Having played with DRM Bluetooth external speakers myself.

        Commands that help me learn

        lsusb -v

        cat /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf

I had to install pulse-audio from antix package installer for my external bluetooth speaker to work properly.

        dmesg | grep firmware

Plus other dmesg grep commands with name of unit in question will show errors if any also.

Forgot to mention. Running xmms or whatever like aplay man aplay from command line may mention why nothing is heard also.

I spent a couple of days visiting my son and tired connecting my T430 to wifi it would connect ok, but on reboot the connection would be lost my fault entirely for not reading your post. As per #41036.

          All good here.

          $rfkill list
          0: tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: Bluetooth
          	Soft blocked: no
          	Hard blocked: no
          1: phy0: Wireless LAN
          	Soft blocked: no
          	Hard blocked: no
          2: hci0: Bluetooth
          	Soft blocked: no
          	Hard blocked: no

          But not here.

          #------------------------------------------------------------------------------
          # /etc/network/interfaces
          #
          # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
          # Used by ceni but not by connman
          #------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          auto lo
          iface lo inet loopback

          allow-hotplug eth0 <<< now removed
          iface eth0 inet dhcp <<<

          allow-hotplug wlan0 <<<
          iface wlan0 inet dhcp <<<
          	wpa-psk eCHO0210 <<<
          	wpa-ssid OPTUS_####

In the future will the troubles with connman interfering with ceni be fixed? As I now see connman in action I have no problem with it, and it will help new users connect to wifi easier if they are not used to using something like ceni.

          Thanks for your time.

After setting up ethernet with ceni, connman will become “dumb” and cannot connect. If your preference is ceni, you can remove connman and reassign resolv.conf:

            1. Remove connman and cmst

sudo apt-get remove --purge connman cmst connman-bluetooth-firmware-antix

            2. Delete the resolv.conf sym link in /etc/
            3. Create a new symlink in etc like this (in a terminal)

            sudo ln -s /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf

            4. Try ceni again

This should fix your problem. I am almost sure you can ping 8.8.8.8 but not google.com when using ceni. If that is so, that means that it cannot resolv the DNS properly and need resolv.conf to be “fixed”.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I was a bit insistant about antiX version because the procedure is different for each one.

I know my following content would be off-topic, but this thread has already been branching off to a different direction anyway… :->

Since the phone is newer, it is faster than the computers for reading Email and some articles.

It’s still somewhat easier to compose notes from the computer simply because I can type faster

Phone and tablet screens are too small for anything but video. I can’t read on them. I like the large screens of a computer/laptop. And I can increase the text size easily with Ctrl++ in a browser. And typing is painful for me on any touch interface, I like my keyboard. I’d rather browse the web and type on forums on an old computer than a new phone or tablet.

Phone and tablet do not need to be inconvenient for typing. With a bluetooth keyboard, the typing experience is comparable to computer/laptop.

And, technically speaking, phone and tablet do not necessarily have smaller screen. Even when excluding rare product Samsung Galaxy View which has a 18″ screen, there are still a not-so-rare product line of media-consuming Android tablets which tend to have HDMI output, so you could plug in a normal size monitor. (There are even many more Android phone and tablet supporting Chromecast mirroring, but that solution has noticeable latency and unstable connection, so I don’t count them in.)

But then, of course, if you are already sitting at home with a monitor available to plug in, you might as well just use your computer/laptop. So, I guess what I really try to say is, it is still possible to use a tablet’s 10″ screen plus a bluetooth keyboard on-the-go to get some real job done. I did that in my car.

It feels awesome that one can still be productive even with limited hardware resources. 🙂

Just thought I’d mention. What I thought was a conman problem on my 32 bit atom netbook.
                Was a rfkill problem.

It was mentioned to me by another member that maybe conman was inducing rfkill soft block while running a live run on that netbook.
Now. Since full install to hard drive on that netbook. rfkill and conman is not a issue anymore.

Conman connects on wlan0 on that install. No special thing done by me but rfkill unblock all before connection with conman then going ahead with install procedure.

You may use rfkill to list all the wireless interfaces and their status:

                sudo rfkill list all

You should see something like this:
0: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: phy0: Wireless LAN
                Soft blocked: no
                Hard blocked: no

If soft blocked, you can unblock it with

sudo rfkill unblock (number of device)

                i.e sudo rfkill unblock 1
                or unblock all devices:

                sudo rfkill unblock all

Usually, once unblocked stays like that unless booting again to windows (don’t know why, just my experience).
If rfkill reports a hard block this means a physical switch or something really out of spec in the BIOS. If you really want to use Linux there, you will need to extract the wifi module and put a small piece of tape covering the pin 20. Note that with this mod the card will always be on regardless of any physical switch position (this saved my bacon with a Sony Vaio with a bad wifi on-off switch)
                Hope this helps.
                Good luck!

I’m trying to make a live usb using antiX 19.2-runit 386, how ever when go to run the program I get an error message error encountered in the live usb creation process. The live usb maker version is 2.41.17.

Have you tried connman-bluetooth-firmware-antix since it provides both rtl8723bs_config-OBDA8723.bin and rtl8723bs_fw.bin?

Ok, now I feel dumb. Sorry for not checking first.

I cannot get connman or blueman-applet to detect my bluetooth device (no option to “switch it on”, and dmesg | grep -i bluetooth shows no errors (and bluetoothctl shows no bluetooth device either). I will try again next time I reinstall (hopefully antiX 20), as how I have everything set up works as I want it to. From a live USB antiX 19.2 core + fluxbox + networkmanager + blueman-applet I get bluetooth working perfectly, but I will have to test it out with connman-bluetooth-firmware-antix next.

Thanks a lot for pointing it out. I will test things soon with a live 19.2 full release to see if I can get bluetooth to work with connman.

Tested on two different devices and all seems to work properly as before (realtek wifi and bluetooth). No negative experiences compared to before the upgrade.

After many months, I finally got my bluetooth to work on my cheap chinese tablet. But the firmware I needed wasn’t included in the firmware-realtek package.
Could you ask the MX team if they can include rtl8723bs_config-OBDA8723.bin and rtl8723bs_fw.bin in the next firmware-realtek package version? I just tested them and they work (finally I have bluetooth on my cherrytrail tablet!).

                            Thanks for your work.

I found this for Raspberry pi, but it should also work on PC:
                              https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/tethering/72767/5

Here, it works with my Pi 3B as expected. I configured it via SSH access and user osmc, password osmc:
                              How my /etc/connman.conf looks like:

                              osmc@osmc-pi3:~$ cat /etc/connman.conf

Haven’t tried the GUI method but as far as I know there are no more issues with that.

                              Also

Googling much returns procedures for accomplishing such goal using Networkmanager, but nothing seem to pop up as procedures using Connman.

Don’t be afraid of NetworkManager. Just because it is not the default in antiX doesn’t mean you cannot use it or it doesn’t work. On my fluxbox-KDE antiX live system I use networkmanager for consistency (and to avoid problems of having 2 Network Managers “fighting” every time I switch session). I have disabled “password encryption” or whatever name it has, and it runs as well and fast as connman. If you ever want to try it, download/install the necessary packages before uninstalling connman, fix resolv.conf if needed, and use it.

Let us know whatever you try. I am sure more people will be interested in using your solution.

                              – If two WiFi cards are present, can a WiFi repeater be feasible to set up so WiFi signal can reach more remote areas of the house

I never got this to work on any computer, be it with windows or otherwise. I gave up and installed OpenWRT on an old router and I have it set as a repeater. This way I can place it anywhere I want.
Don’t ask me how I did this, because it has been over 5 years since I set it up. I don’t remember how I did it, and I cannot even get to the website I bookmarked (no longer exists). So many bookmarks that are forever lost…

It’s been a few years now since I’ve been able to run both wired and wireless, but as I recall the last time I had both, a properly configured system will choose wired if available, then wireless. I’m not sure if that is because at the time my fastest option was the wired option, or if that is the natural order of precedence, but I’ll state, based on the most recent time I had BOTH is that if a wired service is available and you have that interface enabled, it will be selected.

Some modern interfaces now allow you to turn on or off one of 2-3 different options; I think that’s what’s available now with Connman, but since we’ve had Connman available I’ve only had a wifi connection; Connman can configure Ethernet, wifi, or Bluetooth if I remember correctly.

Anyone with superior knowledge is welcome to weigh in on this; please cite any specific information and/or literature if possible to provide us with the proper means of “improving our education”. Thanks!
