Just wondering, is synaptic set to install recommends? (Debian, but not antiX default)
I do not know where such setting would be for synaptic, whether to install recommends. At least I do not see such in Synaptic.
One way or the other it looks to me recommends are being installed. This rtkit must have been installed alongside when installing pulseaudio.Just to mention further testing results:
I have permanently purged rtkit on one of my laptops and followed with today’s upgrade. In result the libelogind0 was not installed, just the five packages upgraded.
Have played many pieces of music, mostly the ones I am very familiar with, such as Grup Yorum, so I can listen to details of familiar sounds. I did detect any audio artifacts or distortions with rtkit removed.
Reading more on the web, it appears that the role of rtkit is questionable according to some reports. Some say it fixes some crackling while some others claim it actually causes some crackling on occasions.So far it looks to me rtkit can be safely purged. Those users who have pulseaudio installed apparently have rtkit, which suddenly requires libelogind0 to be installed and this goes against antiX strategy, the way I understand it is. VLC does by default install libelogind0 for no reason at all, but as I understand it has been modified to not do such thing, not sure of this, as I do not have it installed…

Identified:
libelogind0 appears to be required by rtkit. Turning off installation of libelogind0 entails removing rtkit.
Can rtkit be removed without adverse impact? It is antiX 21 Runit. Fully upgraded yesterday.

What does /var/log/apt/history.log or /var/log/apt/term.log show?
Both appear to be empty.

And just to further clarify using “nitter” to view twitter without JS. Follow a link to twitter, hit “shift-g” to edit the current url, and change twitter.com to nitter.net, leaving the rest of the url intact. Same with reddit.com links, but change to teddit.net.
Yes, I use nitter.net instead of twitter, teddit.net instead of reddit. There’s also wikiless.org instead of en.wikipedia.org url’s, for a simpler, more private wikipedia experience. And I use yewtu.be instead of youtube.com links, and then copy the video link and watch it in mpv.
I’m going to add a couple of more of these privacy focused alternative “redirect” websites I’ve found. Today I found out that there’s an imgur.com redirect website, imgin.voidnet.tech. Just insert that into the url for any link to a picture on imgur and you’ll get the privacy redirected page for the image. Also apparently there’s Bibliogram.art for Instagram posts, although I’ve never used either. But, just figured I’d put them all in this one overview post. Most, if not all of these redirect websites, use fewer resources to show the content than the original sites.

Big update: It works!! Doing the reinstall and repair from the live usb worked!
I will now try to explain all I did that worked. I dont know if some steps are skippable but I’ll explain everything that did work.
1-Downloaded antix21 base 32bits iso.
2-I used a virtual machine to create a live usb.
3-Rename the file /boot/syslinux/gfx-cpio to /boot/syslinux/gfx-cpio.xxx to convert the boot option into simple text.
(3.5-Optional. Make a full installation in a separate usb and copy the Live files from the live usb into the fully installed usb. That will copy the installer to the full installation. It didnt help me much but it could help others)
4-Open terminal in live usb and do sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade. Also sudo apt install antix-installer installer-data-antix
5-I took the ssd out of the laptop, placed it in an usb enclosure to use other pc to wipe it and format it as ext4.
6-I the used other different pc from the same era, a Athlon classic 1000mhz cpu desktop. Unplugged all other hard drives and connected the usb enclosure to it.
7-Using the live usb installer I managed to install antix. Default install using all the drive, installed grub to mbr.
8-I placed the ssd back to the laptop turned it on to see the grub rescue.
9-In grub rescue I typed:
“ls”
“ls (hd0,msdos1)” this showed me that it is there where antix is installed (as ext2 tho not ext4 I dont know why). But it could be elsewhere for other people.
“set root=(hd0,msdos1)”
“set prefix=(hd0,msdos1)/boot/grub”
——-
“insmod normal” and then “normal” would have been the way but it gave me this error: “attempt to read or write outside of disk ‘hd0” this may not happen to other people tho.
10-I plugged the live usb into the laptop, used plop boot manager cd to boot using the usb. (Remember to take out the cd as soon as antix starts booting)
11-Used the repair boot option and did both reinstall grub and repair grub.
12-Took the usb out and voila it worked!Now I have to check if everythings works fine, update and stuff.
Thanks everyone we have done it! I couldnt have done it without your help, I deeply appreciate it. I will let everyone know if any problem comes up. But I think everything else will go just fine. Thank you! 🙂

Just before antiX boots to desktop, there is a brief flash of broken-image screen, so it is possible that the video driver is failing, and antiX is reverting to Safe Video Mode before showing desktop. The youtube video in question is also choppy when antiX is booted in Safe Video Mode. I looked at my other Linux OS frugal install, and find the same driver is installed, with no problems. Apparently, I can’t play a mp4 video file from ROX as root. Why is that?

By a combination of two factors.
One, I’ve switched over to Xfce and kinda like it. Two, someone had me add this to my xorg.conf:

Computer is much, MUCH smoother now. <3 you, Debian.I switched to JWM, but the video streamed from YouTube is still choppy, so I want to edit xorg.conf as described above. Problem is, nothing looks familiar in usr/share/X11/xorg.config.d Where is xorg.config in the file system?

antiX ≠ Debian
Votre preuve de l’installe réussie se fait dans cette capture d’écran avec la fléché rouge qui montre qu’il faut ouvrir ce fichier. Apparemment c’est dans ce fichier que pourrait être installé dans sa partition créée bento antix ?
Ce n’est pas une preuve, c’est pour vous montrer comment faire pour lancer l’éditeur de partitions Gparted. Et ce n’est pas un fichier, c’est un lanceur : pour lancer Gparted.
Vous avez vu que lorsqu’on lance l’installeur il ne demande pas de mot de passe. Quand vous cliquez sur ce bouton, vous lancerez Gparted sans qu’un mot de passe vous soit demandé. Essayez avant de questionner ?
Pour qu’enfin cet OS sera installé a sa place et pourra être lancé au restart de ma tour Medion de 11 ans d’age !

J’ai testé et tenter de l’installer avec un CD-DVD gravure de bento antix reéchec et aussi avec la clé USB dans laquelle se trouve bento antix idem pour l’échec avec un fenêtre ou l’on voit 4/5 options dont des sda et sdb?? Je suppose que c’est dans et options avec cette fenêtre que devrait être installé bento antix ?
Êtes-vous sûr que votre lecteur CD/DVD lit les CD correctement ou même que votre CD a été gravé correctement ? Avec quel logiciel l’avez-vous gravé ? À quelle vitesse ?
Avec quoi avez-vous préparé votre clé USB ? Êtes-vous sûr que votre port USB est en bon état, que les données passent correctement ? À quel stade rencontrez-vous un échec ? À quoi ressemble l’erreur ?
Pour ce qui est de debian, mais avant, avec les versions Debian 7,8,9 et aujourd’hui j’ai plusieurs OSs basés sur Debian 10 buster et Debian 11 bulleye dont celle ci: que j’ai nommé “cacatoes” qui est l’OS Q4OS 64bits KDE plasma5 .
Étant le seul utilisateur de ma machine, je ne me vois pas être obligé de rester avec la nomination correcte de chaque installation…
C’est pourquoi je vais moi-même interrompre ces tentatives d’installes de bento antix avec splendide échecs , en remerciant les aides temporaires 😉Les installeurs de Debian, de Ubuntu, et de antiX ne sont pas les même, de même que ceux d’autres distributions sont encore différents. Si vous essayez Fedora, CentOS, Mageïa, vous aurez des chances de voir un installeur qui se ressemble de l’une à autre, mais qui ne ressemble pas du tout à ceux de Debian and co.

Arch is awesome. But I don’t install packages from AUR unless I absolutely must. In the past, that meant about 5-8 packages. When in Debian I also use deb-multimedia, in MX I don’t need deb-multimedia. Either way, Vanilla Debian/MX/Antix and Arch/EndeavourOS are my 2 favourite distros . Only Ubuntu-based distro that I like is KDE Neon. But PPA ecosystem is even more of a security risk.

On a side note, do the md5 and sha256 of the downloaded iso change if I move it from it’s original download location (eg /home/user/Downloads) to somewhere else (eg my flashdrive or another partition on the hard drive) ? I’m asking because I think it’s changed. File corrupted during the move?
Second side note, if I download the iso from the U.S., would it have the same md5 and sha256 as the one from another location, say U.K.?
– update on secode side note. i checked. apparently the md5 and sha256 are the same no matter where you download it from.
– however, why are there two versions of the antiX here: https://antixlinux.com/download/

As far as the transformation pack goes, I agree!
What bothers me a bit is that unsuspecting, unknowing users *think* that some pre-packaged version of Windows – or the even more expensive Apple products, which actually use a LOT of “freely available” core software, then put their PROPRIETARY stuff OVER it, and charge a LOT of money for it, using marketing to convince people that it is somehow *better* – I dispute those claims.
Just this afternoon my next door neighbor was sitting in a common area at the end of our floor with an iPod in her hands that had some HUGE fonts consuming the entire screen, and she had NO IDEA how to change it! She asked me if I knew how. Well, I didn’t, not off the top of my head. I could have researched what the Cmd, Ctrl and other keys on the bottom left side of her keyboard could do to help me get to some “commands” or I could have researched something here, but why bother researching and learning something expensive that I never (especially as a retiree) want to use myself?
She and another person were planning on getting together; apparently they both use Apple products; she was hoping the other person knew something about this; otherwise they’d go to “the Apple Store” and get help.
So much for hardware and software that is allegedly *better*, easier to use, blah, blah, blah! They’ve been sold a bill of goods, that’s for sure.
I’m on an old laptop that works as good or better than the stuff they are using, thanks to efficient, clean, and freely available software. It may not be 100% perfect, but it’s pretty darn good, it keeps my older systems running well and it’s affordable on my limited retirement budget!--

I understand that the usrmerge package is to be run once by using one apt command to install it and purge it.
I don’t plan to install it at this time.
I think the warning is because the usrmerge package is available in the repositories. Apparently, usrmerge is supposesed to symlink /bin, /lib and /sbin to /usr/bin, /usr/lib and /usr/sbin.
In my system without usrmerge (unless it was automatically used and purged as noted above), these symlinks exist.
So, I have to question if usrmerge is needed or if the current installs of antiX automagically make these symlinks correctly.
Hopefully, someone who knows will respond.

Bonjour.
La première partie de la recommandation de madibi fonctionne sur n’importe quel système, même Windows – vérifiez que votre ordinateur n’a pas un bouton qui active/désactive le bluetooth.
Blueman est le programme qui gère les connexions bluetooth. Ce programme (ou un autre ayant les mêmes fonctions) doit être installé sur votre ordinateur pour pouvoir se connecter aux appareils Bluetooth.
Si vous ne savez pas comment installer des applications sous linux/antiX, veuillez lire les entrées du forum qui expliquent comment faire…Ex: Pour installer blueman (et dependencies)
