I do not login as root. I login as a user and get into that pretty low resolution desktop with no menu on the bottom left and the system monitor on the top left covering the home folder icon. terrible. how do I get out of it?
      Please.
installed antix full on a partition alongside ubuntu and using a separate /home and a separate /swap. never saw any questions about desktop during the install. only strange thing was asking me for domain and I left the default example.com
There are no questions/options during the boot. the boot takes much longer than the boot from the demo usb.

I installed antiX 19.3 32 bit in Inspiron 11-3162 2.4.0 and updated Kernel: 5.8.7-antix.1-686-smp-pae. Backlight-brightness facility works BUT when I change the resolution by arrow keys nothing happened. Brightness remains still. I try “$ xbacklight -set 50” and it says “No outputs have backlight property,” and when I try to restart or shutdown it just log off, but when I do it from “$ antiX-cli-cc” it worked.

What should I do? please help.

        Many thank

I had my wi-fi hard and soft blocked, i figured that pressing on the wifi button on my netbook, unblocked the hard lock but still remained soft blocked.
I simply run the second command Xecure provided on the terminal (antix-wifi-switch –gui connman), asked for my password after run it and wifi was working.

              Here is the log:

@Xecure, that is interesting. I had not considered using Core on the CD and Base on the USB. I knew about the from=usb boot code but I assumed I had to have the same iso in both the CD and the USB. Since I knew that the 19.3 Base iso would not fit the CD I was suggesting using Plop instead.

I have also been successful using two other techniques when I can’t boot from USB – swap out the CD-ROM player for a DVD-ROM player, or pull the hard drive and attach to another box that does have USB boot then put the HD back in the non-USB-booting machine.

I haven’t tried booting the iso from the hard disk. I have read that it is possible to boot from an iso directly from the hard disk without using either the CD or USB. But I don’t know if that can be done with antiX. Maybe someone else knows if this can be done?

Problem summary: “invalid-key” error after writing the password (14 characters, only letters and numbers) while trying to connect to a Wireless Access Point with connman.

So, the user follows all the steps correctly (enable wifi, select the Wireless Access Point in the corresponding Wireless point in the Wireless tab in cmst, click connect, fill out the Passphrase box with the password (correct capitalization when needed), click OK but cannot connect because of this “invalid-key” error.

The Wireless device is one I haven’t seen yet:

                    Device-1: Intersil ISL3874 [Prism 2.5]/ISL3872 [Prism 3] vendor: Actiontec
                    driver: hostap_pci v: kernel port: 3000 bus ID: 02:02.0
IF: wifi0 state: down mac: <filter>

It comes up as wifi0 instead of wlan0, so this could be the cause of the problem?

I would recommend trying to use ceni, just in case this device has trouble working with connman. Run in terminal:
                    antix-wifi-switch --gui ceni
will disable connman and immediately start ceni. It has a terminal interface, but you can click with the mouse to select options.
See if you can connect with ceni with the password for your wifi.

Does anyone else have any advice?

                    antiX Live system enthusiast.

Oh and a few more bonus questions:

                      3. Sound doesn’t work. Sound works in MX and Xubuntu and a few others. BUT – the Mouse is x-y inverted in all of those other distros. Oh but – you have to plug the headphones in to make the speakers go on – so that input pin is inverted somewhere along the way. So – how do I copy the audio intel from MX? or?

                      4. I am pretty new to Rox, Flux or IceWM desktops. Can I just put xfce on here or will that mess everything up. Or How do I make a simple launch link for Firefox on the desktop? I am used to drag and drop? I am on IceWM but tried a bunch of ’em. I am not moaning and groaning – just still learning…

                      5. Is the persistence file on the internal hard drive? What about the 2GB SWAP file I setup during config. I have a 128GB thumb drive and I’d love for it all to be on there.

                      Okay that is it.
                      Thanks gang for the help!

                        Hi gang.

Skidoo – Thanks for the trick on CORRECTLY burning an AntiX boot stick. Never heard of that one before.

Anyway – that all works. File system seems to be read/write. Persistence seems to be saving things I want.

                        1. Getting the correct screen rotation at boot:
                        Xecure – regarding:

…add the path to that script inside $HOME/.desktop-session/startup file, where other autostart scripts go.

I just need to add a file called startup or can I edit desktop-session.conf file?

With Grub – the following is being passed:
                        set gfxpayload="1440x960;1440x900;1368x912;1366x768;1360x768;1280x800;1280x720;1024x768;auto"

Is there something I can do there? I mean the resolution it ends up with is 800×1280 (since it is rotated out 90 degrees)?

                        2. [SOLVED] Any ideas how to get the screen to not be skewed? The image seems to be the correct size – just 1/4″ on the entire left side is not off the visible screen and 1/4″ on the right side is a solid black bar.
                        — Following instructions layed out here for transform: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xrandr

I entered this into the terminal
                        $ xrandr --output DSI-1 --transform 1,0,-30,0,1,0,0,0,1
With a little trial and error -30 pixels works great.
Oh and if you make a typo and can’t see your screen (like I did) you can blindly type into your open terminal (whether you can see it or not) the command below to revert back to the screen you had a boot up.
                        $ xrandr -o normal

                        Making progress. Thanks gang.

                        Anonymous

your latest arrived while i was editing my earlier post

Beyond tackling the specific problem mentioned by the OP, I did “look around”
                          (recursively grepped /etc, /usr/local, /bin, /usr/bin )
                          lang=
                          lang_
                          locale_file
and found nothing other than the live README file quoted above.

Because SLiM provides no locale chooser (and, even if it did, or swap in LightDM instead)
                          and
considering that LANG= is not exported by an antiX user’s ~/.profile and/or ~/.bashrc
…I wonder where could a “chooser” be presented, and wouldn’t the user need to logout for the change to take effect?

Yeah, it’s a hairball. The overall (debian-based) system supports NN locales, and LightDM chooser presents ALL the configured locales… or would the antiX maintainers curate the LightDM config, cut it down to only those locales for which locale-specific ROX pinboards are onhand?

                            Welcome to antiX!

I often use CD or DVD discs since I have a lot of ancient machines around here. Sometimes I swap in a DVD drive instead of the old CD drive since many iso files now exceed the CD limit.

If the CD/DVD won’t boot I have taken the hard drive out and installed to a machine that does have a bootable CD/DVD or USB and then install, then put the hard disk back in the other machine.

                              Antix funktioniert so weit.

fungalnet, I am not using swap. I am using grub4dos to boot the iso file of antiX-19.3 from a flash drive.
                                Here is my boot lines:

                                kernel /antiX/vmlinuz fromiso=/_ISO/LINUX/MNU/antiX19.3/32bits/antiX-19.3_386-full.iso desktop=space-icewm desktheme=dark hwclock=local tz=America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires kbd=br quiet splasht disable=lxF
                                initrd /antiX/initrd.gz

I am not that much of an expert as I never use this, but if both are handled by the same grub configuration can you check to see if both or either have a resume=uuid…. configuration on the linux line? Are you using swap? Swap partition or file?

It may be that information to continue the previous operation is stored there.

I don’t think kernel policy would change from one version on 4.9 to another. If one was 4.9 and the other 5.4 I can see it being an issue.
