I try both in my system …
with antix 32 start from 85 M RAM
with antix 64 start from 500 M RAM
            my system is 64
i prefer use antix 32 because is faster but is this better solution or must use antix 64 ?
            give me your opinion

I cleaned cruft with autoclean and autoremove. But I know most text files ending in .old will litter my folders. I started this dist upgrade at 6.9 gig on my ssd being used.

New install is still a option on this chromebook. Just showing my steps taken when running into upgrade snafus.
Chromebook drive is so small. I figured I’d show how close one can shave this.

My Broadcom dkms uninstall did not effect my eth0 broadcom chip. Posting this on hardline.

This is what I did to upgrade antiX-17.4.1 pristine (ie nothing added nor removed) to antiX-19.
Make sure all your valuable data is backed up.
You may want to use iso-snapshot to create an iso of your present install and test the newly created snapshot does boot and install … just in case things go wrong.

This guide will not produce an identical antiX-19, but I assume most people want to upgrade from ‘stretch – old stable’ to ‘buster – new stable’ and are less concerned about the looks, themes etc.

If you try this and it breaks your install, don’t blame me!

Use a root terminal and not synaptic and do READ the output before pressing Enter.

                      1. Make sure your antiX-17 version is fully up to date before changing any repos.
Also, do not have any packages set on hold.
                      Only use the official sources.

                      apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

                      2. Change sources to buster so they look something like this

                      antix.list:

                      # Use with Debian Stable/buster repositories. Set as default for antiX-19.
deb http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/buster buster main nonfree nosystemd
                      #http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/buster buster main nonfree nosystemd

                      debian.list:

                      # Debian Stable. Default for antiX-19.
deb http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian/ buster main contrib non-free
                      deb http://security.debian.org/ buster/updates main contrib non-free
                      #deb-src http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian/ buster main contrib non-free

                      debian-stable-updates.list:

                      # Debian Buster Updates
                      deb http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian/ buster-updates main contrib non-free

                      3. Remove libapulse and apulse otherwise you will get errors.

                      apt-get purge libapulse apulse

                      4. Refresh the new buster repos

                      apt-get update

                      5. Install apulse before doing a dist-upgrade

                      apt-get install apulse

                      6. Now dist-upgrade. Make sure you read the output to see if it will remove anything important.

                      apt-get dist-upgrade

                      7. When prompted to accept new version of files or not, choose Y(es).

                      8. Once the dist-upgrade has finished, remove unneeded packages/libs and tidy up Other desktops menu

                      apt-get autoremove

                      apt-get install --reinstall desktop-session-antix

                      9. Reboot – and cross your fingers! (You DID make a backup didn’t you?

                      10. Hopefully, you logged in to your newly upgraded to buster antiX.

NOTE: /etc/antix-version, inxi etc will still show antiX-17. This is deliberate.

                      11. Install apps not included in antiX-17 but are included in antiX-19. You can pick and choose.

                      apt-get install app-select-antix artwork19-antix blueman bluez-obexd breeze-amber-cursor-theme-antix breeze-snow-cursor-theme-antix chroot-rescue cputool entr f2fs-tools firejail-profiles formatusb gnome-bluetooth icewm-icons-numix-square-antix icewm-icons-papirus-antix isomount lxtask newsboat ntpdate numix-gtk-theme numix-square-antix oxy-black-cursor-theme-antix oxy-white-cursor-theme-antix papirus-antix prettypink-themes qpdfview roxterm-common roxterm-gtk2 screenlight-antix sct slim-themes-extras-antix volumeicon-alsa-icons xserver-xorg-input-mouse

                      12. If you get a flashing conky, edit ~/.conkyrc

Add this line (about line 39) own_window_type desktop

                      eg

                      # Create own window instead of using desktop (required in nautilus, pcmanfm and rox desktops)
                      own_window yes
                      own_window_transparent yes
                      own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar
                      own_window_type desktop

                      13. Set your themes, icons etc as you see fit.

                      12. You should really upgrade the kernel. To do so, best to use cli-aptiX in the Menu under Applications – antiX

Remember: If you try this and it breaks your install, don’t blame me!

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

                        AntiX 19 beta 3, Gnome.
The sound is fine, but does not show the sound device in <Setting><Sound>. Also no volume icon in menu. To fix it…

                        sudo apt-get update
                        sudo apt-get remove –purge pulseaudio
                        sudo rm -rf /etc/pulse
                        sudo apt-get install pulseaudio

                        Reinstall removed packages:
                        sudo apt-get install firefox libcanberra-pulse pulseaudio-module-bluetooth

This bug was there since June.

First of all, I found the culprit, the faul, the big issue and yes, it was me.

Someone has to say, Linux kernel it doesn’t bring support by default to laptops or any portable device (at least when it comes from debian build, its seen also on rpm based as far as I saw through net). So, learning about acpi made me feel less newbie. If u just installed linux in a laptop and it didn’t boot, give it a chance with this:

                          https://01.org/linux-acpi/documentation/debug-how-isolate-linux-acpi-issues

It consumes lot of time but once you manage to pull the correct acpi to boot with most of functions (fan, proccessor cores, wireless, bluetooth, graphics, etc.); the issues problem listed onto this topic can dissapear once you add the correct acpi command then be added to the kernel boot parameter.

I run a live system from antix 17 with no issue and installed works even better but laptops seems to work very different and need to be handled with care, with the acpi off on a laptop, its a matter of time till it faint.

Now someone can mark this thread as solved. I can’t boot with the slim manager with the graphic card activated, I’m wondering if I should reinstall all the OS or xserver again, if I put again the nomodeset on the boot parameter it loads the configuration already installed but the graphic driver is not detected. Gonna have to research again but this issue is solved. Thanks all of joinning and giving feedback that appoints me to picking up kernel parameters for boot.

                          This is a signature.

Worked my way up from the bottom since caprea covered the top errors.
                            Bluetooth looks soft blocked also.

Nothing really there for errors that just jump out at me that I can see.
I find it weird also that vesa cannot handle 1024×768 on intel chip either.

So I am lost here. Edit: My bad for not noticing this is antix 19 beta 3 thread. It should have have went over here https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-19-b3-full-and-base-versions-64-and-32-bit-available/

See that code box on the tool bar. I hit that first . Looks like nothing happened. But if you look at the button. It switched from code to /code. I paste my inxi -v8 -z readout before I hit the /code button . That is how I keep track of invisible code tags < My eye sight on a chromebook is questionable >

I ran a live usb from this linux tails and its 64 bits, it did showed up intel pineview M driver and it matched it native resolucion 1024×600; I was minding on backing drivers (dunno how) from there to move them to antiX but the thing is, I’m running a 32bit OS version of antiX 19, maybe that’s the main conflict, I already did an apt full upgrade and dist-upgrade, maybe I am not using the right repositories to get the intel drivers correctly to that kind of laptop/computer.

That was about the screen driver, about the wireless and bluetooth, I had no luck on any distro to start it up, its blocked completely or even say airplane mode, only way to unlock it is using key shotcuts (Fn + F2, and these stuff) but those didn’t work, I’m minding on re-upading bios but the battery doesn’t work anymore and these programs ask a battery to be attached (wich is fine due electrical cuts running here).

So, the network drivers are identified, wired driver works just fine. But intel website has no support for linux drivers, and the website related that it was 01.org or something like that didn’t seems to be alive anymore. So, I’ll keep looking forward.

I would like to know if I’ll be able to use wireless, also the bluetooth cuz I never know. I can’t resize to higher resolution and hd videos rly run slow, I dunno wut else to do but I tried all the comments this far. I ran today a ‘tails’ usb drive distro in this computer, I wasn’t able to start it but pushing the buttons I was able to turn on the bluetooth that way but not the wireless.
When shutting down the computer it doesn’t shutdown the screen, the system halt and stay the whole thing there. If anyone feels free to make a brainstorm, I’d like to read more ideas (I tried already several stuff over net about this gamma point and resolution with no luck); I’ll check time to time and keep going with wut I’m learning.
