Do this command to restore connman as before
sudo rm /etc/default/connman sudo service connman restartantiX does not use systemd, so the command for services are without dots. They are as I posted them, exactly as they were posted.
links2 is already installed. Run in terminal
links2
and press the Escape key to show the top menus. F1 key to display helps (will tell you the keyboard shortcuts). “g” key to enter a http path. etc.Included in antiX there is also elinks.
Regarding the browser issue:
inxi -Cx | grep “flags” resulted in flags: pae bogomips: 1402Your CPU does not support sse, so no modern GUI browser that I know of will run on the PC, unfortunately. I don’t know if dillo supports it (also installed in linux)

I have noticed that when I have a pulldown menu open in the browser, for example, many other keys don’t work.
iceWM?
Could this be a symptom / byproduct of enabling “sloppy mouse focus” or “quiet sloppy focus” ?Hmmm, no collisions are apparent from a quick check of antiX19 /etc/skel/.icewm/keys

It’s always advisable, instead of posting a question on the forum as soon as a question/problem pops up, first read the sticky posts and antix’s wiki (link on the top of th forum’s page, anticapitalista put it there for a reason) and if nothing solves your problem, do a web search, then post a question here…
In your case, you didn’t even have to wait for an answer to your original question, if you tried the wiki: https://antixlinuxfan.miraheze.org/wiki/Herbstluftwm (and scroll down to the “basics”).
For eveything else, please do read the documentation skidoo pointed out- probably no one is going to read it for you to explain everything to you. Maybe if someone is a herb user may want to save you the work…
Tilling window managers are very efficient but you have to be willing to learn a lot of new things (mainly keyboard shortcuts)- if you don’t read the documentation, you’ll probably end up here asking variations on your original question (how do I do xyz?) time and time again…P.
EDIT: I didn’t want to sound like I was saying read the (…hum… damn) manual- but at least learn some basics.
You wanted to try antix- good! You went a step further and wanted to try herb? Good. You did that without even knowing that herb is a tilling window manager and how tilling window managers work? Not so good.
Watch a couple of youtube videos on the subject, then read the wiki/ Herb’s antiX’s help document/ the official documentation, etc. Do, at least make an effort. Your question about the size of the windows, to me, makes me think that you are not even aware what a tilling window manager is, in the first place! That’s not a problem: most computer users don’t know what that is. The problem is trying one out without really knowing what it is…I may offer a kind of half way, so you get into the right frame of mind that allows you to beneficent from using a tilling window manager- use icewm’s (the default antiX desktop) pseudo tilling keyboard shortcuts (to learn more on them: Menu > Control Centre > Edit… Icewm > “keys” tab- read the the file until you reach the keys about changing the window’s size)- that’s “pseudo window tilling” because you are not using a pre set way to arrange your windows (like a window tiller does) but choosing how to arrange your open windows yourself, without having to resize every one of them using the mouse (this psedo tilling is great and is fast, but it only works to 4 open windows, each occupying a quarter of the screen)

@All – It sometimes looks like threads here end going some unexpected places… I made the original post as both a criticism to the DW review and as a way to try to help both that reviewer and anyone else with similar problems… and it ended up also being a place to talk about where antiX usability is and where it’s going… What a nice surprise!
I do agree that out of the box, the first layer of the menu has too much going on (@Marcelo- that’s what people generally mean when they say antiX’s menu is too crowded, not that it has too many entries on all the submenus). That is partly solved with grouping all icewm first layer menu itens into a single menu ( we now get 1 first layer entry instead of 3 – but in my option it should be more clear and say “icewm configuration/settings”)… I’ve always said that the refresh/update menu entry should be inside the applications sub-menu instead the first layer, saving a first layer line and placing right where it’s logical it should be.
I do like – and it’s a general UI practice- that the most common apps are accessible right from the first menu layer- but they would, in my opinion look better all grouped together, without any separator between them… “Recent files” is also a usual first layer menu entry… as is “run” and “exit”… “Kill” (a running app) also is handy from the first menu layer- since most users don’t really are into keyboard shortcuts…
My default (fluxbox) first layer of the menu is a bit strange, but, also in my opinion a nice cross between simplicity and having almost everything a user can need in a daily basis- it has 3 “sections”, divided by separators:
1- App-select (or rofi)- as “search for apps”, and “recent documents”;
2- All the default apps you can choose from control centre (with their generic names, like “text editor”, “web browser”, etc) plus the calculator and word processor, in alphabetical order
3- “All applications” menu (that includes the refresh menu entry), “run”, “kill a window”, “Control centre”, WM (fluxbox, in my case) settings and “exit”. [Change desktop should probably be in this section, but I moved it to “All applications”, like toggle on/off conky- I could even remove that, in my particular case, because mine is always off].Also, all menu entrie’s icons are gray, except the ones on the second section and “exit”- so users can quicky see what are apps and what is OS’s related stuff (I used only default icons, provided out of the box for this)
This leaves me with 18 lines of first layer menu entries, plus 2 separators… Many people could consider this bloat…
I don’t currently use desktop icons, but I do get their appeal, I used them for many years- and I do understand that the majority of Linux that come from others OS’s (even other Linux distros) find it counter intuitive- but hey… you are running an OS that run on about 100 meg of RAM, while most other distros, even “lighter” distros run on at least more than double of that- you must be aware that you lose a bit of “costumer service” when you shed all that extra resource usage- so skimming the fixed threads on the forum in order to learn who to do stuff that was much easier on other OS’s (and almost none force you to use the terminal) is not a high price to pay for all this lightness.
When I see DW users commenting stuff like “why don’t you have that wi-fi thingy to select why wi-fi networks, like MX, *butu, etc have?)- well, it’s there, but turned off by default to save resources- isn’t antiX’s low resource usage the reason most people begin using it? (But even that seems to be a already solved problem- since antiX is getting the connection manager to automatically fire up if the OS does not connect to a network- how cool is the Dev team?)

The MX version was interesting because it did one prompt before the shot to define how to thake it, then a 2nd prompt after to decide what to do with it. Using that methodology, my version wouldn’t need the MTPaint action list, which does not get translated. The dialog box does get translated, so that is a big advantage.
Anyway, without the newer MTPaint, it is not nice how I needed to use xdotool running keyboard shortcuts to get MTPaint setup to do annotation easily.
There are many ways to do things. None is necessarily right or wrong, but the overall feel and ease of getting good results for anyone are the things I look for.
It looks to me like there isn’t much interest in this feature for the distro, so I’ll just bow out unless my help is wanted.

What worked here for me
Edit as root the file /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/kazam/backend/config.pyChange the part for the keyboard shortcuts, oddly enough, the super(Window) button is not listed there,so change every Shift to Super
{"name": "keyboard_shortcuts", "keys": {"pause": "<Super><Control>p", "finish": "<Super><Control>f", "show": "<Super><Control>s", "quit": "<Super><Control>q", },Afterwards it’s working here with this key combination, Window-Control-p, you might have to press the p key twice.
Edit:Just seen yo figured it out, nice

Hi again,
Sorry. I got this figured out. There is a configuration file in ~/.config/kazam which allows me to modify the keyboard shortcuts.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Hi
,the ~/.icewm/keys file no longer works therefore all my keyboard shortcuts no longer function. When using the file manager as I do to view them the keys icon has changed from orange to black this coincides with the inoperability of the shortcuts. Has anyone any suggestions, many thanks.- This topic was modified 2 years, 1 month ago by BobC.

but didn’t mention whether he was aware of the recently released (v3.5+) version of mtpaint.————

I tried badwolf again but it went black again. Same with surf.
If you are interested, I got a better experience with Surf by building the latest git version instead of using the Debian version (which is over 2 years out of date). Needs some dependencies, I think this is the list: build-essential git webkit2gtk-driver libgtk-3-dev libgcr-3-dev libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev
Then –
git clone https://git.suckless.org/surf
cd surf
make clean installStart it with ‘surf antixlinux.com’ or whatever website. Keyboard shortcuts are at ‘man surf’. Website is here: https://surf.suckless.org/
Probably best if you remove the Debian version first. It still wasn’t perfect, for example I could play a youtube video but could not fast forward it without crashing the browser. But most stuff worked.
Edit – fixed the youtube video fast forward problem by installing the gstreamer1.0-gl package.

Gnome Web is not taking up 1300 MB of RAM when opening antixlinux.com and playing the embedded youtube video. It takes only 187 MB for me. While surf takes 97 MB. The difference is 90 MB, not 1100 MB.
Gnome Web can play back youtube videos on youtube.com while consuming only 262 MB. When antiX Linux boots up, it consumes 133 MB, so in total this means 395 MB of used RAM.
I’ve done my testings at 144p. Because even in case of this small resolution, there were frame drops. Audio was perfect though.
Andyprough, you should run your tests again, something was went wrong very likely.
I’ll take your word for it. I was running it on an 11 year old laptop with x64, and those were literally the numbers I got. I did not have a 32-bit system to try. I’ll take your word for it, you have the correct equipment to test it with. If it works with low resources as you say it does, then it probably would be a good graphical option for non-SSE2.
Surf consumes 90 MB less, but it is so bare-bones that it is barely usable, especially if the user is not a power-user.
It took me a couple of minutes of reading the man page to figure out the keyboard shortcuts for Surf. Certainly no more difficult than figuring out how to run links2 or elinks. I still think Surf would be the better option, as even 90mb of ram can make a significant difference for an old system. By the way, I did not see any ads while using Surf. I haven’t delved deeper yet to determine if the version of Surf I installed has the adblock lists built in, but it acted like it did.
Update – the lack of ads must have been because of the websites I visited yesterday. This morning I do get ads with Surf, so I don’t think the adblock list is built in. I’ll try adding the adblock list and see if it works well and if it reduces or increases the resource usage.

Best regards,
WallonHi
,the ~/.icewm/keys file no longer works therefore all my keyboard shortcuts no longer function. When using the file manager as I do to view them the keys icon has changed from orange to black this coincides with the inoperability of the shortcuts. Has anyone any suggestions, many thanks.- This topic was modified 2 years, 1 month ago by BobC.
