How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problemsJanuary 2, 2018 at 12:10 pm #4666In reply to: [SOLVED] Slim memory usage, taking 33mb
ModeratorBobC
I did a fresh install to a different partition with no mods at all while eating lunch and the results are similar. I lost some memory because I am using wicd and lxterminal, but slim is still around 33mb
When it boots, I have to give add to the grub boot line:
acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=WindowsOther than that, no changes whatsoever

Thanks for helping…
This is with 2 mrxvt terminal tabs, mc as root, firefox with 4 tabs, wpa_supplicant, wpa_cli and dhclient for wifi, conky and spacefm with 2 panels and 6 tabs. The desktop is the default Rox-Icewm. I didn’t change anything related to slim, I don’t think. I’m not sure how to diagnose other than to lad the same o/s on another partition with no mods to see if its my tweaks causing it.

As the error says the /.config/icewm/startup file does not exist.
For that matter neither does any of the other files because the “~” is missing from the front of the file path. (should be ~/.icewm/startup not /.icewm/startup)
You will probably find better luck opening these files through the control centre.
Control centre -> Desktop -> Edit icewm settings
And
Control centre -> session -> user desktop session.And the files will probably be similar to:
~/.icewm/startup

by adding
CPUStatusShowAcpiTemp=0
CPUStatusShowCpuFreq=0to your ~/.icewm/preferences.
I’m collecting notes toward creating a “frequently observed pitfalls” Hints-n-Tips topic, and reading this reminded me how I’ve often encountered “WTF?” results after having edited a config file, due to:
• neglecting to notice a particular var=value declaration line already exists, and winding up with that existing line re-declaring and stomping the value I intended to change.^—- dealing with some config files is often “even more confusing, rub salt in my eye whydontcha”.
For instance: ~/.fluxbox/init
After having manually edited the file (and confirming that your change is recognized, AND is retained across restarts), later, in the indeterminate future…
…when you perform “Reconfigure” via fluxbox menu, the app silently “performs housekeeping” and rewrites the config file
( strips commented lines, strips redundant/redeclaration lines {— only the bottommost of a redundant pair of lines is preserved )December 14, 2017 at 10:05 am #3794Member

mouse-hovering over the CPU-indicator shows a 5 line-report, of which the last two (ACPI temp, CPU freq) are meaningless on this sytem. Is there a way to remove the display of the lines in question ?
Get rid of the two meaningless lines by adding
CPUStatusShowAcpiTemp=0 CPUStatusShowCpuFreq=0to your ~/.icewm/preferences.
