I have seen this happen (very rare), but have no idea why.
/etc/sudoers has probably become corrupted.
Easiest/quickest way to fix is to boot the live iso and copy /etc/sudoers on the live iso to the installed one (via mount directory as root user)

I tried to run the iso via two options.
1. Legacy kernel
2. Modern kernel.
No results, no booting.Newer computers, Intel 7th generation, boot the iso successfully, and antiX 23 alpha works.

I can’t boot the iso file, which has kernel 5.10 in it. I get a green screen. That’s why I’m waiting for a new iso file, which I hope will be with a new kernel.

1. after the iso download have you verified the ckecksum?
I did not! My bad! Remind me how to do that please.
I’ll look for the two “safe-mode” boot options that you suggest. Nothing ventured – nothing gained! Right? đ
If all else fails, I’ll try booting 32-bit antiX-22 Full and see how far I get.
Thanks again for your input.

@dukester
1. after the iso download have you verified the ckecksum?
2. after the boot, when you arrive to the antiX menu with all the choices, you can make 2 tries:
– 1st one: scroll down a couple of rows and (according to my old man memory) you find a menu that sounds like “start with safe video mode”,
– 2nd one: scroll down about four rows and (according to my old man memory) you find a menu that sounds like “start with safe mode”.Would it hurt to try booting a 32-bit antiX-22?
you can try both 32 and 64 bit versions
Iâm wondering if the early versions of the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs were fully 64 bit?
I don’t know the answer. My experience is that antiX 64 works on all very old 64 bit Mac(s)
I’m definitely not an antiX guru, in this forum there are a lot of very gentle gurus that may give you more sophisticated answers đ
Good luck

iso-template-antix (23.02.14) is he newest that should automatically replace the old iso-snapshot-cli-antix package.
If you don’t have iso-template-antix installed, you won’t be able to make bootable snapshotsPhilosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

Today, when I updated and full-upgraded my Sid system, there was an message about an error processing /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-nj6f4O/06-iso-snapshot-23.02.13-amd64.deb.
Since this happened when I was booting the 6.1.10 kernel, I rebooted into the 5.10.142 kernel and again ran the update and full-upgrade. Now there was a message that
The following packages have unmet dependencies: iso-template-antix : Depends: iso-snapshot but it is not installed or iso-snapshot-cli but it is not installedSince IIRC I have used iso-snapshot on this machine and then live-usb-maker to produce an iso, I was puzzled.
It turns out that there are two pairs of iso-snapshot packages:
(1) iso-snapshot and iso-snapshot-cli
(2) iso-snapshot-antix and iso-snapshot-cli-antixAll four of these packages are maintained by anitcapitalista, in addition to iso-template-antix.
I currently have only iso-snapshot-cli-antix (0.4.06) installed. Do I need to install any of the other packages in order to continue making iso-snapshots or what?
Appreciate a referral to a thread discussing this or an explanation.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
thank you for your fast reply.yes, I used antiX-22_386-base.iso.
Upon your suggestion I’ve downloaded the core version and created a boot stick. In vain, as the IBM reacts the same way like with the base version. Black screen with a blinking –
did md5sum check as well. Truly this is quite mysterious, all other lightweight Linux distros at least showed something, even when they did not all expected and hung up while booting from the stick. some gave option to choose language or keyboard settings and the like, but none of them behaved like the antiX distro. And that’s the one I really seem to like.
Is there perhaps another way around?
Thanks

Hi,
Having installed antiX on my quite old ASUS laptop I am really impressed how fast the laptop is working under antX, especially though it has a recognized memory of mere 2 GB on 1 memory bank (the second memory bank does not seem to work, although the RAM module is ok, found that out by swapping the modules around).
Because of the great overwhelming performance (compared to Win10 on the same machine) I now would like to install antiX-22-base.iso onto my even older IBM Thinkpad T30 with 1,8 GHz CPU and a small RAM of 512 MB.
Afrer the USB stick was prepared to boot with the USB Livemaker on the antiX-22 laptop and trying to boot on the IBM machine, I merely get a prompt, nothing else. Cannot enter any commands or whatsoever.
What could I have done wrong? In the near past I’ve tried several lightweight Linux distros on that old IBM, coz I am looking for a distro to install for good. Most of the others had slight hickups e.g. wifi hardware not found etc., but all of them actually booted from the sticks I had created with the LiveUSBmaker from the antiX machine (ASUS).Any help is really appreciated, as I’d need this little IBM machine quite soon (want to take it with me, when I start working as a truck driver again) for those nights where I won’t manage to come home.
Regards

Many thanks, anticapitalista! Great work!
Finally I’ve managed to free up an USB stick for testing the new upcoming antiX 23. What should I say: It works great, mostly everything out of the box. Here the deatils. As expected in an alpha release some minor things require your attention.
Here my findings:1.) File name in checksum file doesn’t match the ISO filename present on server, so it fails:
$ shasum -c antiX-23-runit_x64-full.iso.sha256 shasum: antiX-23-runit_x64-full.iso: No such file or directory antiX-23-runit_x64-full.iso: FAILED open or read shasum: WARNING: 1 listed file could not be read $ cat antiX-23-runit_x64-full.iso.sha256 946cef599ea3eb9984612bb1bf98d12cccf94109e3001a5394c392f958ea3896 antiX-23-runit_x64-full.isoOK, this shows that the filename in the checksum file doesn’t match. After fixing it, the checksum matches:
$ shasum -c antiX-23-runit_x64-full.iso.sha256 antiX-23-alpha1-runit_x64-full.iso: OKCreating the Live USB on antiX 21/22 works flawlessly then:

Here again a tiny glimpse in GUI needs your attention: Even when choosing modern kernel the second antiX boot screen will show

apt list --upgradable
showed lots of updated packages. Erverything went smooth. Then I installed the 6.1.10-antix.1-amd64-smp kernel from the repos, remastered and ran the live-kernel-updater.
Also this kernel runs fine here. Don’t see any issues by now. And it only took 4 seconds to load the kernel!
So I don’t know why the installed system gets stalled as it does. I’ll keep searching, and report back if I can find anything. For curiosity & testing’s sake more than anything (since I personally prefer frugal, anyway).
confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

Anticapitalist, would it be possible to have two or three kernels available in the boot menu?

Anticapitalista, seria possĂvel ter dois ou trĂȘs kernels disponĂveis no menu de incialização?
It’s possible, but I don’t think it is a good idea.
It adds to the iso size and adds extra complexity, especially when running live/fugal and remastering/making snapshotsPhilosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Oh, so it may be that “new kernel” shipped by default in AntiX 22 Full ISO may be not enough and needs newer kernel (though this laptop is like a decade old…)
Now that talking about remastering, let’s say I want to install nvidia proprietary drivers in a live USB. Is the way just installing, then remastering, like with kernel? (They need reboot to properly work…)
If using this remastered live USB in other systems with no nvidia hardware, will proprietary drivers cause problems, or will system just load proper modules and nothing else? Finally, if wanting to preserve an installed package (for example, unifont), do I need to remaster as well, or could root persistence be enough?
Thanks again for your help.

Regarding iso-snapshot and live-usb-maker on this antiX23 a1:
I made an iso snapshot of my system with a 6.1 liquorix kernel and did live usb maker.
On the boot up menu, there were two things that stood out.
1. I saw
%FULL DISTRO NAME% (%RELEASE DATE%)
I suppose those are not known.
2. But the more distressing thing is that in boot options, it showed:
%OPTIONS%
So I pressed entered and booted up, during the boot it showed error in boot options. But I was able to complete the boot. I am typing this message in this live boot.
In sudo dmesg,
I was able to find:
[ 0.000000] Command line: %OPTIONS%
and[ 0.018806] Kernel command line: audit=0 intel_pstate=disable hpet=disable rcupdate.rcu_expedited=1 %OPTIONS% [ 0.018833] audit: disabled (until reboot) [ 0.018873] Unknown kernel command line parameters "%OPTIONS%", will be passed to user space. But it seems like everything is working OK, similar to my installed system without the iso snapshot.
As a comparison, on my antiX21 system with the 6.1 liquorix kernel after iso snapshot and live usb maker, I did not get any of these error messages during boot of the live system of the snapshot. In the boot menu, for options in that system, it had
audit=0 intel_pstate=disable hpet=disable rcupdate.rcu_expedited=1- This reply was modified 3 months ago by calciumsodium. Reason: minor typos
