If that works, go for it as long as it’s usable! Good idea.
this is not a working solution since my mobile contract has no data flat
Sorry that Internet access is limited. More than once I have read about efforts to make Internet more readily available.
Apparently it’s more words than action.

Here, in the USA it is not blocked. As I am in Poland now I want to confirm that apparently Poland conforms to the EU order to completely block rt, thus isolating citizens of EU from any the enemy side of information, not allowing EU citizens to evaluate relations on their own. Apparently the EU government knows better what information EU citizens should be exposed to. That reminds me of the ever wise government control over media and information dissemination that we experienced during the times our countries were a part of the socialist East Europe, carefully overseen by the Soviet Union…
Interestingly, when in Copenhagen, Denmark, which is a part of Schengen, such blocking was not there…

Taking olsztyn’s recommendation I resurrected a disused 802.11 Thomson router/switch, connected it by ethernet cable to the 4100N printer, disconnected the usb cable and centronics parallel adapter that I use for cable connection, and went through the suggested routine to add a new printer, using the control centre hardware facility, print settings/add.
This presents a list of optional ways of introducing the printer, due to lack of experience I chose the last in the list, marked AppSocket/Hp Jetdirect. Not being sure how to name the requested entity host, I entered the name of the wlan0 generated by the mentioned router/switch, which I have already set to be the same as my domestic household network. This wlan exists and I have connected to it from the laptop I am using.
The add printer routine then requests a driver and presents a database of printer makers and types from which I selected HP and 4100n. The driver was apparently found and installed (from where I am not sure as I was not connected to the internet, but maybe it already exists in the linux system libraries), and I was then invited to print a test page, which as expected became a job in the printer job queue, and was shown there as processing.
No activity was seen on the 4100n mini-screen, where jobs are reported as pending or processing before printing. The page is never printed, and the printer is reported as not responding.
I have also looked into describing the new printer under the Internet Printing Protocol (ipp) protocol and declaring the IP address as 192.168.1.11 (as per the HP documentation for this printer) but am stuck for the requested server host name, the process objects to whatever I put in this box.
Any guidance you can offer will be gratefully received.
I show the Network Assistant view of the setup I am trying to get working.

Dear Wallon
Thanks for sharing your configuration!
Don’t be sad for several of your ideas not being used by the Dev team (either antiX or it’s apps):
Many of my ideas where refused, some of them were implemented after years! The fact that you complained about antiX-updater not working in French did lead me finding out what the problem was (and it was not exactly what I initially thought), and also, probably also, your localizations will make sure that some scripts localized in French will work correctly.
Some of your ideas were greatly appreciated- like the way to highlight the mouse pointer, etc. The fact that an idea is not made part of antiX does not mean it’s not good – many of my scripts were not included in antiX.
The fact that you are not a programmer (I’m not also a “programmer”, I’m an amateur scripter) sometimes stops you from realizing why some times your suggestions are not implemented. From what I recall reading, your suggestion about a font was refused by anticapitalista because it’s not currently open source – it makes sense that antiX shies away from using anything that is not open source- we simply can’t afford being sued by the person/company that is the owned of that particular resource.Also- on reporting problems, bugs – I’ve been reporting for years that I had to use sudo to refresh the menu. Nothing was ever done about it because the dev team could not reproduce the problem… Now that bug is apparently solved… Programmers can only solve a problem if they can reproduce it. That happens to me a lot (either from the end user vew point or as “programmer”). If enough people report a bug for enough times, odds are that someone will find out what’s wrong and solve the problem.

Like Mr Masinick said, not all ideas are good for everyone 🙁
That is way sharing them on-line can be helpful, often people instantly see problems that are not apparent to the person that initially had the idea…
I do love links2, and I can use it for ready the help files better than I can antix-viewer (that, at least does render frames, which links2 can’t do correctly).
For those wanting to test my idea I suggest trying some of links2 options. Ex:xlinks2 -html-break-long-lines 1 /usr/share/antiX/FAQ/index.htmlAnd I also found odd that it’s the single program I remember seeing that has no toolbar icon… That I can’t solve… and it can be problematic

Hi Punranger, thank you for responding so quickly.
Re kernel alternatives — no I haven’t, but only because you’re already over my head with that, a little: I’m pretty experienced with Linux in general, and on a range of distros, but I have always “swerved” ‘messing with kernels’ as I’ve always assumed that would take me into deep territory I’m not familiar with and would soon break something.
**BUT am happy to try it if you can describe how to do it ? By all means please tell me the commands. [ As I mentoned I have Antix 19 on hand on same machine, in case relevant.]
Re you mentioning experts, any mouse-driver specialist wisdom would also be appreciated — some of the debate in that ARCH forum I mentioned, had very knowledgeable types seeming to be using obscure commands to read real-time event logs of the mouse drivers and the like so see what they’re doing.. quite deep stuff. I don’t know if all distrols handle mice the same way, or if kernel differences can mean whole different driver setups. There seemed to be talk there of default drivers or overriding installer drivers etc and config associated, but as I said they aborted the dialogue before it was resolved. Sounded V similar to what I’m seeing.
Just to add one bit of detail – at the heart of this effect, seems to be a “lag on mouse command”, in that as well as mouse movement variability, I find the left-click always seems to contain a small but significant, DELAY: if I click to (for example) put cursor on a given row of a document – it will always go there, but about ~~ 0.8 sec AFTER I click, not when I click. It’s so consistent that I’ve now started to autoadjust to it an instinctively “wait a moment” after such a moment before typing. SAME, when clicking to move focus – to move from a Console window to an application window for example. And all this happens on a nice fast i5 (which if i reboot to Antix 19 is PERFECT).
IN THE MEANWHILE – output from the command you mentioned – thank you for that I’ve not met that command before..:

ntpsec is a more secure version of ntp.
Should it be turned off by default on live medium?
All logging will be turned off on runit editions.I came to conclusion that chrony is a superior choice for antiX vs. ntpsec, if you need such service at all…
Scenario: antiX 23 Beta. Not running ntpsec runit service as default:
What puzzled me at first was that after recent update (such as yesterday or today) the original memory footprint unexpectedly grew by some 12M, without apparent reason. That indicated to me either a bug in some updated component or unexpected system config change. I identified the culprit, namely the new tzdata, ver 2023c-2. Upgrade of this component entailed start of ntpsec – ntpd daemon, which caused memory footprint to jump by some 12M.
Resolution:
– Either turn off and disable ntpsec runit service
– Or purge completely ntpsec* from the system and install chrony.
In my experience chrony is using just a small fraction of memory footprint (just about 2M) and seems much more efficient, faster and more resilient to network issues in real operation, being more modern design.
Just my opinion…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

Thank you, Brian. Some ones that I’ve not reviewed.
Yeah, I have had that site bookmarked for a long time and I’ve still managed to miss quite a few of those handy tools.
In days past, I probably would have rushed out or stayed up half the night to install and test many of them, but at this point in my life I’ll probably only try one or a few of them if I actually have a need, but I’d like to at least mention ONE app that I spotted during my time on their site today.
It’s called NeoMutt. That interested me right away, because Mutt is a classic Email client that is STILL maintained; see http://www.mutt.org/ for details. It’s not super fancy, but it is incredibly powerful AND fast, and I was surprised to find that it’s been recently updated: “Mutt 2.2.10 was released on March 25, 2023.”
https://neomutt.org/ — “What is NeoMutt?
NeoMutt is a command line mail reader based on Mutt.
It’s versatile and highly configurable.
It has lots of new features which come with documentation and sample config files.”
Apparently Neo Mutt DID get the attention of the Mutt crew and now both seem to be actively maintained!
Here’s more: “Why?
Reduce duplication
Get patches in a state to be accepted upstreamMany hundreds of Mutt users have taken the time to patch Mutt to add features. Unfortunately, it’s usually the same patches as everyone else and effort is wasted.”
https://neomutt.org/guide/intro
“NeoMutt is a small but very powerful text-based MIME mail client. NeoMutt is highly configurable, and is well suited to the mail power user with advanced features like key bindings, keyboard macros, mail threading, regular expression searches and a powerful pattern matching language for selecting groups of messages.”
I’m telling you guys right now, if you happen to be on the geek side of things and you want a powerful Email client; well, if you use Webmail it’s probably not necessary, but if you use a local Email client I guarantee you that Mutt or NeoMutt will be faster than Thunderbird or SeaMonkey mail, or Evolution, or even Claws.
You may have to put a bit more into it if you want to have attachments, rich text and other stuff, but the time spent will be worth it; I’ve used Mutt in the past and it was definitely FAST at a time when computers had a fraction of the speed and capabilities of what we have now.
That said, if all you use is Gmail or Yahoo Mail like I do now, importing them into Mutt or NeoMutt may not be worth your time unless you are much more of a geek than I am!

Regarding the pestering bit: My wife is the nicest, friendliest person I ever met. That is obviously good for me, but it has its drawbacks. And almost since I the day I met her, I noticed that other people pick up on the quality super fast. So fast, in fact, that beggars and drunks pick up on it as we’re walking down the street. She meets everyone with a smile, it may be as simple as that. I don’t know for sure, but it may be that other people see her as an easy target for exploitation. She of course gets tired of people trying to exploit her. She’s a very intelligent woman, fortunately. The strange thing is that she has kept her friendly quality through all our years together. I don’t know, it may be genetic. I think I may have to ask her how she’s able to deal with this.
From my point of view, it’s apparent that any way of interacting socially with the world has its pros and cons. In the case of my wife, I’ve noticed that for every person that tries to exploit her, there’s another one who is equally nice to her. For example, if the car needs a mechanic, it’s a very bad idea for me to go. When she goes, the bill is always half of what it would be if I went, and it’s ready twice as fast. She also has friends that will help her out in any circumstance. (I on the other hand, barely have any.)
I guess it comes down to weighing your options. If you can’t help being nice, weigh the pros and cons. The only thing you can do is to manage the situations you put yourself in. That may seems a cynical thing to do. But suffering from pestering all the time is not very healthy. Good luck!

Just for curiosity: What is the output of the “full pc information” from control center’s hardware section (or the respective inxi console output) for the device you try running antiX on?
well, full pc information will not give you any clues on what and where the actual bug is, the very same laptop had antix 19 stable running with same connman issue, and as it was told by developments this bug will be fixed in next release, so apparently it is not…

Pulseaudio was installed and removed, some time back. But apparently, it was not “completely removed”
This is what I have always experienced from pulseaudio. You simply can’t get rid of all its changes and modifications completely, once it was installed on a system. You will never know whether where something of its changes still is hidden.
I tried almost everything that was suggested. So, it is possible that the true cure was not identified.
Exactly this was what I also experienced after once having pulseaudio installed and removed again. It took me hours, and I ended up with reinstalling antiX after having made sound working halfways again.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.
