No need to apologise, it wasn’t you driving this 2GB RAM Notebook into swapping
Phew! I felt awful so thanks for putting me right 🙂
Apparently my HP G60 has 2+1 = 3GiB RAM – Wow..! because back then there was a surplus of 1.0GiB Memory boards.
Though I have not attempted video editing 🙂

I believe you need to be member of group saned as well to make it work. Your sudo sand-find-scanner screenshot shows, there was a USB scanner found when running the command sudoed.
P.S.:
I apologise for interrupting your workflow and putting you into the Swap Zone
No need to apologise, it wasn’t you driving this 2GB RAM Notebook into swapping. If you looking carefully you’ll notice there is plenty of free RAM left while the screenshot was taken and edited. No, this had happend before, when I experimented with Pulseaudio on this system. And as you can see on my screenshot, this pulse thing has parked its traces everywhere on the system, and they won’t get reset after uninstalling pulse; there are two pulse related groups still present. And mpv now constantly needs explicitely called with mpv –audio-device=alsa, otherwise it tries to access a nonexistent pulse device, resulting in no sound… But that’s all not relevant here.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Here’s what you are looking for (see attached screenshot). Start at No. 1.) and just follow the lines. It does exactly what caprea pointed you to already with the groups command on console, just in GUI, if you prefer it this way.
Hi Robin – thanks for the easy to follow picture guide to the group management 🙂
I apologise for interrupting your workflow and putting you into the Swap Zone – this is very kind of you.
As I said I closed without altering anything and have done so again. I clicked and chose user Andy – I could see that it looked the same as yours with scanner and user ticked. Trust this is okay? Or have I missed something?
BTW I had never seen this window before – see attached.

Hi all
I have an old Dell laptop that I use to distro hop. I tend to stick with the same distro for around a year or more.
I’ve tried, but failed, to install Antix and MX Linux (not at the same time).
In both cases, the installation fails. It starts to format the hard drive and stops at 12% with the message in this title.
For now, I’m using Xubuntu, although I’d really like to try Antix, which I’ve used in the past.
inxi -Fxzd gives me the following:

I agree @seaken64: PBR with GPT partitions is the way to go if you want multiple modern partitions; it’s also more complex.
OLD style one or two partition stuff – root and swap with MBR – don’t even NEED EFI/UEFI IF you are using it for ONLY antiX, and that way it also doesn’t matter whatsoever WHICH boot loader happens to be used – any boot loader, the smaller and faster, the better, is the way to go in that case!

Hi @zortenusta,
if your PC has enough RAM you can run antiX “toram” (boot options) without mounting any storage device.
AT shutdown, the RAM is cleaned.
And, it could be possible to unplug the usb-key after booting operation : must be confirmed.
Otherwise use a live-CD/DVD and doesn’t mount any storage device.
There is a secure-delete package that offers to securely delete not only files and directories but also free space, swap and RAM.
Friendships.

My Compaq laptop previously was running Vista. The microphone and camera worked fine with Zoom.
I recently installed antiX 22. Now, the internal integrated microphone will work for shot periods of time on Zoom. Google Meet the mic will not work at all. A USB headset with mic will work consistently on Zoom but not at all on Google Meet.

Dell Latitude D620 laptop with antiX 22 (64 bit)
Forum Admin

What is your plan with the NUC? Home theater PC? Seems like it would be a good form factor to attach to a large TV with Kodi or other media software.
I already did that with a Dell 755 Tower running MX 21 Fluxbox . I use my bookmarks and password login for my roku accounts online.
That Dell was free from city hall when they upgraded their servers. Had to upgrade Windows so the Dell was going to the dumpster.
I have the ancient nvidia card working on that box with the nvidia 390 driver. So watching movies is a breeze on that old server.
I watched Hell or High water
Right now. Just concentrating on getting it to display and boot something on it. See what works and what does not. See if efi partition is gone.
Stuff like that. Check bluetooth and stuff. AntiX for sure though. Kodi not needed since wife pays for roku account. External hard drive will be 500 GB.
To makeup for the small ssd. I won’t need it to automount though. Pretty simple stuff at first. Not sure yet what hunt I will sic that dog on. Land line for right now.
Could become wireless and moved to the shop later. Never played with NUC before. Virgin Territory.
Sorry I am hijacking your thread Brian. Bad admin !!!!!!!
Bedtime now. Knowing me. I won’t lose any sleep over it.
Edit. To stay on point

Fantastic! Glad you got antiX 21/22 installed.
I pulled my Athlon XP out today to confirm that antiX 21 wworks. It does. But the internal WiFi does not work. I started up with MX-18 also and it is working fine with a USB dongle.
This old system is almost capable as a daily driver. I can also use SMTube and Streamtuner to watch YT videos.
Here’s the inxi when logged in to MX-18:

Note that this version of the Athlon XP supports SSE2. I use SeaMonkey mostly. But Palemoon is also good.

Here’s a throwback. An Athlon XP with 1.25MB RAM, 32-bit, single core.
I was reading yesterday that someone was installing antiX to an Athlon XP so I decided to pull this old machine out and see what it can do. I do have antiX-21 running on it but I am currently here with MX-18. I am still setting up antiX 21 with wifi. The already installed MX was a little easier to get working today.
I do not like the keyboard on this thing. I’m used to Lenovo and Thinkpad. Making a lot of errors. But I have confirmed the backspace key works! The built-in wifi is also flakey. I had to use a USB dongle. And the LCD screen has some vertical lines in it. But it is not too distracting. I keep this machine around for testing.
Using SeaMonkey to access the forum. Not “snappy” but quite acceptable.

Good afternoon wise folks of the forum.
Since installing or running live ANY Distro, I found that I can’t drag and drop with my touchpad.
In MX Linux I tried the option to use the other “thingy” for a touchpad ??driver??
That didn’t work.
Here in AntiX, I’m lost not even a clue where I could start looking for making changes. And as keyboard shortcuts don’t work either, I’m forced to used dragging the mouse way more.
A little side topic, in MX I could choose a theme with THICK borders, to make changing windows easier. Didn’t find it here either, that’s something I really seem to need as I can’t find the spot with a USB mouse either.
For the quick info, I found that
sudo inxi -zv7
is getting blocked, -b or normal -zv7 don’t get blocked in THIS part of the forum. Normal -zv7 didn’t work in the introduction part of it.
inxi -zv7
