Just for understanding: Is this about “chipset” indeed, which would mean Northbridge and Southbridge, or is this about a GPU chipset found in the graphics adapter? I ask this because… I use also a computer equipped with SIS chipset (K7s5a board, with SIS 735 Chipset). And I don’t see any problems running default antiX, at least in live mode from CD/DVD, even using “fromusb” and persistence. BUT this PC doesn’t have a SIS/VIA graphics adapter. Instead it had installed originally a fast Nvidia graphics adapter, which had to be replaced due to breakdown not long ago, and it was changed to a simple AMD graphics device. antiX worked flawlessly as well with nVidia GPU as also with AMD GPU. So I reckon, the problems described cover the use of an SIS/VIA graphics adapter? I’m a bit confused by the thread title, pointing to “chipset”. Why don’t I see the same problems?
(this inxi report was not taken recently, hence it shows 17.4 antiX still:)

Originally running on “Windows 2000 prof”, it slowed down with every system update from some point of time. Finally Microsoft stopped support for their NT5.0/NT5.1 operating systems (aka 2000/XP) completely (at least when you are not a big company or government), and I replaced it by Linux, making the PC work again, as fast as I was used to before they started to slow it down by their upgrading policy. Some years later, some of the ubuntu updates also slowed down the PC noticeably. And then the day came, Canonical told me I couldn’t apply next security update anymore, they sacked support of this PC. This was when I found antiX. And this very PC ran again like a young colt… fast as ever before. So I simply say: thank you!
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

It’s alive! Running full screen youtube smoothly on a Pentium III computer from ~2003 is pretty impressive. Is there an automated way to install any missing packages from the full install of antix(that aren’t being held back)? I am unable to get the tint2 transformation script to run properly on this new install, but honestly an uglier install with decent video performance is better than a prettier one without it.

Hi,
my work-station suffers from random freezes, occasional restarts.
1) Confirmed not to be antiX specific, the freezes also occur in Fedora installed in dual boot.
2) BIOS has been recently upgraded (some information on the internet suggested old[er] BIOS being the issue).
3) Expecting the cause likely being HW-related (also suggested by local IT department).
4) Memory (that was free) tested via ‘memtester’ (few loops only); issue not detected.
5) Power supply is the next candidate.Questions:
Q1) Do you have any other ideas what could be the issue?
Q2) Is there a way how to monitor power-supply from within antiX (best with “logging”, e.g. via a BASH script)?
‘lm-sensors’ does not output the desired info.
This Debian page does not provide straightforward information neither.
I know one can read off temperature from a file contain in (sub-folder of) ‘/sys/[devices/]’ but I did not found anything reasonable there (yet).inxi -Fxz System: Host: jezek Kernel: 5.10.27-antix.1-amd64-smp x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: N/A Desktop: Fluxbox 1.3.7 Distro: antiX-19.2_x64-full Hannie Schaft 27 March 2020 base: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Machine: Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: PRIME B350-PLUS v: Rev X.0x serial: <filter> UEFI: American Megatrends v: 5602 date: 07/14/2020 CPU: Topology: Quad Core model: AMD Ryzen 3 1300X bits: 64 type: MCP arch: Zen rev: 1 L2 cache: 2048 KiB flags: avx avx2 lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 sse4a ssse3 svm bogomips: 27947 Speed: 1510 MHz min/max: 1550/3500 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1341 2: 1444 3: 1461 4: 1494 Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA GK208 [GeForce GT 710B] vendor: Micro-Star MSI GK208B driver: nvidia v: 418.197.02 bus ID: 07:00.0 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: nvidia unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, nouveau, vesa resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GT 710/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 418.197.02 direct render: Yes Audio: Device-1: NVIDIA GK208 HDMI/DP Audio vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 07:00.1 Device-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 17h HD Audio vendor: ASUSTeK driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 09:00.3 Device-3: Logitech 960 Headset type: USB driver: hid-generic,snd-usb-audio,usbhid bus ID: 1-9:3 Sound Server: ALSA v: k5.10.27-antix.1-amd64-smp Network: Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet vendor: ASUSTeK driver: r8169 v: kernel port: f000 bus ID: 03:00.0 IF: eth0 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter> Drives: Local Storage: total: 2.04 TiB used: 932.51 GiB (44.7%) ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Kingston model: SHSS37A240G size: 223.57 GiB ID-2: /dev/sdb vendor: Seagate model: ST2000VN004-2E4164 size: 1.82 TiB Partition: ID-1: / size: 57.42 GiB used: 22.18 GiB (38.6%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda5 ID-2: /home size: 19.22 GiB used: 10.73 GiB (55.8%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda7 ID-3: swap-1 size: 8.43 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/sda6 Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 50.2 C mobo: N/A Fan Speeds (RPM): N/A Info: Processes: 226 Uptime: 50m Memory: 7.77 GiB used: 2.19 GiB (28.2%) Init: SysVinit runlevel: 5 Compilers: gcc: 8.3.0 Shell: bash v: 5.0.3 inxi: 3.0.36June 26, 2021 at 8:24 pm #62362Memberimsoenthused

Hi, just installed antix 19.4 and very happy with it, only issue is that in xrandr the only resolution that appear is 1920×1080, this is what xrandr output:

by the way mmcblk1p3 is ext4
bootrepair relies on the output provided by lsblk command.
Does the following indeed report ext4 ?
/bin/lsblk -o FSTYPE>>>> kept giving me an
errorwarning saying ext2 doesn’t allow embeddinggrepped the sourcecode for the bootrepair program and found zero occurrences of “embed”,
so I websearched “emmc linux ext2 doesn’t allow embedding” and learned the following:You are getting the warning because you are installing grub to a partition instead of the MBR. This means grub can not be embedded in the unused space between the MBR and the first partition. Instead it has to have the list of blocks that /boot/grub/core.img resides in placed into the MBR. This setup is subject to being broken by things like defrag and so is not recommended, hence the warning. Since it is only a warning, you can ignore it.

Decided to fire up the old IBM NetVista X40i after swapping the HDD for an SD Card, still haven’t figured out how to get it to boot properly with the sis driver instead of vesa. Used the script from https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-transformation-pack-min-fluxbox-with-tint2-toolbar-antix-ft-10/page/2/#post-50443 to set up mini-fluxbox with tint2. So far, so good. I’m hoping maybe I can get the video performance a little better in smtube if I can get the sis driver working. No, I’m not expecting miracles, this is just a fun hobby project with an old collector’s item pc.

Good day for all.
I have fresh install of antiX 19.4 x64 on Core2Duo PC w. 4 Gb interleaved RAM, 500 Gb HDD (with no swap partition), dual boot w. Windows under GRUB.
But I can’t see same DE behavior as live system. When login I select “Rox-IceWM” by F1 but DE have absolutely other look. F.e. – not worked graphic menu (all? second levels collapsed), text conky, powering off works only by “sudo halt” in terminal and so on.
What’s going wrong?
I try find some look like post, but find only https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/failed-to-execute-login-command-3/#post-60056. I check appropriate /usr/share/xsessions and this is not my case. Thanks a lot.

When I installed b1-sysvinit and b1-runit, I did not see an option to preserve the /home directory like I saw in previous install versions?
Now it is present in the advanced installation option, when selecting the home partition, you can choose to “Preserve”, the same as for Swap.
Got it. I understand now how it works. Thanks for your help @Xecure.

Dear Xecure,
I found the solution with the new Antix Installer.
So I’m still trying to pretend I don’t know anything about Linux.
I always do a manual installation and choose;
1) my second USB key to do the installation,
2) the SWAP physical partition on the second USB key (sdi1 in my case),
3) the ROOT physical partition on the second USB key (sdi2 in my case).
I checked that the GRUB is always installed on my second USB key and never on the internal SSD in (U)EFI mode. The new Antix Installer selects my internal SSD drive to do a (U)EFI install. (The sda2 in my case).
First solution, in the “Use for” column, you have to put a blank on the internal SSD line and the new Antix Installer will automatically install the Grub on my second USB key (ROOT partition).
Second solution, put manually the mount point with a slash “/” instead of the word “Root”. The Grub will also be installed on the second USB key.
As my MSI motherboard doesn’t allow me to erase mount points on my internal SSD, I don’t like to do a (U)EFI installation. I’ve seen AMD motherboards that have a utility in the “Bios” to very easily erase mount points.
Sincerely,

Hello,
I tested the runit version with the 2 French kernels.
On my Live USB key, there is no icon to install. I redid the tests in French and in French(BE). No icon to do the installation each time. This is not nice because I know that in English (US), the installation icon is present.On the 1st screen of my Live USB key, there is;
UEFI
or
USB Disk
I take the USB Disk optionOn the second screen of my Live USB key, I take the following options;
F2 > French or French (BE), it is the same
Use Legacy or Use Modern, it’s the sameOn the third screen of my Live USB key, I take the following options;
F2 > French(BE)
F3 > Brussels
F4 > noautomount
F6 > space-iceWM

I’ve just started to use my installed instance of antiX-Bullseye-B1. I copied my personal files (home directory tree) from a previous installation.
Right now I’m running this configuration with EXCELLENT results:inxi -Fxz System: Host: antix-bullseye Kernel: 4.9.0-264-antix.1-amd64-smp x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 10.2.1 Desktop: IceWM 2.4.0 Distro: antiX-bullseye-b1_x64-full Grup Yorum 10 June 2021 base: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) Machine: Type: Laptop System: Dell product: Inspiron 5558 v: 01 serial: <filter> Mobo: Dell model: 086DKN v: A00 serial: <filter> UEFI: Dell v: A04 date: 08/06/2015 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 33.9 Wh condition: 33.9/41.4 Wh (82%) model: Samsung SDI DELL 07G07587587 status: Full CPU: Topology: Dual Core model: Intel Core i7-5500U bits: 64 type: MT MCP arch: Broadwell rev: 4 L2 cache: 4096 KiB flags: avx avx2 lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 vmx bogomips: 19155 Speed: 2609 MHz min/max: 500/3000 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 2609 2: 2506 3: 2400 4: 2425 Graphics: Device-1: Intel HD Graphics 5500 vendor: Dell driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 Device-2: NVIDIA GK208BM [GeForce 920M] vendor: Dell driver: N/A bus ID: 08:00.0 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.11 driver: modesetting unloaded: fbdev, vesa resolution: 1366x768~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.1 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 20.3.4 direct render: Yes Audio: Device-1: Intel Broadwell-U Audio vendor: Dell driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00:03.0 Device-2: Intel Wildcat Point-LP High Definition Audio vendor: Dell driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00:1b.0 Sound Server: ALSA v: k4.9.0-264-antix.1-amd64-smp Network: Device-1: Intel Wireless 3160 driver: iwlwifi v: kernel port: f040 bus ID: 06:00.0 IF: wlan0 state: up mac: <filter> Device-2: Realtek RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet vendor: Dell driver: r8169 v: 2.3LK-NAPI port: e000 bus ID: 07:00.0 IF: eth0 state: down mac: <filter> Drives: Local Storage: total: 931.51 GiB used: 12.68 GiB (1.4%) ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Seagate model: ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB size: 931.51 GiB Partition: ID-1: / size: 97.87 GiB used: 12.68 GiB (13.0%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda11 ID-2: swap-1 size: 7.91 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/sda2 Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 64.0 C mobo: N/A sodimm: 2.0 C Fan Speeds (RPM): cpu: 0 fan-2: 0 fan-3: 0 Info: Processes: 187 Uptime: 30m Memory: 7.77 GiB used: 914.3 MiB (11.5%) Init: SysVinit runlevel: 5 Compilers: gcc: 10.2.1 Shell: bash v: 5.1.4 inxi: 3.0.36The only reason for the amount of memory used is that I’m running the Firefox Browser. I’ll try out some live instances; I don’t anticipate finding any installed issues since a2 also worked very well installed for me.

Testing runinit on a UEFI machine. Set up Live with persist-all. Swapped kernel from GRUB. All works as expected.

I tried @Dave ‘s suggestion to clone one IDE hard drive with another IDE hard drive.
sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=512 status=progress
It works!!
Some observations:
My original IDE hard drive had an antiX 19 ext4 partition, a swap ext4 partition, a Windows 7 NTFS partition, and a Windows boot NTFS partition. All four partitions were successfully copied in the process. My grub installation had windows 7 boot as the default. The clone boots up in windows 7 just like the original. The clone even automatically connects to the network just like the original. It boots to the antix 19 just like the original. It was just the exact as the original.
The downside:
The process on my old system took a long time: 15374 seconds (4.27 hours) to copy a 40 GB IDE hard drive. Moreover, the CPU percentage was a constant 85% for the whole time. So, my computer was working hard and it took a long time, at least on my system, to clone the hard drive.

Hi,
my work-station suffers from random freezes, occasional restarts.
I know one can read off temperature from a file contain in (sub-folder of) ‘/sys/[devices/]’ but I did not found anything reasonable there (yet).inxi -Fxz System: Host: jezek Kernel: 5.10.27-antix.1-amd64-smp x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: N/A Desktop: Fluxbox 1.3.7 Distro: antiX-19.2_x64-full Hannie Schaft 27 March 2020 base: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Machine: Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: PRIME B350-PLUS v: Rev X.0x serial: <filter> UEFI: American Megatrends v: 5602 date: 07/14/2020 CPU: Topology: Quad Core model: AMD Ryzen 3 1300X bits: 64 type: MCP arch: Zen rev: 1 L2 cache: 2048 KiB flags: avx avx2 lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 sse4a ssse3 svm bogomips: 27947 Speed: 1510 MHz min/max: 1550/3500 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1341 2: 1444 3: 1461 4: 1494 Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA GK208 [GeForce GT 710B] vendor: Micro-Star MSI GK208B driver: nvidia v: 418.197.02 bus ID: 07:00.0 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: nvidia unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, nouveau, vesa resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GT 710/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 418.197.02 direct render: Yes Audio: Device-1: NVIDIA GK208 HDMI/DP Audio vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 07:00.1 Device-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 17h HD Audio vendor: ASUSTeK driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 09:00.3 Device-3: Logitech 960 Headset type: USB driver: hid-generic,snd-usb-audio,usbhid bus ID: 1-9:3 Sound Server: ALSA v: k5.10.27-antix.1-amd64-smp Network: Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet vendor: ASUSTeK driver: r8169 v: kernel port: f000 bus ID: 03:00.0 IF: eth0 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter> Drives: Local Storage: total: 2.04 TiB used: 932.51 GiB (44.7%) ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Kingston model: SHSS37A240G size: 223.57 GiB ID-2: /dev/sdb vendor: Seagate model: ST2000VN004-2E4164 size: 1.82 TiB Partition: ID-1: / size: 57.42 GiB used: 22.18 GiB (38.6%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda5 ID-2: /home size: 19.22 GiB used: 10.73 GiB (55.8%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda7 ID-3: swap-1 size: 8.43 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/sda6 Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 50.2 C mobo: N/A Fan Speeds (RPM): N/A Info: Processes: 226 Uptime: 50m Memory: 7.77 GiB used: 2.19 GiB (28.2%) Init: SysVinit runlevel: 5 Compilers: gcc: 8.3.0 Shell: bash v: 5.0.3 inxi: 3.0.36Hi, just installed antix 19.4 and very happy with it, only issue is that in xrandr the only resolution that appear is 1920×1080, this is what xrandr output:
