The ISO boot “antiX-23-alpha1-runit_x64-full.iso” took place on a USB device prepared with Ventoy, this is just a live boot.
The F1 option is now next to the F2 option in the antiX ISO boot and this is great, before the F1 option was not visible.
Now I want to make some suggestions:
1 – Place the “Unplug Removable Device” icon (original text in English to avoid any misunderstanding) at the far left, as it was always further to the left in previous editions of antiX. Please, don’t answer me so I can use “IceWM Toolbar Icon Manager” to organize it as I’m suggesting.
My suggestion:
prog “Unplug Removable Device” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/devices/drive-removable-media-usb.png unplugdrive.sh
prog “antiX Updater” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/categories/software-sources.png /usr/local/bin/yad-updater
prog “Software Installer” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/apps/packageinstaller.png su-to-root -X -c packageinstaller
prog “File Manager” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/apps/file-manager.png desktop-defaults-run -fm
prog “Web Browser” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/apps/web-browser.png desktop-defaults-run -b
prog “IceWM Toolbar Icon Manager” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/categories/icewm_editor.png /usr/local/bin/icewm-toolbar-icon-manager.sh2 – I thank you for correcting the “pt_BR” identifier in the “/usr/share/antiX/localisation” folder.
3 – The file “refresh-menu.desktop.desktop” continues with the entry like this “Exec=desktop-menu –write-out-global”, by chance it should be with “sudo desktop-menu –write-out-global ” for the menu to work?
4 – Now I’m going to look at the menus and compare with antiX 21/22.
“antiX” submenu: All menus are translated to “pt_BR”, except “locale-antix-user.desktop” and “locale-antix-system.desktop”. Please use the translated .desktop files on GitLab (https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/antix-desktop-files/-/tree/main/.desktop).
“Accessories” submenu: They will only be 100% translated to “pt_BR” when all our translated .desktop files are used by the creators of the respective programs. I’ve already found out that this will be impossible, because many developers don’t care about translations or have refused to use our translations. For example, the creators of Firejail, Celluloid, MPV, DeSmuMe, etc. If any of the programs that are in the antiX full ISO are maintained by the antiX development team and are on this list of menus that need to be translated, please use our translations.
“Development” submenu: Only Geany needs to be translated.
“Graphics” submenu: It remains to be translated to “pt_BR” – “Gtkam Digital Camera Browser”, “Mirage” and “LibreOffice Draw” (the latter is an “impossible mission”).
“Internet” submenu: Still need to be translated to “pt_BR” – “Ceni”, “Claws Mail”, “Dillo”, “Firefox ESR”, “HexChat”, “Links 2”, “Modem Manager GUI”, “Sakis3G” and “Transmission”.
“Games” submenu: Still need to be translated to “pt_BR” – “DOSBox Emulator” and “Mahjongg”.
Submenu “Multimídia”: Need to be translated to “pt_BR” – “Asunder CD Ripper”, “Celluloid” (I already explained the reason above), “SMTube”, “WinFF” (this project is unfortunately abandoned and therefore will never be merged with our translations) and “XMMS”.
“Preferences” submenu: Still need to be translated to “pt_BR” – “Bluetooth Manager”, “Screenlight” and “User Language”. The “blueman-manager.desktop” and “User Language” files are an old version and it is not the file that was used in antiX 22, please compare with our GitLab file or the file used in antiX 22.
“System” submenu: It remains to be translated to “pt_BR” – “Firetools” (I already explained the reason above), “Modem Manager GUI” and “ROXTerm”.5 – I missed having a “trash.desktop”, without it the zzzFM right-click menu won’t have the translations. Trash-related translations could be in the “trash.desktop” file.
6 – On the zzzFM right-click menu, I suggest changing the position of the “Delete (Shitf + Delete)” option to be below the “Send to Trash” option (this menu is not translated to “pt_US”) . I believe it is safer to have the “Send to Trash (Delete)” option below the Rename option (F2).
Rename (F2)
Send to Trash (Delete)
Delete (Shift+Delete)As soon as possible, I will boot the ISO “antiX-23-alpha1-runit_x64-full.iso” on computers older than the one I posted in my previous message.
– – – – –
A minha sugestão:
prog “Unplug Removable Device” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/devices/drive-removable-media-usb.png unplugdrive.sh
prog “antiX Updater” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/categories/software-sources.png /usr/local/bin/yad-updater
prog “Software Installer” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/apps/packageinstaller.png su-to-root -X -c packageinstaller
prog “File Manager” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/apps/file-manager.png desktop-defaults-run -fm
prog “Web Browser” /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48×48/apps/web-browser.png desktop-defaults-run -b
As traduções relacionadas a Lixeira poderiam estar no arquivo “trash.desktop”.
Renamear (F2)
Send to Trash (Delete)
Excluir (Shitf + Delete)Assim que for possível, eu irei inicializar a ISO “antiX-23-alpha1-runit_x64-full.iso” em computadores mais antigos que este que eu postei na minha mensagem anterior.

green screen on both old and new kernel, never seen that before,
normal is only happens the antiX latest version. I use Kernel: 5.18.0-4-amd64 arch: x86_64 from debian,
the legacy kernel has booted fine up to this time.
The ISO sha256 sum is checked, usb stick was booting stable version until I rewrote this morning.
Stick was formatted after getting greenout. No errors from antiX usb write utility.
Screen messages and system Info attached.System runs fine, no high temeratures or other reported issues.

Just to see how another distro that uses antiX does on the same hardware, here’s Legacy OS right after booting:
free -h total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 7.7Gi 209Mi 7.2Gi 40Mi 296Mi 7.2Gi Swap: 8.0Gi 0B 8.0Gi masinick@LegacyOS:~I’ll do antiX 22 here too for comparison.

ok. Just tried it live:
*about my infernal login “bug”:
-The issue I reported that happens in the installed antiX 19/22 here in this Dell desktop, happens when running antiX 23-a1 live:
I boot (it’s the same on both kernels) to a desktop without conky, and nothing seems to work until I change desktop/restart IcewM. Just found a new think: at least here in antiX 23a1, things do run- I clicked, by mistake in the presentation video and I got the scare of my life when I started hearing a strange voice after some 5 seconds- it’s D.O.’s voice, from the video- nothing showed in the desktop, but the video was running!*about the looks:
-Wow – great default wallpaper
-Wow – great that the default icewm theme is the dark one, nice touch, having volume-icon set to white- it’s easy to see! Perfect
-The new menu and toolbar layout seems more intuitive, less cluttered.*about zzzfm:
-nice to have the usual bookmarks – but they don’t work on localized systems because they link to the english folder name: ex: /home/demo/documents, and not, in pt-pt /home/demo/documentos
-nice to see “Recent files” got into the zzzfm default setting – it’s a nice little touch, since jwm and fluxbox do not have a “Recent files” menu entry.
-“Restore” contextual menu should only show up in the trash folder (there’s an how-to do it, in the antix-23 suggestions thread, by me)
-“Send to trash” contextual menu should not show up when in the trash folder
-All this new zzzfm entries require, of course, localization- get ready, translation team!*Youtube video player fails to work
*Wallpaper settings does not show the “no wallpaper” option
*Recent files in Icewm menu seems to include the fix to show special characters! Yes!… but bobc’s updated scripts to manage that entry are not being used!
*on “just icewm” desktop, rox is the default File Manager – it makes sense to swap it for zzzfm, on all desktops (even when it’s not running desktop icons)
*”Modem manager”? Hum…
* Still no compositor installed by default? If it’s not too heavy, I vote for including one – its not just eye candy- it fixes some video problems too
* The sound, for some reason is way louder than on antiX 22! Yes- I can hear stuff fine on my tiny work speakers, was that by chance?
* If possible, use the .desktop entries localized for antiX autoremove; chroot; user language; yad-color
* Also, putting user language up for localization would be nice , if it’s not already (I did not see it)- if there’s a script worth localizing, it’s that one! 🙂*system resources: after playing with the OS, opening Firefox-esr, file manager, etc, and closing everything, 178M of RAM usage. Nice
When using just the “icewm” desktop, it uses 159M of 8Gb*Suggestion (for any antix version, in fact):
– in Control Panel, if CUPS is not installed, in printer settings, show a window warning users to install it, and if, disabled just run it, before showing the printer properties)
– Maybe add an updated GUI script to set the page size, also in C.P.?
– Include the suggestions I made in Package Installer, if possible (and the option to install the old antix wallpapers).
– Add a GUI off-line .deb installer – doesn’t MX have it’s own deb-installer? Can it be used in antiX?
– Add the updated antiX-updater script, maybe?
– The script to connect to samba shares would be a nice addition, maybe? It only installs the dependencies at first run, so it takes just a few kb on the iso, and is right there in zzzfm, in case users need this feature.*Verdict:
For abetaalpha, extremely nice and stable, from what I tested!
The OS looks more slick, modern, easy to use, feature rich, just amazing, considering it uses way less than 200Mb of RAMP.

Apart from other real dangers where vehicles can be controlled remotely.
On my Stellantis Vehicle, Airbag failure warnings, poor contact in cheap and nasty cable connectors.
Very hard to find. Only real cure is soldering with a tested safe i.e. isolated soldering iron.
and being very careful about static. Airbags can release at very low voltage, specs say about 1,3Volt.If all 6 go my vehicle is Beyond economic repair.
Engine control has crashed several times, disconnect battery wait ten minutes reconnect, works for
months until next time.In summer at about 30C the heating controller, a microcomputer crashed several times. Result electric
heating elements on and max hot air blown in cabin. Aircon also went to full cool, obviously they do
not communicate.Back to find a safe place to stop, disconnect the battery, wait 10 minutes and reconnect so systems reboot.
Disconnect the battery on a modern BMW you have to get the car trailered to a workshop at high cost, pay for
diagnosis and resetting the trip online with BMW to allow battery to be recognised. You also can not just change
the battery.Total rip off. The owner controlls nothing, I was told I am not qualified to comment on why these measures are in
place.I am only a fully trained and experienced Master Mechanic and Vehicle Electrics technician on same level.
Not done that badly paid work for years but keep up and maintain my own vehicle. Also have uncovered many packs
of lies from specialist workshops. Trust in them, I have none. Worst ever experiences, vw audi totaly dirty proven
swindling company.Only modern vehicle I would buy, if I had the money that is, a Toyota Prius, the big one, taxi drivers swear by
them they are unlike most other vehicles so reliable. Local ones at about 480,000 KM, on one a battery cell was
replaced at 700,000, it is still in daily usage.
That is a single battery cell which developed high internal resistance was replaced, not the entire pack. The owner is a mechanic and vehicle electrics master at a stellantis workshop, he bought and replaced the cell
himself, worst or most difficult task was sourcing the cell. Toyota wanted to sell him a complete battery pack.
because a repair would be too dangerous… Liars.- This reply was modified 3 months, 1 week ago by Xunzi_23.

On something that new I would use the full iso since kernel 5.10 is included on that iso.
It is under advanced boot options on grub screen. Thanks for clearing up the wifi question.
All versions default to using our legacy 4.9.0-326 kernel. 5.10 kernels are available.

antiX-22-net_x64-net.iso
MX-21.3_x64.iso
kernel: whatever the default isI’ve just tried to install the base image and managed to get a little further.
I was able to boot to the desktop and start the full installation, but it soon failed.
I attach screenshot of the live logs – it complains about not being able to prepare the required partitions.Attachments:

Hi, I’m having problems installing AntiX. This is what I’ve done so far:
[1] Copied the iso image to a usb stick using ‘USB Writer’
[2] Booted to the usb stick with my Asus notebook:
– the menu appeared
– I set the keyboard to en/GB
– I ran AntiXThe desktop appeared OK, but then I realised that the touchpad and the wifi weren’t working.
[3] At this point I temporarily gave up with AntiX and tried installing MX linux from another usb stick:
– I booted to the usb stick
– saw that the touchpad/wifi were working OK
– went ahead and did a full install of MX (completely removing the windows o/s)[4] A couple of days later (after I had got hold of an ethernet/usb adapter), I thought I would try AntiX again.
– I booted to the same AntiX usb stick that I’d used before
– the menu appeared
– I set the keyboard to en/GB
– I tried to run AntiXBut, unlike in [2] above, the desktop does NOT appear. Instead it leaves me at the command prompt, suggesting that I do a cli install.
As a sanity check I tried using another AntiX usb stick – but the results are the same. It appears that installing MX linux has done something that prevents AntiX from booting properly.
Any ideas about what I can do to fix this?

To be honest, I am not 100% certain of these technical details; my guess is it should [install GRUB2 on the EFI partition], if such a partition exists and you have a read/write access.
Which assumes that you have a separate EFI partition created during/before install of the 1st system, i.e. Windows (hence the request for ‘sudo fdisk -l’)
Is any of the fancy capabalities used e.g. by Windows (RAID, fast-startup, secure-boot) enabled?
Does the current BIOS/Windows setting prevent you from *mounting* the EFI partition with write permissions?
Did you try to explicitly mount it read+write when booted in the live medium?
What were the results?
This could be something to block the option ESP in the installer.
Or a failure when creating the live-USB; I experienced some live-USB media creation tools and distributions having issues with EFI in the past and corrupted downloads as well.Which kernel did you boot into in the live-antiX installer (comparing the version with the Debian – was it older, newer)?
This could be the difference between Debian (you mentioned worked) and antiX (not yet there).
Did you update antiX live-USB to the latest kernel available when making the updates of the live-system?I once had an issue with antiX-19.3 installer and I had to install the latest antiX-kernel available at that time (currently 5.10.142) in order to be able to boot on that new HW.
I do not wish to be nitpicky about the ISO-integrity but I once started a topic with my mouse suddenly not working reliably and it turned out all I had to do was to look at its bottom, see that the laser diode is off and that I need to clean the USB contact.
Info: grub-efi is a dummy package that depends on (CPU-)architecture ‘grub-efi-$ARCH’; then e.g. grub-efi-amd64 is a GRUB2 to be used with EFI-AMD64 architecture.

Hello @user2022,
I was able to successfully install Tazweb browser into my antiX21 system. Please see my screenshot.I had to add other dependencies to make it work. To install, I used:
$ sudo apt install '/home/antix/Downloads/libegl1-mesa_13.0.6-1+b2_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/libenchant1c2a_1.6.0-11.1+b1_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/libgbm1_13.0.6-1+b2_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/libharfbuzz-icu0_1.4.2-1_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/libhunspell-1.7-0_1.7.0-2_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/libicu57_57.1-6+deb9u5_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/libjavascriptcoregtk-1.0-0_2.4.11-3_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/libwebkitgtk-1.0-0_2.4.11-3_i386.deb' '/home/antix/Downloads/tazweb-gtk_202301-1_i386.deb'BUT the process uninstalls many of the programs like ytfzf, mpv, etc that I normally use in antiX21. Maybe I will look into installing antiX17. But I am very happy with antiX21. I have enjoyed this exercise and appreciate your expertise.

I have downloaded and used live usb maker to install on a usb that had had antix-19. That install was 32 bit and successfully installed to my SSD. I have reused the same usb to install antix-22 64 bit version, 1.4G.
md5sum etc all were good, and all files and directories are in place.
When booting from the usb as I had done before, the boot screen was not the one shown on website but one where it asked me to enter ‘live’ or failsafe’ or ‘grub’ and a couple of others. Whatever word I entered, the response was directory (or file) not found, apart from the grub one, when I didn’t know what to do next.-
Can anyone help?
I have also tried ventoy to boot the iso, but gives me the same screen as above. On examining the .iso contents, there is no live directory, just antix, boot, EFI, lost+found, and files, cdrom.ico, made-bylive-usb-maker and version.
My laptop is a repurposed chromebook, that has successfully run a number of linux distros, both frugally on sdcard, usb, from ventoy, and full install e.g.galliumos, mint, peppermintos, and now antix19 on SSD (sda).Edit: I retried so I could copy the boot screen text. It said:
graphics initialization failed
Error setting up gfxboot
welcome etc…
To start …type one of the names below…
live
safe
failsafe
harddisk
memtest
grubsee above post for results of these.

I didn’t check the ISO integrity, but I’m confident in the install as it is.
BIOS doesn’t pick up Antix because it is not listed in the EFI boot partition. Maybe I could just tweak someone else’s directory and build it manually? Seems to be the only thing missing.
I had tried a Debian 22 install and that one did create the directory, but Debian is missing drivers for my laptop so I got rid of it, without keeping the boot directory. No problem with the EFI dual booting with Debian.
So I’m not trying to debug the Antix install but rather looking for how to (re) install grub on an EFI system. That’s the only thing missing.
Do I need grub-efi? It’s installation will remove components of the present grub that came with the distribution, so I hesitate.
Or is there a description of the Antix boot directory in the EFI partition that I could just copy and tweak in mine?
That’s where I’m at right now.January 23, 2023 at 6:21 am #98052Member

Hi, it’s been a while since I wrestled with (U)EFI.
0) Did you check the downloaded ISO for integrity before creating the live-USB?
1) What are your BIOS settings regarding boot (secure boot on/off, UEFI-only/first and legacy)?
2) Please, post ‘inxi’ output when booted live.Regarding 1): Perhaps, BIOS boots both (U)EFI (first/preferred) and Legacy (second) and legacy gets somehow preferred.

Topic: Installation problem
