Hmm. I cannot seem to replicate the issue. I have a theory that it may be from a program you have installed but I do not that is starting with xdg startup. Could you post the output of
ls /etc/xdg/autostart/
and
ls ~/.config/autostart/So I can see if there are any other programs in the startup that I do not have installed on my system?
If my theory is correct and I can replicate it by installing an application then I should be able to fix it fairly easily and you would see it in an update.Below is the output of ls /etc/xdg/autostart/ and ls ~/.config/autostart/ :
user@antix1:~
$ ls /etc/xdg/autostart/
at-spi-dbus-bus.desktop gnome-keyring-secrets.desktop notify-osd.desktop
clipit-startup.desktop gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop print-applet.desktop
gnome-keyring-pkcs11.desktop gsettings-data-convert.desktop wicd-tray.desktop
user@antix1:~
$ ls ~/.config/autostart/
megasync.desktop
user@antix1:~
$
———————————————————————————————————————–
These issues all started when I initially changed the xdg autostart from false to true in order to get Megasync to show on the sys tray, and it worked. The change also made Clipit show up on the sys tray. I also started getting the Wicd dialog boxes coming up.Since I last posted, I have dealt with the issue by changing xdg autostart back to false and adding “Megasync &” to icewm/startup. Now, I no longer get the Wicd dialog boxes, and I have Megasync in the sys tray. I don’t have Clipit in the sys tray and this is OK because I don’t use it. What do you think of this solution? Are there any drawbacks to this arrangement?
I will study the stuff you sent on Wicd.
Thanks for the help.

Hmm seems ok.
I am not sure what is different than how it is set up here.Out of curiosity (and may or may not be related) do you have two wicd icons in the system tray?
I ask because you have it enabled in the startup file and it also has a .desktop file for xdg startup (I get two using your posted configs).Edit:
I did notice that your desktop-session.conf uses different ” ” marks for the values. Example is STARTUP_DELAY
I am not sure if this is because of posting it in the forum or not. I had to change them all so they were the same after copying your configs from the forum. Maybe this is really a problem on your computer? Also if you could post the contents of $HOME/.desktop-session/log
———————————————————————————————————————–
Yes, there is a problem with wicd. Since I changed xcg startup from false to true, I have been getting a popup of wicd stating “wicd needs to access your computer’s network cards” and requesting a password–I put in the computer password, then I get two icons in the sys tray. I initially used ceni to setup wireless, and I don’t want to use wicd for wireless. How do I stop getting the popup and wicd?
————————————————————————————————————————
In the actual desktop-session.conf all the ” ” marks look the same to me.

Hmm strange perhaps you have found a bug. What is the content of ~/.desktop-session/startup? And could you also post an ls of ~/.config/autostart?
Here is the content of .desktop-session/startup:

antiX comes with a very useful script called ps_mem.py. This shows memory usage and must be run as root user.
For fun, post the output in a root terminal, at idle desktop ie just after booting to desktop with no apps running.
Here is mine, running antiX-17 64 bit, herbstluftwm.
Private + Shared = RAM used Program 84.0 KiB + 50.0 KiB = 134.0 KiB sleep 144.0 KiB + 34.0 KiB = 178.0 KiB startpar 168.0 KiB + 33.5 KiB = 201.5 KiB ifup 208.0 KiB + 38.5 KiB = 246.5 KiB sh 224.0 KiB + 37.5 KiB = 261.5 KiB gpm 296.0 KiB + 35.0 KiB = 331.0 KiB acpid 284.0 KiB + 72.5 KiB = 356.5 KiB init 332.0 KiB + 91.0 KiB = 423.0 KiB irqbalance 320.0 KiB + 166.5 KiB = 486.5 KiB process-reaper 340.0 KiB + 356.5 KiB = 696.5 KiB herbstclient 632.0 KiB + 154.0 KiB = 786.0 KiB dbus-daemon 368.0 KiB + 668.0 KiB = 1.0 MiB avahi-daemon (2) 868.0 KiB + 220.5 KiB = 1.1 MiB desktop-session 916.0 KiB + 275.0 KiB = 1.2 MiB sudo 1.2 MiB + 152.0 KiB = 1.4 MiB awk 1.3 MiB + 151.0 KiB = 1.4 MiB sshd 908.0 KiB + 591.0 KiB = 1.5 MiB getty (6) 1.2 MiB + 326.5 KiB = 1.5 MiB gnome-keyring-daemon 1.0 MiB + 754.5 KiB = 1.8 MiB herbstluftwm 916.0 KiB + 1.0 MiB = 1.9 MiB dzen2 2.3 MiB + 250.0 KiB = 2.6 MiB dhclient 2.5 MiB + 265.5 KiB = 2.8 MiB wpa_supplicant 1.8 MiB + 1.1 MiB = 2.9 MiB console-kit-daemon 2.9 MiB + 965.0 KiB = 3.8 MiB polkitd 3.8 MiB + 82.5 KiB = 3.9 MiB rsyslogd 2.8 MiB + 1.2 MiB = 4.0 MiB bash (6) 3.5 MiB + 1.4 MiB = 4.8 MiB slim 6.9 MiB + 2.7 MiB = 9.5 MiB urxvt (2) 7.6 MiB + 3.3 MiB = 10.9 MiB udevd (17) 17.8 MiB + 957.5 KiB = 18.7 MiB Xorg --------------------------------- 80.7 MiB =================================- This topic was modified 5 years, 5 months ago by anticapitalista.

I found that firefox 57 uses more memory than the default (upgraded) firefox-esr on antiX stretch. IIRC it was something like 350 MB for firefox plus another 350 MB for processes dependent on firefox.

A NEW APP
SSH-Conduit is available from the repo for antiX-17.It is a way of securely accessing, and/or securely providing, a range of resources on unattended remote systems.
Installation can be done in a few clicks via the Package Installer.
Main Menu➞Control Center➞System Tab➞Package Installer➞Remote Access➞SSH-ConduitA video is in the works from dolphin_oracle, so keep an eye open for it.
A guide is available in both the locally installed FAQ and in the online FAQ.
http://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/docs-antiX-17/FAQ/ssh-conduit.htmlIN BRIEF
SSH-Conduit is a suite of applications that establish secure connections to other systems across either the internet or local network. The connection is automatically encrypted to provide privacy during the session. Two roles can be performed at the same time by each system:
- Serve local resources to remote systems,
- Access remote resources from the local system.
In other words, a system may act either as a client, or as a server, and can do both concurrently.
Four ways are provided to work securely within the tunnel between the local and remote systems:
- CLI: A standard command line terminal,
- FS : Add (mount) a remote folder into the local system or remove (unmount) it,
- VNC: Operate the desktop of a remote system,
- VPN: Join or leave a remote network.
Each of the ways may be used alone, or together in any combination.
Accessing remote resources on the local system can be done in two ways:
- Make an ad hoc connection by manually inputting the information for each session,
- Create and save a profile that may be selected manually or automatically for a session.
Providing local resources to remote systems can make use of an admin/info centre. Via a simple point-and-click menu it presents ways to report on, and manage, the resources being served.
The primary goal of the suite is to access resources on unattended remote systems. Instead of leaving the server system in a state where a user is permanently logged in, it may be left at its log in screen. A standard log in may be performed by a user physically present at the server location, or a user connecting over a network. This avoids the increased security risk of leaving the server system logged in but unattended.
USABILITY
The suite is designed with simplicity of operation in mind. Users are not presumed to have an in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of setting up a system-to-system connection. Someone with limited technical skills is able establish secure, encrypted tunnels with just a few clicks. The suite performs well on both ancient and modern systems. Each suite component is extremely lightweight in the demands it places on the system CPU and RAM. This minimalistic approach means the suite is able to run on a very wide range of kit.
The suite is self contained. Except for an ISP, connections across the internet do not depend upon the availability of third party services. Creation of external facilities or registration with their providers are not required. Additional financial commitment is not needed.

Topic: Post your ps_mem.py stats
antiX comes with a very useful script called ps_mem.py. This shows memory usage and must be run as root user.
For fun, post the output in a root terminal, at idle desktop ie just after booting to desktop with no apps running.
Here is mine, running antiX-17 64 bit, herbstluftwm.
