I have been using the alpha in persistence mode for a while now. I can check snapshot, I will check later in the week a frugal install, Wifi and bluetooth have been going well so far.
I will try booting with different languages and installing on a VM with different languages.Snapshot
Just finished creating an ISO snapshot from a antix-bullseye-alpha1 on live USB (with persistence) with all updates installed without keeping the user configuration (resulted in a 1.1GB ISO file, so the same size).
Right now I am testing if the snapshot boots properly. But:
Is it normal that the Boot menu (UEFI boot) has:
Welcome to ISTRO(SCII_CODE_NAME!
as its title? I was hoping for at least “antiX snapshot (date)” as tittle. Is this normal? (snapshot tool was up to date, version 0.4.01, everything was up to date). As reported before, Wifi doesn’t work out of the box on first boot of the snapshot (I was hoping things would be different with the new connman package you built). Even though cmst pops up, and enables wifi, WAP cannot be scanned. I need to close cmst and restart the connman service and relaunch cmst (or use antix-wifi-switch). This may be related to my hardware, so maybe it is not reproducible. After first boot, wifi works properly on the next consecutive boots.
BTW, (I don’t usually use the ISO Snapshot tools, I normally keep using a persistence USB and clone it, but not even that anymore). did the Cancel button ever turn to display “Exit” at the end of the snapshot generation process. The confirmation pop-up does appear, but maybe I am remembering wrong and I also saw the Cancel button change to Exit (to indicate that it has ended). Anyway, no error here.
I will keep testing the snapshot on live USB for a day or two and then return to the alpha and proceed with a frugal install on VM and real hardware.
Any crashes
No crashes so far. I will test booting on a few other devices (when I can get my hands on them), but so far it boots on the same devices as 19 did.

Woo hoo! I found the “magic” that got MX Linux 19.3 to work once again with Bluetooth Soundcore Life Q10 headphones!
Link to the solution: https://askubuntu.com/questions/801404/bluetooth-connection-failed-blueman-bluez-errors-dbusfailederror-protocol-no
SPECIFIC details that got it going on MX Linux:
“What did work for me was this: (as pointed above by Sebastian Widz)
$ sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio
$ rm -rf ~/.config/pulse && sudo killall pulseaudio
$ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio
$ pulseaudio –start
The above to ensure pulse is working first.
Then, this one, which is a bit weird that doesn’t come by default with pulseaudio itself:$ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth
$ pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover
A bit redundant I know, but these were the exact steps that worked for me 10 minutes ago.
But OK, at least it works now :)”- This reply was modified 2 years, 3 months ago by Brian Masinick. Reason: added -rf to the remove command to force removal of files, directories as needed

I want to get the MX Linux 19.3 Xfce desktop environment working again with Bluetooth headphones and once that works I will be able to make the others work too, assuming I find what has been wrong!
The main reason I want to do this is that something changed and I want to know what it was and hopefully what caused it so that I can easily fix it if it happens again.

Good news / Bad news!
On my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop I have found additional distributions that DO not only activate Bluetooth correctly, they actually work with Bluetooth headphones and specifically with my Soundcore Life Q10 Bluetooth headphones!
The list of distros that work include
– MX Linux 19.3 KDE Edition
– Endeavor OS
– Peppermint Linux
– openSUSEThe fact that these work is further proof that the headphones work with Linux and Bluetooth. They also work with Pixel 3 and Chromebook models such as the Acer Chromebook 715.
Something got messed up on my other MX Linux, Debian and my antiX distros that I have NOT been able to isolate, even after doing a ‘cp -rf /lib/firmware’ from a ‘workimg’ /lib/firmware to more than one of the failing versions.
The fact that one of the MX Linux versions works is evidence that the technology works.
Next step is cleaning everything else.
Since one of the MX Linux instances works I may try comparing the two MX Linux Bluetooth setups and resolve differences, try it again and if I can get both working I will then replicate the working solution to all of the other ones.I’ll get this YET!
My skills are a bit rusty but I still have the means to figure it out and when I get it 100% right I will publish my findings.

Brian MasinickJanuary 20, 2021 at 12:00 pm #50192Topic: Free (and mostly OpenSource) Android apps
in forum Other DistrosMemberPPC
Since most people have smartphones, and, at least in Europe, most of those devices are running Android, here’s my list, that allows me to me a tiny bit freer from Google- I also use some extra privacy settings, have a switch to turn off sensors/camera/mic, turned off bluetooth scanning, limited wifi search and turned off Playstore :
*Browser – Bromite ( it’s open source, ad free, available from https://github.com/bromite/bromite/releases ), Firefox with privacy addons (it’s open source, ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*Calendar – etar (it’s open source, ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*Camera – Open camera (it’s open source, ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*Ebook reader- Aireader ( completely ad free, provides TTS functionality out-of-the-box https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neverland.alreader&hl=en_US&gl=US), FBreader ( available in Google Playstore, has an instalable tts plug-in), Bookreader (open source fork of FBReader, available from https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.axet.bookreader/ ); Cool Reader (https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.coolreader/ ) [yeah, I read a lot…. 🙂 ]
*E-mail – K-9 Mail (it’s open source, ad free, available from https://github.com/k9mail/k-9/releases )
*File Manager – X-plore (not open source but extremely feature rich, despite the free version having some features that are locked), “Material Files” (from Hai Zhang) – not as feature rich as the free version of X-plore, but great- it lacks integration with cloud drives, if that’s important for you, but allows sharing files via ftp server (it’s open source, ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*Gallery- There’s really no need for third party galleries, but, if you really want a nice alternative: Focus Go ( ad free, on Google Playstore)
*Office Suite – Collabora Office (it’s android’s LibreOffice port, largely compatible with MS Office formats, like .docx, etc, ad free, available from Google Playstore – ideal for viewing all kinds of documents, not so much for editing, at least not at the current time, unless you are in a pinch), Microsoft Office apps (free version, available from Google Playstore, require a free Microsoft account to activate, but can be used off-line, great for both viewing AND editing documents)
*Podcasts – AntennaPod (it’s open source, ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*Pdf reader – Adobe Reader (has a free version on Google Playstore – if it detects an Internet Connection, it makes you log on…), Xodo pdf reader (light, also allows to fill pdf forms, add/remove/reorder pages, create pdf files from scratch/pictures/files, has cloud connectivity, ad free, available on Google Playstore), Gaaiho pdf reader (very light pdf reader with annotation capabilities – has text re-flow but does not seem to always work-, ad free, on Google Playstore)
*Media player – VLC (it’s open source, ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*News/Rss Reader- Feedr – even allows you to download news and then you can read them off-line (ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*Scanner application – you can use your android device as a high quality and extremely fast scanner, that generates pdf files – there are many great apps that do this, “Mobile Doc Scanner” is, for me, the best one, but it’s not free. Strangly enough the best Free, and ad free scanner, for me, is Microsoft’s “Office Lens” (both apps are available from Google Playstore)
*Notes – Joplin (it’s open source, ad free, available from Google Playstore)
*Youtube – Newpipe (it’s open source, ad free, available fromhttps://newpipe.net/#download) -it’s fast, ad free and allows you to download videos/audio/substitles, what else do you need?EXTRA:
*NetGuard – a free application that acts as a firewall – filtering, per application. access to Wi-fi and/or Mobile Internet – a great application that allows using applications that have intrusive adds (I know adds are the away developers make money, but, sometimes they overkill on adds- for those cases, I black list them on NetGuard, all the rest… hey, devs deserve to be paid for their work, right? Give them a break, pay by watching a reasonable ammount of Publicity)
*GPS navigation – use alternative apps, available in your country (in Portugal we have “Meo drive”, a free, ad-supported, GPS map that works off line)
*Application Store- f-droid.org
*Light Casual games – Patience Revisited (available from Google Playstore)TIP: Use “web apps” instead of installing applications: for example- I have a Bromite icon to access 9gag, I do not need to install the 9gag app to view their content, same for MS Outlook, some news apps, etc…
You can use opensource alternative applications apps here:

@Brian, for my desktop running antiX testing-repository I have the “Plugable USB Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy Micro Adapter” and it works so far very good.
From lsusb
Bus 003 Device 006: ID 0a5c:21e8 Broadcom Corp. BCM20702A0 Bluetooth 4.0Perfect! Amazon.com charges $13.95 for the device; WalMart has it online for $15.95 and Newegg has it for $20.95. Looks like Amazon has one of the best deals unless I can find another reliable reseller. One very good thing about Amazon.com is that they have been sending Amazon Prime trucks to our community within 48 hours or less for many purchases, at least if suppliers have the inventory available.

Good ideas Skidoo. On your advice I took a look at both sites. While I have purchased several items at Newegg in the past, they seem to have somewhat higher prices on Bluetooth adapters than Amazon for some reason.
Since I have never purchased a Bluetooth USB adapter I am taking my time, and I am not determined to get one; depending on the research and recommendations, I may opt out. If the prices for legitimate units with useful performance are over $20, I probably will not get anything. I don’t need a fancy device, but one reason I am considering one is that the Bluetooth adapter in my Dell Inspiron laptop works with Endeavor OS and openSUSE but fails to work properly with MX Linux, antiX and Debian. If I use a plug my headset works; if I use USB or Bluetooth USB it does not work with the same headset. Since I have alternatives I may not do anything other than investigate possible options and what they would cost. No need for anyone to “research” themselves unless they have their own personal interest.

Has anyone tried a USB Bluetooth dongle with antiX or any other Linux distribution?
I was considering the possibility of getting one of these to try them out.
Here is a link containing some recommendations. I am interested in those who have actually used these.

By the way I listened to programs this past weekend too. I think that I was using my phone. The Acer Chromebook 715 handles Bluetooth well and it is faster than my Dell Inspiron laptop, which is about 5 years old, but the Dell is fast enough and has enough memory and available disk and CPU resources.
The fact that I found another working distribution helps.
I’m not home right now to test so I am researching over the Internet for others who have similar issues.
I will share the results of my findings.
