I tried both of these workarounds and the problems I’m experiencing still exist:

      1. Constant flickering of text when scrolling in browser
      2. Occasional flickering of whole screen – these glitches are coming in ‘clusters’ and are almost like a strobe at their worst (good job I’m not epileptic!)

Additionally, I’m having bizarre screen freezing where keyboard input and mouse buttons/scroll wheel don’t work, but mouse still moves cursor. ALT-Shift-F2 does nothing, and neither does CTRL-ALT-DEL. I have to power off machine to restart.

To be honest with you, it’s going to be difficult to use any installed word processor with 992 MB of RAM.
Abiword is as likely as anything to work; otherwise you can try your luck with online tools such as Google Docs; I doubt that you’ll have much better results there, but if you can swap with a large enough swap file or swap partition, maybe it’ll be possible. The tools with antiX give you a chance; hope it does work out for you.

Regarding my connection issue with EEPC netbook. With yet another a fresh live system.

I now have a connection but /var/lib/connman/wifi is not showing the correct password as entered in cmst
I copied the password in to the box to ensure it is correct,

Instead of 1 backslash from the password the config entry shows 4

          Part of password: instead of
          s-?\8tn

          CMST entered s-?\\\\8tn

But I am still getting a connection, Any idea how and why is welcome.
This whole issue is weird. But so is my EEPC, it is the one where I already swapped out the wifi card, before
that it was even more bothersome to connect.

Further to above, password is in clear text, any idea on changing that, i can plug a stick in to most computers
and quickly have access to the users network. Probably a feature demanded by agencys but would be nice if we had it
          encrypted and hidden as standard.

            Hi everyone,
            Since a day I am a proud user of antiX 21 🙂
I have done all updates and rebooted several times but unfortunately I still have a problem.

My screen turns on and off every many times (in a fraction of a half second).
Sometimes not for a minute but sometimes 3 times in a row.
How can I best solve this?

The details of my laptop are:

The new connman fine for me on antiX-21b2 installed. Unrelated, I have to use kernel 4.9 as my Wifi doesn’t work in 5.10 unless I blacklist wl and modprobe b43 (or something like that — I did get it working but did not yet write down the steps and whatever I did broke the way 4.9 was working — they seem to need opposite configs. So I went back to 4.9 for now until I can do more investigation.

I downloaded Clementine using Synaptic it was added to menu, but does not start when clicking on the menu icon.

Was able to start clementine via a terminal, took a while (apx 20 seconds) but opened as I expected. Then terminal message popped up:

On an identical system, I have 2 absolutely identical indistrial PC. 2GB Memory core duo.

The creation updates itself, er anything controlled by those under Patriot act can be installed at any time. Thanks no.

#why would I need to save USB images with customizations over and over again? Once the USB is created,
                  I can keep using it?

Sure but most of us will update it, add new applications, maybe delete some, we just take a minute coffee remaster and happily
get on with whatever we wish to do. Rebooting when we feel like it.

Maybe the questioner wants anchient software full of holes on user devices But advocates a system that can apply updates out of the controll of the user.

                  # Of course USB based OSes – something that only exists and runs from the USB – are slow as molasses. USBs are not meant to handle the writes needed to
                  support a modern OS.

Silverblue is Much slower in use than antiX although antiX is running LIVE from USB, Port is 2.1, red hat creation from internal SSD.
AntiX can be installed to internal disks run frugaly, more important to many it will run without any internal drive quite happily, low memory usage
means in most cases nothing swapping.

USB devices are unable to run that way, many of mine are several years old, I had issues with one, the manufacturer Transcend admitted a controller problem,
provides an online repair tool. I am running from that stick now.

                  So if you instead
move it all to RAM, what’s the point of talking how little RAM is used by the OS running when the FS is all located in RAM too?

Logic is not somebodys strong point, a low rescourse OS leaves expensive hardware free to run applications in the best possible manner.
It also allows older harware to remain in productive use for longer periods. Saves energy all along the lifetime. Saves costs for user,
                  company corporations.

“grandma” won’t have a clue how to use the features you outlined, so even as a low-level user-workstations it seems you’ll need
regular IT help to keep it updated/managed?

Nuts to that statement, my worst user can write update in the console, she does it regularly, she also clicked on to the antix app shop
without issue. She usually runs an installed system, that was done with hand holding, it makes her proud. She also knows if she plugs in
a USB stick called F12, Transcend and taps F12 she can chose Transcend and run her well known and trusted system from that drive.

To the consternation of certain IT Experts she has done so on several occasions, including in a cafe belonging to a senior residence where the
so called admin had an apoplexy attack. Windoze was not running….

something that you can easily instantiate “in the field” Correct, one reason I use antiX daily, for work play troubleshooting and
                  fixing user systems.

and take down again when done, not something you leave behind?

Wrong, whenever possible I work transparently, User or mister super IT expert next to me, I use a stick created
without my specific user settings, ie no E Mail Password etc. It is very rare not to be asked,

where can I buy those tools. Er 4 Euro or a cappuccino good enough.. Pls visit antiX forum bye…..

Some more command readouts might help. I agree about using a newer surface kernel built already for those things. Lucky for me. Not a lot of hoop jumping for my chromebook.

@PPC thanks for the info regarding MX on PI, some rainy day soon maybe I can freeze that one a bit,
I just prefer the ice desktop. Perhaps I just understand its workings better than flux which is also
an excellent alternative. I did take a long look but wanted a one desktop only support mode, laziness, sure.
                      Its a pragmatic model.

The interesting part being the MX tools on PI, using that as a learning base maybe a debian Bullseye image
for PI could be an interesting and fruitful experiment.
What really separates antiX from debian is the removal of pottering madness systemD and pretty unique and very
                      useful toolset.

@ r-chase, the experiment with icewm was in my opinion worthwhile, ice on the PI being way more responsive than
the standard desktop, its lower memory needs pretty much eliminating swapping while using heavy applications such
                      as Gimp and Libreoffice.

                      Background OT:
My idea was to improve the performance of the pi used in my adopted Vietnamese family to a point where it would
be good enough for a schooling device, not just for that family . Part problem was and is Vietnamese Language
support, I was told that is ok now. Pi4 may have solved some performance issues, seems some bottlenecks still
remain due design and lack of decent documentation.

At present a smartphone is the device most in use, VN has closed borders and many areas have been in stay home
mode for last months so no taking some raspi with me, they are silly expensive in VN compared to a phone, if
you can find one that is. Shops try and sell windoze devices on credit because they know customers will be back
when the crap bogs down work due virus and trojan load.

Be nice to change that for at least some familys.

Regarding the recommendation to update the kernel for vulnerabilities:

I apparently have 4.9.0-264 installed. The news item indicates I should update to 4.9.0-279, but I cannot tell which one, there are several listed in Package Installer.

I cannot tell if I have pae or not and which updated kernel I should install, if any.

I have tried all the suggestions listed in the contributions above, with as many variations as I could think of, without success.

So I ducked the problem for the time being at least by regressing to 17.4.1, which I installed without difficulty on 3 partitions, GTP partition table, an ESP fat16 256mb with ESP and Boot flags, a swap 5gb, remainder root/home ext4, a configuration which 19.4 is unable to cope with on this laptop.

Therefore I have to conclude that there is some fatal problem with either the installer, or the program being installed, as the configuration is acceptable to 17.4.1. I was careful to ensure that the updated installer was in use throughout the failed install attempts.

Thanks for all contributions despite the lack of a solution.

I think the issue here is that the partitions are positioned as
                            /(root), swap, /home

So you need to reduce “to the right” the /home partition size (meaning, giving free space “to the left”), make the swap partition bigger “to the right” (gaining the free-space from /home), reduce the swap partition in the same way as you did with /home (give free space “to the left”), and then you would be able to increase the / (root) partition size.

Best solution is start again and use 100% root size, so that you can keep experimenting on the Virtual Machine without running out of space on a specific partition.

I will like to shrink the home size and add the space to the other partition that is 99.8% full.
