      2007 mac! I’ve never used one, but the specs look better than my 2009 studio for sure.

      Your ’10hh1′ addition cracked me up! unintentional or not:)
      I make only a few changes at a time in the config. Nothing like going to town on menuconfig for an hour or more just to have a nice blinking cursor in the end. If that.

      My images are coming out at around 6.6 MB with the 4.17rc-1 release.

      If “make menuconfig” is what you are using (and I prefer it myself), you might want to look at “make xconfig”. Xconfig has a couple extra dependencies but the format is worth checking out. I’ve just gotten very used to the prior.

            PS. AntiX 16 uses a older version of xorg. Comprende? Because one is Jessie. The other is Stretch.
            To clarify a little better. A old IBM 390E would probably run better on some old puppy 3.0 version or AntiX version 6 or 7. Than a modern operating system that ignores that type of gear now. So newer does not mean better.

            Just teaching you since you are asking. One expects to work harder when reviving older computers. Now this one. So Far. Is not as picky as my IBM T23. It don’t care what I throw at it.

              Hi. I recently downloaded the .deb file for Citrix Receiver from the Citrix website. I installed it using Gdebi. After logging in to my jobs website, Citrix Receiver crashes. I’ve tried it a number of times and get the same result. It does not give me any kind of error. I’ve pasted my system info below. I setup the system as Testing when I installed it. Has anybody seen this problem?

                Hi,
                Based on tip in this thread, I tried Firefox 59 (quantum). Wow.

                Desktop with 1 GiB mem, 2.1 GB swap partition, 2-core intel atom 1.6 GHz.
                OS: antiX 17

                Speedwise, ff 59 makes this wimpy machine tolerable. Browsing response
                is noticeably improved over ff 52 ESR, the out-of-box default for antix17.
                ff 59 hasn’t crashed or misrendered yet, and I’ve been using since Apr 4,
                2018 when I heard about it (thanks wildstar84).

                One does need to get audio working with ff 59 manually.

                To others with such wimpy machines considering antiX: if you can, give
                the OS some swap. Best is a raw partition on hard disk rather than a swap
                file on some filesystem. This allows the OS to move inactive pages out of
                RAM to disk (paging), freeing more RAM for the active tabs of browsing.
                Idea: have AntiX installer suggest a swap partition if RAM is less than
                1.5 GB and user intends to attempt “heavyweight” browsing?

                To antiX captains: thanks for soliciting community input. firefox 59 and
                pulseaudio are good. The “base” iso file fitting on CD (not DVD) is good.
                One can always install more/different software later via GUI or CLI.

                  Hi guys,

                  update on my 32 bit machine:

                  Distro: antiX-16.1_386-full Berta Cáceres
                  Type: Laptop System: Acer product: Extensa 5220
                  Dual Core model: Intel Core2 Duo T7500
                  (3 GB RAM, 120 GB SSD )

                  4.9.91.antix.1 kernel
                  Total fail! 🙁
                  System now needs up to two minutes until login screen (with 4.4.109 it took around 30 seconds)
                  External mouse doesn’t work anymore. Sound cracks. A few seconds later the whole system freezes.
                  No good!

                  4.4.125.antix.1 kernel
                  Works perfect! 🙂
                  No issues so far, boot time around 33 seconds.
                  Good job! 🙂

                    I’ll be using the desktop computer again after some weeks, so for the present I’m testing the wifi issue on a live usb with persistence, on my laptop. I installed all the packages I had installed to the desktop installed system. Afterwards:

                          AntiX 17 system still down.

                          for comparison on my LXDE Debian laptop install which is close to AntiX 17 but somewhat heavier
                          laptop is about 11-12 years old

                          cpu= celeron m
                          Ram= 1 gig

                          cpu load= 2-3%

                          Firefox-esr + Htop
                          Ram=600-700mb
                          cpu load=70-100%
                          some swap usage, it stays below 5mb

                          Qupzilla + Htop
                          Ram=302mb
                          cpu load=2-3% with some spikes that do not exceed 37% load

                          Netsurf + Htop
                          Ram= not checked
                          cpu load=2-3%

                          I would say if you see high cpu load on your system don’t doubt the numbers.

                              I finally did a build up from core, I used IceWM and roaming WiFi. I did it on the old Dell D620. I should be able to get memory used to about 65.0 mb. I’m at 71.0 mb now, but that’s using Xterm and 5 getty sessions, no Conky, no Background. I just wanted to see if I could get it to work…

                              I didn’t have major problems. The worst problem was getting X to run when not root, needing to add 2 lines to /etc/X11/Xrapper.config.

                              allowed_users=console

                              I will see if I can get the history and a memory readout next time I bring up the browser. I suppose its not totally realistic with no conky or screensaver, but it was quite an adventure to get it loaded and get X windows to come up and work.

                              =================================

                              So what did I install on top of core? I use a program called comm to compare the antix install list to a current list, and what wasn’t there in core is listed here. My notes say I should (ie untested at this point) be able to process add list onto a core install with:
                              xargs -a pkgschgd.add.txt apt-get install`

                              Too bad I haven’t been able to figure out how to port ksnakeduel to a non-kde environment. It really brought a lot in with it. But I like playing it, oh well.

                              Menus are working, but many programs aren’t on them. Haven’t investigated that, yet.

                              I don’t like the standard theme, wish I had my rollup shade windows, oh well.

                              Anyway, for one evening’s work I did fairly well…

                              Anyone know a way to take this list and remove from it all the packages required by any other on the list?

                                If the disk is encrypted you will need the “cryptmount” package to mount them.

                                cryptmount is a utility for creating encrypted filesystems & swap partitions
                                and which allows an ordinary user to mount/unmount filesystems
                                without requiring superuser privileges.

                                which says you don’t need sudo.

                                  Working here as well on 2009 studio 1737

                                  -Changed /etc/default/grub

                                  -Had swap already so no need to change fstab for me

                                  -added file in etc.

                                  -added files to /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/lib and made executable

                                  -updated grub and initramfs

                                  put an option in my fluxbox menu — [exec] (Suspend) {sudo pm-suspend}

                                  Excellent! Thank you for taking the time to get this going! Both suspend and hibernate work here, but no suspend-hybrid. eh..sokay
