I tried your suggestion with the exception that I was already in /opt/slimjet when I entered apulse flashpeak-slimjet

The results were very similar to previous experiences on entering ./flashpeak-slimjet

The apparently most significant output to terminal on entering that was

ALSA lib dlmisc.c:287:(snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_equal.so ((null):
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_equal.so: cannot open shared object file: Operation not permitted)

[9770:9770:0720/154202.020196:ERROR:alsa_util.cc(204)] PcmOpen: default,No such device or address

ALSA lib dlmisc.c:287:(snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_equal.so ((null):
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_equal.so: cannot open shared object file: Operation not permitted)

although why that error when both .so files were in place (with apparent proper permissions) is a curiosity.

        Greetings to everyone.

As systemd irks me I’ve been looking into systemd-free Linux variants and found my way here.

Antix looks lean; I like lean.

Now I’m looking into why Flashpeak’s Slimjet has no sound, I see strange things apparently involved in that.

Since you ask to stick to your theme, I’ll not go into details about Shoah right now. But you asked for questions, and indeed I have some.
Let me say right at the beginning, to avoid misunderstandings: I’m feeling deep sorrow when thinking of all the Russian poeple and their relatives, who have been killed and wounded in this war, murdered by SS-squads behind the frontline, and maltreated by patriotic folks coming from Germany. This is not be narrowed on Russian people, but my sympathy equally goes out to all others who had to suffer from NS-Germany. But you asked to stick to your theme, so I’ll discuss here merely what is relevant under this constrained point of view.

At the same time, the USSR and Russia removed their troops from Germany.

There wouldn’t have been any concern about them staying, from point of view of the people and everyday living. I’m sure they would have been welcome as friends. But there are political bondages, which are historically grown from the years after 1945. Since Germany is part of NATO, there is nothing strange about US as well as other NATO member countries are military present in Germany. Just as German army is present in other NATO countries, most time of the year for training. I’m in doubt whether you can call this still occupation. What do you try to construct here? Is this kind of new conspiracy theory?

            Back to your original theme.
Russia is a great country, has ever been. And Russia has a great and long culture. It has born great writers, artists, philosophers, architects, musicians and composers… Many of its people are hospitable. It is a shame, a disgrace, Germans did attack Russia. Nothing can be done about that, it has happened.

Another question, to which I cant find any answer: What do you believe, how it was possible, cultivated people who had Immanuel Kant, Herder, Goethe, Schiller and many others among their ancestors, representing and advocating the spirit of humanity, could have been falling back into barbarian pre-enlightenment thinking and acting? Allowing Shoah to happen. Starting war not only against Russia, but against any other country within their reach? Recent results of the latest research proved, they actually planned to make war on USA also (“Amerikabomber”), once they would have had subjugated Europe completely… So what you call restrictively “Great patriotic war” was indeed a world wide war, not only between Russia and Germany. Russia was part of the alliance of countries fighting against a Germany whose people were gone collectively mad, following their “Führer”. I do understand you need some catchy formulated expression to bring people in line behind your ideas. But it is simply not true, Russia didn’t have a private war with Germany. It was a world war. So call it what it really was. If you have an answer: Who has invented this war glorifying expression »Великая Отечественная война« as an official language regulation in Russia, and why is this expression still in use today? There is nothing great about any war. And it was not patriotic, it was world wide.

in every family there is a deceased, a participant or those who survived it in the rear, there are families who died completely – as 6 million Jews.

There were not only people in Russia being killed by the german attacks. Again, the victims of german world power fantasies lived also in Britain, France, Poland, Greece, Czechoslovakia and many other countries.

Even if it was years before Soviet era, during the tsaristic era that Russia had attacked and occupied its neighbours. What is the point of keeping them under impressment, even if people of these other cultures have had clearly expressed they wanted to get their own state back? Wouldn’t have it been the duty of the new Soviet government stright after revolution to free these people instead of sending red army to kill people standing for their culture? How could they justify keeping these countries Russia had stolen under the tsar? I can’t understand this.
Take into consideration this was one of the excuses nazis had used to justify making war on other countries. They simply said: “We are late in occupying parts of the world, just as other countries (among them not at least Russia) did before. So let’s start right now, let’s ensure our share”. Don’t misread me, it was a crime what Germans of those days did and what they thought. But the question is to be allowed whether Soviet Russia was actually what it portrayed itself to be in its own propaganda.

Another question: Would the war that Germany unleashed have been possible without Stalin’s permission to invade other countries? The sharing of Poland between the two dictators was the beginning of the war. Would there ever have been a Second World War if Russia had stopped the Germans when they invaded Poland in 1939 already, together with the other countries who were allied with Poland? Instead, Stalin and Hitler had long since secretly decided on the partition of Poland. Hitler’s popular support grew mainly through his apparent success in realising his great power fantasies, in combination with this baneful patriotism. Patriotism blinded people to the cruelty of their deeds. Under this aspect, how does people in Russia assess the role of Stalin and the Soviet Union in the genesis of that war?
And what is your point of excluding this role of Soviet Union from history, only focussing on the german breach of the Non-Aggression Pact between Hitler and Stalin and its secret appendix protocol? A crime among two dictators, who were both nothing but criminals? To pose this question is not to debase in any way the memory of the victims of the German invasion of the Soviet Union.

Next question. What kind of presumptuousness is it for a country to declare itself a world power, an empire? This is sheer megalomania. It doesn’t matter whether it is Russia, the USA or China. Germany under the Nazis also once had these fantasies of world power. We all know to what that has led. This much-vaunted patriotism is nothing but a kind of religion, usually imposed by the state and firmly anchored in the brains of young children by means of a permanent public and media presence. Children who are “allowed” to cheer for their respective leaders, their country, while waving small flags.
It is exactly this patriotism that makes wars possible. Patriotism is defended with the same fanaticism as a religion is defended by its adherents. It is the catalyst that allows masses of people to be driven to war. It is the vehicle that permits people to feel superior to others. It is the soil on which National Socialism flourished. The war between Germany and Russia could only be fought because the dictators on both sides knew exactly how to stultify the population with this patriotism.
I believe I can read it from your contributions here also. Don’t take this as an accusation. If you feel this way, there is nothing wrong about it, for you personally. But please don’t try to use modern mass medium internet to promote it. You can produce incredible damage this way. Remember Shoah. Again, Russia IS a great country, its people are good people with whom one wishes friendship and peace. Only stupid believe in the fairy tale of the “big bad Russia” in the East. So my final question on your topic is: Does Russia, I mean its people, really need this patriotism? And if so, why?

Please put your original (untranslated) answer (probably cyrillic, in Russian language) below the automatic translation. This makes it easier to sort out any kind of mistranslation. Some of your thoughts and sentences are hardly understandable, which is caused by the automatic translation. If there would be the original text below, this would be a great help in understanding, allowing a second translation attempt.

              It sound similar to this:

When I run xorg in 16 bit depth from the xorg.conf file it has the
menu icons disappearing problem, but when I run in 24 bit depth the
menu works fine on the vesa driver.

If you are also running the vesa driver (can be checked with)
              inxi -Gxxx

              The output from that is:

              Graphics:
              Device-1: Neomagic NM2200 [MagicGraph 256AV]
vendor: Toshiba America Info Systems driver: N/A bus ID: 00:04.0
              chip ID: 10c8:0005
              Display: x11 server: X.org 1.20.4 driver: neomagic
unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, vesa resolution: 800×600~60Hz
              OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 7.0 128 bits) v: 3.3 Mesa 18.3.6
              compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes

Unfortunately, this sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole regarding other peoples’ experiences of the linux neomagic driver. Apparently, in 24-bit colour mode, there is no hardware acceleration, meaning that scrolling and screen refreshes will be painfully slow.

The disappearing icons issues only affects the IceWM variants of desktop window managers so I will skirt this issue just by using a different window manager.

I install Wine from Software Installer, apparently it goes smoothly and produces the following output:

Also tried to run sudo apt-get update before installation.

When I try to execute a Windows executable:

                sudo wine64 ./file.exe
it looks like wine32 is missing, you should install it.
as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32"

Use the Live USB maker to create an encrypted live USB.
You can even load the antiX live system in RAM, and then use it to create the encrypted live USB with the exact same USB you used to boot the system.
                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGVgGMhP1d4
See minute 2:16. You will see that the live USB maker has an “Encrypt” option. Select it to create the live system with encryption.

I see, thank you. I did see that, but apparently doesn’t offer any control over encryption settings (apparently not even in the CLI version), hence I did a traditional installation on USB and it proved to be a silly idea.
Do you have more details about which encryption settings does the liveusb encrypt setting use?
Is it a fully encrypted partition or full disk?

                  Thank you

This is what I get when installing openbox as the only window manager (or the last one) – update-alternatives apparently is set to update when window managers are installed. That must be why it starts without any manual setup…

                      I burnt a CD

First suggestion: try again and append “from=all” to the bootline.

Second: On a working machine, load the CD and browse its content.
                      Is “/dev/sr0/antix/linuxfs” truly absent?
If it not absent, could be a “bad burn” right? So, maybe retry and use a slower speed
                      .
Take a step further back. Possibly the downloaded ISO was corrupt. Recheck the md5sum (or sha256 sum) of the ISO file to verify its integrity.

                      Another idea:
After the “fatal error”, if a command prompt is displayed (vs unresponsive blinking underscore cursor) use the “blkid” command to check what is the (apparently something other than sr0) /dev path for the device.

My previous post in response to Xecure’s suggestion about switching window managers from the login screen BEFORE logging in somehow isn’t posted.

So, a) Thanks Xecure – I had paid no attention to that message (in red “ink”!) about a “minimalist window manager. AND, I didn’t know that you could switch by using F1 before logging in. Switching to the one I had previously been using apparently has returned everything to normal (if something pops up seemingly related, I will repost).

                          b) Some questions that seem relevant:

                          1) How did this get switched?

                          2) Why is a minimalist window manager choice available that doesn’t support a mouse? Is the user supposed to know keyboard combinations that enable the same functions? After logging in, I couldn’t find a way to make a change in the window that said the window manager chosen wouldn’t work and to select another window manager. Has anybody figured out how to select in this window without a mouse (or am I the only one NOT to have mouse functionality with a minimalist window manager)?

                          3) Why was this associated with the immediate uptick in resource use (guessing, based on the sudden LOUD fan).

So kudos to Xecure for a wonderful post laying out a whole bunch of things to do in a very clear, detailed way.

And for enlightening me about the ability to switch window managers before logging in.

So, as I wrote in a post that has already been posted, I changed the title (thanks linuxdaddy for the suggestion) and marked it solved.

P.S. If this event suggests something is poorly configured that might be causing problems I am not aware or or might arise, happy to hear suggestions about what to double check.

                            Informations

                              Informations

I have noticed that when I have a pulldown menu open in the browser, for example, many other keys don’t work.

Could this be a symptom / byproduct of enabling “sloppy mouse focus” or “quiet sloppy focus” ?

Hmmm, no collisions are apparent from a quick check of antiX19 /etc/skel/.icewm/keys

I do not know what the “ibb.co/HzNprLT” refers to. Apparently I am the only one since it seems to not be a stumbling block to other viewers. Is that supposed to be a URL? Then why doesn’t it show as a link in my browser?
