@masinik, have loads of Zappa on vinyl. Must set up my antique player again.
I fitted a new cartridge, setting up the arm is a pain in the rear.
Ortofon Blue, SME 3009 Mk3, Thorens TD160, Beats my rega CD player by miles
      for sound.
Goes through an Alchemist Kraken Class a amp and KEF Floorstanders.

Not sure how many, Loads of LP, hundreds, many from new and play that way.
Second hand carefuly bought and cleaned, new sleeves.
The Thorens deck will be passed on to my daughter along with the Amp, both
      are very enjoyable sound wise.

Vinyl records last longer than we ever will, if cared for.

          @all, Thanks for further insights,
A big argument for vgy.me, the site skidoo has been or is using is no recompression, that ruins any quality image
especially macro which is neccesary for the bugs I often ask for portraits..
Must respect them, some can cause real harm if angered. My asian friends are scared to death of big yellow wasps and
more so the hornets i was carefuly approaching. I had/have more fear of stonefish and cone shells because they are totaly
          alien, some cones deadly.

vgy has no we look after your images by giving them to third partys and they have their own privacy policy mentioned,
which leads to total loss of controll, especially when images are transferred to USA.

You did agree by uploading dear, if you wish to use the image, you transferred all rights to us, our fees are $$$$$.

KI is advancing fast, the vgy homepage mentioned the problems with spamming.

When I began using vgy.me a couple years ago, it accepted anonymous uploads.
I chose to use that site because unlike many other hosters I tested, it did not (still does not) aggressively re-compress uploaded images to conserve storage space on the server ~~ which would cause blurred text within screencap images.

Later they began injecting captcha puzzles to solve, unless you created a login account.
About a year ago, they changed to outright requiring login to upload.
(Apparently, the captcha-solving bots employed by would-be upload spammers were “winning”.)

When logged in, you can view pages of thumbs for images you have uploaded (in case you want to lookup and re-share a link to an image). FWIW, they have never sent an unsolicited email message and no 3rd party spammer has ever contacted the unique, aliased, mailbox I used when I registered.

Apparently, autopoweroff sends the following command when suspending a PC:

              echo -n mem >/sys/power/state

In terminal, as root, I tried echo -n mem >/sys/power/state when using the 4.9.240 32-bit kernel.
Sometimes, it worked and put my laptop to sleep. And sometimes it did not. It was unpredictable.

By the way, here are details on the problematic kernel that I am using:

              $ uname -a
              Linux antix1-laptop 4.9.240-antix.1-486-smp #1 SMP Mon Oct 19 06:12:43 EDT 2020 i686 GNU/Linux

In the configuration GUI of autopoweroff, I replaced the suspend command with “sudo pm-suspend”. Now autopoweroff appears to put my PC to sleep (or suspend). (I am using the latest version of autopoweroff – version 3.2.1)

So it looks like the 4.9.240 kernel may be the problem. It does not like “echo -n mem >/sys/power/state” on this old slow 32-bit laptop.

P.S. I posted my findings on the autopoweroff website. I also asked whether he will continue to support init.d. I hope he does!

n the image you shared with us, I can clearly see the Adobe Acrobat reader image on the right.

Yes. The Adobe on the right is the running Acrobat. This one is good. The icon from which it was started is second on the right from Chrome and appears to have fragments of Acrobat, apparently due to being to large and not fitting entirely.
Icons to the right of Chrome appear to be in general oversized, which may account for impression of being crowded.
I am not looking for perfection and these are not necessarily I would put on the toolbar in reality but it is here just to illustrate that some lack of uniformity in size and spacing is something to look at in general.

Another pecularity I noticed is that if the mouse pointer is on empty space of desktop and mouse wheel is turned then the entire set of running apps disappear. Turn wheel more it re-appears and so on, as if turning wheel rotates workspaces…

                  Thanks and Regards…

( when I tried that- running on Icewm, with Icewm’s toolbar hidden
and using xdo to simulate pressing the keyboard shortcut to display the menu,
it displays the menu on the upper left side of the screen)

Apparently your config specified “TaskBarAtTop=true” while testing.
If “TaskBarAtTop=false” is set, the location will (must) be lower-left.

The iceWM “startmenu” is not exposed to wmctrl, as demonstrated by:
                    xdotool key “Super_L” && sleep 2 && wmctrl -l

Inspecting the wmtaskbar.cc source code, we learn that the “startmenu” isn’t a “thing” isn’t a widget that we can call into existence and then dragged or repositioned… the x,y offset for the bounding boxes of each menu cell is dynapically calculated based on an offset determined by (TaskBarAtTop y/n, and) the current themed height of the wmtaskbar widget.

It is still incomplete, but I have crafted this article for people to understand their repos.
                      https://antixlinuxfan.miraheze.org/wiki/Repo_Management

I have seen some users manage the antiX APT source.list repos incorrectly, thinking that antiX is the same as any Debian based system, and they disable the sources inside the antix.list file. This will only give you problems because systemd will come in and then we won’t be able to help.

Others enable all commented repos, thinking this is like Ubuntu and find themselfs with a mix debian buster, testing and sid packages and a irrecuperable system.

Others start adding PPAs because they cannot find a certain program or think the version of the programs installed are too old. This bring new packages that conflict with other dependencies, making it difficutl to manage the inompatible versions of packages in their system.

I hope the article may help a bit for those who are experimenting with the repos.

                        Hallo BobC,
                        thanks for coming in,
the autostart as you gave me does not put LO on the correct desktops, calc 3 writer 4.
The original version I have been using for months does, so might as well stay that way.
                        ——————————————————————————————
The method for default sizing of windows is it seems, an absolutely appalling feature of
Libreoffice, with no logical way to override the behaviour.

The problem is subject of posts on LO org and as it seems there is no intent to resolve,
seems that users who ask for usable behaviour in the age of wide screens and 4K are being treated as
menial idiotic gripers. reminds of Mozilla where same often applies..

Key is the so called start center, somehow that is reading screen size and opens at full screen,
that behaviour is saved in the config and causes all applications in the office suite to open the same way.

Logical for the user, who wrote it that idiotic way, microsoft ????. Making users and Forum members waste
hours of their lives to work around this crap. I am disgusted and very angry.
                        ——————————————————————————————————————–
To get LO to open Calc, Writer other parts of the suite at a given size and position.
                        1/ Close LO completely.
2/ Using a file manager set to showing hidden files open /home/.config. Delete the folder libreoffice.
3/ Open the Libreoffice start center on the desktop you wish to use Calc on. Resize the START CENTER WINDOW
to the proportions you wish for. Open calc. Close it using the Menu, close the start center using the menu.
4/ Do proceedure as above substituting writer/draw/impress/math for calc.

Bob would you please follow and confirm, or we need to correct so this can be used by others.
I will compare config files, new and corrected to see how the changes are stored.
Maybe we can come up with an easier way to set some sensible defaults. And lock them.

Once this is quality checked we can put it in wiki and on MX forum. I found no solution there.

I get this when attempting to install skippy-xd:

Yeah, it’s served from a “PPA”, hosted on launchpad.net

I grabbed a copy of the source code & put it here:
                          https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/skippy-xd
and compiled (only took 90sec or so) & tested it to confirm it works on antiX 19

The packaging was for ubuntu 16.04 and would need to be finagled, in order to create a suitable “package” for it. I didn’t bother to spend time doing so. Until someone does that… you can use the following to install it

sudo apt install git build-essential fakeroot
                          cd /tmp

Thank you PPC for this How-To.
I am intrigued by this idea I am trying to follow steps to implement and test under Fluxbox.
One question though, assuming this ends up working nicely under Fluxbox: There has been lots of additional enhancements done to IceWM by antiX team, such as mapping hardware sound volume keys to manage volume, screen brightness, etc., which I do not think has been done for Fluxbox, apparently due to priority given to IceWM – is there any function in Tint2 to accomplish things like this?

This is not an issue with Icewm, just the present defaults might be worth changing..

I would like to thank you and anticapitalista for recognizing this issue and that this issue will be addressed soon for antiX as anti described. From my experience changing these defaults proves a good and quick practical solution to resolve manifestation of this issue.

However, to be meticulously precise in representation, this solution is a painkiller rather than actual fix to IceWM, although practical and easy.
In actuality it should be classified as IceWM bug because IceWM should have no business to interpret such move of mouse as drag of object in the first place. Simply there is no object selected by mouse to drag, just mouse movement on empty desktop.

As an example Fluxbox (also gnome or any other) does correctly interpret mouse movement on empty desktop and pops up menu as expected, regardless of distance of mouse move. No ‘drag’ ideas here. In IceWM if you overcome ‘drag’ distance limitation of specified parameters (move your mouse farther) then it still interprets as ‘drag’ and no menu will pop up.

Despite apparent reluctance to accept the fact IceWM is not perfect, nevertheless it is a great WM overall. Considering ideal solution might be difficult to accomplish due to limited development support the above practical circumvention is good enough to make it work well in practice.
                              Thanks again and Best Regards…

While you are almost certainly “correct” in that other graphical user environments do not behave the same way as IceWM, it is equally debatable whether or not “IceWM should have no business to interpret such move of mouse as drag of object”. Those are design decisions, ones which IceWM has uniquely held not just for a few years, but for a couple of decades. Therefore, if there was interest or concern in altering the behavior of the configuration, there has been more than ample opportunity to recommend changes or report defects. Since that has not been done, it becomes more of a design preference matter, one you have a right to express, and also a right the designers have to either maintain (which they have) or change (which they have not).

I certainly appreciate your thoughtfulness in this manner; like you and the IceWM designers, what I’ve responded here are my personal opinions based on my experience with the Open Source Software community. What’s also good about the process is that when someone has different approaches, software can be modified, even “forked” from the original efforts (citing any code used or referenced) creating yet another “variety” or “variation”. I doubt that it’s worth doing in this case, but it IS possible.

salut désolé, j’ai du suivre des recommandations sur des bugs qui existaient déjà depuis 2014 sur d’autres forums.

J’ai réglé par ça, sudo apt-get install aptitude

                                  puis sudo aptitude install zsnes

Je pense que ça a fait bugué des librairies, mais apparemment ça gère bien les dépendances.

Puis pour le problème de son, une fois le logiciel lancé :

                                  sudo lsmod |grep oss

                                  et

                                  sudo modprobe snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer oss

                                  merci pour votre aide.

Pour mes autres problèmes, je verrais plus tard.
