      found the video again where I saw the tiling in AntiX, after the ones mentioned in the FAQ didn’t work.
      Didn’t watch it all, was just interested in the OEM way of tiling.
      As you can see in his video, the windows don’t get the maximize vertical flag my windows get.

      Is there something else I might have done previously to botch this up?

      Edit:
      just tried it with a live session, same result there. Maximize vertical is automatically done.
      No clue why it happens on my system, but not on the one the guy in the vid uses.

      Is there a way to use the “anordnen” feature you can do via right click the title bar with keyboard shortcuts?
      Doing it via the title bar doesn’t force the max. vert.

        Excellent catch! I was wondering if anyone would have any questions about some of the alias definitions.

        At one time, I had multiple workstations running multiple operating systems. At one point, I had VAX/VMS and/or OpenVMS, Windows NT, and multiple variations of Digital’s ULTRIX or Digital UNIX. Because of that, I’d often create either shortcuts or alias names that would perform similar functions, regardless of which platform I happened to be using. Also because we had really good networking, I could run systems across the complex, or even multiple units in my cubicle from either the same or different workstation keyboards, so I had a tendency to write things duplicated. VMS happened to have a type command – interestingly I think I had a VMS command definition for “cat” to equate to their type command too. Overall I probably standardized more on UNIX names because though I used both a lot, I actually had UNIX experience 3 years longer than my initial VMS experience.

          You guys lost me 😆

          IIRC, there was a vid on YouTube rather recently (within this year) that showed how tiling works.
          Though I think I just watched it to see if it’s actually possible to do that.
          Saw the possibility to tile windows in a vid about mx and now I’m looking how to do it on all my other devices.

          Tiling via the title bar works exactly how I image it, though keyboard shortcuts would be welcome.

          About multi monitor.
          Isn’t that rather depending if you have a cloned screen or an extended desktop?

            If you look above he isn’t using IceWM’s Tiling menu options. He has programmed additional keys to run WinGrid functions,

            You are right, Bob, of course, but argonaut also said something about using “IceWM’s tiling features”, so I (wrongly) assumed the user was refering Icewm, not wingrid.

            To clarify, argonaut: IceWM now has 2 ways to perform “pseudo-tiling” on windows: wingrid (that, since at least since the last ice age, came with antiX, long before it came with other proprietary OSes) and now IceWM’s itself, thanks to Bob’s efforts, has it’s own way to tile windows- it can also be used with keybindings (I’ll post a link to the relevant thread once I find it) or by right clicking the Title bar of a Window > Tile > chose where you want to tile the window to. It’s been reported that Wingrid fails to work with a multiple screen setup (because it treats all screens just like a giant one- the same thing happens if you try to printscreen, using multiple screens). IceWm’s own tiling features do work on multiscreen systems just fine, from what has been reported here in the forum…

            Edit: found it- try this, instead of the keybindings you added, it may work better for you:
            https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/icewm-moving-windows-with-keyboard-shortcuts/#post-91658

            edit2: just to cover all the bases, using a previous example from Bob, try to assign your keybindings to this commands:

            to tile to the left side of the screen:
            icesh -f sizeto 49% 100% top left

            to tile to the right side of the screen
            icesh -f sizeto 49% 100% top right

            I ran out of ideas… good luck with your tilling experiments!

            P.

              Dear users,

              If you are using a computer with several screens, you will have strange reactions with the ” WINGRID ” keyboard shortcuts.

              Please click on the screenshot and zoom out. This is a very large screenshot as there are 2 screens. The keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+1) and (Ctrl+2) of Wingrid do not match the description in the Wiki.

              Another example, with Wingrid, it is not possible to have 2 vertical windows on screen 1 and have 2 vertical windows on screen 2.

              That’s why I gave the antiX community other keyboard shortcuts for IceWM, Fluxbox and JWM using the keys (Windows logo + an arrow).

              Best regards,
              Wallon

                In antiX, there is a bug in this file, lines 23 and 24 must be corrected. Without this correction, the keyboard shortcuts will not work.
                For the correction, the following lines should be replaced;

                Thank you Wallon for some great tips on JWM configuration. And thanks for pointing out those bugs. I had them corrected some time ago as well in my install.
                Just my additional comment is that configuration of JWM is really very simple once basics are understood by user.

                  Dear Users,

                  ï»żIf you like JWM and want to use [the logo key (Windows) + an arrow key] to directly place your windows vertically or horizontally, I suggest this;

                  Logo key + right arrow = the window will be on the right vertically on half the screen.
                  Logo key + left arrow = the window will be on the left vertically on half the screen.
                  Logo key + up arrow = the window will be at the top horizontally on half the screen.
                  Logo key + down arrow = the window will be at the bottom horizontally on half the screen.

                  Do you like it? Then I invite you to add a few lines to your JWM configuration file.

                  1) Right click on the JWM desktop,
                  2) Select in the menu, the line “Control Center”,
                  3) In the “Desktop” tab, click on the “JWM Settings” icon,
                  4) Attention, you have 6 tabs which configure JWM. You must select the “keys” tab,
                  5) Insert in the line for example number 27 these 5 lines;

                  <!-- Move windows vertically or horizontally -->
                  <Key mask="4" key="Left">maxleft</Key>
                  <Key mask="4" key="Right">maxright</Key>
                  <Key mask="4" key="Up">maxtop</Key>
                  <Key mask="4" key="Down">maxbottom</Key>

                  6) After adding the 5 lines, select the “File” tab in the menu and then “Save”.
                  7) Select the “File” tab from the menu and then “Exit”.

                  You can exit your session by pressing “Logout”. When you restart, you can use these magic keys!

                  Note;

                  In antiX, there is a bug in this file, lines 23 and 24 must be corrected. Without this correction, the keyboard shortcuts will not work.

                  For the correction, the following lines should be replaced;

                  <Key key="XF86MonBrightnessDown" exec:backlight-brightness -5</Key>
                  <Key key="XF86MonBrightnessUp" exec:backlight-brightness +5</Key>

                  with;

                  <Key key="XF86MonBrightnessDown">exec:backlight-brightness -5</Key>
                  <Key key="XF86MonBrightnessUp">exec:backlight-brightness +5</Key>

                  This was tested on a computer with 2 screens. It works very well on the left screen and on the right screen.

                  In any case, I am not and will never be responsible for any damage to your computer after modifying your JWM configuration file.

                    Dear users,

                    I am testing the JWM environment.

                    If I put keyboard shortcuts in the “keys” file, nothing works.

                    If I put keyboard shortcuts in the .jwmrc file, it works.

                    Is the “keys” file corrupted? Do I have to remove a line for it to work?

                    Best regards,

                      Dear PPC,

                      I use FT10 all the time.

                      About the keyboard shortcuts – Windows key + arrow – I gave the shortcuts for Fluxbox and it works really well in FT10.
                      See my thread in the forum;
                      https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/fluxbox-moving-windows-with-new-keyboard-shortcuts/

                      You don’t need to program anything special for FT10.

                      Regarding the red circle around the mouse pointer, it’s great if you could put it in the FT10 package.

                      What I would like to see in FT10 is the “PrtScn” and “Calculator” keys which should be automatically activated. My “PrtScn” key does not call up the program for making screenshots and my “Calculator” key does not call up the Galculator program.

                      I would also like to understand why Google Chrome does not work well in the Fluxbox environment. I can’t click on the antiX forum menu to get the “Recent Posts”. This has nothing to do with your nice program, I am aware of that.

                      Best regards,
                      Wallon

                        I noticed a few threads here in the forum that I think are noteworthy of being here in this sticky post, that serves almost as a “unofficial” how to for antiX:

                        Do you want to “snap” a window to the top/bottom/left/right half of the screen?
                        antiX comes, out of the box with keybindings that allow you to do that (as of the time I write this, there is no way to drag the window and force it to change it’s shape, so you have to press a certain key combination to change the format and position of your window automatically). On the default window manager (icewm), you can also right click the title bar of the window and select the “Tiling” options (the 6th menu entry from the bottom). Please note that there are also options, on that menu to automatically rearrange several all open windows (great if you are working with 2 to 4 windows).
                        The keybindings to “tile” the windows can be consulted in menu > Control Center > Icewm… > “Keys” Tab.
                        The forum user Wallon made available a great and ilustrated tutorial on how to create shortcuts for the Icewm “tiling” options (that have the same effect has the default icewm keys, but work in a different way, and may work better in multi-monitor systems). I summed it up here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/icewm-moving-windows-with-keyboard-shortcuts/#post-91658

                        Do you want to press a keybinding and see a flashing visual marker showing you where the mouse pointer is?
                        This comes as a default feature in some Operating Systems, but it’s not available, out of the box in antiX. There’s a relatively easy procedure to follow that makes that feature available under antiX here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/highlighting-the-mouse-pointer/

                        Does your keyboard/laptop not have LED indicators that show if Caps Lock is on/off?
                        There is a package that allows you yo have a key-lock indicator in the system tray. There are detailed instructions on how to install it, for antiX 21/22 here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/keylock-indicator/

                        Do you want to add more themes to antiX (to antiX’s default window manager, IceWM)?

                        I wrote a small tutorial about that here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/how-to-add-new-themes-to-icewm-window-manager/#post-91906

                        Do the coordinates of the window that you are dragging show up on your screen and you don’t like that?
                        There’s a way to disable that Icewm feature: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/coordinates-when-dragging-the-windows/#post-92024

                        For users withe very old hardware (even 32bits machines):

                        If LibreOffice is too resource intensive on your computer you can try a lighter office suite: OpenOffice, from which LibreOffice originated. There’s a nice “how to” about that here, that even includes the link to a 64bits Appimage: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/openoffice-instead-of-libreoffice-for-antix-32-bit-machines/#post-92233

                        If you find that surfing the modern web is too slow on your computer, you can try some browsers, as pointed out here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/pale-moon-a-web-browser-for-very-old-laptops/
                        Please note that I suggest Min for 32bits devices, but that 32bits version is old (this means any security flaws were not patched, so don’t use it for anything security related like home-banking, etc) – but it works great for viewing webpages and even YouTube (at 360p, on my old 32bits laptop) if you want to be served countless adds.

                        P.

                          Hi Brian, I’m pretty strongly opposed to using Google services from a privacy perspective, and every time I’ve tried Abiword and Gnumeric over the years they haven’t been the right fit for me. I know that Google and Abiword and Gnumberic all have their fans, but I am not one of them. On the other hand, I’m not bashing anything, I know that everyone has their favorite tools, especially for writing, and that is perfectly fine. I know someone who has been a GNU/Linux user and Linux evangelizer for many years, but when he writes his Sci-Fi novels he can’t stand to use anything but MS Word because of the way the little tools and keyboard shortcuts work best for him.

                          I did an entire college degree using OpenOffice, so I’m already very comfortable with it. Probably people who got into Linux distros like me in the late 90’s and early 2000’s will have a lot of muscle memory related to OpenOffice, and people who started using distros after about 2011 would look at it as a pretty weird set of programs with arcane dialog boxes and visual components.

                            Good afternoon wise folks of the forum.
                            Since installing or running live ANY Distro, I found that I can’t drag and drop with my touchpad.
                            In MX Linux I tried the option to use the other “thingy” for a touchpad ??driver??
                            That didn’t work.

                            Here in AntiX, I’m lost not even a clue where I could start looking for making changes. And as keyboard shortcuts don’t work either, I’m forced to used dragging the mouse way more.
                            A little side topic, in MX I could choose a theme with THICK borders, to make changing windows easier. Didn’t find it here either, that’s something I really seem to need as I can’t find the spot with a USB mouse either.

                            For the quick info, I found that
                            sudo inxi -zv7
                            is getting blocked, -b or normal -zv7 don’t get blocked in THIS part of the forum. Normal -zv7 didn’t work in the introduction part of it.

                              Good evening to all,

                              Do you want to put 2 windows horizontally on your screen with 2 quick and intuitive keys in the Fluxbox environment?
                              Do you want to put 2 windows vertically on your screen with 2 quick and intuitive keys in the Fluxbox environment?
                              Then open the attached *.odt file in French.
                              You will also find a translation in English. Sorry for the spelling mistakes, it is not my mother tongue.

                              Best regards,
                              Wallon

                                Hello,

                                I’m sure that Wallon’s tip is a plus compared to the keyboard shortcuts visible under Menu/Settings/Preferences/Keywin.
                                In this menu, certain key combinations allow you to move the active window to different places on the console.
                                But I haven’t found any that reduce the active window by half a screen and move it up, down, left or right.
                                But, I may not have found the right sequence of keys.
                                Anyway, this tip is good.

                                However, be careful, on the keyboard I use (packard bell easy notemz35 : https://lebonclavier.fr/packard-bell-easynote/4192-Clavier-Packard-Bell-EasyNote-MZ35-Francais-Azerty.html), you have to press several keys other than logo + (right, left, up or down), but when you have found the right keys, it is effective.

                                Bravo Wallon and thank you.

                                ===================in french, my native language================
                                Bonjour,

                                a priori, l’astuce de Wallon apporte un plus par rapport aux raccourcis clavier visibles sous Menu/RĂ©glages/PrĂ©fĂ©rences/Keywin.
                                Dans ce menu, certaines combinaisons de touches permettent en effet de dĂ©placer la fenĂȘtre active en diffĂ©rents endroits de la console.
                                Mais je n’en ai pas trouvĂ©e qui rĂ©duise la fenĂȘtre active d’un demi Ă©cran et la dĂ©place en haut, en bas, Ă  gauche ou Ă  droite.
                                Mais, j’ai pu ne pas trouver la bonne sĂ©quence de touches.
                                En tout cas, cette astuce est bonne.

                                Cependant, attention, sur le clavier que j’utilise (portable packard bell easynote mz35 : https://lebonclavier.fr/packard-bell-easynote/4192-Clavier-Packard-Bell-EasyNote-MZ35-Francais-Azerty.html), il faut appuyer sur plusieurs touches autres que logo + (droite, gauche, haut ou bas), mais lorsqu’on a trouvĂ© les bonnes touches, c’est efficace.

                                Bravo Wallon et merci.

                                Vive antiX !
                                Vive le Groland !

                                  Dear users,

                                  You will find in the *.odt file, the procedure to place 2 applications either vertically or horizontally on the same screen with keyboard shortcuts.

                                  Best regards,
                                  Wallon
