      Hello, @Xecure and @PPC

I think it is still valid for me to explain that I was so anxious to post the tests that I was unable to take the reverse translation test.

Usually, I copy the translation result from the Portuguese language to the English language of the online translator. In the same online translator, I translate again from English to Portuguese and check to see if the text is consistent. That time I didn’t have time to do this long process. And the text in English was very different from what I actually wrote in Portuguese.

I would like all of us to speak the same language. For this type of inconvenient situation could be avoided and would not have happened.

If possible, I would like you to write how good or bad the experience of using this test iso is compared to using antiX 16. Is video, display and transitions as fluid as in antiX 16? Does things load or move as slow as when you were using antiX 19? Any Graphical glitches? Any screen blinking? Does resizing the screen resolution in arandr break the display?

Tests performed on the computer with a Gigabyte GA-8S661FXM-775 motherboard with ISO “antiX-19-legacy-bet1_386-base.iso”, the images are from the test:

      https://ibb.co/1L7T5qv
      https://ibb.co/pPgx52b
      https://ibb.co/VLvxYBz
      https://ibb.co/k2QpP4p

When the mouse arrow passes over the menu, the images disappear. The menus are disorganized in relation to the correct pattern.

On each of the three computers that I sent the description through the commands, the video response was different, this one of the images was the one that was the best response and the other two were very similar to the behavior of the menus and the flaws.

The computer with the STI 910090 motherboard and Onboard Via VT8237R Plus video card that received antiX 16.3, is many kilometers away from where I live, I think I will only contact him again the day he or any of the other computers with antiX have some kind of problem.

What I remember (https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/how-to-set-the-set-gfxmode-1024x768x16-1024×768/page/6/) is that antiX 16.3 was a little better than the ISO video response “antiX-19-legacy-bet1_386-base.iso”. However, if I buy the tests on the three computers previously described with antiX 19.3 full 32 bits, the result is that it cannot be used due to the slow response of the video, freezes, several ghosts on the screen and some flashing dots on the screen. screen. The flaws in relation to the ISO video “antiX-19-legacy-bet1_386-base.iso” are acceptable as the computer responds well. The flaws are in the menus, it seems, are related to the desktop:

Rox-IceWM: menus equal to the 4 screenshots.
JWM: the applications menu does not display the sub menus, other menus are being displayed normally.
Fluxbox: only two icons that are not displayed in the menu (Cliplt and Searchmonkey), there is no other type of failure. It would be possible to use normally with this workspace.

Resizing the screen resolution with the arandr is not possible with the Gigabyte motherboard, it only allows 1024×768 resolution.

There is no flashing screen with the Gigabyte motherboard.

You described everything that happens, fewer failures with the Gigabyte card and many more failures with the ASUS cards.

If the release of a version of the community is possible and still occurs with the consent of the official team, I think this initiative is valid. I regret that I do not have the necessary knowledge to help you in this process of creating the ISO. My time for testing is after work hours and at home. On weekends I can collaborate much more with the tests.

This will be quite a challenge.

My experience with the Palemoon web browser was on Puppy Linux and it was frustrating. I couldn’t see the RAM consumption of the systems with Palemoon running a Youtube video.

In the tests I did with antiX 16.3 on the computer with the STI 91009 motherboard, playing a YouTube video, with Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome and Chromium. Chromium was the one that played the YouTube video with better image quality and didn’t crash during execution. Before this test I had a bad judgment on this internet browser.

These computers may even be old, but they will not be abandoned by me while they are working. I know that they can be reused by other people. It is better to reuse them than to be thrown in the trash. If they had Intel or NVidia video, they would already have antiX 19.3 full.

I hope the English language text arrives correctly.

      Thanks

      Obrigado

Waterfox is security wise in some ways not so much an alternative for me as far less focus is on it,
i like it but it is very much a heroic one man project.
It broke just as many sites as Palemoon while using more memory, last time I checked it had around 500
        bugs open too.

        With regard to firefox:
I dislike some of the things Mozilla does, especialy the fact that Firefox comes with opt out telemetry and
as delivered crash reporter which can be triggered remotely to give a memory dump. Plus hidden extensions
some like screenshot can be triggered remotely.. Why is that there, my guess is on orders from an agency.

Advantage is much research work from TOR project and the already compiled and regularly updated user.js
which has been a long term project from many contributors.
Biggest at present I think Thoren Oakenpants.

You can also bin a lot of the “included features” in firefox and it still works fine, from a user point of
        view that is.

Chrome is absolute no go, If at all the ungoogled version might be liked by some users.
It has no room on my computer. The only thing which is sure about chrome is it gathers plenty of data for
        google.

Firefox 83 Go Live is planned for Tuesday evening, 6 PM Pacific Time. The other dates are on the Google Calendar, which has the most accurate current scheduling. The first link discusses the Firefox Release Calendar and shows the dates of past releases and proposed dates for future releases; right now it’s pretty close to the Google Calendar, but they mention Firefox Merge/Release Full Scheduling Calendar (ICS) (highly detailed – 99.99% up to date).

              Hello Xecure, how are you?

Anyway, today I managed to send the results of some tests that I’ve been doing.

Before that I will comment on some tests that I did with gdebi and the results of the remaining tests from the topic https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/suggestions-about-antix-linux-to-developers-and-maintainers/page/2/ .

Installing programs / packages without internet access with gdebi, my conclusions were that it works only if the program has few dependencies. The packages were downloaded with the installation of the program with Synaptic or with the Package Installer, it was possible to perform the installation: firefox-esr_68.9.0esr_deb8u2_amd64.deb “.

              Open Gdeb:
select “firefox-esr_68.9.0esr_deb8u2_amd64.deb”, Open, displayed the message: “All dependencies are satisfied”, click Install Package, Installation complete, Close,
repeat the process with the package “firefox-esr-l10n-en-br_68.9.0esr-1 ~ deb8u2_all.deb”, Open, displayed the message: “All dependencies are satisfied”, click Install Package, Installation complete, Close ,

Installation process completed successfully, details displayed by the Gdeb Terminal:

(Reading database … 150815 files and directories currently installed.)
              Preparing to unpack … / firefox-esr_68.9.0esr-1_deb8u2_amd64.deb …
Leaving ‘diversion from / usr / bin / firefox to /usr/bin/firefox.real by firefox-esr’

              Configuring firefox-esr-l10n-en-en (68.9.0esr-1 ~ deb8u2) …

Other examples of installation without internet access that worked successfully were: Google Chrome Stable 84.0.4147.135-1, trash-cli_0.17.1.14-2_all.deb, mednafen_1.21.1, Onboard and Xvkbd.

Examples of installation without internet access that did not work with Gdeb: Chromium 83.0.4103.116-1, Gdeb required dependencies that were not downloaded when installing programs with Synaptic or the Package Installer on an antiX 19.2 full 64 bit without update. With the command you taught me, $ sudo dpkg -i * {Enter}, install whatever is in the folder without asking, Chromium 83.0.4103.116-1 with the same dependencies that Gdeb cannot install, dpkg can install and make the program work.

Attempt that failed to install without internet access of the translation of LibreOffice 6.4.1.2 with Gdeb, with the packages that were downloaded with the installation of the program with Synaptic or with the Package Installer. I was installing each dependency that Gdeb didn’t complain about the need for another dependency, until I reached the main dependencies, at a certain point in the process of installing the “libreoffice-common_1% 3a6.4.5-1 ~ bpo10 + 1_all.deb” package, displayed the message: “All dependencies are satisfied”, click on Install the Package, Error during the installation of the package, requested that the command be applied in the terminal, $ sudo apt-get install -f, I searched the internet and I couldn’t find what this command was for, I applied it and the result was that Gdeb’s orientation led to error, after the command in the terminal uninstalled part of LibreOffice, Writer and Calc, leaving Impress, Draw and Math.

Still on some of the links that you had made available on the other topic, through those tips, I found how to install without internet access using Synaptic. With Synaptic it was possible to create a script (.sh) to download the packages of each program, I preferred to run the script via Terminal, because it is possible to see the process of downloading each package, being all packages in the same folder it was possible to make some program installations without internet access. In some programs, when installing the program without internet access, Synaptic itself complains about the absence of some dependencies. I couldn’t understand, Synaptic couldn’t predict if all dependencies are met before creating the complete script, I think that’s what happened.

Tests with “my-offline-repo-0116.zip”, aim to update the antiX 19.2 operating system full 64 bits, option “Download Updates”:

Computer 1: has antiX 19.2 full 64 bits that received some system updates before and after using “my-offline-repo-0116.zip”, has access to the internet.

Computer 2: has antiX 19.2 full 64 bits that has not received system updates, does not have access to the internet and has “suffered” from the tests in the examples I described above and from other installation tests without internet access that I did not describe above.

With Computer 1, I ran “my-offline-repo-0116.zip”, configured as follows: Folder: Meu_Repositorio_Offline_v0116, Package List: antix19.2-full, clicked “Update the package list”, they were downloaded 245 packages, in addition to creating Packages and 0_erros.log. I disconnected from the internet by disabling the network card, I went back to the main menu, I clicked “Install from local repository”, I selected the folder “Meu_Repositorio_Offline_v0116”, I clicked “Add Repo”, then “Update”, Computer 1 was updated with success without internet access, new programs are already appearing, such as the “antiX Wifi Switch” that you developed.

With Computer 2, I copied the folder “Meu_Repositorio_Offline_v0116”, listing the 245 packages, in addition to creating Packages and 0_erros.log, executed “my-offline-repo-0116.zip”, clicked “Install from local repository”, selected the folder “Meu_Repositorio_Offline_v0116”, I clicked “Add Repo”, then “Update”, Computer 2 was successfully updated without internet access, new programs appear, such as the “antiX Wifi Switch” that you developed.

Certainly “my-offline-repo-xxxx.zip” is or will be the best program to install programs without internet access.

Excuse me for taking so long to post test results again.

              Thanks

              Configurando firefox-esr (68.9.0esr-1~deb8u2) …
              A processar ‘triggers’ para desktop-file-utils (0.23-4) …
              A processar ‘triggers’ para mime-support (3.62) …
              A processar ‘triggers’ para man-db (2.8.5-2) …
              A processar ‘triggers’ para hicolor-icon-theme (0.17-2) …
A seleccionar pacote anteriormente não seleccionado firefox-esr-l10n-pt-pt.
(Lendo banco de dados … 150815 ficheiros e directórios actualmente instalados.)
              A preparar para desempacotar …/firefox-esr-l10n-pt-pt_68.9.0esr-1_deb8u2_all.deb …
              A descompactar firefox-esr-l10n-pt-pt (68.9.0esr-1~deb8u2) …
              Configurando firefox-esr-l10n-pt-pt (68.9.0esr-1~deb8u2) …

              Obrigado

                @xsecure,
thanks for the answers, on search engine we misunderstood each other, On this latest version
I left Duck and replaced google with MetaGer. No matter because i learned more from the way you did it.

In the old version I started with metaGer as first tab, that is still active so your changes
work on second tab when I open it.
Right now I am not sure where I set the MetaGer start in the old version. Will look after some sleep.

No matter because i learn more.
https://maps.metager.de/ is nice too because non tracking, can be used for route planning.

Duck has these too for non java search.
                https://html.duckduckgo.com/html
                https://lite.duckduckgo.com/lite

I only switch on java if I am more or less forced to do so. Mostly sites will work without but not
all with same browser. For a couple of important but very stubborn sites I have a separate isolated
user and pretty much standard Firefox browser.

                  badwolf 1.0.3-4 release

PPC came up with an idea and created a startpage to act as a landing page for every time badwolf is launched or a new tab is opened.

Thanks to this, I started working with PPC and we finally have this release here.

                  What is new:

                  – Bug fixes from the main developer (https://hacktivis.me/releases/badwolf-1.0.3.txt)
                  – Landing page with many links highly used (antiX linux, forum, MX linux, and others).
                  – Search box for most used search engines (only ddg and google). The search defaults to DuckDuckGo, but clicking “Google” button will let your search start on Google.
                  – Added a “Favorites Manager” yad application to manage the links under “Favorites” on the startpage. This is intended to replace the missing bookmarks problem this browser has (until the developer adds full bookmark support). You can call for the link manager with the key combination “Control + B” from inside badwolf.
                  – Possible fix for the freezes that came when you click “skip add” and other buttons on youtube. It isn’t really a fix, as I only changed a recommended package to a main dependencies. Hopefully this fixes it for most of you (it is fixed for me on most of my machines). This is not a propper solution yet. I have found that on one of my machines with an antiX core build I cannot view videos (missing some component for HTML5), but youtube works on firefox on the same machine. So this is still a work in progress and I hope to, at some point in time, find all the missing dependencies.

Very few changes, but it makes it more practical for most of us. Also, don’t expect anymore changes in the main code from me. C Language is still a mystery for me and every change took days of my lifespan.
What I do want to do is add a few hotkeys, like Control + W to close tabs, and maybe some other (suggestions welcome). Have a look at the Hotkeys in the startpage. I will add all requests related to the actions of those hotkeys (if I can). There are ones I would like but I don’t know how to add (Middle click to open link on a new tab, or the same behavior for Control+left-click), so don’t ask me for those.

                  Buster 32 bits: https://gitlab.com/nXecure/my-packages/-/raw/master/badwolf/badwolf-1.0.3-4/badwolf_1.0.3-4_i386.deb

How to install (requires online connection and updated packagelists):
Option 1. Open a terminal, move to the Downloads folder (or wherever you downloaded the file) and run:
                  sudo apt install ./badwolf_1.0.3-4_amd64.deb
                  or for 32 bits:
                  sudo apt install ./badwolf_1.0.3-4_i386.deb

Option 2. Using drag and drop (from ROX filer or SpaceFM).
Launch a terminal and start writing (but don’t execute)
                  sudo apt install
Open you file manager (Rox or Spacefm) and navigate to the folder containing the badwolf .deb. Select the badwolf deb file and drag it to the terminal. It will fill out the rest of the command with the path to the badwolf file. Run the command and it will install.

The source tarbal files are here: https://gitlab.com/nXecure/my-packages/-/tree/master/badwolf/badwolf-1.0.3-4

Special thanks to PPC, who is the main reason this new release was possible.

                  All feedback welcome.

In antiX 19.3, minstall is version 1.3.3. I made an encrypted install of 19.3 to the SSD and at first, the error messages were absent. Unfortunately, after a few boots they’re back.

It is a pitty. The problem may be related to something else, but my experience with encryption is almost zero. Maybe it is even related to the partition format, but this is me shooting in the dark.

Does anyone who uses encryption know or have experienced this behaviour previously and can shine some light on the issue?

Edit: Searching for the posted errors leads to a posible hardware problem or driver problems, but I couldn’t find a lead to indicate this is related to encryption.
                    Possible reasons found are:
SATA link power management causes disk errors and corruption
                    Damaged SATA cable
                    Kernel regression
                    Firmware regression
BIOS Firmware update needed for high speed SSDs

It may seem some people get it “fixed” by using an updated firmware or using the boot parameter “libata.force=3.0” to change the read/write sata speed.

like google.com page not displaying font correctly..

I understand that is your experience from your country, but I cannot rerpoduce it from mine. I need a website that will show tamil font rendering problems from any country.

now the google search engine only accept tamil language as input. but my default language is English everywhere

Uninstall the firefox-esr-l10n-ta package for now and make sure you have your keyboard layout set correctly.

Once you can give me a different link that can be displayed the same way from any country I can test it out.

I think you got a bit excited and got confused with some things.

First, you should have a look at what software antiX provides by default. You could have used package installer to install google chrome instead of downloading the binary. Icecat does need to be installed from source as you did, but google chrome is very easy to install using the package installer.

You should be able to use almost the same method to uninstall as you used to install. Read the make instructions for installing and uninstalling from source. Removing using “delete all files found using locate” is a very bad method.

Most of the files listed are no problem (icons for chrome, configurations for chrome, f.e. with firejail, calibre, etc.) I see you already removed the google-chrome-stable binaries, but you still have a lot of trash files because you didn’t follow the steps to uninstall properly, for example:

                        /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop
                        /usr/share/doc/google-chrome-stable
                        /usr/share/doc/google-chrome-stable/changelog.gz
                        /usr/share/galternatives/descriptions/google-chrome.desktop
                        /usr/share/gnome-control-center/default-apps/google-chrome.xml
                        /usr/share/man/man1/google-chrome-stable.1.gz
                        /usr/share/man/man1/google-chrome.1.gz
                        /usr/share/xfce4/helpers/google-chrome.desktop
                        /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/google-chrome

                        Les lignes suivantes : `/usr/src/linux-headers-4.9.212-antix.1-amd64-smp/drivers/firmware/google
                        /usr/src/linux-headers-4.9.212-antix.1-amd64-smp/drivers/firmware/google/Kconfig
                        /usr/src/linux-headers-4.9.212-antix.1-amd64-smp/drivers/firmware/google/Makefile`

Dans quel but ?

A quick search in google or other search engine would have answered your question.
                        https://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/GOOGLE_FIRMWARE.html
“These firmware drivers are used by Google’s servers. They are only useful if you are working directly on one of their proprietary servers.”
As with most other options, they are available in the kernel in case of that use, the same as the drivers for your specific hardware is also included in the kernel. Please relax. Google is not “spying on you”. There are hundreds of firmwares included in antiX for most computers to work. If firmware and drivers were not included, you would not be able to even load antiX on your system. These google options are for specific google hardware, and will not load or apply to your system, but they are there “just in case”.

Je ne sais pas pourquoi il a mis dans dist-packages “youtube_dl” … A quel moment ?

About youtube-dl program, it is a program that comes with antiX for you to download and play youtube videos (used also for streaming youtube to other video players), as some old computers cannot play youtube videos in the browser (because their processor and graphic card are too slow for the heavy html5 renderer).
If you don’t want it, you can remove it.
                        sudo apt purge youtube-dl

I think you need to read a bit more on what programs come with antiX. Many articles in the “Tips and Tricks” section in the forum.

Dans quel but ?

@ Brian, it was not an antiX translation problem. Just Firefox, and only partial, especialy in settings.
We now have FF back in us english. I have also been unable to replicate the weird issue with newer downloads.

Thanks skidoo for your detailed post, we still have a lot ot think about.

A winter idea is to try and automate

                              $ rm {crashreporter,crashreporter.ini,removed-files}
                              $ rm {updater,updater.ini,minidump-analyzer,pingsender}
                              $ rm -Rf icons
                              $ mv precomplete precomplete_RENAMED
                              $ mv plugin-container plugin-container_RENAMED
                              $ rm browser/features/doh-rollout*.xpi
                              $ rm browser/features/screenshots*.xpi
                              $ rm browser/features/webcompat*.xpi

                              Will now add,
                              $ chmod -x *.so

Before first start, pull in https://github.com/arkenfox/user.js and put it in the correct directory, along with user.js updater and
prefs.js cleaner scripts. run as wished for.

most of us are installing in a non standard place as well as some following your post in another thread, renaming
the browser binary and using the wrapper script you kindly provided. Since doing that browser unresponsive then on kill
spawning in to headless seems resolved.

Having tried a user.js somehat similar to heavily customised the one you created which resulted in having kids locked out of
school applications, due I guess in part to lack of expertise we took a comprimise path. Lockout also occurs with old, just a
                              browser FF versions.

Our hosts file contains as many google and mozilla adresses as I was able to find. It is a huge number and proven only
partially effective. Changed to open dns as Firefox comes sending all requests to cloudflare as well as google.

                              Agree on
Nope, I don’t needa “Pocket” nor AutoFormFill nor Payments nor TopSites nor ActivityStream…
Nope, I don’t want the friggin browser (plus, choose: comcast, cloudflare) to usurp management of DNS services.

Standard Search engine for us is MetaGer. kids seem only to know google.

The jumping madness bar sends users in to fits, real epeleptic ones. Some of the kids get seering headeachs from it.
Used user chrome csss fix to stop that. (other post).

Badwolf is on installations, I think I am the only one to use it, as is palemoon, school portal accepts neither.
Not enough parents even understand there is something beyond what windoze brings no support for change.
not yet anyway. Privately the school admin is fine, he just gets run down by ignorance.

It feels very much like fighting autumn leaves in the wind, you get some but a lot gets past.

Tested today using a pristine antiX19 full in virtualbox:

                                  $ mkdir /tmp/f
                                  visit https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/linux/
                                  click “Download Now”
                                  SaveAs /tmp/firefox-81.0.tar.bz2 (68.9MB)

I extracted using “Archive Manager”, descended into the subdirectory containing the “firefox” and “firefox-bin” files… SelectAll, and copied the contents into
                                  /tmp/f/

                                  $ cd /tmp/f
                                  $ rm {crashreporter,crashreporter.ini,removed-files}

Hooboy, modern “browsers” are extremely privacy-unfriendly beasts.
Nope, I don’t needa “Pocket” nor AutoFormFill nor Payments nor TopSites nor ActivityStream…
Nope, I don’t want the friggin browser (plus, choose: comcast, cloudflare) to usurp management of DNS services.

While _NOT_ connected to the network, first-run launch

                                  I modded about 750 within prefs.js https://pastebin.com/Qw6hBYAv
and saved a copy of the modified prefs.js file for my future reference.
                                  .
For a “permanant” installation, I probably would have created /etc/hosts entries to block each of the myriad (~50?) various mothership googleapi//mozilla.org hostnames the browser expects contact.

                                  result:
I determined that ff 61esr AND ff version 81 could be installed concurrently AND can be launched concurrently.
(hmm, during the test, I didn’t verfiy whether the new version was loading the locally-pathed .so files)
