to consider is disabling the touchpad when typing for X seconds
it’s easily done with syndaemon
#!/bin/bash #turns off touchpad while typing# syndaemon -i 3 -dIt’s also enough to put this into /.desktop-session/startup file to get the touchpad disabled while typing.

Hello techore and PPC.
Which of the two programs to disable the touchpad can we implement the translation features and still create a .desktop file?
I (would) use both. They serve two different uses, really. For example, I will disable the touchpad with or without a mouse. On the script to disable the touchpad when using a mouse, it should be an option not enabled by default so to avoid confusing new users.
A third touchpad feature to consider is disabling the touchpad when typing for X seconds to avoid palm selection and accidental deletion. Another item, on my “To do” list.

Olá techore e PPC.
Qual dos dois programas para desativar o touchpad nós podemos implementar os recursos de tradução e ainda criamos um arquivo .desktop?

Partly off topic:
Untested script to turn of touchpad is a mouse is plugged in and turn it back on once it’s unplugged (inspired by this thread and https://askubuntu.com/questions/819300/bash-how-to-look-for-a-mouse-in-bash:

spaz, does your laptop have a key to toggle the touchpad? Even if it doesn’t, you can assign a key combo to execute a script to toggle the touchpad on and off.
Here is the one I use.
https://gitlab.com/techore/antix-dwm/-/blob/main/file/bin/touchpad-toggle.sh
#!/usr/bin/env bash # Project: antix-dwm # Location: /usr/local/bin/toggle-touchpad.sh # Dependency: xinput # Description: Simple script to enable or disable touchpad and # send a desktop notification using libnotify. # Usage: dwm calls on use of XF86XK_TouchpadToggle SEND_NOTIFICATION=true declare -i ID ID=<code>xinput list | grep -Eio '(touchpad|glidepoint)\s*id\=[0-9]{1,2}' | grep -Eo '[0-9]{1,2}'</code> declare -i STATE STATE=<code>xinput list-props $ID|grep 'Device Enabled'|awk '{print $4}'</code> if [ $STATE -eq 1 ]; then xinput disable $ID echo Touchpad disabled. notify-send 'Touchpad disabled' -t 3000 else xinput enable $ID echo Touchpad enabled. notify-send 'Touchpad enabled' -t 3000 fiAt some point, I will get around to creating a script that identifies if a mouse is connected and disabled the touchpad. On my “To do” list.

Not a GUI method, but a command line method. Forum search Forum search will come up with e.g. some hints like that:
How to disable laptop touchpadAnd from this post you can learn how to bind the command to an unused button-combination of your keyboard, so you’ll need to press a single button only to activate/deactivate the touchpad in an instant. Would that method perform action speedy enough?
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Hi All.
No posts on this forum about this question that I can see.
Is there a GUI method to disable / toggle laptop trackpad / touchpad?
The touchpad / trackpad is typically more of hindrance than a help to me.
Occassionally useful, but it is sensitive enough to keep flicking the cursor around while I type, setting my typing in various places in a document while I type. Quite annoying. It would be good to have a fast way to enable / disable / toggle touchpad.
I know it can be done via terminal somehow, but for sake of speed would be nice if there is a GUI option on this?
My laptop has a pointstick too, and I would prefer to stick to using only this most of the time.
Thanks.- This topic was modified 2 months, 3 weeks ago by spaz.

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problemsNovember 7, 2022 at 10:09 am #92580Memberaquafoxyirina
Hi! i installed antiX 19.5 some months ago, loved it although shortly after install it seemed to drag whenever i did certain things (such as open ROX fm, although only while offline). was odd but anyway, irrelevant to now, as antiX 22 x64 runit full, works perfectly
with that said, i have a few worries?
first off, my laptop seems to not start its fans, so i installed i8kutils from synaptic after looking around, it did.. nothing. but what i’m concerned about is that it installed some systemd directory/file, which i even ugh.. checked the dependancxies in synaptic and found nothing to hint would be a problem but then when randomly used “locate systemd” it found some stuff .-.
after tracing some of the places (idr anymore) and complete-removing i8kutils, the ones that it added are gone, but
even though the only packages i’ve -manually- added since install are, in total:
(after uninstalling, i reinstalled) kernel 4.9.0-326 via package manager
installed xinput 1.6.3-1 via synaptic (in order to auto disable Dell laptop touchpad and touchscreen and webcam, very useful)
installed chinese, japanese, korean, russian, and ukrainian fonts via package manager
installed GIMP-full via package manager
installed lynx and lynx-common via synaptic
then installed, then removed, i8kutils
(all on running IceWM)so what i’m worried about is if i somehow pulled in systemd/elogind/such things!
“locate systemd” gives:
/etc/apt/preferences.d/00systemd
/usr/bin/deb-systemd-helper
/usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke
/usr/share/mime/text/x-systemd-unit.xml
/var/lib/apt/lists/la.mxrepo.com_antix_bullseye_dists_bullseye_nosystemd_binary-amd64_Packages
/var/lib/apt/lists/la.mxrepo.com_antix_bullseye_dists_bullseye_nosystemd_binary-i386_Packages(i realise the lists are safe LOL, but putting for reference/completeness)
and “locate elogind” gives:
/usr/lib/elogind
/usr/lib/elogind/system-sleep
/usr/lib/elogind/system-sleep/49-tlp-sleep(tlp in synaptic mentions these, but tlp is also involved with i8kutils and i didn’t check this until after…)
locate libelogind and libelogind0 give nothing, not using any desktop environment as it’s warned could bring in (though really i don’t like DE anyway so)
the other big issue i’m worrying about is that in boot, it gives me a warning:
[ 0.092641] Spectre V2 : WARNING: Unprivileged eBPF is enabled with eIBRS on, data leaks possible via Spectre v2 BHB attacks!i don’t really have any clue here, is there a way to restrict it to privileged only, is that undesirable, or? also: for info, i enabled the like.. disc encryption option when installing antiX 22, the spectre message appears right before it asks encyrption password on boot
i also see something mentions a warning after successfully passing this and just before slimski login page, but it zooms by way too fast that i can’t read it- This topic was modified 6 months ago by aquafoxyirina.

MemberRobin
Just for comparison, I’ve installed latest debian default kernel on antiX 21, since I’ve read while searching for a solution for this nouveau issue in 5.10 kernel from above, that these issues should vanish in 5.15 kernel magically. In the repos doesn’t seem to exist any 5.15 kernel, so I installed latest available default debian kernel from the backport repos:
linux-image-5.19.0-0.deb11.2-686-pae: Installiert: 5.19.11-1~bpo11+1 Installationskandidat: 5.19.11-1~bpo11+1 Versionstabelle: *** 5.19.11-1~bpo11+1 100 100 http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-backports/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/statusAnd what should I say, actually the issue from the 5.10 kernel is fixed, it boots antiX straight up to desktop. It even uses nouveau driver on a speed and clean view I’ve never seen from nouveau ever before here. This comes very near already to the proprietary nvidia drivers. Will need to get some further stress testing, but it looks promising, really. For now it seems to run absolutely stable. Maybe I can get rid of the proprietary nvidia stuff in near future and switch to 5.x kernel series for everyday work… I’m writing these lines from this very system right now. It’s amazing! Here the details:

I’ve had the same problem.
Try adding
syndaemon -i 1 -d &
to your startup file (.desktop-session/startup).
from the man page:
syndaemon – a program that monitors keyboard activity and disables the touchpad when the keyboard is being used.
DESCRIPTION
Disabling the touchpad while typing avoids unwanted movements of the pointer that could lead to giving focus to
the wrong window.
OPTIONS
-i <idle-time>
How many seconds to wait after the last key press before enabling the touchpad. (default is 2.0s).
-d Start as a daemon, ie in the background.May 21, 2022 at 5:50 pm #83409In reply to: What are you “here” with today?

Here is my second-most capable laptop; it is the most capable system I have that is able to successfully run antiX.
On this system antiX 21 “runit” Base runs very well and I am able to use it without any restrictions whatsoever. Moreover, the Touchpad.bash script I’ve written to enable or disable the keyboard touchpad works well, so when
I have a USB mouse available, I can disable the touchpad so that it doesn’t inadvertently interfere with other
activities.inxi -Fxz System: Kernel: 5.17.0-9.1-liquorix-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 10.2.1 Console: tty pts/0 Distro: antiX-21-runit_x64-base Grup Yorum 30 October 2021 base: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) Machine: Type: Laptop System: Dell product: Inspiron 5558 v: 01 serial: <filter> Mobo: Dell model: 086DKN v: A00 serial: <filter> UEFI: Dell v: A04 date: 08/06/2015 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 30.1 Wh (100.0%) condition: 30.1/41.4 Wh (72.6%) volts: 16.1 min: 14.8 model: Samsung SDI DELL 07G07587587 status: Full CPU: Info: Dual Core model: Intel Core i7-5500U bits: 64 type: MT MCP arch: Broadwell rev: 4 cache: L2: 4 MiB flags: avx avx2 lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 vmx bogomips: 19156 Speed: 2595 MHz min/max: 500/2401 MHz boost: enabled Core speeds (MHz): 1: 2595 2: 2403 3: 2395 4: 2424 Graphics: Device-1: Intel HD Graphics 5500 vendor: Dell driver: i915 v: kernel bus-ID: 00:02.0 Device-2: NVIDIA GK208BM [GeForce 920M] vendor: Dell driver: nvidiafb v: kernel bus-ID: 08:00.0 Device-3: Suyin Integrated_Webcam_HD type: USB driver: uvcvideo bus-ID: 2-5:4 Display: server: X.org 1.20.11 driver: loaded: modesetting unloaded: fbdev, vesa tty: 132x32 Message: Advanced graphics data unavailable in console for root.

20. runit: configure logs for anacron, connman, cron, dbus, and haveged
21. neovim: update from 8.0 to 8.2Hi! i installed antiX 19.5 some months ago, loved it although shortly after install it seemed to drag whenever i did certain things (such as open ROX fm, although only while offline). was odd but anyway, irrelevant to now, as antiX 22 x64 runit full, works perfectly
with that said, i have a few worries?
first off, my laptop seems to not start its fans, so i installed i8kutils from synaptic after looking around, it did.. nothing. but what i’m concerned about is that it installed some systemd directory/file, which i even ugh.. checked the dependancxies in synaptic and found nothing to hint would be a problem but then when randomly used “locate systemd” it found some stuff .-.
after tracing some of the places (idr anymore) and complete-removing i8kutils, the ones that it added are gone, but
even though the only packages i’ve -manually- added since install are, in total:
