Revisiting the idea of using other really minimal web browsers with the forum: yes, for example, I can get to the forum with either links2 or netsurf; both get me in. Neither of them, however, provide me with a sufficiently easy to navigate interface; it’s difficult to locate things like the Forum pulldown; netsurf shows Forum, but when I used it, I did not see the pulldown feature for Recent Posts, Latest Topics, etc. If it’s there, it’s not intuitive to me where to find it. Similarly links2 gets to the site quickly, and for reading text rapidly it’s great, but for navigating WordPress forums such as ours, it’s far from ideal. Dillo is a great tool for reading plain text, such as some of our simple help files, but beyond that, it’s unfair to expect a lot; what it was designed to do it does well, as does links2 and even netsurf, but there’s no way any of them keep pace with all of the modern Web features, especially when you have highly customized CSS, or even very recent Javascript or some other recent web display interface.

SeaMonkey doesn’t even offer everything unless you add on additional capabilities, but it DOES do enough to work well with our forum, and also the couple of webmail accounts I use. Same with Palemoon. As has been mentioned, it’s possible to add additional capabilities to either browser, and it’s also possible to recompile either SeaMonkey or Palemoon to either include or exclude capabilities in order for them to work with newer or older systems and content.

After a while of using antiX, and now after using Firefox Release 109.0, Firefox Developer Edition 110.b2, and Firefox Nightly 111.0a1 (2023-01-18) (64-bit), plus a few quick visits to links2, elinks, and netsurf, the following resources are currently in use after quite a bit of activity on and off here today.

Regarding the browsers, as a common example of my typical usage, today I’m using the Firefox Developer Edition. The new release came out this week, and I already have the next update on this one; today the version number is 110.0b2 (64-bit).

Similarly Firefox Nightly is 111.a1 and it’s updated daily until functional freeze, then it goes to the next version, so Nightly typically shows two release numbers greater than the release, Developer Edition and Beta Edition show one release number greater than the release.

I may go over to SeaMonkey, but since I’m on the forum and webmail, this Developer Edition is running fine; I also tried two different sites with at least audio, one with audio and video, and this Firefox Developer Edition handled both of them accurately, and delivered the requested media.

With active use of the browser and multiple tabs, here is the current resource use, along with unseasonably warm weather. It was very foggy here early this morning; it’s mostly cleared up, but with a cloud and fog cover, there wasn’t much radiated cooling overnight, and as the fog has, for the most part, cleared, we have a nice winter day, MUCH warmer than any usual temperatures for this time of year. Looking at the temperatures in various Texas communities, it’s warm there, so other Southerners, like my pal rokytnji, also have warm weather today.

Tuesday afternoon, January 17, 2023: Firefox has released their Version 109.0 release, and their Development (Beta) and Nightly versions are now updating in preparation for the next release. I already updated my personal copy of Firefox Release to Version 109.0, and I’m now running the updated Development release at Version 110.0b1. There are nine development and beta releases; this is the first one.

As far as my information updates, here is the update after running a while

              I finally did it!!!

No more Windows BSODs! (I’m going to see how long I can keep this 1st session running lol)

Installed AntiX to disk… now running from said install. (had another glitch with the live… so I decided to go for it)

                techore, this is Peter.

All seemed to be well when I installed to my Alienware M15x laptop, but I had no network at all, ethernet or wifi.
Found a solution here: Network solution
                Running this code worked:
                sudo sysctl -w net.ipv4.ping_group_range="0 1000"

Here is my inxi -Fxz details:

This one works like a charm on antiX 22 (apt-upgraded from an antiX 21 USB stick, now systemd- and elogind free) in basic functionality. No issues, even resume after suspend to ram works properly out of the box on this 5.10.142 antiX kernel. Not checked by now: Audio input. Noticed wrongly labeled sliders in alsamixer, mostly no slider does what it is labeled, but something else instead. Unfortunately it doesn’t have classic TV-out and no S-Video in and out. Also wrong detection of screen resolution, should be 2560×1440 instead of 2048×1152, both graphics board and monitor do support the 2560×1440 resolution, but it is not recognised by X and I can’t switch to it. Will have to work on it until everything works finally. As usual, it will take long time probably…

( @ModdIt : Finally got it running. Many thanks for your effort last year! )
