Unable to start Service Discovery

After failing several times to transfer a file from the tablet to the laptop, I decided to try transferring a file from the laptop to the tablet. That attempt also failed with the following error message at the laptop:

        Error occured
name org.bluez.obex was not provided by any .service files

After concluding that I may not be doing something wrong, I tried a couple of other distros (antiX 19 and MX Linux 21) in live sessions, both of which were able to transfer files using Bluetooth OK.

In the previously mentioned “situation”, I was able to transfer the .mp4 file from my tablet to another person’s cell phone without any problem. I guess nobody else has a need to use antiX 21 for Bluetooth file transfer, but things should work, so I thought it worth putting on the table.

Here’s what my laptop looks like:

I’ve compiled some of the programs that by default only use pulse to use the alsa backend instead (quite the achievment for a novice such as myself 😉

Great accomplishment… I am just curious what programs needed to be recompliled to use Alsa instead of Pulseaudio and whether you were able to route Bluetooth stream through Alsa directly, not through Pulseaudio –> Alsa…
            Thanks and Regards…

Does Debian recommend dist-upgrading from backports? No it doesn’t.

Anyhow, apt dist-upgrade -t buster-backports did not break anything.

apt -f install was needed due to error with firmware-realtek

Also connman-bluetooth-firmware-antix needed removing (a backported package caused a conflict).

Added: Actually dist-upgrading with -t buster-backports will result in firefox-esr not opening.

              So don’t do it!

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

I am actually ALSO guilty of doing ALL of the things I said cause trouble.

The difference is that I try to make one change at a time to keep the permutations reasonable, and and do it on a test system first so I can reload and try again till everything works.

I did try Slackware at one point. I won’t say anything against it. I liked the “recipe” concept. I liked SlackoPup, Salix and Slackel better than Slackware. They were good. But I like antiX better than any of them.

I gave up on apulse too, LOL. I did try. I wish I could get a Bluetooth headset working with antiX. I would bet it will eventually work, but for now, allow for the fact that it takes time and effort to make things work, and instead of lambasting them, we should treat the people trying to provide those improvements with courtesy and respect for the selfless effort they put in, even if it is probably fun for them making things work 🙂

                  Hi there,

I just tried to install Antix 21 on an old Acer Travelmate 4000 laptop.
This is a 32 bit laptop with Centrino M processor.

I had MX running before, but guessed that Antix would be better suited for this machine.

I started Antix from a USB stick and I’m running live so to speak. I choose all default options.
I tried to boot with forcepae option, because experience has learned that this processor apparently misses that flag.

                  Sofar, Antix works extremely s-l-u-g-g-i-s-h

Although Conky does not display much processor activity everything goes in slow motion.

Typing : half of the characters are missing (I’m a 2 finger typist…)
Touchpad : cursor slowly drag along,

The information from inxi -zv8 comes in slowmotion in the terminal, block by block of 6 lines or so.

                  What can this be?

                  Any help highly appreciated.

I’m a Linux user for a couple of years. I know a thing or two from cmd line use, but I’m a newbie on Antix.

                  Below output from inxi

And one more thing. It can be ruled out that the bluetooth is switched off in the bios or that there is a hardware defect, yes?
Edit: Just seen it’s base. Base only provides one kernel, so you have to install another one for trying.

inxi -bluetooth outputs something, but not sure how to proceed with this information, dmesg shows empty output.

Frankly I think some of the Bluetooth tools or the libraries they use have defects.

On some distributions they work fine and others are temperamental.

I got tired of fooling around with it and had difficulty isolating the source of the problems so if someone knows definitively what the typical problems are, I’d still be interested, but meanwhile it’s been working on at least one system so I use that when I need it quickly.

                            Hello,

Maybe someone could help me to identify and fix the issue I’m having here,
For some reason bluetooth (bluesz) service does not start, as a result (I assume), Bluetooth doesn’t work.
(not sure how to check the logs for this)

Have you already tried the rm /user/lib/udev/hid2hci
instead of removing you could rename. There is a long history of the error being related to udev
                              and bluetooth.

Long thread over at MX might be helpful

I used AntiX-19 for 3 months, booting in 4~5 seconds.

After a fresh installation of AntiX-21 (full version), using the “5.10.57-antix.1-amd64-smp” kernel, all my boots take quite long time : after the message “Waiting for /dev to be fully populated…”, my computer does not show anything else during 1 min 20 sec, and then finally boot.

I tried to delete the boot parameter “quiet”. What can be found around the message :

Using make-file style concurrent boot in runlevel S.

The only boot errors (from “dmesg”) are :

I’ve just installed antiX-21_x64-full Grup Yorum 31 October 2021. I’ve installed deadbeef using the package manager, but it won’t run. When I try from the command line, I get “starting deadbeef 1.8.8” and that’s all. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it from the command line, but that didn’t work either.
When I tried to install deadbeef-gtk3 I got a “broken pipe” error:

                                  $ sudo apt install deadbeef-gtk3

This computer is a real dinosaur, but I did get it to run using Debian 10 (Bunsenlabs Lithium).

Can somebody please help? Details below… thanks!
