Hmmm
Looking at your specs. Sounds close to what I used to run.

Those clamshells came with older, cheap, phison ssd cards with zif connector for hard drive.
A
inxi -zv7might shed some light on how it is partitioned and used. You might be experiencing hard drive screwups.
I used to format my replacement kingston 60 gig ssd as ext2 with no swap because that drive could not handle journaling.
Used live session antiX gparted to fix corrupt drive and file system when turned off improperly like the battery dying while using it.
I see you are running off a flash drive.
How fast is it?https://www.binarytides.com/linux-test-drive-speed/
Bad thing is. With usb 2 ports. Limitations kick in no matter how good the drive because of age of gear.
I ran antiX 8.2 like you on flash drive also while keeping xandros on internal drive. This was on eeepc 900 though.
Terminal never froze on me then either. My tutorial is now out of date. As mounting is handled now by blkid instead of /dev/sdxxx.

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problemsSeptember 18, 2022 at 3:54 pm #89278In reply to: How Do I Install Antix on an Existing Partition?

You want to leave the xp partition alone (don’t use it as root, home or swap – leave it blank). On the far upper right it looks like a way to create a partition – the plus sign. According to the latest screenshot, you don’t have any partitions for antiX yet. So make one for root. You’ll probably want one also for swap, and possibly for home.

Thank you very much marcelocripe. Those links look useful, even if I have already used AntiX on 3 machines already (and been very happy).
The only options shown in the AlsaMixer are – default, 0 HDA Intel PCH, and 1 USB Camera. Default is Pulse Audio but it is not started as you can see below. I took it out of the startup to rule it out as a possible source of the problem.
There is simply no Analog device listed where I think there should be.

Hi all,
Trying out the cli-installer inside VirtualBox.
For simplicity, I plan to put all the folders within a single partition and setup a second partition for swap.
This means that the user home will be a subdirectory rather than it’s own separate partition. A partition is supposed to have a type identifier. There are separate identifiers for “linux root”, “Linux root verity””Linux /usr”, “Linux /usr verity” and “Linux home”. Does it matter which of these I use for this “all-in-one” partition? If so, do I have to use one of the the “Linux root” types?
**For my initial try, since there are both root and user folders and files involved, I opted for type 20 (Linux Filesystem).
An additional question is – on a virtual machine install, do I need to set up a small UEFI partition or is this done automagically by cli-installer? (I thought I saw a reference to this when I launched the iso in VirtualBox, and I see that the “first” partition starts at sector 2048 so this seems likely.
Thanks for clarification

I’m here using a Live USB with antiX 21 and I’m setting it up with one of the flavors of Frugal persistence and see how well it goes today.
I set my inxi.conf to allow me to update it here, so this is what we have right now, including the browser running:

Well, since I KNEW that this system COULD handle 4.4, 4.9, 4.14, and 4.19 kernels PLUS 5.x kernels, I got tired of trying to find out what broke; having two other antiX 21 USB sticks, I simply REINSTALLED; now I have:

The FOLLOWING COPY of my previous post is PROOF that our 5.10 series of kernels USED to work GREAT on my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop, just as I thought:

Agree with christophe, I ran live only for months. Best to my mind is remaster after
any major changes and save important files to another USB stick as well as the one in
use.
Make a swap partition on the internal drive and do not use persistence. You would have
Live USB storage as data area.A good 64 GB USB stick is pretty cheap these days, as you presumably have an EEPC
with device soldered to the board a far better option. If internal used a lot and
goes defective the device is likely unusable. I look for sticks with a minimum of
5 year manufacturer warranty. Mostly use Trancend after some unpleasant trouble
with san disk. Maybe fake drives but unconfirmed. Replaced by amazon.September 13, 2022 at 5:23 pm #88792In reply to: What are you “here” with today?

The following is not my asset. I wish!
This is an example of an HP Linux certified workstation which is designed for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu LTS. Unfortunately, $$$, and way beyond my budget, but I thought it would be interesting to see how anitX core would run on it.

Hi all,
Trying out the cli-installer inside VirtualBox.
