When I try to update my system I get an error.
Today I did it from smxi and it shows error 100.
It seems to be looking at the Release repository and can’t find it.

Memberstevesr0
Presumably, a motive to upgrade rather than do a fresh install is to keep all the data files one has added. I just installed antiX-21 as a live USB – it was painless and after I have played with it a bit, I expect to install to the hard drive on which my current antiX-17 install lives.
I plan to copy all the data files I want to keep to a usb drive and then copy them back to my home directory after the install of antiX-21 has taken over the space currently used by antiX-17. Since I also have windows installed on this machine in a separate partition, I will obviously have to tell the installer what partitions to use.
I would appreciate any advice about pitfalls to this and suggestions of posts to study. In my current antiX-17 install, I created both a root partition, a home partition and a swap partition. I understand that many just use one partition for all the directories (obviously with separate /root and /home directories) and a swap file instead of a /swap partition.
(While I can – and will look up the ways to do this with the pros and cons of different ways – I figured that this might be something valuable for many noobies who are upgrading from 19 to 21 (and old noobies who might be upgrading from 17 such as me)).

June 30, 2022 at 3:35 pm #85397Topic: Kernel 5.10.x, pc blink 150″ before booting
in forum HardwareMembermadibi
it’s roughly 1 month that the following happens: just after grub, if I choose the main proposal (kernel 5.10.57) the computer stay with a blank screen, blinking for about 150 seconds, then starts with the normal boot that lasts about 40″.
Before it didn’t happened.
After I tried installing from Software Installer the kernel 5.10.104, but the same behavior continued.
The same doesn’t apply to kernel 4.9.0-279.Please find below the hw info:

Tried with Links2, CLI, it’s something in the content of my data, but trying to guess which thing tripped it isn’t really practical.
This is how that’s done [do one block at a time until you find the key word that is tripping it].
Ok, this is a really really stupid filter. The thing that is tripping it is “data + :”. Usually the stupid filter rule is harder to find and more arcane, but in this case, it’s a stupid string filter, to filter data + : on a technical forum, really on any forum, is just typically inept, and why I never use these premade filters. But that’s the key word, it’s s simple string match, nothing difficult or hard to figure out. Yes, I’m stubborn, lol. This is why I donj’t use those types of premade things, there is never any telling just how incompetent the people are who make it.
Last time I hit one of these filter things was an apache security module that had bad default regular expressions, but that was a subtle regex error that was simply too ‘greedy’, and needed to be tightened. That’s actually fairly easy to make a mistake on, this one isn’t, it’s a normal word, with no valid context for removing it by a block. Now you know.
Also, the filter is so badly made that by simply repeating over and over until I found the bad rule, I was able to remove it. A good filter would not show an event had occurred, it would just not post my post, without any explanation, and it most certainly would not let me sculpt my post until it passed the filter. Exactly what I’d expect from junk running on allegedly 4 million sites. And it would have blocked me after the 3rd or 5th try, but it let me go on endlessly. Very low quality. Bad code, bad logic. Exactly what I expect from WordPress related projects.
All sudo inxi -mxxx would trip this I believe if your ram has the width data available..

Dear Developers,
I installed antiX 21 Full on a Sandisk 3.2 usb stick on my old 2008 Asus laptop with 2 GB ram.
I removed the line vm.dirty_bytes by putting the # sign in front of it.
#vm.dirty_bytes = 20000000Now, Google Chrome also works very well for downloading in antiX 21. Look at my screenshot. I have a nice straight line for my 125 mbps download.
I’m going to tell you a secret.
I installed several Linux distributions and checked why other distributions worked well with Google Chrome download. Every time, the dirty_bytes was 0.
I don’t understand all these functions but it has a nasty influence on the speed of antiX.
As I have no answer from the developers, I stop testing.I’m happy to have found the cause of the slowness of Google Chrome on my 2 computers.
I’m also glad I’m back to antiX because the Debian distribution free or not free is very difficult to use. You always have to get out command lines and it doesn’t even always work. I understand the work that is done by the developers to help ordinary users.
Best regards,

Dear Developers,
I found that the antiX 19 Full version on my old Asus laptop from 2008 also had a problem after the updates for the fr_BE version.
Everything was slow, even moving through the menus with the arrow pad.
Google Chrome which always worked well with antiX 19 Full was slow and the download became very bad for the antiX fr_BE version.
I asked for a full info to check if there was a change in my settings.
I found that I had lost the settings for swappiness (by default = 60) and cache_pressure (by default = 100 or 60, sorry, I don’t remember).
So I modified the /etc/sysctl.conf file
I added these two lines at the end of the file (in root mode);
vm.swappiness = 10
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 50On an old copy of sysctl.confOldBackup, there was a third line which I also tested;
vm.dirty_bytes = 20000000
I discovered that this line has a very bad impact on Google Chrome. The download is really bad in Google Chrome.
You have to delete this line or put it as a comment by adding the # sign in front of the line like this;
#vm.dirty_bytes = 20000000This could also be the explanation for the bad speedtest (especially for the download) for antiX 21. I don’t have antiX 21 installed anymore to check.
So, there was an update that modified my “sysctl.conf” file and Google Chrome works fine now on the antiX 19 Full version.
Look at my screenshot with Google Chrome for my old laptop with a 2GB ram. My contract with my internet provider is download 125 mbps and upload 6,5 mbps.
It’s beautiful isn’t it?Best regards,

Here is the current info for siduction on my Acer Aspire 4 A5155-55. For those unfamiliar with siduction, it is a fully functional distribution based on Debian Sid; it’s quite usable, even with the so-called “Unstable” packages. At least in my experience as long as you’re careful to be aware of major change windows where significant infrastructure packaging is undergoing change, and you wait until ALL such changes are available, in other day to day situations this is just as usable and stable, (meaning a reasonable degree of useful software), this works and it’s also reasonably efficient, particularly for a full featured configuration.

Before it didn’t happened.
After I tried installing from Software Installer the kernel 5.10.104, but the same behavior continued.
The same doesn’t apply to kernel 4.9.0-279.Please find below the hw info:
