The error only pops up on live default from ISO (anticapitalista says it should no longer pop up on the next alpha). After changing the wallpaper with wallpaper script, the error no longer pops up, so it was most probably related to what anticapitalista described:

Control Centre has always (since I tested on antiX 17) had the issue just after changing DPI. I assume it is related to gtkdialog.

An small thing I experienced before on UEFI boot but forgot to report about.
On the grub.cfg, defaults are loaded after setting some options, and so the options are overwritten. If defaults.cfg loads first, then the new options in grub.cfg will correctly overwrite the default options (as that is desired.
What I mean is to edit /live/boot-dev/boot/grub/grub.cf changing the order, so it looks like:

General Live Boot Parameters for antiX.

I downloaded the Alpha Testing image today and initially copied it to a Ventoy container of ISO images.

I booted from the Ventoy container and it came up as usual.

I connected to the WiFi using Connman.

I can’t remember if it was the live instance or the subsequently installed instance, but I did have to fiddle with making the WiFi connection functionality work.

I believe that I was successful by going into /etc.rc3.d directory, stopping and starting the Connman routine, and then it worked as expected.

I did not have any other issues once the network started. Both the live and installed systems work fine once network manager is running.

All is well and the system works.

Suggestions:

* I have managed to build debs for very latest roxterm versions.
They are gtk3 and add c.10MB extra RAM usage compared to roxterm-gtk2.
* 64 bit iso to ship with 2 kernels. One 4.9 (or 4.19) and the other a 5 series version.

I think Windows can check the integrity of a file. Open the Command Line (Cant remember the name right now) and, based on a websearch, run:
CertUtil -hashfile <path to file> MD5
I would see if draging and droping the ISO file to the command Line would automatically paste the path (if so, you don’t have to manually write it, just write CertUtil -hashfile, drag and drop the file and end it with MD5).
The result should be:
d09562f2926eae14dc2345166b20c41a
If it is not this exact string of numbers and characters, the file didn’t download properly. If it is, then the file is perfect, and the DVD could be to blame. If you have a spare USB flash drive around, use any Windows based DD program (I think maybe Rufus should work, not sure).

Could anybody else take a bit of time and test to see if the ISO also boots for them (I tested on 1 computer and it worked)?
I will try downloading and installing the specific program to antiX 19. Maybe we can avoid using a live ISO and try to do it on the installed system.

No, no no.
I build a snapshot (fully functional ISO) from a running live antiX 17.4.1 386, where I installed all the tools and firmware you need to perform the PRISM firmware update.

The iso has a size of 710.934.528 bytes, and can boot as a normal antiX 17 iso (the image I posted before: https://ibb.co/SNgpyn3
if from exactly the same ISO I created. I used a dd tool to “burn” it to a USB device and booted it from a USB removable device on my laptop (to make sure it booted properly and contained all the tools I had installed for performing the firmware upgrade).

So, the ISO works (I booted it just now on a VM also), and should boot to the exact menu I showed. See in Windows 10 (on the snapshot-17.4.1-i386-prism-flash.iso, right-click > Properties) you should see that the size in Bytes is: 710.934.528 bytes. If it is less than that, the image probably didn’t download properly.

I don’t understand what you are trying to tell me. The link is for the ISO only. You can burn the ISO with the same program as you did for the original antiX 19.3 iso, or if running in antiX with xfburn (included in antiX 19).

If you are saying something different, sorry, I didn’t get it (English is not my first language and sometimes I don’t get what is written in front of me).

All programs and files are included in the ISO, so you just need to burn it to a DVD, as you did with the original antiX 19.3, boot it and open the instruction file I added to the desktop. If there is something you don’t understand, let me know and I will try to explain as best I can.

Correct. The boot menu will be a bit ugly but I tested it out on my laptop and it boots OK to the default antiX 17 screen. You can boot it from USB or from DVD. If you have any trouble booting it, let me know and I will try to figure it out, but it should work as good as the default antiX 17.4
I also included wicd inside the iso (it takes some time to start, but it should work on the last step of testing the wifi connection).

Any question you have, let me know. I can only hope this firmware works, as those are the only ones I was able to find on the net. If you can get it to install inside the wifi chip, you should be able to use it even if you later have to migrate to a different Linux (or BSD, who knows) distro. The upgrade would be permanent.

I built a very ugly snapshot (no title, no nothing), but I tested it out and it boots for me.
Though I removed fluxbox and jwm, and added wicd, the iso is larger than the original antix 17.4.1 base i386, so it will not fit inside a CD (sorry for that).

There is an instructions file in the desktop and all relevant firmware files are stored inside the firmware folder inside the home folder.

All needed programs to make it work should be included now.

Well done. With this test we have confirmed that the wireless device works for unprotected wireless connection. The only problem is with protected connection. I think there is still hope.

Thanks for the lspci output. It helped me find information on how different drivers worked on PRISM2/PRISM3.
Now I am sure that this device needs firmware flashing.

This device accepts two drivers (orinoco and hostap_pci, which we already know works), but based on some research, the orinoco driver will never work with WPA2 protected networks, so it is not an option for us.

I found a new link for one of the broken links in the Debian wiki: http://junsun.net/linux/intersil-prism/
Unfortunately, the links to firmware files are all broken except for the private firmware collection of the website’s author.
Based on their research, the best firmware for your case is version 1.8.2, as the 1.8.4 seems to have some bugs that lead to lost packets.

I think that we could get to fix and flash the firmware with antiX 17.4.1 iso (live) and then return to your antiX 19 installation (and connecting to your router should work ater the flashing).

I will post the instructions here, and will also try to create an ISO snapshot of antiX 17 with everything ready so you don’t need an internet connection to flash the firmware.

Requirements:
1. hostap-utils package installed (installable on antiX 17).
2. Having a copy of the needed firmwares (can be downloaded from http://junsun.net/linux/intersil-prism/firmware/1.8.2/ )

Installation steps:
1. Open a terminal

2. Navigate to the folder containing the firmware files using the cd command. If it is in the Downloads folder, for example, the command would look like this:
cd "$HOME/Downloads/"

3. Log in as root (password: root)
su

4. Run the next command to confirm that the old firmware is recognized:
hostap_diag wlan0
The output should look (similar to):

Host AP driver diagnostics information for 'wlan0'

NICID: id=0x8013 v1.0.0 (PRISM II (2.5) PCMCIA (SST parallel flash))
PRIID: id=0x15 v1.0.0
STAID: id=0x1f v1.4.2 (station firmware)

5. Test to see if the downloaded firmware is compatible. For the 1.8.2 version, the command should look like:
prism2_srec -v wlan0 PK010101.HEX SF010802.HEX
and the output should tell you that the firmware is compatible (if it doesn’t, we have a problem. If you see any strange output, please let us know. We will try to help based on that).

6. If the above output stated that the firmware was compatible, we will proceed with flashing the device to install the new firmware:
prism2_srec -v -f wlan0 PK010101.HEX SF010802.HEX

7. Wait until the flashing is finished. After it is done, we can check if the correct version was properly flashed:
hostap_diag wlan0
It should say, for the station firmware:
STAID: id=0x1f v1.8.2 (station firmware)

8. before we shutdown the live session and return to your installed system, let’s check that the wifi can now connect to your router from the live session.
Control Centre > Network > WICD (I think this is the programs that shiped with antiX 17). A new icon should appear on the system tray. Click it and try to connect to your router.
If it doesn’t work, not panic, as it may be a problem of the live session. We can power off the live session, remove the CD/USB and boot the installed session to see if wifi works with connman.

If I am not able to build a snapshot for 17.4, or I am taking too long, you can follow the above steps from antiX 17.4 live (you need to have the firmware and packages downloaded to a separate USB to install them on the offline system or you need to connect to the unprotected mobile wireless connection you created and install the package with sudo apt update && sudo apt install hostap-utils)

If possible, marcelocripe, when you have time, could you connect the system where you installed the Legacy ISO, update and upgrade the system and reboot to see if the xorg holding is working? This would be the final test to make sure that this re-spin keeps the changes and that Xorg is really permanently “held back”. It should reboot to a normal functioning system.

So, the instructions would be:
1. Update the system.
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

2. Reboot the computer

3. See if everything keeps working as well as before.

4. Give us the output of
inxi -Gxxx
to be sure that xorg version is still 1.16.4 and everything else is as before (same xorg driver and resolution, etc).

If this works then we are sure that the ISO build for the old systems is “stable” enough.
