Today I’m here with MX Linux 21 on my newest hardware after spending a full day with two separate instances of antiX 21 yesterday on my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop.

The Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-55 that I’m using now IS able to BOOT the antiX-21-runit-full-amd64 image BUT it only sees the Ethernet network card, and I have only a few places to go in order to plug in, so I’ve been sticking with the 5558 when I want to get some GOOD TIME in with antiX OR the Lenovo X201; both of them are good systems for antiX; my two old HP systems, a desktop and an old laptop (one of them is SO OLD that it’s actually a rebranded Compaq D5000 series with an HP badge on it); whatever “age” that system is, the DESIGN of that system probably DATES back somewhere between 2000-2007.

By the way, I’m really happy with our “runit” series; it’s been solid and I don’t see any “issues”, and it’s a responsive, lean, usable, effective distribution, and I’ve used it extensively in both Base and Full implementations (haven’t used Net or Core for a few years). In testing going back a few releases, I’ve used other init systems; though I have not tested them recently, we’ve had solid versions of the classic init systems/methods for almost two decades; they’re solid too.

Here’s what my MX Linux 21 setup looks like on my Acer Aspire 5 A515-55 laptop:

            Dear All,

When I do a speedtest with Google Chrome in antiX 21, I always have a bad result for the download test. My curve always collapses. I should have 125 mbps all the time.

If I do the same test with the same Google Chrome version in MX Linux 19.4, my download test is very good and my curve does not collapse.

If I do the same test with the same Google Chrome version in Windows 10, my download test is very good and my curve does not collapse.

Why do I have a bad result with antiX 21? If you have an idea to share…

            Best regards,
            Wallon

              Hi 🙂

Thank you all for your warm and detailled messages. It helps a lot and it’s nice to know there is a nice community to help :). I have a some readings to do, it’s gonna be very useful.

I don’t know if you asked me to post this, but here is my configuration right now on Lubuntu (I just changed the “nouveau” driver for the nvidia-340 and it seems to work much better, but it’s not crazy though):

The pc that I mainly used so far was an old laptop Asus F3Sg from 2008.
It was given to me in 2015, when it was thrown into the air by the owner’s girlfriend who had found photos in it that shouldn’t have existed.
I recovered it and used as a desktop, in fact it had the hinge broken and I couldn’t even close the monitor.

Now it is deadly broken. Sad news for me. It was perfect for my needs 🙁

Now I am with a Toshiba Satellite A110-185

On this old hw I installed FT10-fluxbox (thx @PPC) and more important I found one stick of 2Gb sodimm ddr2, in order to increase the memory. I tried to go up to 4 Gb, unfortunately antiX see only 3 Gb max.

This pc is 2 years older than the broken one and I perceive the difference when I play bullet chess games, where every fraction of second counts a lot. This old system consumes much more time to send out my moves.

I have to try to convince my wife to place a desktop in the dining room, but I’m afraid I will not succeed, because a laptop is the max dimension that I can use in the house 🙂

My other computers are all desktop and are located in the basement, which I have equipped as a “PC laboratory”: at the moment the newest is an i5 1st series, 10 Gram.

i used the filebrowser that is on the desktop, the one that is in the bar at the bottom and the one in the start-menu. all the same. each one I open adds more cpu percentage.

                    here the output:

I’m using siduction right now, a very good Debian Sid based distribution and I’m testing an instance of Firefox Nightly 102.0a1 at the moment.

I’m using my chromebook from 2015. I followed some online instructions, and reflashed the bios, so I could totally remove chrome. Now it runs antiX. (I bought it recently just to do this.)

It has a TINY (16 GB) emmc “ssd,” so I keep my installed apps to the essentials, and run from ram (all my antiXes are “frugal/live”). It’s a pretty good little (& light!) machine.

Today I’m here with antiX 21 runit Base on my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop.
                            I have several kernels installed here;

                            – 4.9.0-279-antix.1-amd64-smp
                            – 4.19.0-222-antix.1-amd64-smp
                            – 5.10.88-antix.1-amd64-smp

Previously I also tried out a few Liquorix kernels here; once upon a time they worked; they don’t work for me here any more since I replaced the original 8 TB HDD with a smaller SSD.

Here’s what I am using today:

                            inxi -Fxz

I was having problems with my Lenovo X201 laptop when I had the dock connected.
The symptoms were that when I started the system, it would work, perhaps for 5-10
minutes, then mysteriously lose the network connection.

Recently I installed EndeavourOS on this laptop and at first it appeared to work.
That made me wonder if there was a defect somewhere in our software.

The longer I ran EndeavourOS, I soon discovered that it also lost connectivity.
Trying out a “process of elimination”, I suspected the unit was “heating up”,
so acting upon that hypothesis, I wondered what I could do.

I lifted up the unit and blew air into the sides, hoping to clear any dust or
debris, or at least reduce it and slightly cool the system.

While that appeared to work for a short time, it didn’t last.

Finally I detached the dock, and instantly the network started working again.
Realizing that this was probably the correct solution to the problem,
I inserted my antiX 21 runit Base disk, which had already been remastered
with the General settings so I could keep an entire configuration.

This also worked, and continued to work.

The last time I was working on this, I ran out of time, so this has
been on my list of things to check out again, so today I booted up
EndeavourOS and again it worked fine, so I rebooted the system
with the antiX 21 runit Base remastered system.

After updating the software on the USB, I installed from the updated
instance and rebooted the system and that’s what I’m using now.
It has all of my user configurations, just as I had created them, plus
it has the updates I made today.

                              Here is the setup:

I’m here with EndeavourOS on my Acer Aspire 5 A515-55. Just updated packages on MX Linux a few moments ago and stopped by on this one to do the same and they are already complete too.

Here are the specs on this system:
