      Caro Spartak77,

      Meilleures salutations,
      Wallon (de Belgique)

        Thanks for the feedback, @bunkbail and @pierro78

        (it could not get packages from an “ftp sthing fr” repository … but it was apparently only antixlinux helper packages)

        Some mirrors are having problems. Would you mind using the repo manager (Control Centre > Software > repo manager) to switch to a different antiX mirro and then again run the antiX updater? Hopefully this is only a problem with the mirror that was assigned to you at boot. Let us know if a different mirror worked for you.

            antiX base doesn’t come with cups support by default (to reduce ISO space).
            The printer button in CC comes from the system-config-printer package
            sudo apt install system-config-printer

            On antiX 19.4 full, the printer related packages (I have found) installed are:

            cups-bsd
            cups-client
            cups-common
            cups-core-drivers

              XFCE on MX, it feels very slow on identical hardware compared to ice on antiX, tiling seemed no real advantage as
              setup to start applications on dedicated desktops with window size and position fixed, just move between desktops. Even on my wimpy netbook that works fine.
              Fluxbox is very good and highly extensible, speed stability and memory usage about the same as ice. Different so swings and roundabouts as to which to use.

              In my opinion XFCE does not provide any material advantage over IceWM the way IceWM is implemented in antiX, just on the contrary. XFCE is way heavier and slower and no material benefits to offer. I am not even touching on other bloated desktops.
              It is disappointing that after so many years Linux continues to be stagnant in sticking to a few bloated old DEs, with no visible effort to design really functional and slim ones. DE should not in itself the goal of Linux system’s existence. They are currently designed for the look and to lock users into their selfish way. Everything else, such as functionality and performance does not matter in the minds of developers of these DEs.
              It should be the other way round – the purpose of DE should be purely functionality, an enabler of system’s usefulness.
              WMs as implemented in antiX, are serving such fundamental purpose much better.
              A challenge though is keeping these useful WMs such as IceWM or Fluxbox actually working in a stable and rock solid reliable, keeping pace in constantly evolving Linux environment.
              Their vulnerability to programs and themes should be a concern seriously taken into account. Such as drop-down menus no longer working on Chrome/Chromium in IceWM and Fluxbox after recent updates can be attributed to themes but so far no thoughts offered why the same themes work perfectly with drop-down menus in tiled WMs, such as JWM, DWM and Herbstluftwm.
              Considering the apparent lack of any significant development effort to keep these light WMs rock solid and reliable with changing Linux landscape I learned the hard way – to test thoroughly every update before you commit to it with your ‘production’ system…
              Just MHO…

                Hello all

                Some actions are to be taken still, I didn’t have time to write this morning more detailed.

                1.) Please check somebody the translation files coming back »for use« now from transifex in the test scenario anticapitalista has described above. I couldn’t perform this testing these days. The old machine I’m working on right now doesn’t have installed virtualbox since I’ve switched it to antiX 19 anymore, and it would be a big battle to make virtualbox run again under antiX 19 on this 32 bit single core probably. This took some days on antiX 17.4.1 I remember (but after this it worked perfectly), and I have right now not the time for this to do. So I restructured the file manually on a theoretical base, following the xhtml design rules. So please somebody else may step in now and prove the new xhtml files are functioning in real life.

                2.) No file is blocked for downloading.

                Apparently, Robin blocked the possibility of downloading the file “for_use_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”,

                If a file is not downloadable from transifex this means, there are some severe errors in the translations. I was late this morning and I hadn’t time anymore to check the pt and pt_BR translation after uploading before leaving. As you can see from the attached screenshots there is an error in string 210 in pt language. This prevents you from downloading the file “for use”. Same goes for any other files not downloadable »for use«, e.g. pt_BR. (The translation and download was only blocked for a short period this morning completely during the big move procedure from html to xhtml.) You can see all strings with errors immediately when typing »check:error« in the filters field on the left side of screen (see screenshot).
                /Update:
                Fixed it meanwhile. There were some minor deviations found compared to the original en string text in the translations: entry 143 was missing two quotes within an html tag in pt and pt_BR translation, and string 210 was missing one opening arrow of a tag in the translation so it was not recognised anymore. So again: Be carefully to leave any html-tag untouched while translating, and don’t use anything in your translations which could look like part of such a tag. It will probably get misinterpreted by transifex I reckon. Files should be downloadable now for use again. You could have fixed this yourself, if you had known where to look./

                3.) French sprinkles in translations:

                I noticed some French got into the Greek translation – now fixed.

                Sorry for this. It occurred obviously while transferring the strings to the new file format. French happened to be the testing base, the master transfer file for the other languages. So this might have happened in other languages also, please check carefully.

                So far we have fully translated F1 Help in:

                I’ll work on German and hopefully also Russian translation during next week, now after the correct path of file formatting for transifex was paved.

                it has some details that need to be corrected in the original English language file. For example, line 23 is missing the closing ‘]’ of the ‘[Enter’. These details I had corrected and made available via GitLab, but they were with the old HTML code, it wasn’t XHTML

                @marcelocripe , could you please check the new xhtml file anticapitalista has merged already from my request on gitlab for these errors, since you do know best what you have found. Maybe some of your findings are fixed anyway, since I also fixed what I noticed during the transfer process. But without exact knowledge about what to search for it is nearly impossible to find the differences from your corrected version to the new xhtml. You may remember still which paragraphs you have mended. Your mending has to be done again in the new xhtml file format. After this it can re-uploaded at transifex (I always check in our testing space at transifex beforehand whether everything works properly, so no strings already translated will get lost). Sorry Marcelo, there is no other way.

                /Update: Your finding
                »For example, line 23 is missing the closing ‘]’ of the ‘[Enter’.«
                is fixed on transifex and gitlab now. It is entry 23, not line number. It is line 50 in the new xhtml file. Merge request for this is already sent./

                  My thanks to everyone involved for making this achievement possible.

                  Some suggestions and comments:

                  -If the file “for_translation_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml” or is downloaded from “for_use_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, they can be edited locally and Transifex will accept them. Yesterday I did a quick test with the file “for_use_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, I copied and pasted the translations of some sentences and tried to send the file to Transifex, but unfortunately Transifex complained about some entries that I didn’t have modified. Apparently, Robin blocked the possibility of downloading the file “for_use_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, so only the file “for_translation_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml” can be used for local editing (off-BR.xhtml). line) that we do not yet know if it will be accepted by Transifex;

                  -The current text of antix-bootscreen-helpmenu in pt-BR is not complete, it doesn’t have the same content that I sent to the anti-capitalist file with old HTML code. It took me more time to make the texts on the antix-bootscreen-helpmenu the same as the texts I had sent to the anticapitalist;

                  -I intend to do this test, download the file “for_translation_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, make one or two text modifications and try to send the file to Transifex;

                  -Please Robin, check as soon as possible my comments in the personal message I sent you, it has some details that need to be corrected in the original English language file. For example, line 23 is missing the closing ‘]’ of the ‘[Enter’. These details I had corrected and made available via GitLab, but they were with the old HTML code, it wasn’t XHTML;

                  -After these tests and fixes are done, I suggest sending to the official antiX Transifex the antix-bootscreen-helpmenu file, due to the greater range of translators. Or make an announcement on the official antiX Transifex asking translators to participate in antiX contrib.

                  – – – – –

                  Meus agradecimentos a todos os envolvidos para que esta conquista fosse possível.

                  Algumas sugestões e comentários:

                  -Se o arquivo “for_translation_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml” ou for baixado do “for_use_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, poderão ser editados localmente e o Transifex os aceitarão. Ontem eu fiz um teste rápido com o arquivo “for_use_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, copiei e colei as traduções de algumas frases e tentei enviar para o Transifex o arquivo, mas infelizmente o Transifex reclamou de algumas entradas que eu não havia modificado. Ao que parece, o Robin bloqueou a possibilidade de baixar o arquivo “for_use_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, por tanto apenas o arquivo “for_translation_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml” poderá ser utilizado para edição local (off-line) que ainda não sabemos se será aceito pelo Transifex;

                  -O texto atual do antix-bootscreen-helpmenu em pt-BR não está completo, não possui o mesmo conteúdo que eu enviei para o anticapitalista do arquivo com código HTML antigo. Eu precisei de mais tempo para tornar os textos do antix-bootscreen-helpmenu iguais aos textos que eu havia enviado para o anticapitalista;

                  -Eu pretendo fazer este teste, baixar o arquivo “for_translation_antix-contribs_antix-bootscreen-helpmenu_pt_BR.xhtml”, fazer uma ou duas modificações no texto tentar enviar o arquivo para o Transifex;

                  -Por favor, Robin, verifique, assim que for possível os meus comentários na mensagem pessoal que eu te enviei, possui alguns detalhes que precisam ser corrigidos no arquivo original em idioma Inglês. Por exemplo, na linha 23 falta o fechamento ‘]’ do ‘[Enter’. Estes detalhes eu havia corrigido e disponibilizado via GitLab, mas estavam com o código HTML antigo, não era o XHTML;

                  -Depois que estes testes e correções forem feitas, eu sugiro enviar para o Transifex oficial do antiX o aquivo antix-bootscreen-helpmenu, devido ao alcance maior de tradutores. Ou fazer um anúncio no Transifex oficial do antiX pedindo para os tradutores participarem no contrib do antiX.

                    I have been using the beta as my main driver

                    Same here.
                    Just a minor issue resurfaced with the most recent antiX 21 B2 update, the same problem as discussed in https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-19-assessment-summary/#post-29145.
                    Namely, affecting apparently only Chrome/Chromium users only on IceWM:
                    Occasionally, especially soon after boot, clicking on drop-down menus does nothing. No action. Good test site for this is antixforum, where clicking on ‘Recent Posts’ or other drop-down menu items is being ignored on IceWM.
                    Unlike in the past referenced thread (it was fixed then by anticapitalista), this behavior is not too frequent, but once starts (such as after fresh boot) it appears to continue until browser is restarted or session switched out of IceWM to a different desktop, after which it behaves normally.
                    Environment: antiX 21 B2 Runit. Tested this behavior on several different models Thinkpads.
                    Issue is not that important as it affects only Chrome/Chromium users I think, just as in the past thread. Hardly any antiX user is using Chrome or Chromium, after all, right?

                      Hi,

                      the man-page of ‘du’ states:

                      –apparent-size
                      print apparent sizes, rather than disk usage; although the apparent size is usually smaller, it may be larger due to holes
                      in (‘sparse’) files, internal fragmentation, indirect blocks, and the like
                      -b, –bytes
                      equivalent to ‘–apparent-size –block-size=1’

                      The observed discrepancy is indeed/most-likely related to sparse files as I have suggested in my 1st post.

                          The installer does not seem to think that 4 physical partitions are 1 too many. I agree that I always regarded 3 as a maximum,which is why I usually embed them in an extended partition thus allowing further physical partitions. When I tried to run an install using the defaults, allowing the installer to make all the choices for me, it created 4 partitions, 3 of which are correctly formatted for this laptop, and one which was apparently not formatted, but which I guess was intended for linux swap.

                          I can now get nowhere with 19.4 on this laptop despite it having run 17.4 for over 2 years after a relatively event-free install.

                          Any suggestions or comments will be gratefully received.

                            ‘-k’ = 1K-units, i.e. the default units printed by ‘du’ are 1K.
                            See no problem there.
                            Did you mix up the units?

                            Originally, I thought it could be related to “sparse file(s)” with “holes in it(/them)”, see e.g. this or that link.

                            PS: Slightly differing sizes of files (base 2^10 = 1024 vs. 10^3 = 1000) were discussed in the forum elsewhere.

                              Hi Wallon,
                              No offense on my side either, i just wish racism, prejudice and lack of opportunity would not be glossed over

                              Microsoft and google are trying to wriggle out of responsibility for their internal problems.

                                Thanks for the tips! It didn’t work straight away. But in the forum I saw that someone reinstalled Opera and then it worked properly again. So I uninstalled Opera and also deleted the two folders in home and usr. Then downloaded the package from the website and tried to install with GDebi. It reports that 50 packages need to be uninstalled, for example blueman and bleutooth. Apparently there is a conflict? Maybe not entirely unintentionally. After all, Opera is no longer in the antiX Package Installer. It’s a shame, because Opera runs significantly faster with less RAM than other browsers. I also had a second installation of antiX on a logical partition. I hadn’t used this installation to work. And Opera is running fine there, with videos. Is there an “action” against Opera because it does not have the “free license”?

                                  And one other thing. There has been a problem with Opera and Videos for a while now. Apparently it is about HTML5 and libffmpeg.so. It worked until a few days ago. Then there were websites that crashed. I then ran some instructions from the Internet to copy this libffmpeg.so into the Opera directory. It had the effect that the websites no longer crashed, but the videos gave an error saying they couldn’t be played. Ok, if anyone has a solution, I’ll be happy.

                                  No movement from opera’s side, but people have started to move.

                                  The solution I tried (second link in that reply https://github.com/Ld-Hagen/fix-opera-linux-ffmpeg-widevine)

                                  I don’t know if it will help.

                                  I have never been a fan of Opera, and them giving their support for Ubuntu based distributions over Debian draws me farther away from them..
