ssh-conduit-antix is a gui app so it not what you want.
Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Thank you, I meet Base and Full through VM. Core is enough for DNS server. Only stay unclear how to SSH into it after installing ssh-conduit-antix. On W10 OS I use Putty but it can not connect. It is much simplier to setup VNC or RDP on GUI but I dont need gui for “server”, so can you please apoint me where Im making mistakes? Thank you

You may find it easier (at first) to start with the Full implementation of antiX, or at least the Base implementation until you are familiar with the specific packages you want to use to handle the tasks you are interested in. The Core release is certainly capable of doing whatever you need, but it’s called “Core” because it provides only core software, not a complete system full of applications, though the recent version includes a wireless interface. The “Net” version of antiX is even more pared down. It provides only a system core that must be customized manually using a wired network interface.
Though antiX Full and antiX Base may not have every single application you want to use pre-installed, both of them offer a GUI-based user experience. With a knowledge of available Debian-based software (or other Linux software that can be built through tar, bz2, or other formats) you can customize any of our distributions to your heart’s content, provided you understand what to do and the implications of the software and tools chosen.
I hope that at least points you toward an answer. Feel free to ask more specific questions and perhaps someone else can provide a more specific solution or suggestion for you. Best wishes! Brian
Im confused. It is harder to setup on core version without GUI. I allready installed ssh-conduit-antix. What next /> please…
Thanks
PS I checked https://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/docs-antiX-17/FAQ/ssh-conduit.html but it seems confusing.
What to do to allow connections after installation to core ssh-conduit-antix? Im dont say that there is no explanation. But it seems that all explanations is for GUI.Thanks agains

Heloo friends,
Im need antiX linux to run DNS-Sinkhole.
It will be installed in virtual machine or separate device, I did not decide yet, but Im having some troubles with version. On my job I installed antix 17.4 ( Dont remember is it: net, core, base or full ). Im not sure but I think that it is base version since I dont have LibreOffice, and with gui it uses between 90 and 110 MB of RAM. Today I tested 17.4.1.net version and noticed that commands like: ping, curl, htop, top… simply dont work ( WHAT? Ping dont work ??? ). Is there any comparasion table of versions? I need CURL command for pi-hole package install. Whatis wrong with “net” version why there is no ping command and many other? If Im using base or full on my job, how to stop GUI, I dont need them. after configuration SSH is enough. At all what is difference between core and net and between base and full? Thank you

I’m having the problem where slim takes 55 mb and xorg takes 82 mb of memory on my Dell xps-15 laptop with 4k optimus video built in.
I got it down to 34 mb by reducing the background.jpg and panel.png to very small files. I would be happy with just a console style login and some of my memory back 🙂
Luckily the machine has 16 gb.

@BobC. I’m a bit dense. I am very happy to share what I like about the tools I use and have tested. I publish most of what I learn on my site for all to see and use (as they see fit).
Much of it is located in my knowledge-base, probably a misnomer. Anyway, it is here:
https://eirenicon.org/knowledge-base/Here is an excerpt of some of what I wrote on rofi:
rofi is used to access keybinding help (to assist my “remembery”…)
in another, more traditional, mode rofi provides access to:
* ssh
* active items by workspace
* launching facilities for applications via:
‘run’ mode which allows users to quickly search for and launch a program (much like typing a command in terminal mode)
‘drun’ mode which provides:
a favorites list, with frequently used programs “like cream” floating on top
Search selectable/accessible application autostartI should add that today I set rofi up to:
1. detect and allow me to connect-disconnect from available wireless options.
2. give me a quick list of all open activities across my workspaces so I can see more than which workspace is active. It also allows me to go directly to any active task I want.But please feel free query me regarding any topic where you think I might be able to help provide useful help.

xorg=default, xorg=safe and F4-nosavestate didn’t help. Neither did F4-toram.
Bootchart of a failed start (persist_all):

Bootchart of a successful start (frugal_static):

By the way, antiX 17.4’s live USB boots just fine on this computer. GUI and all.
Edit: I selected failsafe boot from the boot menu and deleted all other boot options except for nomodeset-failsafe. The last thing I saw before getting a black screen that lasted for three minutes (no blinking cursor in the upper-left corner, just a plain black screen) was Starting OpenBSD Secure Shell server: sshd. After three minutes I was returned to the text boot screen where I saw these lines after the OpenBSD secure shell server line:
Applying power save threshholds: done
Setting battery (something) thresholds: done (I can’t read my own writing.)
Live-restore-services: restoring service linksthen it just sat there. I was able to get a console login prompt (alt+F2) and log in as demo then start the GUI with sudo slim. This is with persist_all enabled (so I could copy the boot chart image to Live-usb-storage/demo to save it.) I’ve done the same thing after all of the others where I saved bootcharts, so that’s why you’ll see that everything seemed to be working at the very far right: that was me logging in at the console and manually starting the GUI.
In case this tells you anything different than the other two images here’s my failsafe boot chart:

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problemsJune 24, 2019 at 10:43 pm #23802In reply to: antiX-19 ps_mem.py

ok, not sure if this is actually what was being asked for, but I found a way to disable slim and run from startx after logging into the console in antiX19b1 32 bit.
Obviously, this would void your warranty, which doesn’t exist anyway, lol.
Open terminal
sudo mc
cd /etc/rc5.d
point to S04slim
F6 and rename to K04slim
the README file there says to run “update-rc.d script defaults” but that doesn’t seem to work
Logout – reboot (you can just type reboot as root from mc I am pretty sure)
When you reboot it will come up to a login prompt in console. Log in as your normal user, then type startxI tested this on my 32 bit instal of antiX19b1, but obviously it might or might not work for you. I am on a test system having done it typing this. Here is my memory print…

=================================PS: so to prove how much I saved, I put slim back and rebooted again with slim set for min-icewm. The moral of the story is that I LOST 1 mb using startx on this machine because slim isn’t using 34 mb on this one.

the setfont program which is used to set the console font has a limit of 32 pixels and won’t load fonts larger than that. I just heard back from the setfont dev who said the font size limit of 32 is baked into the kernel. (sigh)
The combination of the kernel limiting the console font size and the default of setting the console resolution as highest as possible is unfortunate. It means we are still going to struggle to make the consoles usable OOTB on high dpi systems.
Bitjam, toward gaining access to larger font sizes…
have you ruled out bundling fbterm + select fonts into the initrd and invoking fbterm early within init::main_wrapper() ?(the ruleout consideration is: would need to fallback in the event the stock antiX kernel has been replaced with a kernel which lacks fbcondecor)
=====================
For anyone unfamiliar with fbterm, check it out:
from console:
sudo apt install fbterm
fbterm -s 48fbterm -v
(lists available fonts)can specify background color, can multiplex (like screen or tmux) up to 10 windows…
…and (what dgh asked) can apply a background imageThe only limitation of fbterm I’ve encountered is that wouldn’t start in SSH session, complaining ‘stdin is not an interactive tty’
screenshot of a console running screen inside fbterm w/ Miles Davis backgound image:
(no Xserver involved, this is a console environment)

antiX provides an app named SSH-Conduit which does a lot of what you want and much more.

Sorry, me again! First of all, I feel a little whiney here, so let me say that the Antix tools are top-notch, I’m really impressed! For me they just barely miss the mark, though: live-usb-maker lets you make new usb with a vanilla live Antix on it; live-remaster gives you a custom live Antix with your modifications (apt installs and so on) applied … but does it in-place on the running usb! Can I get the custom live Antix copied onto a new usb drive?
Exercise: create a pair of live-usb with persistence, DHCP, apt package manager, systemd-free, no GUI, ssh-enabled.
Resources: internet connection, Mac or Linux computer, *four* usb drives.
Warning: replace the # correctly in step 3 or you can wipe your hard drive.
Untested:
1. Download antiX-17.4.1_x64-net.iso 2. insert usb-one, note device path for next step (lsblk in Linux, "diskutil list" in MacOS) 3. dd if=antiX-17.4.1_x64-net.iso of=/dev/disk# bs=8m 4. boot from usb-one 5. insert usb-two and note device path for next step 6. live-use-maker --from=clone 7. reboot from usb-two, using F5 to select persistence option and F8 to save boot parameters. 8. write a *script*, eg adduser jdoe; apt install -y openssl ca-certificates 9. use dd to duplicate usb-two onto usb-three (probably have to reboot using usb-one first) 10. boot from usb-three 11. apply customize script created in step 8 12. live-remaster and follow promptsRepeat steps 9 through 12 with usb-four in place of usb-three to make another one. Suggestions for shortcuts?

Topic: Problem with commands
Thank you
