Xecure, at https://gitlab.com/antiX-Linux/antiX-Gfxboot/-/blob/master/Help/antiX/en.html is the html file very similar to the “antiX-gfxboot.html” that is on /usr/share/antiX/Boot_Menu folder. In the cursory check I did, the texts of “antiX-gfxboot.html” are the same as those in the “F1 Help” option.

Which html file is the most recent? Is it the GitHub file or is it the file that is on the antiX 19.4 or antiX 21 beta 2 ISO?

@marcelocripe, the SOURCE file may be “antiX-gfxboot.html”, but that file doesn’t exist in the live /boot/* folders (you can search for it; but I haven’t found it), It is probably compiled into a special binary file that is read by the syslinux/isolinux boot programs. It is not as easy as
if Language=pt_BR; then load antiX-gfxboot_pt_BR.html; fi
because this is not bash scripts. The dev team would need to figure out how to create the logic for this to work first.
This is the line that instructs the gfxboot project to prepare the help file (en.html) for it to be called by whatever other instruction the isolinux/syslinux uses to display it.

The one who created the gfxboot system is probably the best one to make it happen, as the probably know best how it would work, so unless they have some free time, it would take the dev team a lot more time to figure this out.

Se for o arquivo “antiX-gfxboot.html”, podemos trabalhar na tradução diretamente neste arquivo, mas só valerá a pena começar este longo trabalho se o anticapitalista autorizar o início e confirmar que poderá utilizá-lo.
Por que eu digo um longo trabalho?
O html possui regras próprias de acentuação, o que torna o trabalho do tradutor ainda maior, pois se o tradutor não conhece absolutamente nada de html, precisará consultar a coluna “Entity” dos códigos de acentuação da página eletrônica https://www.w3schools.com/charsets/ref_utf_latin1_supplement.asp para UTF-8. Eu consigo ajudar os tradutores que não conhecem html dos idiomas derivados do Latin, mas os outros idiomas eu não tenho conhecimento para ajudar as pessoas que tiverem dúvidas.
O que eu sei, é que esta tradução é tão importante quanto qualquer palavra ou qualquer frase contida no antiX ou nos programas contidos no antiX, pois estamos tratando da comunicação.

Neste arquivo “antiX-gfxboot.html”, eu só possuo uma única dúvida, o que significa “Lean and Mean!”, cada tradutor da internet me dá um resultado diferente e eu ainda não consegui compreender qual é a verdadeira intenção destas duas palavras ou da frase. Eu preciso compreender corretamente para poder adaptar adequadamente para o idioma pt-BR.

Então, anticapitalista, é você que nos diz se devemos começar ou não, se você conseguirá utilizar os arquivo traduzidos diretamente no arquivo html ou não.

I understand your frustration, but I can tell you this isn’t a common case, so we at least need system info. When possible, share with us the terminal output of
inxi -Fxz

If I understand correctly:
A. you installed antiX and customized it to your heart’s content.
B. You have an nVidia graphics card, and installed the nVidia proprietary drivers.
C. You decided to backup your system and created a Snapshot using the provided iso-snapshot tool.
D. (We assume) you created a Personal snapshot (with home files and configuration).
E. You decided (or needed) to restore your system and decided to use the Personal snapshot created previously.
F. You made a live-USB with the Personal-Snapshot and successfully booted live with it.
G. The live snapshot experience was exactly the same as the installed system (graphical interface and all), and everything worked properly (we don’t know if nvidia drivers were loaded at this point, but graphics were OK-ish?).
H. You proceeded to install your personal snapshot and replace the installed system. All seemed to be OK, so you rebooted.
I. When you rebooted after installing from your snapshot, you found that the system didn’t boot to a graphical interface.
J. You login in the terminal but the system still doesn’t start graphically.

The rest is you trying to get the graphics working, but at this point we don’t know if nvidia drivers are loaded or if nouveau drivers are loaded instead.

If you don’t mind, boot the snapshot again and explain if you get a graphical interface on live-USB (normal boot, not failsafe or safe video mode). If not, see what driver is loaded (if it is nvidia or not)

Estou tentando salvar as configurações no pendrive com antiX 19.4, na verdade é a Iso pseudo-antiX 19.4.
Tenho um computador sem UEFI.
Fiz as configurações de persistência na tela inicial com a função F5, com as opções de configuração padrão (persist_all).
Dou o boot e faço uns testes como criar uma pasta ou salvar uma imagem, mas ao reiniciar novamente nenhuma configuração é salva.
Falta fazer alguma coisa?

It’s what I call the “jail” of Windows. I read the entire article, at the beginning of the text I was happy with what I read, but at the end of the text, unfortunately, the backtracking occurred. Senhor Brian eu gostei muito da sua ideia. Por exemplo, se que precisar economizar espaço em disco eu iria manter apenas as pastas que possuem os idiomas en, en_US, en_GB, en_UK, pt, pt_PT e pt_BR, eu não sei se é preciso manter as pastas que possui en@????. Segundo a estimativa no antiX 19.2 full 64 bits que está todo destruído de tanto eu fazer testes, seriam cerca de 357 MB a menos de arquivo da pasta /usr/share/locale. Mas, como o usuário pode vir a se a arrepender por algum motivo no futuro, seria importante ter um meio de devolver tudo no seu devido lugar.
A bem da verdade é, que para os falantes da língua Inglesa pode ser um incomodo receber traduções das quais não precisam ou não querem. Realmente não é fácil agradar a todas as pessoas.

É o que eu chamo da “prisão” do Windows. Eu li toda a matéria, no começo do texto eu fiquei contente com o que eu li, mas no final do texto, infelizmente ocorreu o retrocesso. No mínimo a administração pública teve jogar no lixo todos os computadores antigos para voltar a utilizar o novo sistema operacional “prisional”.

I tried to boot antiX-19.4_386-core.iso in Virtualbox, as I wanted to check something in the live, to compare with the Bento antiX I am working on but I couldn’t get it to continue booting after the message related to populating /dev.

I tried in Bento antiX amd64 (in which I installed Virtualbox) and I tried in Ubuntu (Bento built on 20.04) : the result is the same in both computers.

I enclose a screenshot.

I have checked the md4sum, sha512sum, both are correct.

I can add the Virtualbox last log if needed.

If this created the USB in dd mode (read only), then the problems start there (as you will not be able to save live changes to the 12 GBs USB directly).

If possible, create a folder inside your 2300GBs with whatever name you want and try again from antiX live, after selecting F5-“p-static-root”, write
pdir=NAME
where NAME is the name of the folder you created in the 300GBs HDD. Then connect the 300GBs USB device and hit ENter, and see if it works and created and uses a separate folder for a different machine.

Because you have created the antiX 12 GBs USB device with the LinuxMint (dd mode) tool, you cannot take advantage of antiX’s smart system for saving separate hardware configurations inside the USB device (which will mke it possible to make the USB work on any machine and remember the hardware configuration of each).

If possible (and you are interested in using the advanced antiX live system capabilities), boot the 12GBs antiX USB (only, no persistence) and select the F4 option “toram” to boot the full antiX system (without persistence) to RAM, once it boots, then use the live USB maker inside the live antiX system to “clone” the running live system (no need to search for an ISO) to the 12GBs USB device an overwrite it with a writable antiX live system. After this reboot and it can save state info.

Another possibility is booting the 12GBs system (without toram) and use the live USB maker tool to “clone” it to the 300GBs system. It will remove all info inside the HD but prepare all the antiX goodness, so you can boot directly from it instead of needing the 12GBs antiX system. You will then be able to save the live Boot menu changes, so you don’t need to configure them each time, and it will save state machine information inside, so that it takes full advantage of the portability of the system. Xecure:

1. 15 yrs old 300 GB Seagate external USB HD 2.0 > insert into LinuxMint20 > open Mint GParted > Extr 300GB HD create a primary ext4 partition (for antiX-Persistence) + create a swap partition > eject 300GB HD. (I had bad luck with antix21-b2 live USB stick to operate GParted).

2. LinuxMint20 > download antix21-b2.iso from AntiX website > check iso integrity 256 with GtkHash > clamtk virus scan > burn iso into 12 GB usb2.0 stick using Linux Mint “create USB iso” application > shut off computer.

3. load computer from usb stick > antix loads 1st time from live 12 gb USB stick > select legacy bios option > F5 select “p-static-root option > insert 300GB USB HD > follow screen instructions > select 300 GB USB HD (sdd2) for antiX-Persistence device > assign secure passwords > make some minor noticable changes to screen to differentiate from live boot session (ex change wallpaper, connect to wifi , install some minor apps etc) > shut off machine.

4. Load 12 gb stick , then 300GB USB > F5 p-static-root select > normal boot> Antix finds p-static-root device > machine loads properly (new wallpaper , wi-fi, new minor apps etc ) are all loaded. All further additional new changes (new software installations, updates, upgrades etc) are properly stored in sdd2.

So far so good, when I want to install a new “Persistence” test folder as root, I get ‘error exit status 1’ message.

I thought I may need two different persistence devices for two different machine hardware configuration purposes, I am not sure how Antix works. That’s the only reason.
For Puppy, I have only one universal persistent USB stick which works for every machine.

You are very close to it. I thought about a script displaying only the sticker-image itself, not changing to the complete Background. Indeed, I thought of displaying this sticker in English language only, for the system in these cases is still in English also. But:

This is true, the sticker doesn’t allow to copy the text to online translators (This would require some advanced display techniques, to make it work anyway. To difficult for me.)

You are probably right, @skidoo, this way of presentation has the disadvantage we’d have to create a new image file for each language, which bloats things unnecessarily. My thought while creating this was that a nice form of presentation could help to animate people to step in for it.
And again you are true, the readability of this on low res devices is probably poor (here on my monitor it looked pretty good and was readable without problem.) The busy background is not that problematic, this could have been fixed by applying some advanced image processing in gimp, blurring the area behind the text. But both your other arguments are striking.

So I have modified the original idea a bit.

This is a first testing version. Let me know any suggestions and whether it works also for you, I’ve tested it here already.
And please, a versed English native speaker may fix the texts displayed. Details about where to place files can be found in the readme file of the repo. Suggestions where to put the extended information file(s) if the described folder (home directory) does not fit in concept are always welcome, then the hard coded links in script will have to be modified.

@Xecure: I tried to create this in the antiX-contribs repo on gitlab, but it wouldn’t let me do anything else after creating the project. No file upload, no set up of directories etc. So I had to create it in my repo and you might fork it to this place now if you like.

This is the reason why I would plead to include this in some way into antiX 21 ISO. People using antiX ISO in incomplete/missing languages seeing no or poor translations half in English, half in their own language (in the best case) need urgently to know there is something very easy they can do to change things, when they start antiX the first time, which in many cases will mean booting it from a live CD/DVD/USB.

So, please give some feedback whether we should better follow this path and revise/tweak/polish the script, or dismiss the idea of including it last minute in antiX 21.
