If I burn the core iso to a 64gb USB3, how can I:
1. Use persistence for root and home (i was selecting static root and home)
2. from the core command line increase size of persistence so it doesn’t run out of space (i think that might be what is going wrong)
3. from the core command line create and use swap space on the SSD drive
4. update and then upgrade the core sid
4a. how do I save persistence and reboot to test it?
5. from the core command line remaster the usb
Then I will reboot.Would it be wiser to get a simple Xorg working next, then add the rest of the base packages?

BobC, is your creation a snapshot, or is it based on Core plus a few packages and then an iso build?
If 2) I’m guessing you missed one or two things that must be present in a bootable image that is also installable.
I’m rusty myself. The only recent ISO image I built was simply a snapshot and it works very well.

Possibly something didn’t get installed because I didn’t need it on the machine I was using.
PS: you could use my packagecomp run on another antix 22 runit 64 base on that same machine to see what packages are missing or added vs running from the iso on a machine that it will boot on.

Maybe there is a package that needs to be installed that doesn’t exist on the sid core or my installed 22 base runit? If you tell me what package, I can add it before recreating the iso next time.
Looks like something is definitely missing. My first thought was the Intel module that was mentioned by @Christophe that must be installed for Intel video to work but it seems that module is already there if I am not mistaken. Please check though.
I would myself like to know what is actually missing that prevents this antiX ISO to boot on Intel video but I do not so far. It is definitely worth finding out as otherwise your ISO seems very good when it works and it might be a good candidate to become SID Base, if anticapitalista agrees to officially call it as such, after appropriate adjustments and fixes are finalized.

LOL, I didn’t ask for the new feature, but I saw it had been added, and when I turned it on,
I was also was surprised by it, and so i added the big arrows and 2 second delay to give people a clue how it works.I have done some more testing of this antiX SID ISO on a few laptops and my summary is the following:
– It does not complete booting into WM on my Thinkpad X61 laptops (the same issue on all three X61 machines) furnished with Intel video card. Gets into a loop, seems to be looking for a video driver or something. It is flashing the same messages repeatedly so not sure of the wording.
– It bots successfully into IceWM and works fine on Thinkpad T410 laptops, which are furnished with nVidia NVS3100M card. My prior comments on cosmetics were done on these laptops.
– It does not complete booting. looping as above before getting to IceWM on another model of Thinkpad T410, which is furnished with Intel video, does not have nVidia as the one above.
– It fails booting into IceWM on my Thinkpad T520 machines, which are furnished with a dual nVidia NVS4200M/Intel video cards. I think such dual nVidia/Intel video are called Optimus.
– It fails booting into IceWM with the same loop on my Thinkpad X220, which is furnished with just Intel video. With the above testing this antiX SID ISO seems to boot only on machine that has just nVidia card. Other 6 machines that have any Intel card fail to boot into IceWM with what appears a similar loop that seems related to video display.
I do not know if this behavior is common for all machines with Intel but at least my 6 laptops are such, where this SID antiX fails to complete booting to IceWM.

Here are the links to the ISO from last night and the screenshot
https://www.mediafire.com/file/vus8q2x4xkl1rkl/aniX-22-runit-sid_x64-base-bc-20221203_2123.iso/file
https://www.mediafire.com/file/orh6v4mrd4aplv0/aniX-22-runit-sid_x64-base-bc-20221203_2123.iso.md5/fileThe theme has nothing in common with Blue Day other than it has a dark background and a blue menu button, but I’m glad you like it. Blue Day is much like many other themes in that its designed for keyboard use, not mouse. The themes I’ve created are designed for ease of use with a keyboard, mouse or trackpad on a laptop or desktop.
antiX by default uses slimski to login, and skidoo told us at some point that it does not have internationalization built into it. The graphics rather than words were put in so non-english speakers would understand what to enter. If the internationalization and translations were added to the program, that would help.
In addition, that one panel is also being used for screen resolutions from 800×600 to 3840×2160 and from one to many screens. If someone had 2 screens, the login panel would be displayed in the middle, half on one screen and half on the other, and the left half could be on the right and right half on the left, depending on which connector each screen was plugged into. Due to the panel’s lack of flexibility, on the 3840×2160 (4k video) screen, you needed to use a 5x magnifying glass to see the fields, and was too small to read on a 1920×1080 (1080p) screen, also. I can reduce the panel and graphics sizes more, but anyone with 4k video will need to scale it down on the boot screen to 11080p at least to be able to read it, and I’m not sure that would work under grub without modification, which would be used after install. Again, if the program could either handle multiple resolutions or was able to choose a different panel setup based on the primary screen connected, I could reduce it again to a size that would look good on different screen sizes and resolutions. Obviously, reducing it by 25% wasn’t enough to make it pleasing to look at at the screen resolution you are running. If the program can’t be changed, we probably should reduce it again to make it look good from a default virtualbox window or old 1440×900 laptops and not worry about people with 4k screens at all.
I won’t change it again till I hear from anticapitalista, because as I said, I’m running out of web space to host big ISO files.
PS: Did anyone try the edge switching? You can now drag a window to either adjacent workspace by taking it to the top or bottom of your screen and holding it a couple seconds. You can also move to either adjacent workspace the same way. The transparent arrows pop up during the delay so you know you are engaging the edge switching feature., but they don’t come up when dragging a window across, which I figured is not perfect, but acceptable. By doing it up and down, that leaves the ability to get to multiple screens on the sides.

I downloaded and briefly tested the new ISO. Just a few observations:
– IceWM looks nice in terms of theme (Blue day or something). One issue I noticed was that when setting desktop background to No Wallpaper, it resulted in light grey and collor picker did not work for me to change color. This was on my Thinkpad T410, 1440×900.
– The new ISO still failed booting to desktop on Thinkpad X61, apparently to not finding the right Intel driver and displaying messages in a loop.
– The initial boot fonts appear way too big, as I think Brian mentioned previously if I understood. Not further testing done as it is very late in the eveening and I think it is also late for you, so I will try to do more testing tomorrow.
Thanks very much…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

It looks like the problem is with live usb maker, because i burned the same iso again successfully this time to the same flashdrive while booted from an antiX 19.2 partition.
I had to remaster, though, so will need to do the process over after reinstalling and retesting.
IMO, I’ve got the IceWM setup looking real nice. I don’t know who has been maintaining the Fluxbox and JWM WM’s.
PS: I got it tested and the new ISO is uploading now.
The only thing odd about it is the USB boot screen seems to be showing the variable names of the distro name and options rather than the actual values. I’ve been backspacing out the options and typing in quiet then pressing enter, and that’s been working ok. The upload should be done within the next hour.

My test system still runs, but I’m no longer able to create a live usb to boot from. The linuxfs fails md5 test consistently.
Is this the same one you provided the link to ISO in this thread or another one?

I was thinking how a file from torrent can get corrupted so i have checked the file again.
I have manaully re-checked by removing and adding the torrent file again. After the check completed it’s was stucked there at 99.9% x).
Then finally after all the download has been completed and i have finally boot with antiX full edition voila !!!I think that’s explains why i was able to extract the iso image without any errors.
End of story
Thank you.

On the Dell m2400 the only problem i had running it so far was the boot options stuff when i booted from USB. I noticed that many of the 131 updates were firmware, btw.
You don’t have an atheros adapter, do you? See previous message, that firmware package was corrupt, so even if I redo the iso, it wouldn’t be there.

Please look at the packagecomp so you can see that I’m literally figuring out what packages are missing from the one system to the other, and adding all the missing ones in my attempt to duplicate the system, but with the newer sid apps…
Thanks again @BobC…
I downloaded your SID ISO. Thank you for sharing.
Now this gets really interesting:
– This ISO (SID Runit) fails to boot on my both machines I was using for SID (Thinkpad X61) but boots fine on Thinkpad T410. Failure to boot on my X61 machines appears referring to some segmentation fault but the screen flashes quickly due to apparent re-trying so I am not able to notice the exact wording of the message. Looks like my issues were possibly related to this hardware as well…
– The fact it boots fine on Thinkpad T410 machine makes it good for me to work from there. Looks like lots of groundwork you have done to make it a great Base approximation. I will look at your packagecomp later to figure out next steps.I will try to figure out the issues with booting on the older X61 machines, but in the interim:
How did you originally set up this Live SID? Did you start from Core ISO as published by anticapitalista and installed packages to arrive at Base or you upgraded originally to SID by switching repositories from stable to sid? I see that at this time there are 131 packages due to upgrade…In any case thanks much for sharing. This seems good representation of SID base. I will try to identify issues with boot on X61 machines as a separate project. The important thing is that it boots on Thinkpad T410 and I will test Thinkpad T520 and X220 shortly. I could not easily recreate the ISOs I was using on Thinkpad T410 for comparison because I was using traditional installation rather than Live as yours. Live makes it easier to test on multiple machines…

If I have the antiX kernels, the isosnapshot works. If I use the 6.0 liquorix kernels, the isosnapshot produces an isosnapshot file. But after using liveusb maker, the isosnapshot is not bootable.
I had reported it here:
https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/cannot-make-a-bootable-iso-snapshot-after-a-kernel-change/
This is a known issue and will be fixed very soon/

I usually use wget -c < iso url goes here > because my isp can be flaky
Then to be sure I md5sum check things to make sure everything is kosher.
I mention this because of the slimski fail in your screenshot. My way seems to work pretty good because I typing on my antiX 22 Full 64 bit install on my chromebook and the same usb drive worked great on my Intel NUC Desktop.
While I’m jaw jacking. How are you making these bootable usb drives. In xubuntu. I would use belena etcher. belena etcher even burned a chromebook recovery image to usb that boot and re-installed chromeos to a marginal chromebook I have.
