Back with my HP-14, which was built in 2021, ten years later than the Thinkpad X201.
Neither of them have the backlit keyboard that I prefer (and use on my Acer Chromebook 715 and my Dell Inspiron 5558).
This system is the newest; this and the Chromebook are comparable in speed and overall feel and responsiveness.uptime; free -h;bin/pinxi -v4 08:47:06 up 13 min, 1 user, load average: 0.01, 0.02, 0.00 total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 7.1Gi 310Mi 6.5Gi 1.0Mi 259Mi 6.6Gi Swap: 7.8Gi 0B 7.8Gi System: Host: brian-antix-hp-14fq1025nr Kernel: 6.1.8-x64v3-xanmod1 arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 12.2.0 Desktop: IceWM v: 3.3.0 Distro: antiX-21-runit_x64-full Grup Yorum 30 October 2021 base: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) Machine: Type: Laptop System: HP product: HP Laptop 14-fq1xxx v: N/A serial: <superuser required> Mobo: HP model: 887C v: 59.11 serial: <superuser required> UEFI: AMI v: F.18 date: 11/26/2021 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 40.6 Wh (99.8%) condition: 40.7/40.7 Wh (100.0%) volts: 12.7 min: 11.3 model: HP Primary status: not charging CPU: Info: 6-core model: AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics bits: 64 type: MT MCP arch: Zen 2 rev: 1 cache: L1: 384 KiB L2: 3 MiB L3: 8 MiB Speed (MHz): avg: 1991 high: 2100 min/max: 1400/4056 boost: enabled cores: 1: 2100 2: 2100 3: 2100 4: 2100 5: 1396 6: 1499 7: 2100 8: 2100 9: 2100 10: 2100 11: 2100 12: 2100 bogomips: 50309 Flags: avx avx2 ht lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 sse4a ssse3 svm Graphics: Device-1: AMD Lucienne vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: amdgpu v: kernel arch: GCN-5 bus-ID: 03:00.0 temp: 37.0 C Device-2: Chicony HP TrueVision HD Camera type: USB driver: uvcvideo bus-ID: 1-3:3 Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.20.11 driver: X: loaded: amdgpu unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa dri: radeonsi gpu: amdgpu resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz API: OpenGL v: 4.6 Mesa 20.3.5 renderer: AMD RENOIR (DRM 3.49.0 6.1.8-x64v3-xanmod1 LLVM 11.0.1) direct-render: Yes Network: Device-1: Realtek vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: rtw89_8852ae v: kernel port: f000 bus-ID: 01:00.0 IF: wlan0 state: up mac: d8:80:83:b7:f8:bd Drives: Local Storage: total: 238.47 GiB used: 33.57 GiB (14.1%) ID-1: /dev/nvme0n1 vendor: Toshiba model: KBG40ZNV256G KIOXIA size: 238.47 GiB temp: 22.9 C Partition: ID-1: / size: 47.76 GiB used: 33.53 GiB (70.2%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/nvme0n1p3 ID-2: /boot/efi size: 256 MiB used: 42.4 MiB (16.5%) fs: vfat dev: /dev/nvme0n1p1 ID-3: swap-1 size: 7.81 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/nvme0n1p6 Info: Processes: 250 Uptime: 13m Memory: 7.1 GiB used: 568.6 MiB (7.8%) Init: runit runlevel: 2 Compilers: gcc: 10.2.1 Packages: 1825 Shell: Bash v: 5.1.4 pinxi: 3.3.24-8--

Experimenting some more with Legacy OS 2023; as with our antiX releases, I was able to find a 4.9 kernel in the boot menu, so I tried it today on this old system and it’s working well.

Do you have backups of any of this stuff?
What would happen if you use the ENTIRE disk for your antiX installation – is that possible?
I’m thinking if you can somehow SAVE the stuff from your other antiX19 environment, maybe you can just use one partition for the software and possibly another one for swap, and that’s it. If you have a way to save what’s there, or if you already have something saved, try that and see if it helps.
If not, I’m also suspicious about the drive itself. Maybe it’s getting quite a few bad blocks. Check that possibility too and work around it if necessary.

The xanmod1 kernel received it’s update today; I’ve been running it for a little while; functionality appears to be intact as usual.
The antiX regular updates have been modest; mostly an occasional Web browser or utility program update; as always, it’s quite solid and usable for me.In the entire history of this project I can’t remember more than one instance of even an early Alpha build malfunctioning; even that I’m not positive if that was a MEPIS or a antiX build; all projects in this family have been REALLY solid, and even during changes the core functionality works, and our efforts are primarily in making all of the features perform as expected. I’m very grateful for both the MEPIS/MX Linux and antiX projects. To me they set the standard for software excellence and even with a very small team the efforts rival the very best software, not that we have the most features, we simply have features that work well.
Here’s a report on a system in the middle of every day active use –

Hello everyone, you are idols! I am a farmer-gardener cook, I am an anti-fascist, I am a standard user, I have a small son, I live that political economic mess that is widespread in the Western world with its crazy price increases.
I know how to install your ISO and change a couple of settings to make it usable in most of the computers of those around me, I use antix from version 19, I use antiX with three users on netbook atom+2gb+swap+ssd (2008) and work with MX on celeron+1,33gb+swap+ssd (2013). I have something to say, related to antiX23_full:
– zzz-icewm at startup whit zzzfm as default whit all the magic possible (or just icewm whit zzzfm as default + magic), less themes for icewm is good (a quick link to pling in control center?)
– Menù: reduce primary tree (use more branch), move select application at bottom, relegate in applications>antix>”antix-live” what could stay there (or remove it completely from view), keep kill-app (add in description a shortcut for that)
– Toolbar: make a shortcut to navigate it! Make it simple to know that. (Make it changeable/rearrangeable on control center – seems more reasonable)
– Package installer: Telegram, Parental Control (in some form or another), Games (peoples likes use old hardware for emulation and Marcelocripe have done some work on it), Mx-cleanup-clone (maybe in control center), Poedit 3.1 or higher
– make a massive use of control center, i love to use it!
– Search-bar: make it costumisable! (Transifex needed, Google noooooo, maybe tonvid, who knows what else)
– ytfzf doesn’t work for me whit thumbnail and all the functions I can see online: that’s personal but if it can be implemented that would be great!I don’t mind a response specific to my message cause everything I’ve said comes whit no clue how to do it…
… it’s just a list of suggestions from one “bare minimum” user whit “bare minimum” knowledge [even if, here on antixforum, “bare minimum” seem more suitable for the pro users, you know what I mean]
What I’ve said remains related to full edition, and where possible can be implemented in other wm. Are they all really needed in ISO? I don’t know. Maybe some can go on packages installer to lighting the download size? Don’t worry about that one!Just yesterday I’ve fired up a sony vaio pcg-f804 (2004) on 512mb whit live CD of antiX-21_base set it on zzz-icewm for something like 100mb. (Old win Xp machine of my father in the hand of my brother) It’s feasible! Realistically, who want more than that whit less ram (surely) is capable to do that gui or not gui. If the focus (for development and community) is bring more user here reviving theirs old machines my literal suggestion is: point to 80-90% of the machines that 80-90% of possibile new comers can have (and in 80-90% of the cases upgrade esaily/cheaply, like a stick of old ram a cheap ssd). That should guide the development of antiX23_full.
