The following is from an install on a 2.5″ external hard drive connected to my laptop via USB. HDD in inix below is the laptop’s hard drive loaded with Windows 10 and not being used at all while running antiX. The full 64-bit antiX install is on the external drive, including GRUB. This is just a test setup using an SATA-II disk running through a USB2 system to provide a baseline for later comparison. I will be replacing the external drive with a SATA-III disk running through USB3. I expect that to speed things up. But I must say I am surprised at how well this is working out at USB2.

We have a post about memory usage via ps_mem.py, here’s one about boot time to desktop without using a stopwatch or conky.

In a terminal, type pstree to see which services get started and then type start-t foo where foo is the name of your wm or conky if you use it(I don’t).

                pstree

Ok, My conky has been cobbled together over the years. Its not perfect by any stretch, as I don’t actually know much linux stuff, just learning as I go. A good example being that /tmp doesn’t need to write to the disk. So here is a pic of it in its current form, and the conky code itself. I’ll put the scripts it runs in a tar file…

PS: something that I realized, my xbattbar is modified to be able to output a file for the script called by conky to grab the latest value from, and the maintainer never never replied, so I need to come up with a way to distribute that for the battery section to work well. I’m also changing the scripts to use files in /tmp when files are used.

I tried to fix the image so you can see the whole thing, but it posted a 2nd picture instead of replacing the first one. Oh well, if anyone knows how, delete both and I’ll try again with an even smaller one….

I added the tar file. You need to have xget, curl and xbattbar, as well as conky installed for this to work. My xbattbar programs (source included) are compiled on an _x64 system, but I don’t know if that matters. Someone like Dave or Skidoo that know what they are doing should look at my code before you guys try to run it, as like I said, I am no linux guru, and can barely tread water. That means I tried, but no warranty 🙂 Ok, the website won’t allow a .tgz file, so I have renamed it to .zip to try that. If that works, you will need to rename it back to .tgz to unextract and install it.

Sorry, I would remove the pics and try smaller ones, but can’t figure out how…

This should be an easy one. I want to run the following commands every time the computer boots so i don’t have to ssh in and type them in. How can I easily do it?

                          here are the commands:
                          tightvncserver
this allows me to use tightvnc to operate my antiX box remotely

                          boincmgr
this allows me to see what boinc is doing

if you can even suggest a message thread to follow, which would be a good guide.

                          Thank you

Hello, I am new to antiX so please be gentle. My goal is to FTP into my antiX machine (local LAN) to save some files on a large hard drive. I prefer to use FTP because I can see the speeds and if any transfers have failed.

                            my antiX setup:
                            – antiX-17_386-full.iso running on a Dell dimension 2400 (installed and runs just fine) need to be 32bit for this old girl.
                            – reserved 192.168.0.134 for antiX machine and I can ssh in just fine
                            – Ethernet connected to LAN

other machine that holds the files
                            – acer Win 10 home laptop
                            – wifi connected
I tried to FTP using Filezilla but i get the response that the 192.168.0.134 refused the connection. What settings do i need to make on antiX to make the connection?

                            many thanks

                                1st. I’d look at

                                harry@biker:~
                                $ locate paneltoggle.sh
                                /usr/local/bin/paneltoggle.sh

The error message says looking for a directory. paneltoggle.sh is a executable text file. Your screwup looks like to me like systemd got pulled in somehow. Which defaults to using /usr/bin. From past experience. When I broke my installs. Pulling in systemd into my AntiX installs. Files in /usr/local/bin would become non functioning. Since systemd defualts to using /usr/bin.

On my working install. You can compare my readout to yours to see if you pulled in anything extra.

                                harry@biker:~
