I moved over to antiX 23 Beta 1 so we have a relative comparison between antiX 22 and antiX 23; I’m pretty sure they are minimal; I have nearly identical software applications installed and they feel similar in use.
For what it’s worth, occasionally I have inexplicable instances where I can’t use or select the text widget in a Web browser and it even seems to freeze – when I am using MX Linux 21.3, but this has never happened during the entire antiX 21 – 23 lifecycle. It’s sporadic and it’s not a constant thing with MX Linux either, but I’ve experienced it a few times, NEVER here.
Too bad I’ve not been able to isolate or determine the root cause; I’d like to see it fixed if I could help in any way.
As for us, all is very well!

I’m here today with antiX 22, after running Debian Sid (surprisingly no package changes), EndeavourOS, and MX Linux – which I currently have set up to control my boot loader because it is stable AND I use it as such – very little experimenting.
Of course antiX is stable too, but both the release version and the Beta 1 version are systems where I experiment a lot. Most of the time the experiments are safe – but not always, and that’s why I’ve chosen another system to host the boot loader. However, I do actually set up a boot loader on most of my systems; I just don’t write all of them to the MBR (at least not on this hardware; I HAVE done that on other systems and it actually works; it still allows me to have a default boot loader or press the boot function key at startup to navigate and select another boot loader. While these are not the kind of things most users should even consider, if you happen to be a wild experimenter with enough experience to reinstall and/or reconfigure when you introduce a disaster, and you have appropriate measures in place to backup and recover your work, then my bias is to experiment and learn; that’s how I figured a lot of things – I deliberately went past the normal boundaries to determine the extent of what’s possible and what’s not possible, so I found out that boot loaders can be numerous; I’ve also used GRUB, refind, syslinux and other loaders on the same hardware and these will also work, though it’s possible to obliterate data if you are not appropriately cautious – I’ve gone wild with that in the past too!
Anyway, this current setup is reasonably peaceful and it interoperates well with the other systems on the same hardware.
This is the current information for the current release on my HP-14 laptop:

Decided to do a fresh install and no more issues with fsck – why? because I chose automated install. I normally like to setup / on 80 Gb at start of drive, then create and Extended (Logical Partition) with swap at the end and everything in front as /home. Anyhoo, back to normal!

@rokytnji – I’m a bit jealous that you have better results with the 5.10.153-antix.1-amd64-smp kernel than I’ve had.
My HP-14 won’t work with it at all unless logging in and running without a network counts as “working”, and my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop is the one that’s worked so well with so many different things – EXCEPT the 5.10 kernel, which has strangely given it problems from day 1, whether it’s a Debian version, an MX version, or an antiX version. The really exasperating factor is that from time to time it’ll work, but it’s just not reliable, and I can’t deal with that because I’m constantly reading, viewing, or testing something somewhere. My wife prefers watching the TV; I prefer research, analysis and testing; that’s how my brain is wired I guess! At the moment I’m here with this environment, though I’m getting 6.2.14 version kernels installed on most of my distributions today –

Title: Need help with WiFi connectivity issue on antiX 22
Message:
Hello everyone,
I’m having trouble connecting to my WiFi network on antiX 22. Every time I try to connect, I get an error message that says “Agent request Failed: Theagen request failed before a reply was returned.” When I dismiss this message, I see another error that says “Connman Error: Conman returned the following error: invalid-key. Would you like to retry?”
I’m certain that I’m entering the correct password for my network, I’m able to connect to my phone’s hotspot without any issues. I made sure all the drivers are up to date, such as system.
I’m also concerned about some changes I made in the Control Center under Maintenance > NetworkAssistant > Linux Drivers. I allowed all the blocked listed drivers/files, but I’m not sure if this was the right thing to do, or if it could cause any problems.
PS: If anyone was able to connect a Logitech Keys Mini (bluetooth keyboard) please let me know.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey all,
It looks like I’m “necrobumping” my own post, but I wanted to share that I’ve more or less succeeded in what I had set out to do initially:
I’ve gone frugal on a separate partition on an otherwise Windows machine. I had been experiencing difficulties:- The hard drive was encrypted (some kind of Windows machine factory default), so I had to remove the encryption via a menu selection which let me do it,
even though the de-encryption itself was somewhat lengthy. This is how I could even make the separate partition to begin with. - I almost wasn’t able to boot from a USB stick, since there are a few subtle BIOS settings that have to be toggled before you may do so, one of them being the “Windows fast startup” setting that @girafenaine mentions, which has to be disabled.
I know at first I said I wanted to keep things in the Windows partition, but in the end I was OK with creating a separate antiX-Frugal partition.

Hi Robin, BobC,
Nice work, only issue for me is google cloud. do you think it would be feasible to setup an upload to
a Nextcloud instance such as run by disroot.org. Free is 2GB, enough for swapping files etc. Privacy respecting
and within EU.
Privacy is though pretty much a dead duck these days. Including in Netherlands.I think while convenient google does not fit my views nor is it really fitting to antiX.
decentralized cloud-based service that allows you to store your files and communicate with one another.
Established by a privacy-focused organization of volunteers.Disroot as an email provider stands out thanks to its emphasis on security with a completely free open-source approach.
Email has a free base account, more can be obtained by donating, same as cloud space.
Disclaimer: I am a disroot supporter and donor.

Memberscruffyeagle
I have an installation of antiX-21 on an old Dell laptop. It’s had the problem of conky getting wiped off the screen, as soon as the Veracrypt window closes. (This problam hasn’t occurred in my installations of antix-19 &/or antix-22.) I was hoping to avoid doing a full install of antiX-22, and thought that perhaps doing an upgrade from a21 to a22 would fix it…
I used the code “sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade” in a terminal.
Afterward, I used “inxi -Fxxxrz” to verify whether or not the installation had been upgraded. It appears as if it was NOT, because the OS is still being reported as “antix-21_x64-full”, and the problem with conky being wiped off the screen is still continuing.
Here’s the output of “inxi -Fxxxrz”:

Friday OK. Weird weather through the next week, I can count on a El Nino kind of summer. I’d show wttr but our airport server is down.
Leveland Texas is way north of here and wttr defaults to it when confused. https://weather.com/weather/today/l/31.42,-103.49?par=google

Though I was able to get in this forum with links2 and it’s a very efficient browser, it doesn’t provide the “rich” graphical experience of Firefox, Chrome, Vivaldi, Opera, or several of the other “full function” Web browsers. I will say that if resources are a major issue, there is still quite a bit that you CAN do with links2.
Now that I’m using Firefox, it’s a little easier to see what I’m sharing, so here’s the same information I shared a little while ago with antiX 23 Beta 1; you can see the details do look quite similar and the overall experience is similar too.

Dear Wallon, dear PPC,
I do have the very same issue on a default desktop PC with your script @PPC, screen resolution 2560×1440 (TFT-Display) which is obviously not a low resolution at all. Same issue on 1440×900 (LCD-Display) and also on 1024×768 (true Tube monitor). You’d never guess there are hidden some buttons outside the visible field. I even didn’t notice them until reading Wallons posting here. The scrollbars are invisible, you have to guess they exist and try to click on them, before they become visible. And even then all buttons on either right side or left side are constantly cut of, while there would be plenty of space to display them on screen if only the yad window wouldn’t cut them off deliberately. We have had the very same issue one or two years ago already when rewriting unplugdrive. (Please see https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/antix-goodies/-/commit/3ae073e49fafa4df274bf70a0da3747e6affa51f , search the page for the string „Yad main user dialog cuts off parts of the text in dialog box now”) @Xecure had set yad to display with scrollbars on his tiny handheld device, and here’s the result from this attempt on a default desktop pc:

Yad simply is not able to handle this properly for small netbook screens and for default resolution PCs with the very same settings. The really small screens need the special –scroll setting of yad, if they happen to have no precaution for providing scrollability on their own already, while this fails on all normally sized devices. Luckily the solution is pretty simple:
remove the --scroll option from the yad call remove the --width= --height= options from the yad call add the --fixed option to the yad callThen yad will properly display all buttons in all translations with their full text on a default PC monitor.
If you want to have it working for the extra sized really small screens then again with the extra scrollbars, just copy and apply the method we have used in unplugdrive.sh already. Check its code added for the -s –scrollbars command line switch (lines 81, 111 and 439 in ver. 0.93b) . It simply swaps the beforementioned settings of yad when it is called with this switch, so it works by default on default sized screens, and with the -s switch for small screen devices.
Unfortunately I can’t please everyone, every time.
I think it is not an option to let people scroll around in cropped yad windows on default sized devices and then saying you can’t please everyone. The antiX tools need to run on default hardware, and you may add a command line switch for extra small sized devices like netbooks or handhelds.
Best regards

Thank you!
