      Thanks for all responses.

The reason I was cautions about posting or not was I am ever aware of my own shortcomings, and this may be a case when I should have thought it through better.

I feel it is a case where the destination folder is located on a volume not mounted. Some applications do not attempt to mount the volume in such a case, spaceFM I think is an example. Others will perform the mount if they can, Rox-filer for example. But in nether case do they hang if the save cannot complete. But Chromium simply hangs, perhaps endlessly leaving the workspace apparently frozen. I was clearly mistaken when I said the save had completed.

I intend to check this in detail step by step including looking at the automount setting for volumes which at present is not ticked. I am using disk-manager to manually handle mounting tasks, and had overlooked having distributed various data folders across 8 volumes which are unmounted until I specifically mount them.

Once again, I think this is not a problem at all simply lack of experience! Sorry for the waste of everybody’s time!

Control Center already has these options why do you need to make it confusing. Sub menu’s should stay right there in the menu. (rofi)

That why I like using the cli versions cli-aptiX & antiX-cli-cc as they run from scripts and not a folder with a bloated bunch of .desktop files. (you have now been bined)
The only thing that cli-aptiX is missing is fact that it does not have the ability, to install programs from the main Debian server like synaptic.Yes know aimed it is at antiX programs but you edit all source list including Debians here, your does everything have to like pretty and have tick boxes like windows. windows key + mouse a match made in heaven apparently.

Docs are provided. A suitably-motivated user would have read them, and

I don’t know, by heart how the “keys” file calls the special keys, like alt and control, so

            Control key is Control
            Alt key is Mod1
            Shift key is Shift
            Tab key is Tab
            The “Windows” key is Mod4
Arrow keys are Up, Down, Left, Right
Keyboard keys (letters and numbers) are the same as what you see on the keyboard (lowercase for letters)

            “old members…”
True, physically old, and my memory regarding “what details are, or are not, correct for each version” is fogged.

            https://gitlab.com/skidoo/fluxbox/-/blob/master/data/keys
I cannot keep “so many details” front-of-mind, so I continually write notes/docs and frequently need to refer to those notes. Specific to fluxbox, and keybinds, upon checking the gitlab repo to jog my memory… I now recall that drafting enhanced documentation was one of my intended “improvements”. The version of that ‘keys’ file at gitlab does bear an explanatory header and is peppered with inline explanations/examples… but I had apparently forgotten that the “What means Mod1?” and other possibly-FAQ details are less than adequately detailed in the mainline fluxbox version.

So, I offer my apologies to the OP
and am reminded that I should take care to “tread lightly” within replies posted to “New Users” section.

                Hi Wallon,

I am not a developer, I am an antiX user and I collaborate as I can with the community.

On the transifex website you can make corrections to translations for your language and collaborate with the constant improvement of antiX. I saw that you already detected other errors and posted on other topics. If you have time available and can collaborate, register on the transifex website, choose a team to translate your language, click on the blue button “Translate”, look for the files: “make-wm-menuspot”, “antix-all -desktop-entries_entxt “and other files from almost all antiX programs. If some files are blocked to correct the translations, I recommend asking developers and reviewers to unlock them so you can collaborate.

Apparently, @marcuscf encountered the same problem that was discussed in the topic

I hope you can understand my words correctly translated by the internet translator.

                    “gksuperdudo … and it worked”
In the case of timeshift, if its “action(s) definition file” contains only one default rule, the apparent success would probably be accurate. However, in the case of programs where the action file contains multiple rules, bear in mind that sudo only “works” to supplant the default rule governing who may launch the program.

(from menu, app-select and terminal, it promps a window and asking for the ROOT password).

                    man pkexec
is probably a good (relatively quick) place to start reading, toward understanding the policykit machinations.

                    man polkit
provides a bit more detail than the pkexec manpage, and (IMO) should be regarded as Required Reading both for sysadmins and for any user who has (or, past tense, had) been granted sudo privileges. Hopefully we will seldom, if ever, want or need to customize the as-packaged rules for a given program but it is important for us to understand that multiple, granular, rules may be at play in governing the behavior(s) of a particular program. Example: synaptic ~~ as packaged, any user can launch the program but, during runtime, a re-auth is performed prior to any add/remove/purge operation… and such operations will fail, if (per the policy specified in the action rules file) synaptic has not been launched by a suitably-permissioned account. Disclaimer: I’m describing that from foggy memory ~~ instead of failing, a given app (perhaps not synaptic though) may be coded to popup an authorization dialogbox if the app wasn’t launched by a user having sufficient permissions. (Or, as reported regarding Timeshift, disabled aka “greyed out”.)

Each deb package that provides a program which utilizes (aka depends on) policykit auth should install an associated “action(s) definition file”. Here the word “should” instead of “must” just indicates that I’m unsure whether debian packaging policy specifies “must”.

                    /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/
This is the location where “policykit action definition files” (are expected to) reside.
A sysadmin (or a distroteer) may want to edit one/several of thes files, in order to customize the rules governing the action(s) associated with a given program. Bear in mind though, files which were installed by a package are subject to being overwritten during package upgrades (so backup any edited files and/or use dpkg-divert to guard them).

The policykit actions files can be viewed/edited in a text editor.
The structure of their content is xsl/xml -ish; the indentation of nested elements is optional (indentation intended to haha ‘facilitate’ reading).

an authentication-agent (e.g. provided by package lxpolkit or mate-polkit or policykit-1-gnome) is running and
                    “asking for the ROOT password”
and when we inspect the content of the ‘in.teejeetech.timeshift.blahblah’ actions definition file, we can (er “should be able to”) see/understand why

                    ______
howto to access full polkit documentation:
                    sudo apt install policykit-1-doc
                    then, via web browser, /usr/share/doc/policykit-1-doc/html/index.html

do you really think a standard user will be able to create his own po type translation file to a community script? Where should he look for the strings and texts to be translated? And where should he put them after he did the work? Does he even know about the existence of po files? I didn’t… Maybe this could be worth to investigate and provide a convenient solution for antiX community

You’re a hero for identifying an apparent deficiency and having the motivation to pursue a solution. Really, I haven’t “studied it” ~~ as a monoglot, while inspecting the antiX scripts I have only “tripped over” noticing those gettext-related functions. I have also noticed inline comments within some scripts, comments intended to provide guidance and warnings (e.g., translators: do not translate the following line!)

websearching while typing this post, I skimmed https://pymotw.com/2/gettext/
Apparently, multiple tools (utilities) are availble, including one which serves to extract “message catalog” sets from existing .mo files

a debian “gettext-doc” package is available
                        but its installed content https://packages.debian.org/buster/all/gettext-doc/filelist
does not suggest much focus toward bash//shell scripting.

                          —————————————————————————–

                          So this was my path:

                          # apt install backuppc
                          $Conf{SmbClientPath} = ‘/usr/bin/smbclient’ is not a valid executable program
                          # apt install smbclient
                          # apt purge backuppc
                          # apt install backuppc
                          $Conf{NmbLookupPath} = ‘/usr/bin/nmblookup’ is not a valid executable program
                          # apt install samba-common-bin
                          # apt purge backuppc
                          # apt install backuppc

                          now it works.

This is the first time I encounter that package’s dependencies are not auto-resolved, I expected packages to be installed with one command, especially on a distro like Debian stable

The results above were after I was able to update antiX by performing the same process that I described. Unfortunately, I forgot to copy the result of this first update test today (12-01-2021). Therefore, the results above are from the second attempt made today.

Apparently the “$ sudo apt update” only works when I use the time in advance for 3 hours and the “$ sudo apt upgrade” works at both times.

Would you be able to tell me what is the reason for having to advance the time for the “$ sudo apt update” to only work?

If necessary I will do more tests. Please guide me.

                            Thank you very much.

                            ———-

English is one of the simplest languages in the world.

If we are talking about spoken English, I may agree. If we are talking about written English, it is just wrong. Written and spoken English sometimes seem different languages entirely.
“Apol” is written Apple. The verb READ is pronounced differently depending on if it referring to present or past action. Words that are written completely different have the exact same pronunciation. Vowels are not a stable sound, and may sound differently depending of the word. There are, for no apparent reason, double ps (like in apple), double ts, double ds, double rs, double ss, double ns, some that follow rules but many that don’t, making it impossible for someone who hasn’t memorized those words to know how to write them, and they cannot easily build them based on logic. Etc.

English is simple, but it lacks a good word-to-text set of rules, probably because it is so simple (and because of tradition of different nations). If they sacrificed their history and built a new set of rules for written English, which would make it more predictable and would decrease the learning curve, English would really dominate the world (now it only dominates the world because of the USA’s past and present achievements). But that wont happen, so forget about it.

Encryption has been a problem for live USB for some time. That is probably the issue you are experiencing. Make sure the live-usb-maker is up to date, just in case some bug fixes have solved the specific problem you are experiencing.

Just to mention, I am mostly using encrypted antiX Live USB and it works with no problem for me. My antiX Live is 19.2 Hannie Schaft fully updated, which is in my understanding the same composition as 19.3. Please correct me if there is any difference, though…
Just from my experience with Live antiX Live USB Maker:
                                – Cloning from unencrypted Live USB antiX works fine to create another unencrypted Live USB
                                – Cloning from encrypted Live antiX works fine to unencrypted Live antiX
                                – Cloning from encrypted Live antiX to encrypted Live antiX has proved not to work since version 2.15, if I got the version terminology right…
Live USB Maker and cloning Live antiX is important to me as Live antiX is what I run on all my many different Thinkpads.
I should add that one peculiar condition I came to realize was that when cloning or remastering one should take thee laptop out of docking station, even if usb sticks are directly in the laptop not in docking station. I experience cloning and remastering errors if laptop is in docking station. I do not understand why this would matter but apparently there is something that throws these programs out of the water if plugged in…

In spite of getting Bluetooth to work and to achieve listening with my Soundcore Life Q10 headset on Endeavor OS, the same hardware where I’ve been running MX Linux, antiX 19.3, antiX Alpha Bullseye and Debian Bullseye Alpha 3, only Endeavor OS is working, suggesting something is wrong with the entire set of packages available with Debian-based systems (sample size 4) yet working with another OS on the same hardware.

Has anyone seen anything else? Any other thoughts on what has caused this apparent regression?
