At the beginning of the thread you posted below switch on, no hard, maybe the switch contacts are corroded so you get malfunction, common issue.
Please do not use wd40, it will ruin the swtch. Contact spray which really works is acidic and needs a follow up with a fitting neutralising
lubricant partner spray. It removes the plating on contacts very quickly so must work fast or you get an non recoverable dead switch.

      UPDATE – RFKILL list results:

      Physical switch OFF:
phy0: Soft Block NO, Hard Block YES
phy1: Soft Block NO, Hard Block NO
      (No Bluetooth line)

Physical switch ON: # All listed softblock
phy0: Soft Block YES, Hard Block NO
phy1: Soft Block YES, Hard Block NO
Bluetooth: Soft Block YES, Hard Block NO

Your comment on cheap internal cards made me take a look in ebay, decent cards are crazy price in comparison to some months ago.
The USB dongles and PCI cards stable, for now. We are getting raging inflation in EU, all essentials, food, energy, clothes
prices up very fast. Look at company profits you see why. Btards…

        Hi Moddit and Male,

        1. The card connections certainly could be the issue. If I break down and open the box, I will check that <g>. The hard drive and battery are readily available, the wlan/BT card not so much (at least for me). Curiousity will eventually force me to open it, if I don’t find a magic software answer.

        2. The machine HAS a hardware switch – otherwise it is unusable <g>.

        3. The one software thing that the linux wireless site suggests for this card is to disable concurrent use of the bluetooth and wlan radios. I have tried without success so far. The wireless site (and several others) recommend placing “options bt_coex_active=0” in /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf. I created that file and it didn’t do anything obvious. Reading further, I learned that the current state of the parameters for different modules could be found in /sys/module/iwlwifi/parameters/bt_coex_active. However, I don’t have such a file. A file /sys/module/iwlegacy/bt_coex_active exists. This file consists of a single character “Y”.
So, I created a file /etc/modprobe.d/iwlegacy.conf and placed the options bt_coex_active=0 in that file. Rebooting, I saw several items booting which stated ignore this line in this file (libkmod/libkmod-config.c:712 kmod_config_parse: ignoring bad line starting with ‘options’).

There is a /sys/module/iwl4965/ directory which doesn’t have a bt_coex_active file. I created an /etc/modprobe.d/iwl4965.conf file but this was also ignored on the next boot.

I accidentally tried to create a file in /sys/module/ as sudo and was denied permission! (I suspect it is the extra attributes that can lock files and aren’t visible with ls -asl, but I have to stop for today.)

So, I would love to know how to make the system block concurrent operation of BT and WLAN on this card…

        Thanks for comments.

            Short update.

I have identified the hardware and the firmware, following the suggestions of Xecure and rokytnji. In dmesg, on one occasion, I noted the comment “kernel bug at drivers/net/wireless/intel/iwlegacy/common.c:2350!”. This caused me to look up kernel bug reports involving iwlwifi and there have been a number of them.

Following hints others have tried to get their wlan/bluetooth combo cards working, I tried to prevent concurrent bluetooth and wlan use by creating an /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf file with the line “options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0, swcrypto=1 11n_disable=8” and and a file /etc/modprobe.d/99-local.conf with the single line “options iwlwifi enable_ini=0”.

Of note the iwlwifi supporters note that firmware for devices that require iwldvm (which I think this card does) is NOT supported. Unfortunately, nothing has worked in terms of shutting off the continual messages.

I was able to get ceni on a few occasions to recognize wireless networks, but never connect. I think what happens is the continual stream of enabling and disabling of the firmware and the stream of opcode 00 x 0000 errors simply block functioning. Ultimately, I generally have to shutdown the power to bring the computer down, whenever I enable the card.

I tried using the original Windows XP hard drive that was installed with the machine and was able to get various wireless networks recognized, but in that OS, the maximum security is WPA and I am using WPA2 on my wireless access point. I haven’t found a way to check if the card is misbehaving in the same way as it does in linux, but I didn’t have any loss of control (except perhaps for intermittent sounds for no reason (that I eventually muted) and was able to shutdown normally.

So, I guess I will put this aside for awhile, hoping that a new version of firmware or other kernel modules results in a restoration of function. In the meantime, I can use ethernet and a usb wireless card.

I am posting in the unlikely case that this might be useful to someone else.

(I thought about opening the laptop up to see if the connections were problematic, but the one time I did that it was a VERY involved process and this promises to be the same. And my efforts to fix the internal card are mainly to learn something, which to some slight degree <g> I think I have.)

Installed apt-notifier using the Package Installer and uncommented “apt-notifier &” line in ~/.desktop-session/startup.

                    ~/.desktop-session/current.log indicates:

Which desktop are you using? If it is the default rox-icewm, in the
menu > settings > preferences > TaskBar > TaskBarShowApmAuto should be selected
After you have done this setting you have to go again to
                      menu > settings > preferences
and click on the “Save changes” button, also you have to restart icewm to let the changes take effect.

                      For bluetooth did you try
menu > applications > settings > bluetooth manager

If you want to use bluetooth for audio you have to install pulseaudio
Best to do this with the package installer from control-centre

If your bluetooth device is not recognized at all you should give us more information about your hardware.
Post the output from terminal of
                      inxi -zv8

Edit: There’s also the possibility to let the conky show the battery status.
                      control-centre > Surface > System Monitor (conky)
Scroll down to the the last two lines. They are responsible for battery status.
Remove the # in front of one of the two lines and save the file when closing.
You have to test which one of the two works for you or you prefer.

Hey guys, I installed AntiX on a Dell Venue 8 Pro. Everything but the Bluetooth and the battery life percentage works.

What’s the best way to search for drivers?
Is there a .deb file for a battery/charging percentage package that people use for laptops or tablets?

                        Thanks!

The zim helpnotes system had 2 flavors.

Skidoo’s version automatically monitors what application is active and changes to that application’s notes automatically in it’s window to match. The idea is for it to be instantaneous, so once started its intended to stay running.

My version is simpler, and only runs when a hotkey is pressed, and it brings up the helpnotes for the application you have active when you press the key, or creates a blank one for you to enter your notes if nothing is found. Nothing runs in background, but once running it runs until you close the window.

I like the idea of being able to set the defaults to FT10 by application or not, and being able to restore the original settings. If that festure is included, care needs to be taken to make sure it doesn’t overlay those original settings if changed again.

I agree on adding normal folders.

On recycle bin I’m used to having a link to it, and there was an option to empty it, I think.

Maybe terminal apps like mc and roxterm should be ignored? Normal people generally don’t use them much.

Roxterm – turn off shortcut keys and change copy/paste to ctrl+c ctrl+v (non-standard for Linux, means ctrl+c doesn’t work to cancel a program running in that terminal)

Let me know if there are things I can help with…

Ps Do you think puldeaudio should be included by default? My bluetooth wireless headset wont work without it.

Been a while, but have a new install of antiX21. Wanted to look at some log files so favorite apps antix->Applications->System->Rox Filer as root.
Would not open any files, just blank. So, terminal->su->rox, rox-filer would open any file.

I just learned this week that a new version of AntiX was released. I installed the Antix-21 64-bit Runit version with a 5.10 kernel on my main machine, in parallel with my previous Antix-17.4 environment. I was very impressed, in that (almost) everything I use worked right out of the box. I never managed to get AntiX-19 to work with a 5.10 kernel, which I need to support my relatively new hardware, but this time I was lucky. I was particularly happy to learn that SpaceFM still ships with AntiX, be it in a new incarnation. I would hate to switch to another filemanager after all these years, so thank you, Skidoo!

                              Some small problems I encountered:

                              (1) The new login screen doesn’t let you go back to the ‘username’ field after you press enter. That would be nice for fixing the occasional typing error. It doesn’t react to mouse clicks, but maybe this is normal. If everything else is fine, it could use a little esthetic cleaning up. These gargantuan fonts, yech. Again, there may be a reason for that (users with very high resolution screens?). It also mentions the <F1>-key to change session type twice in two different fonts (with and without serifs!). Surely once is enough.

                              (2) Connman. Worked just fine on the live USB, and I could connect to my network more or less easily. But after installing to the harddisk it messed up the boot process. After the message ‘udev: waiting for being fully populated’ (or something like that) my screen went black and the computer seemed to hang up completely. Enough to scare away a first time user I guess. Luckily I thought about switching to the <F1> console. There I saw an almost endless repeat of the message ‘No protocol specified’ (or something like that). I presumed it was Connman trying to connect to the wifi. After (many!) minutes, if finally gave up, and I could complete the login process. Switching to Ceni for network management solved that problem.

                              (3) Package manager. This is a known problem, apparently. LaTeX full didn’t install. I used Synaptic instead. After updating I *could* install LaTeX with the package manager, but only after first removing all latex packages I had already added with Synaptic. The interplay between Synaptic and the Package Manager is still somewhat mysterious to me.

                              (4) Synaptic is absent from the fluxbox menu. Sure, I can start it from the Control Centre, but I’m used to find it under the ‘System’ menu. I *thought* I knew how fluxbox decides which apps it put in the menu (I thought it was decided by the ‘Categories’ entry in the .desktop file), but apparently I’m wrong. So can I get Synaptic back in the menu? And how?

                              (5) Conky. I use fluxbox as window manager, with a different wallpaper for each desktop. The method I use to switch wallpapers calls for Conky-std in stead of Conky-legacy, which is installed by default. But Conky 1.11 complains about syntax errors in the .conkyrc configuration file. I solved this by installing an older Conky-std 1.10 from my Antix-17 environment. But I would prefer to use the standard version from the repos, if possible.

                              (6) Fluxbox-minimal session. When choosing a fluxbox-minimal session, fluxbox refuses to use the ‘startup’ configuration file. It makes a new one on its own (and thus makes me loose some customisations I made), and renames the old one to ‘startup.disabled’. Using a normal ‘Fluxbox’ session works fine, so apparently there is nothing wrong with the ‘startup’ file. I tested if Antix-17 has the same problem. To my surprise it refused to start a fluxbox-minimal session! (I forgot the precise error message – ‘Unable to handle startup request’ or something like that), but I *could* switch to ‘fluxbox-minimal’ desktop, after first starting a normal ‘fluxbox’ session.

antiX-21 ships with elogind and libelogind0 on the iso.
For probably most users, this is just fine and it enables users to install various desktop-environments as they please without issue.

Users can easily replace elogind for consolekit or seatd and remove libelogind0.
                                Here’s how on antiX-21-full.

                                1. Temporarily, add dev to the antix.list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d

deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/bullseye bullseye main nonfree nosystemd dev NO LONGER NECESSARY TO DO THIS STEP

                                2. sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

Do not blindly press Enter. Check that nothing important will be removed.

                                3. sudo apt install seatd

                                4. Now we can remove elogind. Check nothing important gets removed. This will also install libpolkit-gobject-consolekit-1-0

                                sudo apt purge *elogind*

                                5. Check that all is working especially printing, scanning (assuming it all worked before making the changes above).
Also check mounting usb devices, bluetooth etc

Note: You should be able to install xfce4 and lxde without libelogind0
You will not be able to do install MATE, KDE/plasma, Gnome (shudder) without libelogind0 getting installed.
Many apps in Debian are packaged (IMO wrongly) with libsystemd0/libelogind0 as a hard dependency so installing apps may also bring libelogind0 back.
I’m not going to rebuild all of Debian’s packages, only a select few.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Regarding the wallon Post, my android phone is as or more powerful than my computer,
Kirin 810 CPU 6 GB Ram 256 GB fixed memory, extendable, dual sim, wifi bluetooth.

Device is Honor 9X Pro, cost me 23o Euro. Fantastic Phone, as 3 to 4 days between charges
and best of all Google Free. Most of my software is from F Droid. NetGuard from Git brings
                                  ad blocking.

The open source version of wire Messenger, video not perfect. not yet but good enough.
That is from git-hub via wire.com. Will soon also be on FDroid.

With this class of device a keyboard, mouse and monitor, could make a computer obsolete.

I can use bluetooth keyboard, would prefer a dock, driving a FHD screen would be no issue,
near same as it has already.

What is very badly needed is legislation to force easily repairable devices, spare parts for
anyone, for minimum 5 years, spare battery for 8 would be good too.
Require open API by law, and force firms to allow unlocking the bootloader. We pay for the devices,
we should be able to controll them.

Fines should not be in the laughable order as at present. 25% of estimated yearly profits for first
offence be it against privacy or damaging buyer interests. Second offense 75% and for a third sales and
network ban plus all assets consfiscated within legislation area.
That would even convince Zuckerberg to comply.

Not the wish of agencys, remember the parent company of goog and its founders…And EU does not want to be left out,
wants to scan ALL private messages for Kid Porn. Good idea says granny poot, but porn sites are still actively
encouraging fathers and sons to rape sisters, step sisters and their friends, force maids etc assf*#ck brothers.
                                  All with impunuity in EU.
